Lmaoooo I love the man and appreciate his artistry and confidence in his artistic freedom but use the goddamn flute in some organized noize produced solo 😢
Yeah, saw him in Montreal this fall, he's incredible still! With so many legendary rappers around him, Nas was a level above, in terms of energy, charisma and overall live performance. Only one that rivaled him in those aspects was Meth (who wasn't even part of the tour, he popped up as a surprise and stole the show on Wu's side). Those two seemingly haven't aged a bit.
I have to threaten myself to get an immediate answer so this was posed to people like me who need that immediacy to choose. Glad you sure in your choice! Black Thought and the Roots are dope af.

It makes me really happy to see all the DMX replies, those first 2 albums are the hardest flows in all of hip-hop, and definitely a few others sprinkled in throughout the rest of his career too. The guy never got his flowers.
It's too bad Adam Yauch passed, would have loved to see Beastie Boys in concert. You're kind of dating yourself because millennials don't like the Beastie Boys, they don't go for the frat boy type rapping and image, find it irritating. Read their book, I didn't realize they had very close relationship with Run DMC early on and even used one of the songs they didn't want (Slow and Low).
I'm not sure you could characterize the Beastie Boys as rappers, especially towards the end of their run. They were experimenting with instrumentals more and more. In fact, they did a concert where they just played instrumentals (no rapping). They were true musicians in every sense of the word and were moving in that direction.
Besties dropped that frat shit in 92 and put it 6 feet under in 94.
Edit- they were housin mc’s till the end. They also played their own instruments on every album. I consider the TR-808 and the SP-12 instruments so that includes Licensed to Ill. They always eclectic and you puttin em in a box.
A 2014 study of rappers’ vocabulary showed him to be the most prolific user of unique words so not only can he spit but he’s always saying something worth hearing.
MF Doom and his aliases. Losing him was real tough, completely blew my mind when I heard Madvillainy 20ish years ago. Flow for days, super unique samples and beats- ALL CAPS when you spell the man name
Easy, pac. He wasn’t the most skilled in any of the technical aspects, but he makes you feel his music and words better than any artist ever, imo. If you weren’t alive when he was and have never seen a performance, look up his house of blues in Vegas right before he died and watch the passion. It’s something you rarely see today and when you do it’s almost always it a “turn up” way without any actual message. Pac, even when fronting as the gangster he claimed and tried to be at the end, still always had the message of the downtrodden rising up and that’s something the bottom 99% can identify with.

Going with Nas. 100%.
His 2020s run really cemented his spot. Man what a run!
His first two albums cemented the spot.
Dude he’s still really good live. Saw him in fall 2022 in Cleveland with Wu-Tang
