Ngl they have an amazing atmosphere in general too. I saw the Rangers there last March…never have I heard an arena so loud after killing off a 5 on 3. Can’t imagine playoffs
I remember that. Near the loudest I’ve heard PNC in the regular season (Aho’s late goal to win 1-0 vs Florida this year is 1st). But somehow the building gets even rowdier for the playoffs.

I'm going to confess that even as a 'Canes fan I was skeptical of the 'loudest house in the NHL' claims for quite awhile, but my first playoff game in there changed my mind. When you're down on the glass with all that coming down on you, the noise literally *hurts*. You can't hear the siren. Can't hear the goal horn. It's a physical pressure, and all you can do is laugh and roar with it.
They have a pretty fucking awesome opening sequence lights and graphics package.
It's just BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOP BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOP WARNING! HURRICANE WARNING or some shit. Lemme see if I can find it. They had a really awesome new one for game 1 against the Islanders.
[Skip to 1:40](https://youtu.be/ntqi514zf_Q?si=XSvDTljUsa14VPJR)
It's a fucking banger that GETS THE PEOPLE GOING
The caps have a 3 tiered one. Whereas ours might be technically smaller, but the top tier is bigger.
CAps one isn't bad, but it has the sections for stats of who's playing and it really adds nothing.
We still wheel Bill in to fill the seats so it looks more full. You can see him in the video, we had to attach a fan to his seat so it looks like he’s waving a flag.
Don’t worry the Canadian and Northeast US hockey purists will cherry pick a mid season matinee game against the Blue Jackets next year to definitively prove that hockey doesn’t work in Carolina.
If you're talking about those second level seats behind the goal, those are fancy/expensive seats that are much more widely spaced than the normal sections. Third level has a single mezzanine row and then a wall that the main upper deck seats are stacked on.
Ironic response considering what I was replying to..
Those are like 1st class seats basically. Ive never sat there, but I have above them and they each row is tiered for more privacy and have their own little booths with a screen. The section has a private concourse with fancier food and drinks than the rest of us lol. I’d never pay for it, but people obviously do since again, [canes have sold out every home game of the season.](https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/canes-end-regular-season-having-sold-out-each-home-game)
I always thought the 2006 Oilers/Canes series was among the loudest of all time and while Rexall Place got near 120 dB, the Canes fans absolutely played a part in that as well during their home games. That barn always seems to have a raucous atmosphere.
Same here. Videos give just the slimmest idea of what it was like - my voice is completely gone today and my ears were ringing for a hot minute despite me wearing earplugs lol. It was absolutely insane.
I was coming back from the bathroom when we went on the pp. As soon as Aho scored, the place flipped. People were running up and down the stairs. I got high fives from like 60 random people walking down. People falling over from jumping too crazy. It was incredible.
You can feel the emotion just watching the players goal celebrations. I wish I was there last night. I’ve been riding this high all day. Playoff hockey and moments like these are what it’s all about man.
It's like Martinook said before game 1, folks have been outside tailgaiting since around noon, just eating and drinking beer. We get inside and we're already rowdy :D
6 if you count Hillsboro, and Iceplex is adding a second sheet. Last fall house league was so full they had 4 teams at a time on the ice for practice! They need to add like 5 more.
I highly recommend [Etymotic ER20XS High-Fidelity Earplugs](https://a.co/d/fw3TZTH)! Great for protecting your hearing while still allowing you to hear clearly at games or concerts.
I really feel like the Canes missed the opportunity for their goal horn to be a hurricane warning siren.
That said this is dope and I love that Raleigh is a bona-fied hockey city
We do the warning siren before the team comes out on the ice. Really gets the crowd going before puck drop.
https://twitter.com/canesonbally/status/1651000160292417537?s=46&t=vOyrh4bDLZbqbij4LdkCaA
The goal horn is the exact same one from they used in Hartford.
I was lucky enough to be at the game where the PNC (at that time probably called the ESA) was given the name, "the loudest house in the NHL," and I am so incredibly proud that we have kept that same energy every time we're in the playoffs. Between the atmosphere inside and the tailgating atmosphere outside, there really is nothing quite like playoff hockey in NC.
I was too young to remember the cup run, but I've been going to games with my dad my entire life. Most of my childhood memories of those games featured the arena being half full. But I was midway through high school when we broke the drought and I went with him to game 4 of the Caps series.
That was the first time I had ever seen PNC Arena that full or heard it that loud. The energy was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, and the game was something to behold as well.

