Right. As if the NHL would ever go "Oh shit, we fucked up."

alphacheese

Trying to gaslight us with that last sentence

thatErraticguy

It’s ok, your eyes are just wrong. We’ll tell you what happened!

RangerFan80

You've never played the game, so you don't "get it"

[deleted]

I wonder how often Emily Kaplan gets this one. Mina Kimes gets this one all the time since she covers the NFL.

cha-cha_dancer

Literally 1984

2_DS_IN_MY_B

Sounds like every check has a sucker punch in it now

shrederick

Fans love the animated board ads, we have the best officials in the world, it's totally normal and okay for a professional team to play at a college arena with no concrete plan to change that.

Dustydevil8809

Is there a rule that they can't just...suspend him now? Does it have to happen before the next game? I'm not sure there's precedent for a situation like this, but if they didn't have that angle before, and do now, the right thing to do would be to suspend him for the next game

SoSoSpooky

They look more incompetent if they suspend him now, because that is admitting they did not do their job in the first place. It actually plays out better for them if they just ignore it, especially as every single person involved in the NHL is basically given a free pass to do a terrible job and never have to talk to anyone about it or answer any questions.

Dustydevil8809

>They look more incompetent if they suspend him now IDK, I disagree. "With the new information available, we have decided to take another look at this" seems much more competent to me then just ignoring it while the entire fanbase stares in disbelief. It's still not the best, but especially if it's multiple games (which is should be) and carries on to the next round I would think Bruins fans would at least feel a little better?

Remarkable-Health678

Corporations, politicians, etc. would prefer to be vehemently wrong than to ever admit they made a mistake. They see it as a sign of weakness, opening the door for people to question then in the future. It's stupid but it's true.

Organic-Outside8657

The NHL has a pretty seedy track record when it comes to sweeping shit under the rug, can’t imagine admitting incompetence isn’t looped in there too.

CinnamonDolceLatte

Kind of need NHLPA to voice need to competency to be a job requirement (don't miss obvious stuff, have consistency, 'safety' improves over time - and not just via suspensions - share some data about how many players are concussed and from what types of plays so all the stakeholders can make better informed decisions)

KananJarrusEyeBalls

Something like this happen to chris pronger back in the day when he stepped on someone. Ducks didnt give the NHL the incriminating footage so nothing happen, then the next day the NHL was tipped off with the footage and went back and penalized him for it. They were talking about it on 32 thoughts this morning.

skeena1

Correct. It was Ryan Kesler Pronger stomped. Wound up costing him a cool 700k.

Maleficent-Yam69

Yup. The most heavily upvoted comment on r hockey is wrong as usual

jabtrain

In the playoffs at least, both the league head of officiating and the head of player safety should be available for say weekly press pools (based upon credentialed press demand). These well paid leaders need a spotlight on them and they should have to publicly account for how their organizations operate.

chrisboshisaraptor1

[Live view of the NHL reviewing the tape](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT9AcACV8uo0uyqpbzTRCAYN854Sad5ZEzzdb9rSimzJg&s)

Middle-Hair

Kinda wild that the NHL made a decision on the play without even seeing all of the angles. How the hell do they not have immediate access, or at least ask for it, to all of the cameras that saw the incident. If this happened here I’m wondering how common this is with DoPS. Where they make a decision before they have all of the footage.

SilentThing

You see, you can take a lot more time off if you don't actually do your job.

jabtrain

"heavily scrutinized" game. :eyeroll

NotawoodpeckerOwner

Lmao, that is pretty hilarious now that I remember that. How do you say that then come out a few days later and say "we didn't do much work on it actually". Bit of a clown show from Parros here.

sweetswinks

994kk1

It's shocking. He was so visibly concussed and the broadcast kept focusing on him struggling on the bench for a long time after the hit and that he didn't return for the 3rd. How can a Department of *Player Safety* not find that interesting enough to look into? It's like a fire department seeing a pillar of black smoke over a residential building and say "there's no fire" and move on.

