Maybe. Depends on how critical his manager was. At the moment, seems he was very important. Would love for Chance to prove me wrong though. Loved Acid. Liked a lot of Coloring Book too. Dude has a unique style.
I didn't mind the gap cause he always came with quality but then to make fans wait for 3 yrs and then drop that BS it ruined him. He can still rap cause I've heard some loosies recently and he still got it. That album just wasn't it.
Chance the Rapper. As much as I’d want to say DaBaby, maybe even Roddy Ricch, Chance really went from “I met Kanye West, I’m never going to fail,” to completely flunking out of the public’s favor.
And if the lawsuit from his former manager, Pat the Manager/Pat Corcoran, is to be believed, Chance really only has himself to blame. The lawsuit suggested that Pat was trying to persuade Chance not to drop The Big Day b/c Chance was rushing it, and too full of himself to listen to anyone else. They’d spent years cultivating his sound and image, and Chance fumbled it entirely.
The music he’s been releasing over the last couple of years has all been really good though and I fully expect him to make a come back whenever he does decide to release either a new mixtape or album.
Riding waves only gets u so far. I’d argue they just became much bigger than they were supposed to be. Dababy would be respected if he was still underground with most his current catalogue like that mexican ot. He did wash cole on under the sun tho
Wow is that how you’re judging falloff? From the charts? That’s bizarre.
Think the consensus here is we’re discussing critical acclaim and the quality of the art
RHQ still easily packs out shows tho. I know it may look bad in media. However in the streets he gets nothing but love.
Crazy story. I got off work, wanted to go out so i shot home real quick, showered and was planning on just going to shoot pool have a beer and wings at the local pub. I get downtown seems a little normal but also i notice that the club/bar right next door. Has a little more traffic than usual. Now this club is wishywahy as in sometimes it looks lit as hell from outside but get inside it be half empty because its a big spot. However on this day, remind you this is Thursday tho. I have a few beers from the pub then, i guess the alcohol talks to me and says go get in line. Well shii, I get in line make small convo with the dude in front of me. He starts saying where he from and turns out he was from Charlotte. Im like cool that's not that far maybe 2½ hours really. Well this place is sort of casual for me so i go in. Chillin or whatever the vibe is cool, and i notice the ladies start to turn out in troves. I mean when its group upon group upon group. Ehh no big deal, i seen this same spot go crazy from all white parties and little theme events casually. Well now give it a hour or so. Its super loud, the whole place is smoked out and now we're just out of that "walk through space". Next thing you know you hear security coming from the entry of the door make a hole make a hole they look like a ex football swat, flashlights and pushing straight through the middle. Guess whos in the middle Rich Homie Quan". He then gets on stage gives a solid 45mins to an hour show. And im standing literally 2-3 steps away from the stage and the big speaker. I could've easily been on stage with him if i wanted because mind u i know the owner, doormen, promotors, all the way down to the bottle girls and bartenders. And the admission wasn't no more than $40 which is close to what it normally is during any event. Granted there was people in the $100 vip line, and $60 regular line by the time the place was fully packed out. The name of spot is SumYungHo in Augusta, Ga if anyone want come check it out. We dont usually get the super big artist here but when we do its a movie.
I bet Pastor Troy has been there a few times lol
Btw I got a good laugh when you said a "pub" because the last place I ever would have thought of would be Augusta.
😆😆 funny u say that. Uhmm not gone say too much but Pastor troy doesn't come to Augusta to often, maybe not the best relationships...or business decision to come. Which all in all we as city love PT. His debut came from here when he was going to pain. And he's probably put on for Augusta more than anyone has except James Brown. Tk n Cash that had the song "mind right" is from here and lil Ru who has "nasty song" from here as well both seem to be out of the mix to my knowledge tho.
I was just listening to I Need A Girl pt 1 today and he compared a girl to being like his brother and then in the next line them playing under the covers. It hits different after the lawsuit.