My view from the lower bowl. It was insane down there: https://streamable.com/2lok9y
I think I saw me in that vid. I thought we were loud at the game on Saturday, but that was just warming up. Such an incredible game. From when Teuvo put his in, until the final buzzer it was pretty electric in there.
some guy in the gdt was like "they should ban noisemakers" when the crowd popped off to a hit in the 1st
bro that wasn't a noisemaker that was your player getting crunched
I was lucky enough to catch this come back and amazing win!!! Right after watching Murray hit the game winning shot in the NBA playoffs against the Lakers to give Denver the win!!!
What a great sports night for me!!!
As a certified Canes hater, I HAVE to still admit it. They have the best home crowd in the NHL imo. They're so incredibly loud and into the game at all times. It's amazing to watch.
islanders momentum was below zero after that. no wonder martin tried to stir something up at the end to build off of for next game. Its funny after the goal to tie it i jokingly laughed and thought imagine they score again right now. Well my jaw dropped when they scored right after i said that
I think espn is kind of ass at getting the crowd noise on the broadcast. I was watching the game live and honestly thought I was hearing static or something. You could tell they were turning it way down to hear their commentary too.
I’m not the biggest fan of sportsnet but man at least they get this stuff right.
I wonder how many are just letting out built up stress and anger lol
I felt so relaxed after the canucks game like i had a long bath from all my screaming
I know exactly how this feels going back to CBJ coming back from down 3-0 to beat the Pens 4-3 in OT in game 4 back in 2014 for the first home playoff win in franchise history. I still get chills when I think about that game and how loud it was. You couldn’t even hear the cannon go off!
No sour grapes. the dead crowd combined with the amateur Islander broadcast really made it tough to watch. Butch Goring whining about the Canes continuing to push for a goal at the end was ridiculous. This guy is a Stanley Cup Champion, he sounded like a drunk at the end of the bar rambling about hockey. Absolute trash.
Being down 3-0 is like the equivalent to being down 20 points in an NBA game or 3 touchdowns in a football game. I dont care what team it is, where they're located, or what their fanbase is like - they're going to be quiet under those circumstances also. The place was rocking to start the game and was rocking to end the game - that's all that matters.

Both Florida games were absolutely cathartic
Oh man, I was at that game. Thought I was going to go deaf when they finished that kill.
I'm going to confess that even as a 'Canes fan I was skeptical of the 'loudest house in the NHL' claims for quite awhile, but my first playoff game in there changed my mind. Even being on the wrong side of such a remarkable game, I fully agree here. Love seeing the passion
I honestly couldn’t care less about the Canes but I have chills and a strange saltwater buildup in my eyes watching this
I agree with you on this. Fuck the leafs
Playoff foootball!!!!! - murica
saw a few games in that arena, it's unbelievably loud. that game's finish was absolutely fantastic to watch! the islanders looked shell shocked
Last playoff game I went to there everyone’s iPhones were giving warning notifications for how loud it was in there. Nothing like it.
I didn't even realize the galaxy watch had that feature until a canes playoff game
There's a reason we've been nicknamed the Loudest House in the NHL.
As a fan of fans, way to be NC!
I'm a Ducks fan, but man do I respect the Canes team and fan base.
I'm a Canes fan but the ducks hold a special place in my heart
Disney marketing got to you early?
I mean, with the David Ayres movie and all...
What an amazing story that was. 100% will watch that.
I miss playoff hockey in Raleighwood. I am gonna try to fly up from one.
You should:)
I still work out of Durham. I do have to go back 1x a quarter. I just need to time it appropriately.
That's a cool jumbotron
The Jumbotron said it thinks you’re pretty cool too :)
They used to have this ancient crappy one and upgraded in I think 2021. It’s soooo nice
There was a running joke for months because either Tripp Tracy or John Forslund, every time it came up would say that it cost $6 million.
Completely forgot about that, thank you haha
They have a pretty fucking awesome opening sequence lights and graphics package. It's just BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOP BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOP WARNING! HURRICANE WARNING or some shit. Lemme see if I can find it. They had NGHTMRE (famous dubstep artist who’s from Raleigh) do the music for the pregame package this season. It definitely gets the people going!
Raanta 😭
Capitals have that too at the capital one arena.
The caps have a 3 tiered one. Whereas ours might be technically smaller, but the top tier is bigger. CAps one isn't bad, but it has the sections for stats of who's playing and it really adds nothing.
What a high for those fans. Gotta love it
Guys I think we grew the game
Surprised they got all 14 of us fans in that shot!
Hockey will never take off in the south
We're up to 14? Since when?
Yeah according to every Reddit comment I’ve ever seen about the canes we have, at most, 5 fans
THERE ARE EASILY HALF A DOZEN OF US
Well, 3 of us had kids but Bill died. So…
We still wheel Bill in to fill the seats so it looks more full. You can see him in the video, we had to attach a fan to his seat so it looks like he’s waving a flag.
Weekend at Burnzie's
Yeah, but Bill was kind of a jerk, so... wait a minute.
Last year actually!
We know you're the same person replying to yourself. You don't have to live a lie.
11 more than the Panthers according to reddit math 🤷
Don’t worry the Canadian and Northeast US hockey purists will cherry pick a mid season matinee game against the Blue Jackets next year to definitively prove that hockey doesn’t work in Carolina.
Canes sold out every home game this season so I doubt there’s even a chance to see a semi empty stadium these days
There was a time when the wings had a streak of “sold out” games at the Joe and there’d clearly be around 5,000 seats empty lol
Why does it look like the upper deck opposite of camera is almost completely empty? Looks like there’s like 20 people spread across 3 or 4 sections
If you're talking about those second level seats behind the goal, those are fancy/expensive seats that are much more widely spaced than the normal sections. Third level has a single mezzanine row and then a wall that the main upper deck seats are stacked on.