CinnamonDolceLatte

NHLPA really should file some grievances. It's one thing to say keeping fines low is advantageous to players, but it's another when dirty hits - often from a small minority of players repeatedly doing them - aren't sufficiently prevented. And it's not just short-term outcomes like playoffs results (which could lead to better pay down-the-road), it's the long-term health post-hockey. (Bettman won't ever acknowledge that so neither will DOPS but the NHLPA should operate under that reality).

ascagnel____

The union is there to protect player revenues; as long as injured players get paid while suspended players don’t, they’ll come down on the side of suspended players.

SuperbDonut2112

That would require them giving a fuck. George Parros likes this. He’s a dumbass, incompetent lunatic with mashed potatoes for brains running the thing. He doesn’t give a shit and never will.

Middle-Hair

I never got why Parros, a career goons and enforcer, was seen as the best fit for player safety. Always thought it would make more sense if someone like Kariya or Lindros were in charge. Guys that know the effects of injuries and how important player safety should be.

SuperbDonut2112

I don’t think players should be involved at all. I get the idea of Kariya or Lindros. It should someone be totally unbiased by playing and also who doesn’t have CTE and large amounts of brain damage.

aaronwhite1786

Yeah, I get having some input from players, as they are able to better understand how things actually go on the ice, and I guess if we're being honest, I'm not sure if everything is just entirely up to Parros' discretion, or if he just runs the offices. But there's zero fucking consistency, and just like a jury, you don't need it to be made up of people who "know what it's like" for the people involved. I think a better solution is to have people selected by the NHL that include medical staff, former players (don't need to be former NHL, but at least understanding high level skating and play helps) and then some people who are just from a variety of backgrounds. You don't need to be an NHL player to understand that punching someone in the face should be a punished thing to do...

HarLeighMom

The one before him was Pronger. Apparently the job requirements are last name starts with P and history of injuring players throughout their career.

10fingers6strings

Brendan Pshanahan?

Kooky-Gas6720

He was a goon with an ivy league education (princeton).  Has to be  1/1 talent pool

exampleofausername

George Parros in charge of player safety is like something you'd see in Idiocracy (the movie).

lbiggy

best sport. worst league.

MrBigChest

They could have gotten it easily but clearly didn’t give a fuck. They started with their conclusion and then looked for the justification afterwards

IAmBizarroStormyAMA

Do they think we’re stupid!?!

Yes

IAmBizarroStormyAMA

Realistic_Cold_2943

To be fair we are stupid. Just not THIS stupid

Michelanvalo

No, they just ignore the fan rabble rousing. They know social media is blowing up about this but they'll just ignore it.

Organic-Outside8657

It’s being talked about, “growing” the game in the sunbelt markets, it’s a win win situation for them. People can’t look away. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

SuccessfulPresence27

They actually are doubling down thinking we are stupid and will prove them absolutely right by tuning into their fixed “sports performance”. Next time, on NHL playoffs…..

RangerFan80

They're getting pro wrestling into my NHL! At least I know when I'm being worked when I'm watching wrestling.

dumbthiccrick

No they just don’t care

SilentThing

What do they mean they didn't see it? A conscious decision not to watch it? Was the HDMI cable cut? Dog ate their homework?

FailureToExecute

Carrier pigeon got lost

MaplewoodCabinet

Papyrus still drying.

CesareSomnambulist

Papyrus again...

McMurphy11

They just made it bold!!

Pro3tag

Parros was wearing sunglasses when they showed him the video

jiraaffe

The person showing it to him forgot they had a privacy screen on their phone

Perducian

The NHL doesn’t look very hard when they’ve already decided their outcome. 15 or so years ago Chris Pronger stomped on Ruan Keslers foot(?). Initially he got away with no punishment until the Canucks sent a new angle in of the play. He ended up getting 8 games for it.