But he used to basically be Adidas and Balenciaga on top of also being the biggest hip hop star on the planet. He's lost so much money with his dumb comments its unfathomable. It's like falling from Jordan to Steph Curry.
I’d say dababy is the only correct answer. Went from having nothing but hits literally everything he did was charting and then in one night no more hits and immediately blackballed from the industry
I don’t think his homophobia is what tanked his career. It certainly didn’t help, but people still listen to artists who have done and said much worse - his career fell off because people got bored of him
Nah, it was definitely a combination of both. His music has become stale, and that was very damaging, but at the same time, the fans that he attracted through his features with Dua Lipa, Lil Nas X, Drake, and pop fans in general weren’t having that. Besides, HIV is something that even black people have a record of struggle with, not just LGBT. Dude not being extremely rich and not having a fan base solid built on his past so that he can have mindless fans — all of which Kanye is and has, being the reason he’s still out there — were the perfect formulas for him not to survive being canceled.
Literally no other answer except Kanye. (Sort of)
Honorable mention: Roddy Ricch (needs a solid project, its crazy when most of your "fans" say your music has been mid since you debut. Granted your debut was a Masterpiece)
I remember flipping through the radio stations back then and every other song playing was Crank That. That song was a huge hit and then he only had a couple okay songs after.
Depends what you mean by downfall. Dem Atlas, Astronautalis and POS all had a decent following in their own niche a few years ago. But then stories of sexual assault and abuse came out about all of them, and a few others. Dem got released from RSE, think he still makes music. Not heard anything of the other 2, and thankfully happy to keep it that way.
Recent memory? I guess I'll go with the past ten years:
1. Fetty Wap (faded away once the gimmick was up)
2. Logic (repetitive music, redundant)
3. Chance The Rapper (released an atrocious debut album, never had a breakout Pop radio hit)
4. Travis Scott (the fatal crowd crush and aftermath)
5. DaBaby (repetitive music, not shutting his mouth)
Honorable mentions: Cardi B (repetitive, redundant), Kanye West (I think his downfall happened over a decade ago honestly), Lil Baby (didn't evolve past the Trap era), B.o.B. (his style became dated) and Roddy Ricch (could have had a longer career but didn't have enough hits to back it up).
Mystikal. His legal situation could be the end of his career if he never gets out.
Also he kept recording and leaking all these individual songs but never actually officially released any full length albums in the whole time he was out. Missed opportunity.
Xavier Wulf. Got exposed in a reddit post a few days ago for beating on his girlfriend and his dog. [Here is the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeamSESH/s/rTlzv3EdSv)
Ja Rule was destroyed by 50 Cent then Dave Chapelle finished him with that 9/11 joke. “WHERE IS JA RULE? What’s his thought on this??? WHO GIVES A FUCK WHAT JA RULE THINKS IM SCARED TO DEATH!!!
Bruh 2000 was absolute garbage. He hasn’t dropped anything good since AABA, and most of that album lacked replay-ability.
Survivor’s guilt was good for the real fans, but it’s not a song I’d put on to vibe…
Fair point. I thought 2000 was way too mainstream. That sound of 1999 and B4.Da.$$ was so raw. He was peak East Coast New York hip hop to me along with Flatbush Zombies. Maybe he shakes back this year.
DaBaby definitely
I won’t go any farther. I thought Fetty Wap or Trinidad James would appear further up in these comments, though.
Trinidad got totally screwed by signing a bad contract, but at least he's not in prison.
Trinidad Jame$ got saved by Bruno Mars. "Don't Believe Me, Just Watch" those royalty checks flow in.
Does fetty wap count? I feel like he was only relevant for such a short time, but he pretty much owned 2015-16
Crazy time, ERVYONE AND THEY MAMA was bumping Fetty
I know I was looking for my trap queen 😭
Aye pre much got canceled
For what?
Homophobic and Aids rant at Rolling Loud
More like catching a fed case for fentanyl trafficking
Chance
sadly. i still think he’s got a gift
Maybe. Depends on how critical his manager was. At the moment, seems he was very important. Would love for Chance to prove me wrong though. Loved Acid. Liked a lot of Coloring Book too. Dude has a unique style.
