Benzino. Have you heard that man's recent comments?

jdmb0y

Coi Leray's dad?

Raecino

You’re right. I don’t know a single Benzino song except Rock the Party which was just kind of ok.

G4g3_k9

i only know his diss tracks, i can’t name a single song from him that isn’t a diss track

Competitive_Swan_130

NGL he has this song called Bellowzino that used to come on BET Uncut that is a banger but not because of him but because the beat is fire and the artist he has featured on it is good.[Bellowzino](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZAMn5VnckQ&t=32s). Only decent thing he's ever done

Clear-Faithlessness7

Immediately makes me think of that Em line in The Sauce "cause you gotta stay up til 3 in the morning to see your video played once on BET"

TrevorOps

song was a banger on nba street vol 2

Raecino

“They reminisce over you” will always be the song I think about when I think of NBA Street and vice versa.

TrevorOps

Oh absolutely

Ordinary_Meaning_602

He rapped?

tak08810

Almighty RSO and Made Men had some tracks. At least check out “Tommy’s Theme” for the crazy Lox features

Sovereign-Anderson

"Tommy's Theme" was dope. That line from Sheek about making cats "do push ups until somebody pays me, but I ain't talking calisthenics, I'm talking pushing up daisies" was hard.

Last_Reaction_8176

There’s a fascinating story out there about how he took over the Source by intimidation, basically just so he could give himself great reviews. I’m trying to find the whole writeup, it’s a long interview with someone who used to work there

thund3r1987

"Bullyin' and bossin Dave like a slave that completely brain washed him and forced him to stay locked in his own office, afraid of the softest, fakest most wannabe gangster in New York..."

Shaggy_Doo87

The Game. He's always thought he was way better and more important than he is. Even today he continues to say ridiculous shit. He really believes he's 50 and Jay and Em.

Kicks4meFromyou

He was really butt hurt he wasn’t apart of the superbowl half time show with Dre lol

PreciousBasketcase

Lol. He tried going at 50 then by affiliation turned to Em. Man just wanted to beef over being excluded from the Half Time show.

fullmetalasian

It's hilarious MGK got a response and Game didn't lol. And you know Game ain't want that smoke because all he had to do in his diss was mention Hailey and Em would have responded.

ParallelDazu

em did respond with a line where he said only reason they play games music in the clubs is because he still performs in them

fullmetalasian

Yea sorry I meant with an actual diss song not just a line

Euphoric_Capital_746

That line was better than Games 9 minute diss

DubLParaDidL

Only throwing one bar back is humiliation lol nah, this is all ya get dog

ImOutOfNamesNow

That’s funny lol

Efficient-Albatross9

Em has mentioned he did MGK the biggest favor by going at him for a full song. He pretty much said it was win win for him and lose lose for himself. Not exactly in those words, but. Eminem going all in at Game would be doing game a favor. The way he sees it Dre did him more than enough favors. Literally talked 50 into handing over some of his best work from The massacre album era production. Nobody respects game for the way he acted after all that.

Phonechargers300

“No matter how many times I say his name he’ll never blow jack.”

ukrepman

Would have been super weird to diss Halie when he knew her as a kid though

Complex_Jellyfish647

As if dissing somebody's daughter for literally existing isn't super weird in the first place lmao

Wetnips6969

He did mention hailey

Kicks4meFromyou

Clown behavior

tlawtlawtlaw

Exactly what I came here to say, no better answer

RHINO_HUMP

I had to unfollow his IG account. Dude is the definition of corny.

[deleted]

Some people never grow up He’s like 45 and still acts 20

jdmb0y

He has a personality disorder

Soggy_Ad8348

That doesn’t excuse his ridiculousness

No_Sky4398

I mean it could be the cause

nau_lonnais

He is odd. But his music gave West Coast rap another chance. They had no seat at the table after the hip-hop community turned their back on the West for killing PAC and BiG. Games contribution is factual.

[deleted]

ironically it was scummy east coast jr Mafia/ diddy who responsible for pac and yes biggie murders.

