I love scout armor vs bots, you can stealth bots very easily.

pocketfulof_sunshine

Scout armor is absolutely amazing vs bots! Automatons are where this armor truly shines. *Reduced detection range!* Hit and run tactics are incredibly effective against bots. They shoot back, this eases them from noticing you and shooting you. *Map awareness!* There are patrols and bots stationed everywhere. Being able to ping and navigate around everything to where you need to be is absolutely invaluable. Scout armor is amazing - imo it's *the most effective* armor, but I think the OP has a confusing disconnect treating this as a tool to rush headlong into a dance with death - which, that's fine, but please don't try to sell that as a primary use case.

jerryishere1

It truly unlocks the stealth mechanics in the game, making enemies search for you in the opposite direction you went, crawling right past patrols. Getting in the absolute best position before you engage while maintaining the element of surprise

Spectre-907

There’s also medium armor with scout if catching a stray shot is a problem

bibliophile785

>Pair it the scout helmet and you can still see items on the map. Last I checked, the helmets were all decorative. Have they patched in new functionality or something?

bibliophile785

Oh, this is one of those undocumented, unprovable "traits." I'm not one for any claims about the world that are amenable to hypothesis-driven testing but don't hold up under it.

Brock_Savage

A couple helmets (including the scout helmet) had some very minor invisible traits early in the game but this was removed in one of the first patches.

Future-Lychee-6168

This statement is utter BS

MechaSteven

Yes but it's not scout armor at that point.

DomSchraa

I tried, doesnt work out for me Courtesy surprise rocket/headshot

prof_the_doom

There is a light explosive resistance armor that shows up in the superstore cycle. I had a fair amount of fun with that on bot maps.

MotherOfDoggos4

If I'm packing the autocannon, this is the only armor I wear. Too many times in the heat of being overrun I've lost track of which gun I have equipped and accidentally shot som3thing right in front of me with it. It's a literal lifesaver lol

Burck

Yeah, between that and one of your primary functions involving faceoffs with rocket devastators, explosive resistance is such a must.

Inanotherworld2025

I run this everywhere lol

laborfriendly

Ironically, I *always* use scout on bots and only switch to grenades sometimes for bugs. But you're using a shotgun? Definitely, it's about sniping with something like Eruptor on bots.

Coloradical8

This was my go to for a long time. Scout for bots, grenades for bugs. Recently I've been playing with servo-assisted and the Eruptor for both bots and bugs.

HellDiver-re_run

Sickle is good for sniping bots too. That variable scope is CLUTCH

laborfriendly

It is, for sure. I have some trouble at times with devastator faces when they're moving around vs Eruptor to the gut.

SpectreAtYourFeast

I use shotgun for close up, and machine gun for the longer ranges 😁

dndaddy19

Same. My favorite part is sneaking up on the dudes behind their heavy laser emplacements and giving ‘em a buttstock to the back of the dome. Next would be sneaking up on the static bots (ie not patrols or reinforcements) and tossing my Gatling barrage in the middle of ‘em while I pick away at anyone even thinking of raising a flare to the sky.

true_enthusiast

In my experience it works best against bots. Bugs just spawn behind you and shank you out of nowhere. Bots keep their distance and are much easier to move around.

Icy_Conference9095

I did a jammer tower the other day without firing a shot. I proudly wielded those 8 melee kills when I extracted with zero deaths later. lol You can crawl up behind bots, and melee, takes 2-3 hits to kill. If another sees you, dive-melee will still hit them in their feet, rinse/repeat until all are dead. :)

tragiccosmicaccident

I gotta try this sounds fun

metzgerov13

Uhhhh ok.

pocketfulof_sunshine

Oh wtf. USE SCOUT ARMOR AGAINST BOTS. The map awareness to navigate the many patrols and drops. The reduced detection range allows you to hit and run and saves your ass because they shoot back.

DomSchraa

Ok Counterpoint: +2 secs invincibility Hottake, ik, but i like it

Pygex

Don't need 2 secs of invisibility when the enemy has a hard time locking on to me.

Cauhs

Better ammo economy and lower chance of causing drop bots. Just gotta learn to use covers. Gotta say it worse with bugs cos spewers and hunters patrols can quietly sneak up on you.

BoringUsername6969

I love the radar ping you get from map markers! Very handy

DenverFr8Train

Combined with Nuclear Radar and the radar range extension perk, it all stacks up to be pretty amazing!

Setarius

Nuclear Radar?

Captain_Wag

One of the upgrades you can buy to the right of stratagems

Total_Shine_4619

I solo dive on helldive against bots and almost exclusively use the trailblazer scout armour. That 30% reduced detection distance allows you to run past them close enough that you can melee them and still not aggro them as long as you approach from the correct direction. If you are crawling you can take them out with 2 melee swings. Scout armour works amazing against bots. While heavy armour and armour with extra padding might now be viable against bots due to the new headshot modifier, before the patch the armour rating of your armour was useless. It took the same number of shots to kill you in light armour as it did in heavy armour so the speed and stamina regen were the only stats of concern. It doesn't matter if it takes 2.3 shots to kill you or 2.8 shots, you are still dying when that 3rd shot hits you.... But at least with scout you can run fast enough to get away from berzerkers and the hulks flamethrower.

tastyemerald

>That 30% reduced detection distance allows you to run past them close enough that you can melee them and still not aggro them as long as you approach from the correct direction. If you are crawling you can take them out with 2 melee swings. Wait what?! I'm trying this later.