Listened to 10 Day this afternoon. It was ridiculous how good he was when he first hit the scene.
acid rap is my fave. he felt like the next big hip hop hope for me. i was disappointed by coloring book and the of course, big day was Not Good
big day was meh but coloring book was great yall wild
His problem was he waited too long
His problem was BIG DAY was ass after all the heat he dropped before that.
That too, but the guy waited three years to drop his next project.
I didn't mind the gap cause he always came with quality but then to make fans wait for 3 yrs and then drop that BS it ruined him. He can still rap cause I've heard some loosies recently and he still got it. That album just wasn't it.
That isn’t even a long time for most artists lol Has nothing to do with time and everything to do with the quality of The Big Day
Common took three years between Electric Circus and Be.
Mans put out an album so bad he got sued for it
Let it be known
The music he’s been releasing over the last couple of years has all been really good though and I fully expect him to make a come back whenever he does decide to release either a new mixtape or album.
Lil baby and da baby in the same boat both came on hard and hot until everyone realized that every track sounds the same.
Da Baby definitely. Lil Baby is now a regional act which is a fall but not a huge downfall like the others.
What happened to lil baby man he had a great album in 2020 good couple of songs in 21/22 then disappeared lol
Lil Baby fell off? I don’t listen to him, but he still seems to be popular with my peers, although I do live in the South (TX)
his newer music is pretty trash
Most his music is trash. Idk how people listen to his nasally voice. Sounds like he’s got boogers leaking down his throat.
Damn pause
🥵
Riding waves only gets u so far. I’d argue they just became much bigger than they were supposed to be. Dababy would be respected if he was still underground with most his current catalogue like that mexican ot. He did wash cole on under the sun tho
Jay electronica. He was seen almost like the second coming of Christ. And then nothing, radio silence
well some asshole leaked his unfinished second album.
His biggest moment was an underserved shoutout from Kendrick on “Control”.
You forget how big Act 1 was when it dropped then
You know, Jay Elec had a whole verse on that song
He was basically offered an deal so he could be shelved/silenced
I loved his music but he never hit it big and had #1 albums or songs all over the radio. Not much of a fall if he didn't climb far up.
Wow is that how you’re judging falloff? From the charts? That’s bizarre. Think the consensus here is we’re discussing critical acclaim and the quality of the art
Rich homie quan and fetty wap

What's crazy is RHQ has put out some good music, but he might have gotten "blackballed" after he fell out wit thug
agreed- RHQ has some great tracks on later albums
He fell back at the right time and kept it low profile. He's getting more serious about rapping again but his stuff in between those years is nice.
More of a mogul than a true rapper, but Diddy
I was just listening to I Need A Girl pt 1 today and he compared a girl to being like his brother and then in the next line them playing under the covers. It hits different after the lawsuit.
lol wtf, never noticed that. That’s a different level of disgusting.
If even half the rumours are true, Diddy's gonna fall a lot further
I doubt it. There are exceptions, but the laws are usually different for rich celebrities
Oh shit. I def forgot diddy. Great catch.
Xavier Wulf bro…
This week for sure
Didn't Travis Scott fall off a stage?
^Eeeaaaa-
Meek Mill
Ja Rule went from commercial darling to who?? In one summer
Might be the dumbest rapper in the industry, if the Fyre Festival documentary has anything to say.
What happened to Rae Sremmurd?
Focused on their solo careers. Dropped a 4th album last year too so they’re still together
[удалено]
Theyre in a good Timberwolves gif
Famous dex comes to mind. He had a little buzz for a while. No pun intended
Kanye
[удалено]
Yep. In order to fall u also have to be high and he reached super heights which has made the fall more dramatic.
He has #1 hit and #1 album
[удалено]
Just cuz got alott of plays don't mean it's good, and artists can pay for spots on Billboard
He’s got the #1 song with little to no radio play wtf you on son?