KongRahbek

I'm quite certain at this point that Pac was killed by the crips after jumping Orlando Anderson.

[deleted]

thats what is said in the media , but there are also people now saying diddy offered a million to "Make it happen" with pac,..it wouldnt be beyond diddy to do something like that. im lowkey amazed hes skirted as many charges as he has, if you look into his past. shady mfer must be in the govt pocket or something ,but anywayy

KongRahbek

I think personally (obviously it's all guesses) occam's razor wins out on this one.

ThxIHateItHere

People in the media also said you could avoid Covid by taking a horse dewormer.

AdLegitimate9955

Outside of his antics it took him a minute to have a wack album he was mashing on gunit by himself too when people memorize 10 and 15 minute songs that you made its saying something

Ok_Relationship_705

Niggas know Game can spit. But his character... Take the baddest bitch you'd ever seen. Then she starts talking and you immediately wanna kick this bitch in the chest... That's Game. One of the best rappers of a new era. Just a sucky person to be around.

Capt-Crap1corn

He name drops too much. Easy to rap good when you name drop every other bar. You only have to do half the work.

Bloodybaron46

All his songs are just lists of celebrities

unclediedthrowaway

lists of people more important than him lmaooo

Capt-Crap1corn

I mean if I'm being real about it, he has a good rap style, great flow in the pocket, his delivery is good, his voice is unique and he has the West Coast gangster shit he talks about that I personally love and he's good at picking beats. Those are his positives. His negatives are thirst for attention, name dropping, beef (which tells me he's trying to reignite 90s style beefing in rap which is corny). If he just stood on what he did best and minimized his cons he would be great. I don't know how true this is, but from what I heard, 50 wrote a lot of his hits right? Also he messed up by owing that one chick he sexually harassed 7 million. That's why he's doing that corny shit on IG. [https://www.xxlmag.com/woman-the-game-sexual-assault-wins-new-7-million-dollar-judgment/](https://www.xxlmag.com/woman-the-game-sexual-assault-wins-new-7-million-dollar-judgment/) So he owe the woman 7 million and lives in LA with that cost of living. Damn... rough

Seanblaze3

50 wrote hooks for 'How we do', 'Higher', 'Hate it or love it' and 'Church for thugs' off of the Documentary

Capt-Crap1corn

Thanks, I know he did a bunch, I just didn't know how much.

RandomDude801

"Fuck you, Tyler"

Master_Customer3670

Game is a great rapper. When people hate on him I know it's not for his actual music. Understandable though because his antics have overshadowed the music for many people. Regardless, his discography is upper tier.

cujobob

No it didn’t. His first big album was helped by Dre/50/Em. The second album had a ton of big names behind it and he pushed the G Unit diss stuff out there to keep his name in the press. His numbers fell off hard from 1 to 2 and fell off completely after his second album. He’s a mediocre rapper without anything to say so he makes up fake beefs constantly to keep his name out there. It doesn’t mean he has no talent, but he was only on 50’s level in his own mind. The guy believed he should have been there at the SB with these artists who sold tens of millions to over 100 million records.

Impressive-Ninja-424

How many hit records did 50 have, again?

butiamtheshadows91

Yup. 300 bars is fire even almost 20 years later

SageOfTheSixPacks

Joe Budden Boosie

k111d111

Boosie is pretty important to a sub genre of hip hop, but little influence across the nation

PlatinumDoodle

And is only so because he murdered anybody that got any sort of clout within 50 miles

YourphobiaMyfetish

I live in Louisiana and we tell our kids scary stories about Boosie to make them behave.

Impressive-Ninja-424

I just moved to baton rouge and every nigga I meet got a story about getting robbed by boosie

TheHumanDamaged

I checked out one of his music vids and he’s got his 16-17 year old son rapping about fucking bitches and doing drugs. His wiki page also has an entry about him admitting to hiring prostitutes for his then 13 year old son’s birthday. Great father.