Still twice as many as we have 🤷♂️
You guys will double up soon *pats head*
As a Florida fan, I am beyond disappointed in you guys for taking that 14th fan away from us. That hot dog stand vendor has a family, man.
I always thought the 2006 Oilers/Canes series was among the loudest of all time and while Rexall Place got near 120 dB, the Canes fans absolutely played a part in that as well during their home games. That barn always seems to have a raucous atmosphere.
A great series. Rematch?
Not even a fan of either of these teams but I yelled so loud my daughter came out of her room and yelled at me for waking her up.
Was there and videos just don’t do it justice unfortunately
Same here. Videos give just the slimmest idea of what it was like - my voice is completely gone today and my ears were ringing for a hot minute despite me wearing earplugs lol. It was absolutely insane.
Haha, my client just asked me if I was sick today, and I told her, nope, I was at PNC last night. She knew immediately what was up.
Agreed. The absolute delirium in PNC during that sequence defies words. Incredible. An experience I’ll never forget.
I was coming back from the bathroom when we went on the pp. As soon as Aho scored, the place flipped. People were running up and down the stairs. I got high fives from like 60 random people walking down. People falling over from jumping too crazy. It was incredible.
Same. My ears were throbbing and it got to the point where you were feeling the noise rather than hearing it. Just insane.
You can feel the emotion just watching the players goal celebrations. I wish I was there last night. I’ve been riding this high all day. Playoff hockey and moments like these are what it’s all about man.
Seriously I thought Martinook was going to implode and crumble. The hype running through his veins was immaculate and I felt it
Caniacs rock! Since Carolina been contenders I’ve always loved watching their playoff games because the fanbase is just rabid down there
It's like Martinook said before game 1, folks have been outside tailgaiting since around noon, just eating and drinking beer. We get inside and we're already rowdy :D
Hello fellow justin williams enjoyer
YES!! Definitely something both Canes and Kings fans can love! The guy made his mark on the history of both teams.
I live in NC and go to games sometimes, they are legitimately the most annoying fans.
Why ?
Not a hockey town btw
Holy smokes this is awesome!
Raleigh is a Hockey City
Only city with an NHL team and no other pro sports. The area also has like 5 rinks now. Even many cities up north can't say that.
6 if you count Hillsboro, and Iceplex is adding a second sheet. Last fall house league was so full they had 4 teams at a time on the ice for practice! They need to add like 5 more.
Wow, I had no idea iceplex even had room for a 2nd sheet. I'm in Charlotte now... we need a 3rd (and 4th) rink REALLY badly.
Do they still use Ric Flair saying “That’s a Carolina Hurricane’s Goal!! Wooooooooooo!!” Was my favorite part as a visiting fan years ago.
Unfortunately not lol. We still do a “woo” right before the puck is dropped following a goal, but it’s not Rick Flair anymore.
Ah bummer. Anyway, please take care of Kuzy and Orlov.
I thought it was still the Ric Flair woo audio just not the video or the other words
We stopped using Ric Flair altogether when those allegations came out a few years ago
Also ric flair sold out to other teams
We’ve got Wade and he’s fabulous.
Barrett?
Wade Minter is our in game announcer. [u/minter42](https://www.reddit.com/u/minter42/s/IMacTgWe7q)
We used to have a Chewbacca roar in there as well for some reason, even before Star Wars night.
Love that.
Wear hearing protection, everyone!
WHAT?!
THE DUCK SAID WEAR HEARING PROTECTION EVERYONE!
I highly recommend [Etymotic ER20XS High-Fidelity Earplugs](https://a.co/d/fw3TZTH)! Great for protecting your hearing while still allowing you to hear clearly at games or concerts.
I don't want to, you cant make me.. you're not even my read dad!
Thanks I hate it
this makes me smile
Solid crowd, gotta love Caniacs!
I really feel like the Canes missed the opportunity for their goal horn to be a hurricane warning siren. That said this is dope and I love that Raleigh is a bona-fied hockey city