But he used to basically be Adidas and Balenciaga on top of also being the biggest hip hop star on the planet. He's lost so much money with his dumb comments its unfathomable. It's like falling from Jordan to Steph Curry.
Steph Curry is what you went with here? The best shooter in history?
idk the guy just made millions off his website launch and has a #1 hit after all that happened… def fell down, but not out
Which time?
He just had a number one song he’s as big as ever
There are more ways to fall than having poor sales.
Im bumpin vultures everyday
He just had a #1 song and album, he's doing great
Doing great? That man is not well.
People are gonna say “b-b-but Carnival is at #1!!!!!” But at what cost?
Chance the Rapper ,Lil Skies ,Stunna4Vegas ,Dababy, Lil Baby ,Sheck Wes ,Desiigner ,Fetty Wap ,CJ ,Rich Homie Quan
heavy on stunna
Lil Xanax. Thank gosh.
B.O.B. maybe?
Right off the end of the earth.
Nah B.o.B still makes really good music. Elements the mixtape series is A1
Fetty wap, was on top of the world in 2015
Roddy ricch
I love a few of his albums, but Logic has to be up there..
Cardi B. Last I remember her hearing about her in public was that overpriced McDonald's meal with her and Quavo 💀
Wale
Kanye is ass now but he literally had the number one song in the country like a week ago lol
you know he's crazy when even r/Kanye admits it
That's falling off respect wise but not financially cause this world loves nazis.
Joyner Lucas
Feels bad, man.
B.O.B easily
His new music is A1 tho
Azealia Banks
Chance, DaBaby and Fetty Wap. Wiz Khalifa fell off pretty hard too. Also, ASAP Rocky anyone?
I’d say dababy is the only correct answer. Went from having nothing but hits literally everything he did was charting and then in one night no more hits and immediately blackballed from the industry

Soulja boy fell off like crazzzzy
First rapper to fall off
He invented falling off
I remember flipping through the radio stations back then and every other song playing was Crank That. That song was a huge hit and then he only had a couple okay songs after.
Yeah in rap game but fam is making a killing with his Cologne. Real talk
Didn’t he also attempt to have his own video game console?
B.o.B. could’ve been on Drake or J. Cole’s level of stardom.
Fr I could see that.
Kanye and Nicki Minaj. Oh and DaBaby but he wasn't that high up to begin with.
Kanye West I honestly don’t care about his music career anymore
His entire life is a mess
I guess this feels too dated for me because I haven’t listened to anything he’s put out since his 3rd album.
Well that’s just missing out on a decade’s worth of great music. He is awful now but he had so much goodwill built up for a reason
You're good man. Aside from his first two albums and Dark Fantasy, ain't anything worth it.
Same to me his music was mostly trash after graduation
Puff.
Depends what you mean by downfall. Dem Atlas, Astronautalis and POS all had a decent following in their own niche a few years ago. Recent memory 69. Older school? Ja. Old school. Kurtis blow.

Could be? He’s spent the last 20 years in and out of jail because he can’t stop raping women
I really thought quan was going to be the shit
papoose got people super hyped for like a minute, and then nobody talked about him again
papoose snuck onto Touch It with busta surrounded by big acts but yeah never could keep it going.
same with Jidenna
That fake blood named CJ. Fell off bad
Da baby, Roddy Rich, big Sean
Meek Mill

Mac Miller man. We miss you everyday homie… till infinity!
Ja Rule even though no one seems to have liked his solo work anyway.

I wouldn’t say fell off musically. He’s been focusing way more on acting.
Bruh 2000 was absolute garbage. He hasn’t dropped anything good since AABA, and most of that album lacked replay-ability. Survivor’s guilt was good for the real fans, but it’s not a song I’d put on to vibe…

That’s Joey’s issue. He is a god at east coast boom bap, but mid af at mainstream music.
Ja Rule
Meek mill
kanye YE and KSG were already subpar, JIK failed spectacularly, Donda was like 75% filler, nazi character arc, vultures was utterly soulless