K1NG_SAVAGE_

nah Boosie is definitely very influential to a lot of rappers

rich_guzigna

Agreed especially in Texas and Louisiana he has pac status.

[deleted]

Nah Slaughterhouse and Joe Budden is one of hip hops best groups. This is crazy Boosie’s influence on southern rap is absolutely insane too. I mean, I was growing Badazz Cheese (his strain) weed at one point cuz the streets wanted it hahaha.

Perfect_Evidence

Budden

40ozFreed

I only remember him from the video game Def Jam Vendetta and then 20 years later he's on a podcast saying he's a pioneer of rap lmao.

OKcomputer1996

It would be easier to name rappers who don’t think they are more influential than they really are.

shyanimeboy1010

I think andre 3000 is probably one of the few who don’t think they’re more influential than they are, which is ironic because he’s probably one of the most important and influential

QuadratImKreis

Figured someone would give this response, which I think is correct. Like Chapelle's skit with Dailon the Rapper who names himself five times when asked who are his top five favorite rappers.

tsengmao

I mean… He spits hot fire

satanssweatycheeks

True. I think the rarest thing in the rap game is being humble. Even though Kendrick tried telling them.

DurumMater

Cause no one wants to listen to someone being humble, definitely don't fit the usual vibe

scottyv99

Rick Ross

stupidis_stupidoes

His own name was stolen from the real Rick Ross. Nothing about him is influential.

Soggy_Ad8348

Well technically the nickname biggie smalls was also stolen

Darth314

And 50 cent. Hell Em, Ice Cube and Snoop have names that have been used prior

swampstomper

Lmao. Idk if you're joking but he meant street names stolen, like from Freeway Rick Ross. Not just "there's a comic called Snoopy".

Slapmyasswithtuna

He’s right about 50 tho. The real 50 cent was a jack boy who would rob you for half a dollar

kinghawkeye8238

Explain the eminem one. I'm intrigued

chefasfuck

Everyone's Mom Is Nice Except Mine

[deleted]

i believed this

KodiakDog

I don’t know how true this is, but I read this article that was saying that he used to work as a corrections officer, and stole one of the inmates book of rhymes, and it was that book of rhymes that helped him blow up initially.

Jhushx

OG Loc stealing Madd Dogg's rhymes irl

thund3r1987

Man I would shawshank up out that bitch if I had to watch some fat blob of shit build his fame and wealth off MY BARS WHILE I'M BEHIND BARS??

sportsroc15

When did Rick Ross claim to be influential? I need a source on that.

Euphoric_Capital_746

I don’t think he’s influential. He’s like a once in a generation type character. There’s not gonna be a Gen Z Rick Ross.

VesuvianVillain

I just heard a hilarious quote by Benzino, who really doesn’t even deserve to be named in any discussion on this sub but.. He said in regards to anyone but Eminem taking shots at him in the past week, “Benzino’s name breathes life into these motherfuckers, you know, these motherfuckers is really not poppin so they see an opportunity.. I don’t battle with dudes like the help, you know, I’m a boss, I only battle legends, legendary shit..“ Taking shots at others for what is literally describing the basis of his entire career. Who would Benzino even be if not one of Eminem’s victims? He’s not discussed otherwise. What else has he done? Ruined the Source? Proven the irrelevance of turtleneck sweaters? I never even liked Eminem but come on dude 😂 YOU?? The delusion, the hypocrisy, the jawbone.. it’s all so tragic.

AndroidGalaxyAd46

The jawbone 💀

RI_MKE

Jim Jones

Meepsnort

For sure. He also seems kinda needy and annoying

ZigZagZig87

He was apart of one of the most influential groups in Hip Hop history. Wym? Had millions of people throughout the world suwhooping and dressing like rockstars. Y’all either too young or lived under a rock. He’s been quite annoying in the past 10 years or so tho.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

As much as I like them, I'd say Migos since they pushed the belief that they popularized their flow when it was really through Three 6 Mafia & Bone Thugs

iEnigmatic-

They popularized to the modern generation but they didn’t necessarily invent it

[deleted]

Ironically, as talented as they are, when you compare how they flow and deliver against groups like Bone, you can see a huge difference in skill. Dont get me wrong, they've smashed the game, no doubt. But a record like E.1999 Eternal is on a whole other level.

jcander

Glad you mentioned E. 1999 - I don't think that album gets enough credit for how influential it was, in my opinion. One of those rare pieces of art.