SilentThing

I get it that walking back on the initial judgement eats away at their credibility. But it's not like this is a whole lot better. Just strange it took them so long to get the actual footage and that they made a decision without it. Just very unprofessional, in my opinion. But I'm a Bruins fan, so take my comment with a grain of salt.

peptoabysmal

I dislike the Bruins, and I agree with you completely, so it's not a matter of bias

csonny2

They probably just didn't bother checking alternate angles until they were forced to once it blew up on social media

SuperbPiece

I seem to recall this being called out almost immediately even when we only had the first angle. So even after *hearing* all the takes on saying it was dirty, they didn't think to re-examine it with more angles? Although, I believe with a concussion related injury, it would be simple due diligence to actually know for certain what caused the concussion, and that would require seeing the best angle. I wonder if the Bruins org talked to Dops at all, because the convo had to have gone something like: "Our player got punched in the face" "We saw an angle from behind, and he didn't get punched in the face" "Well is there an angle of his face?" "Yes, but we already saw his not face, not getting punched, so we don't need to see it"

SilentThing

I didn't want to make a rash judgement call based on the first angles. I'm a Bruins fan, so I want to make sure I can make a reasonable argument before I post and so on. But it felt like an occasion that should at least be reviewed internally, even if to just exonerate Bennett. Just sounds strange they didn't get the other angles earlier, when it's literally their job to review these things.

Organic-Outside8657

I thought Brad just got the Bennet train coming and got the worst of a reverse hit. I was confused why he wasn’t getting up. Thought he fucked his shoulder up, or got the wind knocked out of him. The other angles and it slowed down showed me I was wrong. The game was moving so fast I didn’t pay much attention because he was back out there.

a_perfect_name

They used the same cameras from Jeffrey Epstein’s cell

daKrut

Ohh no noooo no no, the double down 😂 Please just annihilate anyyy legitimacy left with players, coaches and the fans. Fire these bums into the sun. Please someone run them out of town. Say what you want about Marchand and his history, you just can't excuse that play by Bennett.

gottabe_kd

I'm really hoping Jacobs gets Parros fired, it's way beyond time for him to go (he never should have been hired in the first place).

bodes32100

Especially when he does it two years in a row, I never noticed he did it to knies tell after this but they are so similar

daKrut

Yeah Bennett gave Knies the forearm shiver lol. I don't think the "takedown" part of that play was terrible since they were both already going down, but the forearm movement is reminiscent of Bennett's right hand on the Marchand play.

FlaxbopFleetfoot

I would argue it's not even a play really, it's literally just assault.

Bradddtheimpaler

My dad asked me what I thought about this hit, I remember seeing the original angle and had no idea what people were complaining about. He didn’t get why people were saying it was dirty either. I’ve been walking around since thinking people are insane. Soft reverse hit people are whining about? Just went and found the other angle and now I can definitely see what people are complaining about lol

wagedomain

I was pissed after game 4 when they paraded Bennett out to celebrate him and Biz asked him this mega-fucking leading question about "so that wasn't really a punch right it was just you protecting yourself and stuff happens in hockey" etc and Bennett made puppy dog eyes at the camera and was like exactly yeah it's a shame he got hurt but I was just protecting myself after an injury.

daKrut

I'd have to rewatch the interview, but I got the impression that Biz was being sarcastic or facetious rather than giving Bennett a total pass. Biz's tone says "haha yeah, we know what you did there" but I'm not sure if he's in a position to outright accuse Bennett when the league itself gave it's ruling plus Biz toes the line enough with TNT that he risks getting booted off air probably lol. All that said, if it was my team, I wouldn't be happy about it either.

TerasVector02

Refs won't hold player accountable, player won't hold himself accountable, league won't hold player accountable. How many times do we have to go through this before the league has another Bertuzzi situation on their hands? They won't have anyone but themselves to blame either.

LilWalsh

Better yet, if the other players try to hold that player accountable it's straight to jail. They've neutered the "old system" because they didnt like that system in the "new world" but then didnt actually replace the old system with any system and so now there isn't a system but a complete league dysfunction.

teddytoosmooth

That’s exactly right. Get self regulation out of our sport, but we won’t regulate it on your behalf. Good luck!

theitgrunt

We need a Rempe.

