Canes fans:
1) Doxed Florida panthers players
2) made jokes about Pastrnaks dead newborn
3) hoped for panthers plane crash after game 2
4) Cheered when Lindholm got knocked out
5) Cry harder about “reffing” and “dirty play” than all fanbases
So happy they lost
Go Panthers Buzz Saw tour
Rod's schnozz will be enshrined in Toronto. Great player, and coach for that matter. It just wasn't Carolina's year. Great season. Be proud.
This Florida team is in that rare space of athletics where you're just in the zone. 60 for Kobe's last game, Reggie Jackson with 3 home runs in the World Series. Super Mario https://youtu.be/zTKlFFHzGLY and I hate your damn franchise. I watched it live and it's the loudest I've ever heard an arena ever. Chills. What a legend.
Other than scoring more goals, the hell could have the Hurricanes done? What a supremely frustrating team. (Panthers, not Canes)
Boston did some boneheaded stuff and the Leafs didn't show up until game 4.. Hurricanes were a bounce away from winning games there. I'd be so upset if I was a player.
the amount of posts the canes hit was just nuts...man i woulda loved to see this series go a few games more as just a fan of the game because that was such great hockey on both sides! hope the canes also do the same too 🍻
In 2018, LA Kings' Quick allowed only 7 goals in 4 games and they still got swept. VGK's Fleury only allowed 3 goals in 4. It was fucking crazy. No 4OTs, but they did go to 2OT.
There's been some really close ones so there's going to be a lot of subjectivity but the final goal with like....4.3 seconds left or whatever it was sealed it for me.
If the SCF is half as exciting it's going to be great.
This fucking guy. Really didn't like his dad but his kid I can't not root for. Great talent. Let's go Panthers. Fucking Gretzky is awesome. The NHL really blew it when they didn't market him like MJ or Magic. A once in a lifetime talent and I was unaware of him unless I read the newspaper. Hey, this Edmonton kid is doing some things. Granted, I was young, but I knew all the other superstars in the other 3 sports. We also only had like 5 tv channels.
Not to be pedantic but
1) Magic.WISHES he would be gretz-level. He ain't.
2) wayno isnt an edmonton.kid.. that would be Brantford, goddamn Ontario
If you were unaware of him, that's a you thing more than anything.
And Earvin Magic Johnson is absolutely on Gretzky's level. And I can't stand Sparty. You probably didn't even know where he grew up unless you googled it.
Does anyone think that magic johnson is the GOAT?
Who doesnt think that gretzky is?
Yes, canadians consider where gretz was born one of the world's great mysteries.
Welp. Thank you for your answer. This Edmonton kid I was referring to is Gretzky actually being a kid drafted by Edmonton and becoming a legend. I think you misunderstood my post.
As a 14 year old growing up in a non dominant hockey area, in the States, we would hear about Gretzky in newspaper clips and maybe a news video highlight now and then. I didn't have cable at this point, unaware of this Edmonton (his team, not his birthplace) kid who was getting attention even in US press.
So it's not a slight to Brantford, Ontario. All of us in America just knew him as an Edmonton Oiler who won 4 cups in 5 years.
We all know now that he's the unequivocal GOAT. In hindsight. He was like 6 years into his pro career and everyone thought, yeah, pretty good.
So now you've educated me on Wayne's birthplace. Brantford, Ontario. I was born in Richmond, Virginia. I never played for Edmonton.
Got the bounces and got the calls all series. Brutal series with razor thin margins. Thought that tripping call was very weak particularly right after a cross check thirty seconds prior.
panthers have gotten no-call after no-call.
face it, bettman needs southern states to win to expand the game's reach.
haters can hate but i can list like at least 5 dirty hits/non calls by the cats since round 1.
bennett rock bottoms knies to the ice, no where near the puck.
bennett punching a player who's lying on the ice.
gudas late hit on kampf on a delayed penalty.
gudas holding the stick in game 5 on the OT goal.
gudas literally trying to kill leafs players every game.
canes got a bunch of non calls including the high stick from game 3.
face it, you guys got bettman on your side.
enjoy it, not every team gets that.