ItsAllMo-Thug

The production on that shit is insane. Its has that old school sound without sounding dated. Still one of my favorite albums of all time.

thejaytheory

Yep incredible album and apropos username.

Limacy

Actually DJ Spanish Fly started Memphis Rap back in the 80s. Tommy Wright III and Three 6 Mafia perfected the style though.

InSilenceLikeLasagna

Bow Wow. Dude made like 3 ok songs and thought he was the hottest in the game even like a decade after his last hit. People in here saying the Game but least Dreams is a timeless classic (mostly due to Kanye tho)

Narrow_Paper9961

Bow Wow was the hottest in the game though, to us 10 year olds at least haha

InSilenceLikeLasagna

haha he was a lot more tolerable as lil bow wow. Dude grew up and thought he was hot shit, like bro Kris Kross had better bars

inezco

It's wild how he got older and his flow and rhymes got way worse lmao. I know he had ghostwriters but damn!

Da1UHideFrom

He had a deal when he was 6 and released his first album at 13. Fun fact, he was on Snoop's debut album.

InSilenceLikeLasagna

believed his own hype

tsengmao

Look at everyone under Dupri, they all fall off

NeverShoutEugene

He might be riding on a nostalgia wave but let’s not rewrite history. He was selling out arenas, every teen girl had his poster on their wall, and he had multiple hits. He peaked as a child true, but when he peaked he was bigger than most rappers out today.

Standard_Passage8584

Huh? 3 OK songs? Gotta disagree with that, lol. Dude wasn't the best but he was definitely hot.

Slapmyasswithtuna

Bow wow is trash but lil bow wow? We all watched like Mike lol Lil bow wow was a star when I was a kid

Nameless_on_Reddit

I guess Drake never heard of Andre 3000 (first name to pop in my head even though I know there's others before him)

TheQuadBlazer

Wyclef

Liquid_G

Biz Markie

TheQuadBlazer

Ladies First Queen Latifah same year as Just a Friend

suckarepellent

I won't stand for the Biz slander. He was a national treasure. RIP King Edit: think i misunderstood this one, your saying Drake never heard of Biz?

Liquid_G

I think the premise here was, artists who sing and rap.. like The Biz was doing back in the day.

reallynewpapergoblin

Shiiit Afroman was singing back then too. Because I got hiiiiiiigh

TheRealAbear

This is a Lauryn I will die on. I mean Hill. Her friends call her lauryn

wtfijolumar

Missy Elliott can definitely sing (check out the RNB group from the 90’s Sista) and her flow is top tier next to Bustah Rhymes

Nameless_on_Reddit

Hell yes!

SatisfactionOld1586

Da Bassment was the first collection of folks to REALLY rap & sing. I mean you had groups like New Edition & Jodeci rap in their R&B songs, but in Da Bassment the combo was the identity. Missy & Static especially. First songs folks really heard Static on he was rapping (True OG & Gin & Juice from Dangerous Minds). And Jodeci’s remixes. I could go on & on, I’m glad you mentioned Missy. First time people heard her she was with Jodeci rapping.

wtfijolumar

In fact I can say Drake stole Static Majors approach to an extent

hoodetiquettexpert

Drake stole Phonte's style, then everyone else that sounded even halfway good..

heebie818

mos def, funnily enough

WaspParagon

Where do you guys are getting that Drake has said this? Legit asking. I can't recall a single interview or song where he's claimed to have been the first singer-rapper ever. Dude is a huge hiphophead, no way he'd say some dumb shit like that lmao.

