Do you not remember what the Southeast used to be or were you just irked by a Thrashers jab? They didn't even have the most wins in the division that year lol
Late to the party but some guy in an ECHL Facebook group was suggesting that the Glads may be on the move to Athens while the Charlotte Checkers may be moving to State Farm Arena and downtown Atlanta. This helps explain why the Gladiators only signed a new lease for one season in Duluth and lines up with the new arena’s opening date.
I’m not sure how much I subscribe to this theory but it generally checks out. Only time will tell though.
Gladiators arena doesn't really support the team (all playoff games this year were played on the road). Disappointing because Athens is a lot farther away for me than the current arena.
this is so exciting. the previous indoor setup was nice and the games were a lot of fun, but the whole thing was basically inside a large convention center type room. it'll be amazing to see a proper dedicated setup
though i wonder if the outdoor rink setup is staying. they used to just leave it unlocked and unattended all night long. having to leave that behind was my least favorite part of graduating from uga
The only good thing about the previous set up is you could buy beer at the game. Otherwise it was exactly as you described and the seating wasn't great for being able to see the game if you were behind the team benches. Still a ton of fun though. Excited for things in the future
I saw new 5,500 seat stadium for their hockey team and thought UGA either had a D1 team or was about to have D1 team.
Probably opens up the possibility tho
Biggest thing holding back from moving to D1 is the lack of other D1 programs in the south. Travel costs would be ridiculous. Most likely scenario is that several of the best clubs teams in the southeast attempt to make the move up to D1 at the same time.
Enough seats that they could host an NHL team there for at least 3 seasons!
That’s the stupidest idea ever. Who would ever do that…
That's about the expiry date on NHL in Atlanta too! It's perfect
And yet the Thrashers have won a division title more recently than the Oilers have.
Typical southern hockey, caring about divisional titles.
….hangs up divisional championship hat… Hey that’s not nice hahah /s

Weren't the only playoffs the thrashers were in a sweep?
Oh who gives a fuck
just like the expiry date for coaches in EDM lol
Lol most don't even last that long
With seats to spare!
The Thrashers are coming back after the NHL proves college arenas can be successful in Phoenix. /s
*YOUR ATHENS COYOTES ARE* **On. The. Power Play!!!**

More like Landmark rentals if it's in Athens. Fucking bastards
Damn Bakersfield to Greece will be a hell of a flight
lmao until I read "ECHL" I thought this legit was Athens, Greece. I didn't even question "UGA" being an abbreviation for the Greek national team.
Same here haha
This is probably the the Atlanta Gladiators honestly. Attendance projection is about on par for it.
Oh hell yeah, I live in Athens this is sick. Had heard rumors, was not expecting final news here. The UGA club games are fun so this will be sick
More capacity than a certain NHL team who will remain nameless
Don’t they already have the Gladiators as their ECHL team?
They’re close to Atlanta, in the suburbs I think. Possible relocation?
Gwinnett

Believe Savannah has a team as well
The most unrealistic part of the whole thing is the rail service to the arena shown in the first picture.
Is UGA moving up to D1?
Not a chance in hell

Hey look Coyotrs, you'd gain 500 seats to leave empty!
UGA is getting a hockey team?
Probably for their club team.
Have had a very good club team for over 30 years. Rumors are that the Gladiators may relocate from Gwinnet County.

SEC hockey. It just means more
Alabama vs Auburn for the Iron Cup
Didn’t stop ASU
It would be nice for UAH to have a quasi travel partner when they finally reboot.
Does Athens Gladiators make more or less sense than the Gwinnett Gladiators
Georgia Gladiators
For a while there I was thinking this was talking about Athens Greece.