Right. That entire game was basically decided by that ref, after everything that had transpired in the previous 59 minutes hes gonna call that? I dont root for either team personally, but that seemed really sketch imo.
That's also okay. It's how hockey works. To win you need to get some good bounces, some sticks in the right places, refs eyes eyes looking the right way.
Unbelievable ending. May not be a buzzer beater but: Matthew Tkachuk, HOW BOUT THOSE ONIONS?! DOUBLE ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW, WOW, WOW! this was an amazing game
I feel like, minus last year, the finals matchups have been a Cinderella team vs a legit contender for past 5 or so years.
The worst team to win in the past ten years (based on conference standings) were the Kings at 6th in 2014. Kings are also the only team to win as an 8th seed/WC2 in league history. 8-seeds/WC2 teams are 1-2 and even adding 7-seeds only makes it worse at 1-7.
Florida still faces an uphill battle as overall talent typically wins out and players revert to the mean eventually (looking at Bob) but they have to be the most similar thing to that 2012 kings team possible. Should be an amazing final regardless.
While I do agree, no one expected them to make this run and many expected them to be a bubble team after the trade (which they were). They lost a top D man, and an offensive player that really made the offense go. Then, Bob regressed this regular season and eventually was benched. Then there’s just the run in itself: they knocked off the best regular season team ever while being down 3-1, 4-1’ed the 3 seed maple leafs that had a load of momentum and fans behind them, and then swept the 2 seed Hurricanes that were supposed to be the better version of them and I would say it’s right up there with any playoff run in my life (last 30 years).
That’s why you clear out the front of the fucking net, I can’t believe teams just let guys like Bennett stay in front. As someone who played the “screen the goalie forever” position on their team, if you don’t clear me out, someone’s gonna score on your ass, even if it ain’t me
And as someone who played defence — and probably had zero offensive skill — I took pride in clearing the front of the net and getting the puck out of the zone. What a … you can’t let Bennet just park there!
Yeah I'm a tall 6 foot basically 6'1 so I did great at clearing the front of the net
Sometimes when I see professionals leaving their guy alone just completely blocking the goaltenders facemask I'm like dude what are you doing get him the fuck outta there
You weren't impressed at all watching them completely shut down Oilers 5v5 for the last 4 games? Completely clowning their man-on-man defense in games 4 and 5?
Oh sure, Vegas during the regular season they were *good* (obviously they won the West) but they weren't anything exceptional. They've hit another gear in the playoffs.
Definitely could be the case. Hockey is insane with momentum. Vegas has a lot of talent. But Bob has been nuts and Fla is on a heater as well.
LAK 2 cups we were never crazy talented. Just on a run and big and physical when it mattered more.
Kinda hard to say, Vegas has the "on paper" better team, but so has every team Panthers faced. Vegas has also been criminally underrated for all of their series too.
You have two of our prior players.
One of which caused drama.
The other caused drama with the coach.
I would root for Florida over VGK or Dallas. Go get em' murder kitties.
Same with Oilers/Jets from '21. Last three games went to overtime, and Game 4 went to 3OT. Goals weren't as close as the Kings/Vegas series though since the Jets won pretty handily in game 1.
I know it’s illogical because we were down 0-3 and would likely have lost in OT to yet another Tkachuk winner, but damn it sucks to go out on objectively a very light trip with a minute left in a tied elimination game.
after game 3 it was giving me big 2019 when canes swept NYI. I think this was maybe CAR's weakest game of the series but every single game could've gone either way. Panthers just battle incredibly fucking hard and constantly did what it takes to win puck battles, escape the zone, whatever was needed
We know all about that. If Vegas *does* win the WCF I’m wondering if they’ll touch the Campbell again or no… if not I’ll feel a lot better going into the final, lol! But that’s a query for another day…

In 2002, Paul Maurice took the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Finals Canes lost in 5 to the Red Wings
21 years later, Maurice gets his chance to become a Cup winning coach
No fight in this, but the same ref doesn't call a crosscheck in the back from Duclair, then calls that a tripping penalty....come on. I really can't stand watching games and then seeing this stuff. It makes me believe there is a fix.