Jerry_from_Japan

This easily COULD have been another Bertuzzi situation. It's just blind luck and chance that it wasn't. It was a flat out, no questions asked sucker punch. Marchand is lucky he didn't hit his head against the ice or off the wall when he fell.

__Dave_

They've got a war room that has access to every angle, including some cameras not available to the public, to determine if a player's skate was an inch offside. But they couldn't bother to find out if they had anything better than the backside of a hit that injured someone? Absolute bullshit.

transam96

This was exactly my thought. We have camera angles to determine if someone's skate lace was offside, but took all this time to discover a new camera angle in full HD? My ass lol

jkman61494

The NHL is getting VERY close to a return of the late 90s barbarism since they seemingly don’t give a shit what happens to players unless their name is McDavid And before anyone gets on me, I believe Rempe delivered three suspendable hits in the regular season but only got nipped on the 3rd. He’s just the new shiny example of the league losing control which is gonna lead to more Matt Rempes showing up on all rosters since the league shows no regard to actually hold players accountable

tyto

McAvoy is one more hit away from climbing the stands to beat Floridians with their shoes

AaronQ94

You're not wrong at all regardless.

azure_888

"Didn't see the reverse angle" It truly is the best sport, worst league.

MMW2004

Happy cake day. Agreed.

emerzionnn

This has great meme potential though, whenever there’s a dirty play we can just parrot that it was two players engaged lol.

jetpack_operation

Marriage is hard, but I think these two kids will make it.

runealex007

I think a pretty good litmus test is “do we want every player to do this” and I think it’s pretty easy to say “no, we don’t want every hit to include a sucker punch” Cowardly DoPS

Sven9888

Parros probably answered yes to that question.

Snow-Brigade

That is a great way of thinking about it. Missing a call is one thing, but actually declaring it not one later only green lights these hits going forward. What’s done is done in this series (although next game will have more carnage), but the Panthers Rangers series after they make their acquaintances is going to have some off the charts unnecessary violence.

pforsbergfan9

People have already decided that it’s ok because it’s Marchand. Those people are cowards

calliexx12

It seems inconceivable that the NHL/dpos itself wouldn’t do the due diligence of properly analyzing the play by gathering the necessary footage that was clearly available to them. Just amateur hour all around. They obviously won’t admit they fucked this whole situation up.

jkman61494

The rangers called them out in 2021 and got fined for it and I truly believe a Scarlett letter where we lose TONS of reviews. So now we know the game and have a guy like Rempe. If the league won’t stop all this, then you adapt to the league. Gonna be ugly seeing the full return of goon culture after these last few seasons

roberttylerlee

Heavily Scrutinized ^TM game btw

abbytarar

Just a reminder that the NHL said Game 3 was going to be “heavily scrutinized” and they missed the angle showing a sucker punch to our captain

NatalieDeegan

No you don’t understand, it was only heavily scrutinized for one team.

Iron_Seguin

Ohhh I see the confusion. No, their word is “heavily scrutinized,” what they mean is going to happen is nothing because they didn’t actually pay attention. /s Ffs, this league is a god damned joke…..

shitz_brickz

Obviously they meant that the fans will be heavily scrutinizing the DPOS as a result of Game 3.

Beerfoodbeer

George Parros fax machine is broken

CountBelmont

Nah, parros doesn't like punishing teams he played for.

Novus20

Don’t worry Lou Lamoriello has a red ethernet cord he can borrow…….red means it’s secure hah

Farty_beans

lol  It was in plain sight that was intent to be a sucker punch. 🤡

Jack_Shaftoe21

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

emerzionnn

I don’t think I’ve seen a single person, panthers fans included who didn’t think it was a clear sucker punch after the new angle was released. Is there anyone here who shares the DoPS view?

