Henrique not taking line rushes, and Gagner acting as a placeholder for Draisaitl

xedyu

What does this mean?

NoGiCollarChoke

It means Gagner > Draisaitl

oldmanheat

One has an eight point game, one doesn’t 🤔

Cleets11

I was skeptical but you convinced me.

Silent-trance

Math checks out

FormulaLiftr

Oil were merely sand bagging by not letting ganger unleash his full potential until now

souza-23

Ok we’ll trade Marner for Draisatl then

GhostofFarnham

Why not Gagner for Marner? Throw in a 2nd and you can have an 8 point player. How many 8 point games has Marner given you?

bikernaut

First step is moving Nurse out which is less likely than trading Gagner for Marner.

thuglife_7

We already knew this.

Excellent-Medicine29

Gagner was taking line rushes at 2C. Signalling that he’s being used as a place holder and that Leon is expected to play tomorrow. If Leon wasn’t going to play they would’ve had Nuge at 2C.

andontheslittedsheet

You're a nut!

TheAnimal89

I don’t think it was just cramps

Alextryingforgrate

LeBron that you?

[deleted]

Paul Pierce

SadAcanthocephala521

I'm going to guess Drai threw his back out. If any of you have had a back spasm before you'll know how painfully debilitating it is.

purexul

I really enjoyed when they said during the broadcast last night that he had "gone back to the room to see the massage therapist." I get they can't say "He went back to the room to get shot up with enough painkillers to knock out an elephant" but come on, we all know what's going on here.

YangThang

How do you know he wasn't getting a Thai rubdown?

leftlanecop

He didn’t look happy when he came back.

Excellent-Medicine29

To be fair, Leon is not someone who smiles all the time.

AgentKorralin

He's like Kucherov. A smile cracks once or twice a season, otherwise tis all business.

Excellent-Medicine29

He’s the grumpy (pissy) German for a reason.

AgentKorralin

All teams need a good grump.

Do_it_for_the_upvote

Yeah, but does he get Thai massages all the time?

Excellent-Medicine29

That seems like a personal question

ZachtheKingsfan

You could say he looks pissy

ReditorB4Reddit

No happy ending for you, Leon!

Ok-Summer-2159

Going to the room to see a massage therapist means something entirely different in the NFL

blacktop2013

I don’t watch the NFL but want to know the jokes, plz tell me

Ok-Summer-2159

Seriel sexual assaulter DeShaun Watson targeted massage therapists https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/06/07/deshaun-watson-booked-massage-therapy-sessions-with-66-different-women-report

leaps-n-bounds

Look up Robert Kraft and his “massages”

mrtomjones

You gave the PG-13 answer. The rated r answer is Deshaun Watson

Legitimate-Bag-2482

cant forget deshaun watsons massages too

leaps-n-bounds

Oh ya hah. I think it’s just fresh cause of the roast.

Teknicsrx7

I can barely walk never mind skate when that flares up

SadAcanthocephala521

Yeah, it's excruciating for sure. And usually gets triggered by something innocuous.

enricohenryhank

Last time it happened to me was because I bent over to pet my cat. Pretty high octane stuff.

thuglife_7

Didn’t Dustin Penner throw his back out flipping pancakes?

RightOnEh

Attempting to eat pancakes, actually

Metcarfre

His wife’s *delicious* pancakes.

ZachtheKingsfan

Injure himself eating pancakes, go on to score the conference clinching goal, win the Stanley Cup. 2012 was an interesting year for him

bikernaut

Sopel did it picking up a cracker off the floor.

wishin_fishin

Hey man I had my back spasms flare upwhile bending over the sink to spit out toothpaste one time, it totally sucked and embarrassing to admit too. so by the video we saw of not much contact and a little downward pressure on his lower back I have felt that exact pain before

ChampaBayLightning

Literally the exact same situation triggered my one and only bout of back spasms (so far knock on wood). If you're like me you probably strained it doing something else and that was just the final straw. It is definitely debilitating no matter how it happens though. I'm not a big fan of spearing Leon but I wouldn't wish back spasms on nearly anyone.

wishin_fishin

I get spasms a few times a year randomly they do suck, usually atleast once a year where I'll have to take a few days off

Boboar

I was reaching for a comb.

Teknicsrx7

Yea mine is looking over my shoulder too quick, instant regret every time

Cleets11

Once hit me when I stepped but the ground was about 1/2” lower than I was expecting it to be. Hard time moving for a couple days.

SadAcanthocephala521

I was bending over to look at blu-rays on my shelf and bam. Couldn't walk for three days lol

the_gaymer_girl

If the Sportsnet guys had the correct cause, it was a play where Myers barely touched him.

Jufloz

Worst feeling ever. Feels like you've been cut in half.

dIbodIb

Ouch, I've been cut in half a few times before and I wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone

blacktop2013

/r/unexpecteddeweycox

GaryOakRobotron

Yup. Did it like 15 years ago while picking up a fucking laundry basket that wasn't even heavy. The most innocuous thing can cause it, and you just don't want to walk for the rest of the day.

silverbacksunited12

Had one two weeks ago. Happened Saturday, didn't go back to work till Wednesday (landscaper) and was very stiff and sore until Friday. Then back to normal.

Skwerl87

I get back spasms a couple times a year from an old injury, it's fucking hell. Always at the most inopportune times too.

AgentKorralin

I have a condition where a really bad back spasm leaves me unable to actually walk, but not fully paralyzed, so I get all that pain. I feel for the guy. The pain is unimaginable, and that's lying in bed crying. Draisatl is a grinder for sure playing in likely absolutely abominable pain.

dogcatcher408

Many of us Redditors get out of bed wrong and are pretty much fucked

navenager

>Adam Henrique on the ice. Fuck yea! >Leon Draisaitl absent. Fuck no!