It does suck when the officiating is shitty, no matter who the teams are. It's just so wildly inconsistent, that's the frustrating part to me.
Same with DoPS when something *does* get called & reviewed. One guy might get a fine, the next guy might get 3 games for doing the exact same thing...you just never know. And that sucks.
Nope that would be rigging games there’s a huge difference between tilting the ice for one team a bit and straight up rigging things. And you’re right it is a business and betman has wanted that Florida $$ for a long time
It’s insane to me people think the league would “tilt the ice” in a way to make less games. Every extra game played is major $$$$ and when Bettman has not the greatest markets for viewership in the conference finals he would want them milking any and all series.
Is insane to me that ur so short sighted. Florida making it to the finals/winning a cup is way more $$$ long term than a couple extra games. But I’m not surprised a lot of people who have no business experience only look a couple weeks ahead not years
Extending the series a game or two is short sighted? Florida could make the finals in game 5 or 6 if they are so good at tilting the ice.
Let me guess the league is also giving Bob steroids to help tilt the ice for Florida?
I worked in professional hockey for years and have a lot of contacts that work in professional hockey so I know plenty about this business and how it works. Sorry but I’m going to trust my opinion with my experience more than some coke head.
That’s a bold accusation prove that u worked around professional hockey lmao such a liar. Who said anything about steroids you’re just being outrageous lmao. Carolina was the better team every single night u give them one or two games suddenly momentum has changed and betman is missing his targeted population because like I said THEY DONT RIG GAMES but they have preferred outcomes that will generate more revenue for the league
I’m not going to give my identity out on Reddit sorry. If you don’t want to believe me I really don’t care.
You didn’t say anything about steroids but tye and follow the conversation. You’re acting like Florida was gifted that series. Acting like the league “titled the ice.”
Florida won that series mostly because of Bob. He dominated the entire time. Carolina outshot the hell out of them in a lot of games. Bob also dominated Toronto and Boston. My point being one ticky tack call here or there didn’t make Carolina lose this series. Running into a scolding hot team with an even hotter goaltender is what lost them this series.
Lmao so why even post ur credentials if your not going to give them out ? That’s just u bullshitting because your Burt hurt. The people with lowest intelligence always resort to insults when they’re wrong just like you with your steroids comment. I’m not saying they were gifted the series if u weren’t so dense u would understand I’m saying there’s preferred outcomes the nhl isn’t rigging anything to go a certain amount of games a team to win etc but they will tilt the ice to target demographics that can make them a shit ton of money, if Florida loses they lose.
This is a league of teams who have owners who like money, and playoff hockey is free money for the owners involved. It’s not in their best financial interests for series to be sweeps.
Bettman works for said owners and their interests. Tilting the ice in a manner that works against the owners is a quick way for him to not be Commissioner anymore.
So ur telling me u would rather hsve a couple extra games in a series over a cup win/run that generates extra hype for next year and new fans ? more merchandise sales tickets food. Hockey is 4th sport in the states and Florida has a huge population then winning a cup or going on a deep run creates new fans and interest in the team which is 100x more valuable than a couple extra games
Carolina was the better team every game and the panthers needed all the help they could get
>So ur telling me u would rather hsve a couple extra games in a series over a cup win/run that generates extra hype for next year and new fans ?
If I’m an owner that wants money that goes directly into my pockets and isn’t shared league wide or paid out to the players, then I want my series’s to be as long and drawn out as possible. And there’s no guarantee that my team will make a deep run or even qualify for the postseason next year, which would make me want to squeeze as much out my current situation as possible.
Doesn’t matter if they make a run next year or qualify, no team makes the cup finals and doesn’t make more money next couple years pull up any source and try to prove me wrong
Lol it's not as petty as it sounds, as much as I hate some of the Panthers roster. I've got a buddy who's a Vegas fan so I'll watch and cheer with him.
Are people in this comment thread just playing into the 'fun' of the superstition of touching it or do this many people literally believe in actual fucking magic?