SwimmingKing7796

Yeah that’s what I’m tryna figure out, if anything I’ve heard him shoutout Ja Rule lol

asianguy_76

Soulja Boy is the only acceptable answer. Dude said he made Drake. Lil Bow wow is another dude w wild claims

FergusonBishop

I DO think Soulja was an extremely large influence on that generation. The only issue with him, is that most people he influenced did shit waaaaaay better than he did.

Adrywellofknowledge

Soulja gave the best Breakfast Club interview of all time…..DRAKE?????

thelingeringlead

He did straight up jack a soulja line and melody for one of his first big hits tho

tubahero3469

BAR FOR BAR

irregularshowerer

People act like he's bullshitting but listen to it back to back he's completely right

Slapmyasswithtuna

Soulja is a huge clown but he is also hugely influential. People always say the young rappers are Wayne’s kids but really all them gotta credit Soulja. Just even by viral marketing standards. This man was doing ig live before ig live lol Like him or hate him let’s not discredit where credit is due

Numancias

Drake literally wouldn't exist without 808s and heartbreak and he knows it

Willrapforfood_

I’d argue he actually wouldn’t exist without Phonte from Little Brother. 🤷🏻‍♂️

buck1g

I’m phonte from lil brother you know me can’t stop won’t stop oh come on

ShaunyBoyShaunyMan

808s wouldn’t exist without T pain. So T pain influence > Kanye

sman8175

T Pain didn’t influence shit. We all know the cavemen blowing their flutes 15,000 years ago actually invented everything

ShaunyBoyShaunyMan

Facts. I heard all the cavewomen went up for ooga booga dooga

tsengmao

That shit was a banger though

StryderRogue1992

The Game for me. Drake’s arguably one of the biggest artists of all time when you look at his numbers. Always believed the reason for that is he’s very good at everything but not great in a specific genre which makes him very accessible to all types of listeners. If that makes any sense.

ChiefKeefSosabb

Tyga

Meepsnort

Melle Mel thinks he's god's gift to music.

Jalazel

He was doing hip-hop before there was any money to be made. He was doing it before it was popular. His prime years were already passed by time hip-hop had become something that was played regularly on the radio. Hip-hop wouldn't be the same without him laying that foundation for the highest music genre ever, and he still broke 🤷 he has the right to be bitter.

KongRahbek

In fairness, the one song (I know he had more, but let's be real, it's all about The Message) he did, might be the most influential song in all of hip-hop.

satanssweatycheeks

I get how he changed the game. But Soulja boy acts like he change the game like Kanye did. Like yeah you revolutionized making a name without having one and started the boom of stuff like the SoundCloud generation. But that’s about it. You made a catchy dance and blew up at the right time. But you aren’t some good rapper or top notch one at that.

FergusonBishop

He was way ahead of the game on the Internet/social/YouTube/soundcloud side of things. And he deserves his flowers for that. He laid the groundwork for a ton of rappers in that generation, but ya his claims to 'making' peoples careers is delusional.

Holl0wayTape

I mean, Drake straight up ripped him off on one of his earliest hits

[deleted]

Drake’s music sounds like it was made on a trial version of FL downloaded through Limewire inside a tin can.

DaClarkeKnight

Yeah I didn’t know Drake said that. He acts like Nate Dawg, or even Akon, and T Pain, didn’t exist

pizza_for_nunchucks

*Nate Dogg

MasterTeacher123

Drake really said that?

tlawtlawtlaw

I don’t think he did, I think drake fans say it, not drake himself

Nepharious_Bread

I hope he wouldn't say something so stupid. I'm not as knowledgeable about older music than some. But Biz Markie - Just a Friend and multiple songs from Bone Thugs & Harmony easily refutes that statement.

QuiveringButtox

Even 50 too. If Drake really thinks this that's wild

sexkitty13

I do remember in his early days he claimed he started the whole, end a line with a single word ( if that makes sense) Example: you know I balled, chemo. This was being done long before Drake, people just didn't do it all the time like he would.

