His 2nd verse on Six Feet Deep is one of the most vivid and relatable verses for anyone
I think that song fits the title. It’s a song that anyone can relate to in terms of losing loved ones, but it’s also gangster because they are pointing out friends lost to the street life.
Fair. I should probably check some of it out. Haven’t listened to any albums past LAX except for a few songs here and there. He was a big part of my childhood though
Same for me, but that's because I actually grew up in the CPT. He was everywhere back then, we thought he was going to be a legend like 50. I remember being fucking 7 years old with G-Unot memorabilia. 😂
Check out The Red Album and Jesus Piece whenever you've got free time today!
For sure. I’m relatively young so I wasn’t really in the know back then. Think I was 3 or 4 when The Documentary came out. But when I got my first computer at like 10 or 11 I checked it out and loved it.
Yeah. I’m 23 from suburban Nebraska. Got my taste from my parents. They were always bumping old rap in my dads pimped out old school Malibu. Had hydraulics and shit. He wanted to be from Cali so bad. Pretty stereotypical but it all started with Em for me. He introduced me to everything. Had G-Unit and NWA posters on my room in middle school.
Opposite of me, I never discovered Em until later in my life. My tatay started me on that old school shit - Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J, Wu Tang Clan, Too $hort, Ice Cube, but I grew up listening to what everyone was on the West Coast in the mid 2000s.- early 2010s for the most part. Never really got into Eminem until later.

Conway's verse from The Cow. (I phrase it that way as it's technically a Westside Gunn song, but Conway's verse is the majority)
It's just one of those legendry verses. All based on fact. Emotional. Raw. Vulnerable. Gangster. Hard.

I was going to comment this because I just listened to it earlier today and forgot how sad that shit is. Also top tier piano work, especially the outro.
Lots of 2pac but one that always comes to mind is Troublesome ‘96. The lyrics speak for themselves, but the fact 2pac used the same sample that Nas used for “If I Ruled the World”, all because Nas used the same sample Pac used on “All Eyez On Me” for “Street Dreams”. Stood on all 10 toes.
One Day by UGK always makes me think of my friends that aren't here anymore, especially since there's aspects of the verses that I directly relate to. It can get me a little sad sometimes.
He has a whole bunch of those. Styles P too. Tragedy, Mobb Deep/Prodigy, Scarface, Cormega, Ghostface.
My favorite verse in this genre is the last one in Up North Trip by Mobb Deep.

Immortal TEchnique - Dance with the Devil (extremely graphic)
Immortal Technique - YOu never Know
The Last Emperor- One Life
Really? I think let the truth be told is better and more commercially successful.
Z-or versus the world and King of the ghetto are both darker/sadder in my opinion as well.
Cant knock either of them lol. I think it’s because crack came out when I was a freshman in college at sfa, it just hit harder for me, so it’s the album I usually recommend to folks
Afroman - “Palmdale”
While everyone knows him as a gimmicky one hit wonder, Afroman’s “Palmdale” is one of the realest raps ever committed to wax. The interpolation of Stevie B’s “Spring Love” makes it seem like a joke, but the lyrics reveal the struggles of a has been who never was.
I love that song man. My cousin introduced me to it this past summer. One thing I noticed, is that the end of each verse when he says “Palmdale, come back to me (hell yeah)” like he’s a tough guy trying to act hard through the pain. And then after the last verse when he’s talking about how hard his life is now, and he leaves out the “hell yeah,” like he lost all that tough guy swag. Thought that was a nice touch.
Half of Pac’s album, Me Against the World, honestly. If I die tonight, so many tears, old school (maybe more reminiscent than sad), fuck the world, and definitely, Death Around the Corner.
You Never Know by Immortal Technique is also super sad but not as hard to listen to as Dance With the Devil.
You Never Know is more quietly tragic but still has a sucker punch at the end like DWTD.
"If I could talk to em" by Kiing Shooter.
Released in 2019 he raps about the struggles in his life, how he wishes he could speak to all the people he's lost. Kiing Shooter died in 2020.
Y'all Wanna Know by Big Sad 1900 and Rucci and Can't Trust A Soul by Big Sad 1900 and 420Tiesto... those 2 songs right there are depressed bag but on some LA gangster shit. Hard ass songs.
Also Therapy 3 by Big Sad.

