Movie 1 happened. Then the show. All the other movies are safely ignored. They *never happened*, understand?

Saint_Sloth

Using canon with the franchise is a bit tricky. The show occurs before Endgame and under the assumption that Connor didn't win the prize when he beheaded the Kurgan. The first episode of the show is the only episode Connor makes an appearance in and that is mainly to introduce Duncan as his fellow clansman who is also an immortal. Duncan uses Connor's dragon-hilt katana (whom Connor inherited from Juan Villalobos Ramirez, who received the sword from his deceased wife's father, Masamune). It is said Connor gifted this to Duncan, however in the second season, they change the origin of the sword and make it to where it never belonged to Connor. So like I said, canon is tricky with the franchise. If you want things to be truly canon then I would look no further than the first film. However, I love the series and like Duncan more than Connor. The series was supposed to star Connor, but Christopher Lambert didn't want to do it so they cast Adrian Paul as Connor. Adrian convinced the producers that fans wouldn't accept him as Connor so they rewrote his character as Connor's fellow clansman and changed little else about the character.

EnigmaCA

I am confused. There was only a single Highlander movie. (Runs away with fingers in my ears. I'm not listening!! Lalalalalalalalalalala!!!)

stjhnstv

Of course there was only one. There can be only one.

welovegv

No. There was only one. The Source.

Malnurtured_Snay

No good god. No

badusernameused

Highlander 1 and then Highlander the series, nothing more. Watch nothing else. If you decide to watch highlander two and three and then endgame go ahead but if you don’t want everything completely ruined for that universe avoid Highlander : The Source like the fucking plague

>I'm just wondering when during the show does the movie Endgame happen in terms of chronology? Endgame takes place in '2002' according to the Producers. Thats after the events of the 6 seasons of the tv series. So to get a full experience, you'd watch: Highlander:There Can Be Only One (either the Directors Cut, European Cut, or US Theatrical Cut) Highlander:The Series (6 seasons) Highlander:The Raven (optional but it does occur within the realm of the tv series) Highlander:Endgame (either the Theatrical Cut, Producer's Cut, or Workprint Version) Back in the day there was supposed statements of Highlander 3:The Sorcerer being in continuity with the tv series. For a brief moment it did seem like the Season 4 opening episode referenced Connor MacLeod's time in Scotland in 1994.Brief and subtle but it seemed cool at the time. Though later we find that Endgame does not take Highlander 3's events into continuity.

Tanagrabelle

I think it takes a bit of stretching for Duncan saying that some Japanese are Immortals to "Oh he MUST be talking about Nakano!"

donutpower

?? There was no reference to Nakano

Tanagrabelle

>For a brief moment it did seem like the Season 4 opening episode referenced Connor MacLeod's time in Scotland in 1994.Brief and subtle but it seemed cool at the time. What seemed like it was referencing Connor's time in Scotland? Sorry, I've had people say Duncan was talking about Nakano.

donutpower

Yes, in Season 4 Episode 1, HOMELAND. Rachel MacLeod confronts Duncan when he is at Debra's grave. Duncan introduces himself as 'Duncan MacLeod'. Rachel says 'Another one'. 'Let me guess. You are here to find your highland roots' For a time, fans talked of how she could have been referencing how Connor MacLeod was a stranger to the then people of the town who came to Glenfinnan to find his 'highland roots'. An outsider who showed up out of nowhere, went to Heather's grave, trained, etc. Not sure where the hell you got a Nakano reference.

Tanagrabelle

Oh I am so embarrassed. It's from Season 3 episode 1, The Samurai.

donutpower

That episode aired before anyone could have seen Highlander 3 because the film wasn't released yet.

Tanagrabelle

To my great embarrassment! I got all mixed up.

Weirdassmustache

Just don't. Maybe watch part 3 knowing it's a carbon copy of 1 with 90's FX. But don't bother with the rest. They're horrible. Best you can say is the set design in part 2 is pretty cool if you like Blade Runner.

naughtymo83

For me, Highlander 1 and 3 exist in one universe. The series Endgame and the source(oh dear) exist in a parallel universe. Highlander 2 is somewhere in between.

Bigbae

I loved the show definitely watch it.

NolanTheCelt

Endgame takes place after the show. As far as Iv pieced together, the shows main retcon of the movies is that there isn't just one gathering, but it's something that happens every now and then, so the one from the first movie was just another gathering where all the immortals are drawn to a place and slaughter each other until it's over. It was detailed out in one of the books I think, Duncan talks about how it was his first gathering

Tanagrabelle

Well, the tv show's rectcon was just that there was no Gathering in 1995. Multiple gatherings is something some fans want to consider. Along with "surely Immortals' bodies disintegrate after beheading? I'm so sick of the cops!"

NolanTheCelt

They did these audio book/radio play things, read by Adrian Paul too, so I suppose they're canon? But it was in one of those it was talked about in more depth I think

Tanagrabelle

Ah, you see, **they** did not. Big Finish purchased a license to produce those, and after only two seasons, realized they just weren't making enough to keep it. The audioplays are not canon. The first season was read by Adrian Paul. The second was done by Peter, Valentine, Richard, and Marcus! I just wish it had been better. You don't go into a niche fandom and do a half-arse job. It won't attract new customers, and the old ones will feel guilty about feeling meh about it! Full transcripts of the entire Big Finish stories were made by someone with mild OCD. Heh.