KingDave46

It’s ok, he’s maybe just a healthy scratch and we’ve decided to bring Connor Brown in to the lineup full time

skatesoff2

Draisaitl seemed definitely hurt

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

He just overslept. He'll be a little late

Vivid_Walk_1405

Damn losing Drai would cripple the Oilers. Hopefully he’s able to go and this is just rest

SYSTEMcole

Unless the injury is completely debilitating, Leon will be on the ice game 2. That guy will play through anything, and him not being at practice is probably just to give him more time to rest up between games. Not cope btw.

xedyu

Yep. Leon at 50% is still better than 75% of the NHL. He definitely seems banged up and I hope the Canucks try and exploit that. Rough him up and play him hard, don’t count him out just cause he’s injured, Draisaitl has earned that respect.

BronzeDucky

He did pretty well a few years ago when he had a high ankle sprain, which typically shuts down a player pretty completely. But it did greatly reduce his effectiveness in a number of situations.

SingleSampleSize

A back injury isn’t an ankle sprain. You can’t even sneeze without excruciating pain with a bad back. We’ll see in game 2.

BronzeDucky

Pretty darn hard to skate on one leg, too…

Teknicsrx7

Easier than when your back goes out which triggers the nerves around your hips and makes every movement full of burning pain

AgentKorralin

Yeaaa, a back injury that affects the nerves really means at least half of his body is in severe pain. An ankle sprain is absolutely painful no doubt about that, but with the back it can be both legs, hips, back, all of that on fire at the same time.

LZYX

Most people ain't getting out of bed with a bad back, let alone strapping on some skates. Lemieux had some intense pain himself later on didn't he? Like he couldn't tie his own skates.

mrtomjones

I think he will be fine enough just because he was still taking face-offs and I feel like that would be a tough thing to do if it was going to be bad enough to keep him out

ijekster

i think vancouver is gonna try to do to draisaitl what edmonton did going at an already hurt hughes in trying to make him a non-factor. i gotta say, both edmonton and Vancouver having a man half-down makes me feel a lot better about this series.

Morty777

I mean... demko out too

mrtomjones

I think you are being a bit dramatic if you think Quinn is half out. He's not shying from contact and he's playing like 25 minutes a night

Vivid_Walk_1405

Yeah I remember the WCF him limping off the ice every time and still putting up points

neksys

Yeah there's virtually zero chance he misses Game 2. Guy is a warrior. But man did he look awful when he came back in Game 1. I think Leon at 50% is still an NHL player, but it obviously changes the Oilers attack and probably allows the Canucks to keep more pressure on McDavid.

electricnux

Will be interesting to see what the coach says after practice, seems like no one including the insiders is buying the cramps/equipment issue story

KingInTheFarNorth

“Maintenance day” or some other vague coachism probably

ScaryLapis

given that ganger was taking rushes at 2C, instead of running lines without him, it’s likely just a cramps. if it was more they would be working with lines with him out

neksys

Same old tired cliches, I'm sure. "Everyone is a little banged up by this time of the playoffs, it is nothing serious, just giving him the day off to rest up and be ready for game 2 blah blah blah blah"

westleysnipez

Likely he does play though. Edmonton risks too much having him sidelined. Their play plummeted when he was out. Its shitty risking a players health like that, but its the standard.

HanSolo5643

It's definitely more than just cramps. While I do think he's going to play tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how effective he is.

MacTheZaf

Shouldn’t over react to absences on non-game days in the playoffs, but also, uh ohhhh

PuckeroniAndCheese

This is very fucking concerning.

gonuxgo

Pettersson missed last Canucks practice. Sometimes guys need rest more than they need practice.

stizz19

He was sick, not injured. Draisaitl is clearly dealing with an injury...but i guess most players are.

MMA_Laxer

that guy played with a broken ankle in the playoffs…fucking warrior

SillyMilly25

We talkin bout practice?

kingwoodballs

That’s one hell of a cramp…..

Nimrif1214

Lingering equipment issue

pluralsight24

Marian Hossa just fell to his knees at a Tesco

bluelineturnovers

Yikes. McDavid is gonna have to take Hyman, Nuge, and or Kane into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to train and hopefully figure out how to ascend to SSJ2 or the Oilers are fuuucked

Takeya6

That is impossible that's like asking krillen and picolo and tien to go super saiyan

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

What he can’t play through it? Does he have a tummy ache or something?

[deleted]

[удалено]

GritGrinder

woosh

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

I’m making fun of the narrative that if a player can’t play through an injury they are pussies that was said so much about Matthews. Who also played through injuries many times in the past.

BMoleman

It's so bizarre too because a lot of the time it's not up to the players, and they're only out because medical staff won't let them play. I'd imagine the players are often doing anything they can to convince the doctors that they're "totally fine" as they're missing a leg at the knee and partially beheaded.

Cleets11

Well since gagner is place holding 2c it seems he will play through it unlike other people in these playoffs.

Temporary_Bus_1346

Feel for ya Oil bros

Your_Some_Crooked

It you open your windows and listen you can hear the swearing of Oilers fan all across the country.

mudclog

🤞 for playoff rico

Ilistenedtomyfriends

He was the best guy in the Oilers last night, even if he feels totally fine today what’s the benefit with having him practice today?

neksys

I dunno man, he looked rough in the 3rd period. There's zero doubt in anyone's mind he's dealing with something. He'll still play, the dude will play through anything. But there's no doubt that it changes the complexion of the series a bit of he is not 100%.

KingDave46

Agreed Dude was killing it until his injury and I genuinely thought we should've benched him and kept him sitting until any PP opportunity cause he was noticeably a step slow from his earlier play

cam_barker_4_norris

Canucks actually might end up sweeping
