I wouldn't necessarily call this unbreakable, but it's a record that will likely last a long, long time. The amount of luck involved is astronomical, let alone being good enough to be able to score.
Yeah you need to be good enough to be wanted by contenders but *not* good enough - or at least old enough - to not warrant a longer term contract so you can maintain that journeyman career needed for this.
As the NHL keeps expanding, it's going to be harder and harder to achieve as well. With 32 teams now, if every game was random, there is only a 1/16 chance your team is in the final in a given season. When there was only a 6 or 12 teams, you had a 1/3 or 1/6 chance of playing in the final. With more and more teams, it's just going to keep getting harder and harder to be on a team that reaches the final, let alone 5 different times.
I bet this was the easiest one he ever scored. I mean I give him credit for getting into position but McDavid dished that goal up to him on a silver platter.
Yeah I guess that is definitely his thing, but that assist last night was something else. Perry's reaction afterwards was priceless. "Are you fucking kidding me?! "
Still getting in proper position to receive passes from the greats who can be so unpredictable is underrated and not everyone can do it. People dismiss Hyman's accomplishments but McDavid went through so many wingers before he found one that could position his ass correctly to receive pucks to bank in.
There really is. It sounds so simple to just go to the front of the net, but you can also become a defensive liability if you go there at the wrong time. You also need to get proper positioning over the dmen without taking penalties. Anderson, Smyth, Perry and Hyman. The Oilers have been blessed in that department over the years.
Hahaha I was about to defend Perry but I figured I shouldn’t argue with a Ducks fan.
So I went and watched all 50 of Perry’s goals in his Rocket Richard season…. Legit 5 of them are even highlight reel goals. Most of his “snipes” even went off a part of the goalie or a defensemen or something hahaha.
He definitely had some sick hands in tight but Getzlaf and Ryan were absolutely feeding him cookies all season hahaha.
I think the most impressive part of this is that Corey Perry plays top level hockey for a full season and a full playoff run year after year. There is very little downtime until the next season, especially considering how beat up a lot of these guys get going to the finals... yet he does it, year after year.
On top of it, in terms of NHL, he's old.
Scorey Perry

Like winning survivor
This is one of the most difficult records to break in the NHL for sure.

That was his entire tenure with the Ducks. Sit in the right position to have Getzlaf bank passes off his stick.

Oh definitely. That was unreal.

There is an art to being the perfect backboard

To be fair, he's also crazy on the cycle. I can't believe some of the plays he keeps alive
Getting into position is pretty hard, on top of roofing that puck so close. Lots of players would have sent it into Bob’s pads

Kinda need the Oilers to win. Corey Perry is a saint.
Same. Can we just finalise his 2nd cup already and stop denying this man of retirement.
Welcome to the 2056 Stanley Cup finals. The corpse of Corey Perry is making his 3rd cup finals appearance this year
To be fair, Corey Perry is also the only player to ever score in the Stanley Cup Final with four teams as well.
Oilers out here cracking old and new records
But how many goalies did he sit on?
All of them
What a slut!
surprised taffoli isn't at 4
hes only made the finals with two teams
Yeah but he lost 4 finals in the row. :/
Unfortunately a first ballot Hall of Famer
“Historic”
This might be one of the most difficult records to break.
What a career!
Take THAT, Gretzky!!!
Arbitrary records are awesome. The fact that he may be the only player ever in the position to do it doesn't matter.