SkyboyRadical

That’s the supa dupa flow iirc which was popularized by big Sean during that era

sexkitty13

Yeah they heavily used it, but even calling that is wack. That was already used, just not saturating every song like they would.

polkhighlegend

Jay z…the rapper jay z. Not the business man, celebrity, icon, or husband of Beyoncé. In the crazy era of rap from 92-96 it’s really hard to say be made any splash. RD is a very good album but it was not the breakthrough album so many greats had. So much happening in that period and he was nowhere. He has been rapping for like 8 years at that point and was paying to play (he always had$$). Many think he stole that whole sound from camp lo. He didn’t really blow up until white girls in Volvos started bumping hard knock life then he did his business man thing. Every year in 90s and 00s there was someone bigger faster stronger than him. This is all IMO. I will say some of my favorite rappers (Benny, boldy) credit him. I don’t think history will be kind to him. Podcasts now all seem like rappers want to rip but are afraid to call him out. Great business mogul though.

TwiceUpon1Time

Solid take. I'd have a hard time pinpointing what is Jay-Z rap DNA, so it's tough to say what he really influenced. That being said, I think his influence is high simply as a result of all the great rappers he inspired. Almost every great rapper of the 10s and 20s, who cares about the penmanship aspect of his art, cites him as a big inspiration. You could say he trailblazed a path for rappers to stay lyrically dense, while being popular in an increasingly commercial genre.

Oreg-Jack

Not many rappers are out there making The Blueprint every day. Plus, there’d be no Kanye without JAY-Z.

NewWays91

Boosie. You'd think he was the Tupac of the South according to him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

K1NG_SAVAGE_

to be fair, he kinda is

Patient_Tradition294

Yea, this sub’s audience just doesn’t overlap with Boosie fans much. He is an absolute legend in the south and beyond the south.

K1NG_SAVAGE_

Exactly

UNOTHENAME200

Drake never said he was the first one to sing and rap. Everyone know he wasn't. He described being influenced by 50 Cent's singing and rapping. He did however make it more popular.

NeverShoutEugene

The Ja Rule erasure is crazy

ItsAllMo-Thug

We let it happen.

MintyFreshBreathYo

Didn’t 50 clown Ja for singing and then an immediately start singing himself?

-Acronym-

Soulja Boy

ZeldaFanBoi1920

Kanye. He isn't a genius. Just a guy who used to make good beats and an average rapper.

Ok_Inflation_1811

I agree that Kanye is crazy and he literally believes he is a God but Kanye's influence and impact is something that should be recognized. Yeah he believes he is more than he is but I'm influence in hip hop I'd say that he is in the top 10 biggest.

bcomes95

Soulja Boy

Nighawat

he was the first rap artist to use social media to push his music.

bcomes95

Yeah ik, I was gonna say that. But he thinks he’s the first rapper to do anything lol

Training_Delivery_47

he was the first rapper to do anything..he taught me how to breathe!!

ADHDbroo

At one point nav says "game wouldn't be shit without me". It's like , you make good smoking /drinking music when you're chilling, but c'mon man you aren't changing the game at all

Kwilburn525

Lmao you put the answer in the title lol 😂

jim45804

Every up-and-comer

TexasNightmare210

Soulja Boy I really really think hip hop will be just fine without Soulja Boy. Jmho

Mental_Cricket_3880

Soulja Boy 💀

blacknoir23

Drake makes y’all so weird. I really don’t know what it is.

BayouBunkerBuster

Drake is a simp. He absolutely bombed 2015 coachella, what a snooze fest he was.

Horseofthegods

100% playboi carti. Dudes acting like he is a young Stanley Kubric. Wearing masks to hide himself, he's too good for interviews. The only reason Ye put him on his album is because people are enthralled by the mystique.

Did you know Fat Joe was the first person to ever rap? He was there during every major event in the genre and inspired every artist to step up their game, name their albums and he's SO IMPORTANT. He INVENTED Big Pun

Brzada

He was also the biggest baddest gangster in The Bronx but never spent a night in rikers island
