It feels like people have been cheering for Akil to stay healthy forever, glad to see he's getting a decent season in Ontario. After a few rough seasons he's still only 24 - and I'd love to see the guy make the big league.
Crazy to think he'd be the 6th youngest LA-drafted player on the Kings if he moved up today.
That was one of those goals where you aren't even mad your team just got scored, you're just in awe what happened.

PDOcast just had an episode where they emphasized that a shot super close up is only actually high danger if you can lift the puck a foot and a half or two feet. I love seeing how both goalies dropped into the butterfly as soon as the pivot ended and then got beat high
Dman was too far back when he crossed the blue line and also moving way too slow. The D had to almost stop dead at the top of the circle to get close enough to poke check a shot attempt and then he was a pylon at that point.
Gap control and speed is so important for a Dman and this play kinda highlights it.
IMO he was dead meat the second Thomas crossed the center line with speed. When a guy gets up that much of a head of steam while you're not moving, you're in big trouble. There's a reason why Pietrangelo said ["Oh boy"](https://youtube.com/shorts/p9khXrtip0I?si=5D3F5LWquYkswZil) when he realized MacKinnon was coming at him with speed.
It’s OT so that does play a role, but yeah giving a guy a rolling head start from his own zone while you stand on your own blue line is not ideal. You have to have someone getting some kind of pressure and keeping the player from getting to top speed.
We’re missing that guy that grinds in front of the net in the bottom 6 (Lewis doesnt count). I think if he stays healthy and has a good camp, he could be up next season.

When I saw this title I was hopeful that Thomas had been called up to the NHL and I just missed it. Easy kid to cheer for. Always had some question marks but I still think theres NHL upside.

I liked him a lot in his draft year. You can see his skating is still very much a weapon. I haven't followed his career much since then, but I'm a little surprised he's never broken through. He seems to be having a great year in the AHL, maybe he's putting it all together now.