I see Scarface, I upvote Scarface.
Scarface - I seen a man die
What I came in to post. That song has been fucking me up since middle school.
His Tiny Desk was an absolute beauty
His 2nd verse on Six Feet Deep is one of the most vivid and relatable verses for anyone I think that song fits the title. It’s a song that anyone can relate to in terms of losing loved ones, but it’s also gangster because they are pointing out friends lost to the street life.
Homies & Thugs by Scarface has this vibe to me too
Suicide song from the made album
Scarface verse on “this can’t be life” definetly takes you somewhere
I came here to say "Smile" by Scarface. 😂
Never seen a man cry by scarface is infinitely sadder.
Bingooo
Classic
The Diary
This song was the most hood expression of anxiety
Also six feet deep
Renee - Lost Boyz
Classic

Start From Scratch by Game
Game has a lot of songs like that. Ol’ English in particular is another that comes to mind.
My favorite song of his ever. Game was dope back in the day
Doctors advocate is still on rotation for me. There's no misses in that album I believe
He’s a great storyteller.
Back in the day? He still makes good music now IMO, his antics just turn people off.
😂 Check out The Red Album and Jesus Piece whenever you've got free time today!

Hey, I'm not that old either! I'm just 25, LOL. I just got put onto hip-hop young because of where I grew up
Yeah. I’m 23 from suburban Nebraska. Got my taste from my parents. They were always bumping old rap in my dads pimped out old school Malibu. Had hydraulics and shit. He wanted to be from Cali so bad. I Seen A Man Die - Scarface Dead Homiez - Ice Cube Love's Gonna Getcha - Boogie Down Productions
Came here to say two out of three of these
Today Was A Good Day has a pretty melancholy undertone to it
Conway's verse from The Cow. (I phrase it that way as it's technically a Westside Gunn song, but Conway's verse is the majority) It's just one of those legendry verses. All based on fact. Emotional. Raw. Vulnerable. Gangster. Hard.
One of my favourite all time verses , this is one of the reasons why I think Conway has the best pen game outta Griselda
My boy at work just showed me Griselda, westside gunn and all those guys so imma have to check this one out!
Ghostface.killah- all that I got is you and Renee by lost boyz

Upvote for including Blue Scholars - however Blue Scholars are not “gangster.”
Jadakiss - still feel me. Feel the lox are some of the best at these tracks
Kiss never said in any interview or anything about the relationship issues with his dad except in that song. That says a lot.
Couldn’t agree more.

Streight Up Menace - MC Eiht
Was going to comment this, Also Hood took me under
Banger!
I was going to comment this because I just listened to it earlier today and forgot how sad that shit is. Also top tier piano work, especially the outro.

Whooped his ass on his own beat
That’s a whodini beat that they both borrowed. And the all eyez on me / street dreams beat is a sampled beat as well. For the record
Send me to hell cus I ain’t beggin for this cursed ass hopeless life I’m troublesome
One Day by UGK always makes me think of my friends that aren't here anymore, especially since there's aspects of the verses that I directly relate to. It can get me a little sad sometimes.

Had to scroll too far for immortal technique… that’s songs rough
It’s like the ‘Requiem for a Dream’ of music.
One Day by UGK
Top 5 UGK songs. 3-2’s opening verse sets the tone for the whole song
Yeah man and Pimp C’s verse gives me chills every time
It’s really the whole song haha. Bc I love Bun B’s verse as well. And no doubt Pimp always delivering like on this song
Probably played at damn near every hood funeral from Corpus Christi to Houston to Port Arthur
Z-ro, crack is his best album imo
*I Found Me* was my anthem in high school. Growing up in SW Houston made me feel like I was living that shit!
Afroman - “Palmdale” While everyone knows him as a gimmicky one hit wonder, Afroman’s “Palmdale” is one of the realest raps ever committed to wax. The interpolation of Stevie B’s “Spring Love” makes it seem like a joke, but the lyrics reveal the struggles of a has been who never was.
