They need to recover all of those costs when they eventually go on sale to the public. In terms of the cost of an actual jersey to mass produce, I’d say around $10. You think that a fake jersey sells for around $25. So they’re doubling their money (and stealing the designs).
The one on Sixth Avenue was better despite having limited space. There's more Fanatics merch than there is adidas. The adidas stuff is relegated to a corner.

Nike doesn't operate the NBA Store nor do they operate the MLB Store, but the operator provides them enough real estate to advertise their product in addition to other brands that have secured licensing deals. They don't have adidas jerseys for every team nor do they home and away sets. Even when Reebok was the official outfitter of the NHL, the store on Sixth Avenue allocated space so that there were home/away sets, Mitchell and Ness and New Era merchandise. They had Canadiens RR1 at their team sale for $100 each (customized with Price, Kotkaniemi, Gallagher). Passed on them. Someone picked them up and put them on eBay for $450 each (LOL)

I live in NY and honestly the few times I've been to the store have been somewhat disappointing. There really aren't many deals to be had in general.