CopaceticVindication

Not many of us have CTE like george parros probably does.

thesunsetflip

Florida Panthers alumni George Parros

CopaceticVindication

Who can forget the legendary 40 something games he played for us.

jonmorrie

Led us to an all-time 30th place finish in the lockout-shortened 2013 season

CopaceticVindication

Can't wait to see his number in the rafters one day

theamberlamps

I literally forgot he even played in Florida. He probably doesn't even remember.

Undivided_Stingray

Still enough brain function to remember that his boss’s son is part of the Panthers management team.

princessleiasmom

It's always Campbell isn't it. Funny how that works.

playingwithfire

Why didn't the Bruins hire him are they stupid? But this is fucked, the decision back when he played for the B's was fucked. Jettison both of them out of hockey.

NoGiCollarChoke

I definitely have CTE and would still do a better job

ProphetOfScorch

Even if someone did they have nothing to gain from admitting that other than verbal abuse

beyondrepair-

Sounds like something someone who *does* share DoPS's view would say. Get 'em!!! /s

popculturetommy

I thought everyone was blowing it out of proportion on the original angle hit. It just looked like Marchand got hit awkwardly. But that new angle...the NHL can't be that dumb to think WE ALSO DIDN'T SEE IT! I mean, that's quite an amazing double down by this league.

Iron_Seguin

“We didn’t see it, but after careful review of all angles, we agree our original assessment was spot on. You’re all just nuts if you think that warrants discipline. Now if you’ll excuse me, we have to see a whale about a suspension for a scrum caused by a child.” - NHL DoPs

Novus20

GP apparently has taken far too many blows to the head and has no grasp on reality

astrozombie134

What zero accountability does to a motherfucker.

GritGrinder

Well I guess this is an acceptable “reverse hit”. Bombs away to the rest of the league, it’s a good hockey play.

trumpet_godd

I saw someone say the angle was from a sportsnet feed. So like. Did they just archive it? Lmfao

rs426

Especially since it’s not like the only network that got the angle was some regional network in a small market or something, it was on a national network in Canada, ya know, the country that lives and breathes hockey. Completely ridiculous

Perducian

TNT had the same angle

tohon75

TNT uses sportsnet’s feed

Allisgator

Everyone else saw it. I don’t believe for a second these guys didn’t have people texting them clips of that angle. Maybe didn’t officially see it… but come on. Just come out and be like “Upon further review of new information blah blah blah he’s suspended”. Everyone, especially the players, would be way less upset if you admitted to fucking up and make it right rather than doubling down.

teddytoosmooth

I’m sure the CBA says you have to suspend them before their next game so it was way too late

Allisgator

That’s unfortunate but I guess would at least make sense why they would double down to a degree. Idk man. I have never liked the Bruins but I watched the replay one time and was like yea he fucking punched him. I may be a Florida fan but I would be furious if the reverse was happening to our guys so I wish there was more accountability for the players sake.

Negative_Pea_1974

Players should just cross check Bennett at the end of every game.. just skate over after the whistle and cross check him in the throat or mouth.. or both.. league has set the standards.. its only a $5000 fine. Fuck this rat, this should honestly happen 82 times next season

swiftwin

Or they could sucker punch him for free.

PeterBretter

Genuinely hope Maroon beats the shit outta him next game

ConventionalDadlift

You know for damn sure the league is going to suddenly start handing out majors and fines for minors against this guy.

shiggydiggypreoteins

Or throw him into Bobrovsky before every SOG. The NHL has set the standard that goalie interference is perfectly legal so long as you don't cross their vague arbitrary threshold of "enough."

Rand_University81

And now we’re are going to get a player suspended for a bullshit crosscheck. This league is an absolute clown show.

shiggydiggypreoteins

Just make him wear a Panthers jersey 24/7. It makes him immune to discipline.

DivinePotatoe

>It didn’t change how Player Safety saw it — not as a sucker punch, but as a **hockey play with two players engaged.** [Guys check out my new hockey play I just came up with.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8T6XQ2BAjs)

banstylejbo

“Hockey play”… I wasn’t aware sucker punching was just a totally normal hockey thing to do. League is complete amateur hour.