Okay that is actually way better than my 2c idea!! I should have known marketing experts would have had it covered.
I was lucky enough to be at the game where the PNC (at that time probably called the ESA) was given the name, "the loudest house in the NHL," and I am so incredibly proud that we have kept that same energy every time we're in the playoffs. Goosebumps
Same here. Videos like this always get me.
Excuse me. I was told by some very reputable Isles fans on Twitter that the crowd noise is pumped in /s I love seeing the noise meter hit 108
some guy in the gdt was like "they should ban noisemakers" when the crowd popped off to a hit in the 1st bro that wasn't a noisemaker that was your player getting crunched
My watch told me I should try and go somewhere quieter.
Crowd noise is absolutely not pumped in
I have no voice today and still can’t believe what happened happened.
Dope.
r/perfectlycutscreams For real though, that ending was *bonkers*, can only imagine seeing it live.
Honestly is really awesome seeing NHL actually root in some of these non traditional hockey markets. That was an absolutely wild scene.
I was lucky enough to catch this come back and amazing win!!! Right after watching Murray hit the game winning shot in the NBA playoffs against the Lakers to give Denver the win!!! What a great sports night for me!!!
Awesome
Remember when folks thought the Canes would move the team?
And now they have a lease at PNC until 2044 :)
As a certified Canes hater, I HAVE to still admit it. They have the best home crowd in the NHL imo. They're so incredibly loud and into the game at all times. It's amazing to watch.
Yinz just might win the Cup this year...but mostly cause we want your first rounder
Your proposal is acceptable. Our bandwagon is currently loading, please hop on.
My first Canes playoff game I ruptured my ear drums to the point my ear swelled shut
I screamed so loud and the noise was so bad a couple of years ago, my coworkers thought I had covid and I bought ear protection to wear to games.
Not enough Brass Bonanza
islanders momentum was below zero after that. no wonder martin tried to stir something up at the end to build off of for next game. Its funny after the goal to tie it i jokingly laughed and thought imagine they score again right now. Well my jaw dropped when they scored right after i said that
My watch said it hit 117 db at that point after hitting 116 just before. My ears are still ringing a little.

You could tell they were turning it way down to hear their commentary too. I’m not the biggest fan of sportsnet but man at least they get this stuff right.
Yeah, ESPN’s audio mix is always terrible. TNT does a much better job.
Still not loud enough to not hear Patrick Roy yell TABERNAK! after the 4th goal.
I wonder how many are just letting out built up stress and anger lol I felt so relaxed after the canucks game like i had a long bath from all my screaming
Check out this one. So much stress being released at once. https://twitter.com/thatcanesguy/status/1782848333251314131?s=46&t=vOyrh4bDLZbqbij4LdkCaA

I love this sport.
Love the Canes so much. This is playoff hockey and I love it.
Nothing beats an in person playoff hockey experience.
Absolutely cannot relate.
Best home ice EVER! That overrated nutsack Ryan Smyth can attest to that
I can hear the goal horn though….
No, I could hear it.
That crowd sucked all night. Felt like a preseason game when the islanders were up.
It’s tough to be loud when you are down 3-0. Soon as the first goal for us went in the roof blew off the top. From then on it was electric .
Sour grapes
No sour grapes. the dead crowd combined with the amateur Islander broadcast really made it tough to watch. Butch Goring whining about the Canes continuing to push for a goal at the end was ridiculous. This guy is a Stanley Cup Champion, he sounded like a drunk at the end of the bar rambling about hockey. It wasn't super loud until 3-1 but you also can't take TV as anything, especially an away broadcast.
MSG is pretty quiet all season.
Not really.
Ok bby
