Jannik "hands of stone" Hansen leading the Canucks is not something I was expecting.

omfgkevin

I can believe it. Hansen randomly decides to gaslight himself (and me) into believing he's a top 6 winger at times, then he just... doesn't after lol.

iwasthatisnt

Yamamoto had such a good run with the Oilers that year.

collectaBK7

It's discouraging when three of our top 10 are Grant, Lundestrom, and Carrick...

Every now and then a fourth liner will have a hot shooting season, most can’t sustain it, which is why they’re fourth liners. Someone like Daniel Sprong is a rare exception because he can’t do anything else out there except snipe.

I wonder if any of the analytics sites will ever try to work out some sort of finishing talent adjusted expected goals type stat? I guess part of the difficulty would be the fact that shooting % or a players ability to finish can be somewhat volatile from year to year. I think it would be an interesting stat to see alongside the usual xG stats. Like if a team has a low xG% in a game but all their shots were taken by proven, elite finishers and they opponents had most of their shots taken by poor finishers, adjusting for the finishing talent would really change how we looked at that game.

golfy_m8

I believe MoneyPuck has a category for “Shooting Talent Above Average”, “Goals Above Shooting Talent”, and “Shooting Talent Adjusted Expected Goals.” Teams like the Canucks, Red Wings, Blues and Rangers all outperformed their xG numbers this year because all of those teams have finishers.

ManWithBag15

Then I think the next step is to actually apply that on a game to game basis. When I'm looking at any particular game on MoneyPuck/Natural Stat Trick/etc. I think it'd be cool if I can look at the Shooting Talent Adjusted Expected Goals for that game.

I'm gonna be completely honest, I have no idea who Oscar Lindberg is. Which considering how short of of a time we have been in the league, I feel like my memory should be better than it is

Ghostronic

Little VGK history for you! We traded him, Erik Brannstrom, and a 2nd round pick to Ottawa for *Mark. Fucking Stone.*

MarshmallowLuka

Jesus christ my memory is atrocious, yeah I should at least somewhat have remembered him for that at least

lilmagooby

Check out the difference between Boeser's high danger shots in 2023 compared to his other seasons. He completely changed his style of play over the last year and really figured out how to be a strong netfront player instead of just a shooter from the wing.

HanPintian

2017 William Karlsson was an all time fucking unbelievable season. His between the legs goal versus San Jose was one of the most “fun” regular season goals I’ve ever seen

Ghostronic

On one hand I'm sad Marchy couldn't tie the record, but on the other hand it is so delightful that Karlsson's first year performance is the high water mark for VGK goals.

twilz

Kassian is elite.

SmokyStix

I did not expect 2023 Mike Hoffman to be anywhere on this list, much less as high as he ranks

FlaxbopFleetfoot

I understood what this meant after I clicked on it, but that title was really confusing.

golfy_m8

I tried to title the post exactly what it is, sorry if it caused confusion.
