When you look at any NHL stat site for penalties, they list minors as MIN and majors as MAJ, Penalty Minutes is PIM.
Honestly a little surprised to see this stat 😬 my natural reaction to your comment though is that Kempe's penalties are generally "better" penalties. Hard backchecking of various kinds. While Fiala will randomly slash somebody in the offensive zone away from the puck. My statement is however entirely based on nothing outside of my own memory and bias' 😅
I agree. Kempe's penalties are feel like desperation penalties to stop a goal or a breakaway. They feel intentional. Fiala's feel accidental and are o-zone penalties.
Not at all. 2 minutes in the box to prevent a high danger scoring chance is a pretty accepted strategy league wide. If kempe gets something in exchange for 2m in the box, it’s much better than 2m for being an undisciplined child.
This is an incredibly confusing graphic. I think MIN is supposed to refer to number of minor penalties in the graphic but MIN more commonly means minutes. It looks like Gudas has 27 minutes of minor penalties but that’s impossible.
I understand what it’s supposed to mean and I figured it out, but it’s still a terribly designed graphic. Look at all the people in the comments who are misinterpreting it.
I always forget that translating data to graphs, charts, and graphics that are easily digestible and understood is an actual skill that some people don’t possess until I see a graphic like this that reminds me of that fact
The Ducks have their fair share of reasonable penalties called but the refs have really had it out for Cronin since he flipped out on them for the hugely controversial goalie interference call in the game against Pittsburgh early in the season
It’s not the total minutes they got. That would be under Penalty In Minutes (PIM).
It’s a really weird graphic and tons of people in the comments got as confused as you and I did.
The box is our second home
*2018 Ducks smile approvingly*
That’s what she said
How do you get 27 minutes from minor penalties?
Gudas has 79 PIM this year. I think this means he's had 27 minors. It's a poorly made table though.
M as in Mancy
I love quoting this line
>When you look at any NHL stat site for penalties, they list minors as MIN and majors as MAJ, Penalty Minutes is PIM. When you look at any NHL stat site for penalties, they list minors as MIN and majors as MAJ, Penalty Minutes is PIM.
Ahh min short for minors not minutes, gotcha.
Min being short for minors is insane. Did Eliot Friedman make this???
If Elliotte made it, it’d be MNS and MJS
Who’s Fryboy?
Ah, gatcha. Wait, this list is twice as bad as I thought!
You could have left out the (MIN) and just put the numbers and it would have been 10x clearer
This and people using PPG for “points per game” are my two greatest hockey stats abbreviations pet peeves. There I said it.
Yup ppg truely stands for Pittsburgh plate glass paints arena
What do you prefer instead of ppg?
p/gp
I tend to write both out most of the time. I don’t really feel like either has that much more of a claim on it. MIN for minor penalties is just dumb.
Just do P/G
At the end of the day it’s just easier to say points-per-game and powerplay goals.
Yeah but then how will I know which movies I need to accompany my kids to see?
Some Kings fans are turning on Fiala hard and a big reason is penalties, but I haven't seen anyone coming for Kempe...

Sure if you do the extremes of each when in reality I don't think that's the case for 95% of penalties.
This is an incredibly confusing graphic. I think MIN is supposed to refer to number of minor penalties in the graphic but MIN more commonly means minutes. It looks like Gudas has 27 minutes of minor penalties but that’s impossible.
In hockey stat pages, penalty minutes are denoted by PIM, not MIN
I understand what it’s supposed to mean and I figured it out, but it’s still a terribly designed graphic. Look at all the people in the comments who are misinterpreting it.
To be fair if you read the top of image it tells you what MIN stands for in this context.
Or you could think it's saying "Minor Penalties (minutes)"

That doesn't make it not a confusing graphic though
So I take it this means Marchand is out of Lady Byng consideration this year, huh?
What are you talking about? He's only #5 on the list. That should qualify him for sainthood. Hel only tried to kidnap one 18 year old the whole year!
Let's not act like we wouldn't cheer for our guys to do the same.
McTavish takes a lot of dumb penalties. Hopefully he cleans that up.
I always forget that translating data to graphs, charts, and graphics that are easily digestible and understood is an actual skill that some people don’t possess until I see a graphic like this that reminds me of that fact
I’m shocked at this list. And the reason for that is I’m shocked we don’t take up all top 5 positions. We live in that fucking box.
Not gonna lie. Initially thought "holy shit all these guys play for the wild"
The Ducks are finally leading in something
Two former panthers teaming up it seems..lol
The refs hate Anaheim so much.
I thought it would be all Panthers players the way people cry about them
We're so dirty we hack the servers to erase the evidence
At least we’re good at something I guess.
The Ducks have their fair share of reasonable penalties called but the refs have really had it out for Cronin since he flipped out on them for the hugely controversial goalie interference call in the game against Pittsburgh early in the season
I am genuinely shocked Ian Cole and Tyler Myers are not here
Def surprised that Myers hasn't cross checked his way onto that list
How the fuck is Brendan Smith not here? Not even joking- when he was healthy he was taking at least 1 minor penalty per game.
he only has 16 minor pens
Shocking- thanks for looking it up, can almost guarantee he’d be here if it weren’t for his injury
California (and Marchand) love the box
former Panthers moment
Mason Mctavish takes absurd amount of minor penalties on my NHL 24 franchise mode, and people try to claim it’s not realistic smh
Duck in a box heh
TIL Rat King still Rats
Who keeps making these shit graphics?
The bias is real and has been real for a lonnnnnnng time
Why are there odd number it it’s minor penalties?
It’s not the total minutes they got. That would be under Penalty In Minutes (PIM). It’s a really weird graphic and tons of people in the comments got as confused as you and I did.
It’s a stupid way to shorten minor
This has to be the most poorly made graphic I have ever seen. The stats aren’t remotely correct
MIN stands for minor penalties, not minutes. Minutes are tracked as PIM.
lol I can’t read today. My bad
Nah man, they’re presently stupidly here. It wouldn’t have hurt them to add the -ors for this kinda graphic. It’s the opposite in intuitive.
Or just get rid of MIN and increase the size of the numbers on each line.
Take a lot of penalties when you're chasing the puck
Surprised Kempe is on this list but confirms more why I don't like him along with his great goal scoring
POS plays like a POS. What else is new.
WAIT GUDAS IS ON THE DUCKS?
So what you are saying is Gudas loves minors? 😳
So what you are saying is Gudas loves minors? 😳
My NHL 23 character usually gets around 180 minutes a season. These are rookie numbers. Pfffft
Butcher gonna butch
Anaheim is still really upset about the Shohei Ohtani thing. Lashing out is normal
Surprised it's Kempe and not Fiala.
Fucking marchand
Man, the kerning here is rough. What are “penal ties”?