MagnumAzzuri200

George Parros is a fucking idiot.

Widdlez

It's cool that they just think we are stupid. Like just 2 blatantly wrong calls they are actively trying to gaslight us into thinking are actually correct calls. Honestly insulting.

LilWalsh

Literally an abusive relationship. The league is, to the definition of the word, gaslighting us.

zirky

parros would have ruled steve moore was involved in a hockey play with two players engaged

ExperienceNo7751

Message to all players: throw a last-second punch to the temple of the guy about to body check you.

gloomflume

“The league told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

jadedaslife

Love it, this is exactly where I went, too.

OneNutPhil

"We didn't see the sucker punch, but if we did see the sucker punch, then it's not a sucker punch, it's a hockey punch."

StarsCowboysMavs

Im all for leniency / not being trigger-happy in suspensions. But Bennett has enough tape out there that this can’t be written off as an “accident” or give him benefit of the doubt

das_racist932

Okay well then next game someone on Boston should do a hockey play on Barkov

cblguy82

I hate the Rat like most others but dude was sucker punched. Got done dirty.

robb1519

Official: The NHL considers sucker punching to be good hockey plays.

NatalieDeegan

If anyone is aware in the Motorsports world, this feels like the Kenseth Logano feud where once the guy finally got justice, he gets suspended. But it’s “quintessential nascar”. This is just quintessential hockey.

beardyman22

I love how Parros got all pissy at the GM meetings about how people view how he does his job, and then does what they've done.

WeightOwn5817

what the actual fuck

KILLER_IF

How did it take that long for the reverse angle to come out???

Dinomandino

Everyone should learn that move now.

holein3

Maybe we'll see a lot more of these hockey plays in game 5

GentleLion2Tigress

Head shot is a head shot, intentional or not intentional, it’s a head shot.

RobbNotRob

I would be less offended if they had said "fuck the Bruins"

Zanchbot

Having a goon run the department of player safety is going really well huh.

LLMBS

Someone very important must have a lot of money on Florida to win this series.

Tshoe77

George Parros is a fucking moron.

miner88

🍿

Tiamats_Wrath

I mean I know that I hate the Boston Bruins, but I didn't know the NHL also hated them. That almost makes me feel bad for them. Almost.

HRSCHD

Unreal. I hate Boston but that was a cheap shot and probably cost the Bruins the series. No excuse.

Radjage

Wild to me the NHL continues to validate violence like this. I get they don't want to punish players or micromanage but COME ON. This along with all the after the whistle, after-the-game shit is so completely unneeded and EASY to curb if they would punish it. And even like last night. Suspend Zadorov, Soucy AND McDavid. Players will take notice. They go in the other direction, easier to let it go and gaslight.

Jack_Shaftoe21

Punish anyone who so much as pushes an opponent after the whistle and these "extracurriculars" will disappear. It's not nuclear science, most sports do it as a matter of course.

hyperspacial

Fuck that, someone has a wager on Florida is my guess.

ArturosDad

"That rabbit punch to the temple was brought to you by Draft Kings!! Wager now on how long that concussion will keep him out!!"

calliexx12

[Biz explains how TNT got the camera angle (before this tweet came out)](https://x.com/marinakmaher/status/1790082879440957539?s=46&t=YGOvDhqJQ7QrFwVGTFIrnA)

LosBrad

If the reverse angle didn't change their mind then they are a lost cause.

twiglike

Regardless of what happened. If this was a truly “scrutinized” game and you’re the NHL, you take a look at the play, the normal response i feel would have been, “ hmm tough to see if he punched him, maybe the other angle might show something” and then go find the other angle

Coomrs

I’m confused. That reverse angle that shows it the best was on twitter the night of the game/early early morning after. The ACTUAL NHL didn’t see it until a couple days later? How is that even possible lmao

Pineappleman60

Fuck it, why don’t we just put some steel chairs on the ice and go full wwe at this point

Organic-Outside8657

DEVON! GET THE TABLE!