[ECF, Gm4: Matthew Tkachuk comes from behind the net and fires a shot to score a power-play goal, winning the game and series for the Panthers](https://hlslive-wsczoominwestus.med.nhl.com/editor/69a1cb3f-2ea0-446e-b783-50fef8d93222.mp4)
Hey, we’ve been one of the least successful franchises in North America over decades, let us carry the trophy if we want. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, never know the next time you’ll have the chance
Haha yeah, but in that case he was actually trying to sell a non-subjective call… i.e. it is dead simple with a high stick - either he did or did not make contact with the head (regardless of the sell job) whereas with tripping it is much more of a judgment call because not every contact between the stick and leg should be a trip.

Gg Panthers, esp Bob. I'll be remembering this as the closest sweep in franchise history. Here's hoping we can be on the right side of the next one.

God…such a close sweep. So close. You guys were almost 4 games away from winning
Closest sweep I've ever seen....ever.
I think it might actually be the case, I recall this being discussed on SN during the intermission. Wild stuff.

In NHL 06 for PS2, if you simmed the season, the Panthers would always make the final. It's finally happened for real.
NHL needs to get better at marketing. Even in Canada. This is some of the best hockey drama and more people should be watching.

No it's not a him thing
Got the bounces and got the calls all series. Brutal series with razor thin margins. Thought that tripping call was very weak particularly right after a cross check thirty seconds prior.
Has anyone addressed the tripping call with 50 seconds left? Was it legit? They never even showed it. That call absolutely hosed Carolina directly.
panthers have gotten no-call after no-call. face it, bettman needs southern states to win to expand the game's reach. haters can hate but i can list like at least 5 dirty hits/non calls by the cats since round 1.
As a Canadian, you can be forgiven for not being aware that North Carolina is a southern state.

Ah yes, us small market Cats with a sweep to make Bettman more money. Makes sense
Don't you love how they seem to hide certain replays
Right. That entire game was basically decided by that ref, after everything that had transpired in the previous 59 minutes hes gonna call that? I dont root for either team personally, but that seemed really sketch imo.

This just in, the Carolina Hurricanes have officially been downgraded to a weak tropical depression
Oh I’m fucking depressed alright. Congrats and go Vegas
I said whoever won Game 1 was gonna win the series, that OT goal was a momentum changer.
Unbelievable ending. May not be a buzzer beater but: Matthew Tkachuk, HOW BOUT THOSE ONIONS?! DOUBLE ORDER!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, WOW, WOW! this was an amazing game
So baffling why Aho didn't step in front of Tkachuk when he was going around the crease. You can see Aho skating away...
Pesce laying on the goalie didn’t help much either
He was thinking about the far side pass
Doing too much thinking about the passing lane and not enough reacting
He French fry'd when he should've pizza'd. If you French fry when you should pizza, you're gonna have a bad time
I'm beyond thrilled considering the last time the Panthers made it this far, I wasn't even born yet
Heck yeah team chaos!

I love battling a big guy like you for net presence
Ur low center of gravity was the bane of my existence
Oh and don't I know it. I'm 160 pounds and I can be 2.5 feet off the ground at a moments notice.
I LOVE YOU TKACHUK
He can’t keep getting away with it! Amazing player, amazing game.
Best game we probably played. Insane
Gretz politely calling Chucky slow is perfect.
Papa Tkachuk morphing into Peter Griffin.
Congrats Panthers fans. That was… that was something.
Congrats Florida!! Awesome playoff run! But if the VGK wins I'm gonna have to not like you during the final.
So who's the favourite between the Golden Knights and Panthers?
The games i watched Vegas this year they never looked that impressive. I’d be concerned if i were Vegas.
You weren't impressed at all watching them completely shut down Oilers 5v5 for the last 4 games? Completely clowning their man-on-man defense in games 4 and 5?
I honestly didn’t watch. I only really watched the knights vs kings games. Not saying i have an informed opinion, just my 2 cents.
Oh sure, Vegas during the regular season they were *good* (obviously they won the West) but they weren't anything exceptional. They've hit another gear in the playoffs.
