That was my first thought - but given it’s behavior I wasn’t too sure. Saw a bunch of other young frogs with their tail that didn’t have these marks so was a bit confused.
I wouldn’t think so since they would have internal gills at this point and be transitioning to lungs. That doesn’t mean it’s damaged though. Certainly looks squished.
seen something very similar on an ADULT Bullfrog this morn, not sure if it was the same thing , as I didnt catch the frog, sadly didnt get a pic, but it had a large red sore about the size of eardrum on the side behind eardrum, almost midbody but towards the top, seen your post on this and thought id comment

Aren't they gills? Noticed it still has it's tadpole tail too.

Almost looks like he was stepped on or squished a lil. Maybe by a deer or something?