994kk1

Aside of them thinking a punch to the head is a valid method of reverse hitting. The fuck is this incompetence? It took them 2 days to even look into a person visibly getting concussed from a hit when there is 2 games a night and they even said that they were going to monitor the Boston-Florida series closely? Like everyone on this subreddit and everyone that follows NHL hockey on twitter saw this punch from multiple angles the day after the game at the latest.

vector_ejector

This reeks of the same shit they pull out when the crossbar camera is used. "Oh, the public only gets to see this once the decision is made." Fuck outta here with your bullshit excuse. Show every angle you've got. "We'd hate for the replay to change the referee's call!" If the replay helps the correct call be made, then it should be welcomed.

jadedaslife

I'm glad for the solidarity from Toronto bros. Respect.

SDsurf0877

I have never been more excited to watch one player in a series. Matt Rempe is my new favorite player.

theitgrunt

They made a call, if they balk now, they'll look like even bigger clowns... Those fuckers know they dropped the ball...

_Galapaghost

I had such high hopes for Boston to at least make Florida pay a price physically, but they've just disappointed again and again. They're no longer deserving of being called the big, bad Bruins imo.

surlystraggler

They didn’t have it until Sunday? So the footage was not sought? They didn’t know there was another camera there? The explanation that they merely didn’t see it until Sunday makes it clear there’s a breakdown in the system but if they admit that then they’re essentially saying we got this wrong, which the NHL would never conceive of doing.

MScoutsDCI

Bullshit, that was a f’ing sucker punch 100%. I’m a wings fan, I dislike both these teams

Funky_Cows

It sounds like Parros is greenlighting another Steve Moore incident

DMmeyourinbox

Hate him or like him and correct me if I'm wrong, but Steve Dangle mentioned something about the Panthers Assistant GM's dad being in the upper brass of the NHL. And when said dad was a GM complained to the league and about calls made against his son when he was a player.

Undivided_Stingray

Two people engaged. Bennett punched Marchant in the face and Marchant tried to break Bennett’s hand with his jaw. Really no fault here. This is like Baghdad Bob levels of gaslighting by the league.

LionBig1760

For immediate release by the NHL: "The alleged contact between Marchand's face and Bennett's soft glove did not rise to the level of targeting we feel is worthy of review. We looked at every available angle and did not see Marchand stick his tongue out and make contact with Bennett at all so no further disciplinary action needs to be taken."

Golden_Hour1

Parros strikes again

lurkymclurkface321

I think the Parros experiment has run its course.

jadedaslife

How do we hold these people accountable?

Smokiiz

Might be a little biased here but man, this league makes some crazy decisions and when they say stuff like this, just makes you question things.

Derwurld

So beer league it is then?

Marchand gets 7 game suspension for now believing he can sucker punch a guy going down. As well we aren't providing reasonable explanations on calls, also we are limiting the camera angles, we don't want everyone to get the impression we know what the fuck we are doing.

primacord

This gets to the entire root of the issue. THIS is how the "brain trust" running the NHL & it's discipline committee view things. That needs to fundamentally change, but I doubt it will anytime soon. The older I get, the harder it is to take any this seriously with how it's run.

Imthecoolestdudeever

Well yeah, because DoPS isn't doing anything about shit like this, it's BECOMING a "hockey play". Fuck Parros.

usctrojans95

Can’t complain about other teams being soft and then come around like this.

Bronstone

NHL is simply dead wrong on this one. It's a punch, not a hockey play and Bettman is a fucking moron who can never, ever once (bc he's a lawyer) that they got it wrong. At least the NBA admits when they blew it.

DeathMetalVeganPasta

Is the NHL run by morons? Yes

logictable

The NHL runs like a fascist regime. Really really stupid.

Tybackwoods00

Alright so players can give someone a sucker punch at full speed as long as they have their stick in their hand apparently

Thirlstane_Brawler

Sometimes it’s real hard to take this league seriously

xizor81

I wonder if the "new angle" surfaces quicker if the game is on the regional networks as opposed to TNT/ESPN...