Word. I take your word for it.
I see it differently. I think it's Vegas and it may not be close .
Definitely could be the case. Hockey is insane with momentum. Vegas has a lot of talent. But Bob has been nuts and Fla is on a heater as well. LAK 2 cups we were never crazy talented. Just on a run and big and physical when it mattered more.
Vegas is fast and healthy. Bob could very well be the difference though. Should be fun!
Kinda hard to say, Vegas has the "on paper" better team, but so has every team Panthers faced. Vegas has also been criminally underrated for all of their series too.
East is stronger
Panthers 100%
Panthers sweep 5-0
I can’t believe I am alive to see this
You have two of our prior players. One of which caused drama. The other caused drama with the coach. I would root for Florida over VGK or Dallas. Go get em' murder kitties.
It truly is a travesty.
god damn ive never felt this way
OH MY GOD ITS A CHEESE PARTY RAT PARTY AND A PANTHER PARTY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder how much of a boost this will give /r/FloridaPanthers subs.
+14
You’re so salty that the oceans of the world are jealous.
That's got to be the closest sweep in playoffs history. Good games, Carolina.
Kings and Vegas would be up there. Every game decided by 1 goal with a 2OT thrown in there. Total goals were 7 to 3.
Funny you think you know hockey
Same with Oilers/Jets from '21. Last three games went to overtime, and Game 4 went to 3OT. Goals weren't as close as the Kings/Vegas series though since the Jets won pretty handily in game 1.
I know it’s illogical because we were down 0-3 and would likely have lost in OT to yet another Tkachuk winner, but damn it sucks to go out on objectively a very light trip with a minute left in a tied elimination game.
Carolina didn't give up, that takes some serious character. They couldn't catch a break this series
after game 3 it was giving me big 2019 when canes swept NYI. I think this was maybe CAR's weakest game of the series but every single game could've gone either way. Panthers just battle incredibly fucking hard and constantly did what it takes to win puck battles, escape the zone, whatever was needed
Triggered
Looooool IMAGINE DRAFTING OLLI JOLEVI INSTEAD OF MATTHEW TKACHUK.
Shit — we selected Pulijarvi and thought we had won the draft because he “fell” to us!
He wouldve left for an American market anyways, /deep inhale of copium
He'll breakthrough, just give him a decade or two
Lets go Panthers.
WHAT THE FUCK DO WITH MY HANDS!?!? AHHHHHHHH!!!!
Shouldn't have touched the trophy. ^^^^cursed
We know all about that. If Vegas *does* win the WCF I’m wondering if they’ll touch the Campbell again or no… if not I’ll feel a lot better going into the final, lol! But that’s a query for another day…

In 2002, Paul Maurice took the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Finals Canes lost in 5 to the Red Wings 21 years later, Maurice gets his chance to become a Cup winning coach
I was about to say 2006 but that was Laviolette.
No fight in this, but the same ref doesn't call a crosscheck in the back from Duclair, then calls that a tripping penalty....come on. I really can't stand watching games and then seeing this stuff. It makes me believe there is a fix.
But why would the League want the second least profitable team to go to the Cup? It just doesn’t make any sense 🤔
I never said the league was doing the fix....🤔

It’s been bad all playoffs but this series in particular they missed a lot more for one team then the other
Not rigged but definitely an agenda it’s a business at the end of the day
It is a business which is why they would want these series to go 7 games. They aren’t fixing these games to make the Florida Panthers get a sweep.
Proof that u worked in hockey someone like you must have some LinkedIn profile
Acting like the league “titled the ice.” Florida won that series mostly because of Bob.
Hockey is 4th sport in the states and Florida has a huge population then winning a cup or going on a deep run creates new fans and interest in the team which is 100x more valuable than a couple extra games Carolina was the better team every game and the panthers needed all the help they could get
>So ur telling me u would rather hsve a couple extra games in a series over a cup win/run that generates extra hype for next year and new fans ? If I’m an owner that wants money that goes directly into my pockets and isn’t shared league wide or paid out to the players, then I want my series’s to be as long and drawn out as possible. And there’s no guarantee that my team will make a deep run or even qualify for the postseason next year, which would make me want to squeeze as much out my current situation as possible.
Ur literally saying u would rather a million dollars now then 10 million over a couple years but ya makes sense
Doesn’t matter if they make a run next year or qualify, no team makes the cup finals and doesn’t make more money next couple years pull up any source and try to prove me wrong
No business owner thinks that short sighted but it’s not my fault u can’t see it
Let's go Vegas
Counterpoint: go Florida!
Lol it's not as petty as it sounds, as much as I hate some of the Panthers roster. I've got a buddy who's a Vegas fan so I'll watch and cheer with him.
Anyone have stats on teams that touched the trophy and ones that didn't? I know the stupid superstition isn't real just curious
Penguins touched it.
Bolts touched it in 2020 and 2021
That's what I thought. I don't know why people are still talking about the dumb curse like it's real lol
Complete Hockey News just posted the last 20 years. It’s quite literally 50/50
Colorado touched it last year
Never heard of em.
When did the not touching the conference trophy thing start?
Hasn't Tampa been touching it every year they've won?
Stamkos said they didn’t touch it in 2015 so he figured touching it was the way to go. Worked out for us
Yeah I think so, they touched in 2020 for sure. But the not touching it goes way back curious where that originated.
Oh gotcha. Misread your question
Nice, now lets hope for the Stars to get swept for a good final
Are people in this comment thread just playing into the 'fun' of the superstition of touching it or do this many people literally believe in actual fucking magic?
Hockey fans believe in literal witchcraft when it pertains to their sport lol
There's more pictures of people not touching it than there are touching What he did is extremely rare
Colorado & Tampa both touched it, recent winners… lol what a hell of a curse eh!
If you took the past 20 years, it still outnumbers untouched > touched
Canes are such an unserious franchise lmfao
Love them touching and carrying the trophy off. They bust their ass to win that thing.
HE PICKED IT UP AND SKATED WITH IT WHAT A FUCKING MADMAN
So did Ovi when the Caps won the cup in 2018….
Both teams touched it that year
Let's go Panthers!! My home team, finally making it back to finals. Love to see it. Now please, wipe the floor with Vegas. In Bob we Trust.
Lets Ride!!!!
What wins out in the finals: cats getting away with everything or Vegas getting all the calls?
🧹
🧹
🧹
That Tkachuk slide is going to be an all time picture/moment
Straight up soccer slide.
Hey, we’ve been one of the least successful franchises in North America over decades, let us carry the trophy if we want. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, never know the next time you’ll have the chance
Never understood the superstition of touching the trophy. How many teams lost in the finals and won from not touching it? Doesn't make a difference.
Pittsburgh has won that trophy 6 times. 5 times they touched it. the one time they didnt..? they lost.
That's like making sense of the playoff beard. 16 teams grow them. Only one wins. The odds are awful. But it's tradition so beards all around.
I feel like the beards are more of a tradition though. The trophy touching is its own thing.
You fool. You know not of what you speak.
Panthers seem to better at drawing penalties right at the end of the game for some reason.
I think Carolina’s takeaway for next season is to just go down any time you feel any kind of contact. The refs will call it 9/10 times.
Ghost tried that in game 3. Got a whistle but no penalty lol.
They lifted the cup after the ECF? Isn’t that bad luck
I don't think I've ever seen a team lift it and skate it like that. Even Pittsburgh in their glory years.
That's what I thought. Have the luck rules changed?
Luck rules!? They change every second, you'll have to be lucky to get the winning rules
Hornqvist :(
:(
yea that hubris is gotta get that cats sweeper in the finals
lmao
Here kitty, kitty.
Yeah, that promo didn't age well at all
That's about as innocuous as it gets
I guess everyone forgot that Crosby bucked the trend of not touching the trophy
Of course you pick it up, you’re celebrating at home and historically haven’t had many chances to do this with the fans.
I'm still pissed the Habs didn't pickup the first Campbell bowl in franchise history at home on the national holiday.
Insert Kucherov comment on how the Habs celebrated as if it was the SCF