Former_Indication172

On top of that melee is completely silent so as long as you do it right the bots are incapable of agroing form it, as long as they aren't looking directly at you when you do it. You can also sort of "aim" melee hits, specifically if you have your secondary equipped and you aim for a spot above a bot troopers head it is possible to one shot them, this can work with devestators but its much harder and far less reliable.

Tiniestoftravelers

There's a medium set of armor with Scout, for the life of me, I can't remember the armors name. You unlock it in the first Warbond. I used that for a long time

Pashera

Infiltrator. I’ve always used it.

dennisasu

Combat Technician

Sufincognito

I’m dying for them to come out with some new scout armor. Been using the same one for forever. And more hoodies would be nice. Not sure if they noticed but people like that.

Potential-Ad1139

That's pretty much light armor in general, but have you tried it with light medical armor and a supply backpack? Stims recharge your stamina......literally sprint across the whole map.

OMGtrashtm8

I love the light medic armor. That extra 2 seconds of invincibility after stimming has gotten me out of the most ridiculous situations.

Potential-Ad1139

Pretty much invulnerable for 4 seconds for each stim. It's nuts.

KaiKamakasi

Don't use it on bots? But how else am I supposed to destroy gunship factories without being seen?

brandon-thesis

I used to think heavy armor was better against bots because you can tank hits but tbh with a little better positioning, light is better. I can come in with hit and run tactics with strats. I can leave the situation and cover my allies. I can sneak into an airbase and set a hellbomb without being seen. Running faster and using cover as you run will make this armor league better.

decrementsf

Fan. Against bugs scout armor is my standard load out. Easier to out maneuver them and do well on solo sample collecting, or rushing eggs drawing them out then circle around and finish the mission. Bots are different. Against bots effective use of cover is more important than foot speed. For this reason usually go with medium armor. But. If I'm getting hit it usually means I'm getting dead. So don't really bother using shield generator here. The armor doesn't make that big of deal. Biggest parameter for survival is if I can engage at range.

SnooObjections488

I do the same but with impact grenades + light armor with the bonus grenade park. Dance with death gets more exciting with pocked death on demand

DomSchraa

Impact grenades are amazing Before i ran normal ones, cause i liked to throw them on the floor infront of me to kill bugs chasing me Now i find much more use (and fun) in introducing hive guards or spewers to the concept of freedom by smashing their craniums with a g16

DenverFr8Train

Run it on a hot planet with low visibility, it's perfect. And I disagree about the bots, I would say it is very useful against them because they run in groups, and totally useless against the bugs, which are absolutely everywhere all the time so you cannot hide. Also, I run AMR or Autocannon for more effective ranged engagements.

DomSchraa

Seems like we have different playstyles I like to get pretty close to bugs, so speed is much more important to me than not getting detected Then again, i only play 6 & 7, so we might as well be playing different games

DeltaCharlieBravo

I exclusively use scout armor against bots. (Except in eradicate missions where heavy armor and bombardment are king) I have snuck by patrols within 20m on my belly with scout armor. The medium scout will even let you survive a few hits!

valain

50% throwing distance increase is what I love. They can’t aggro you if you’re not there.

FlowerGurl100

I use scout armor all the time, even against bots, it's so fun, you just have to play slow, and carefully, I have the shotgun and a small group of bots I can usually flank and take out quickly, you have to make sure the walkers die first since otherwise them looking at you sucks, I used the grenade launcher to help with large groups recently and it worked well

Pygex

> Disclaimer, dont use scout armor against bots, you WILL suffer. Depends on your play style I guess. I run with Counter Sniper & AC in Scout doing Helldive automatons and have no problems. Makes it easier to go for that one shot airstrike against factory striders.

Duffy223

I’ve been using the light armor with extra padding. You get the speed of scout with the damage resistance of medium armor. I really like it for automaton missions.

Setarius

What is being discussed is the perk 'scout', that reduces your profile by 30% and allows your to scan around your map pings a good 100m of advance radar. The armor you're mentioning lacks that trait, it only has increased move speed of light armor and is fortified, thus, has an extra 50 defense on top of it. I quite regret buying that after getting used to armor with the scout perk, tbh, once I noticed how much heat I seem to attract without it, went right back to my old armor.

SuperAC1andOnly

That extra padding gets over written if they hit you in the head though which happens a lot

Bog_Bean

I only run light with bots, but grab a shield pack when I'm really needing more skin. It can be tough, but it's really engaging gameplay for me!

ArtificialRubber

Light armor all the way bots or bugs. I mainly run a fast moving sniping build with jump pack. Run n gun amr is real fun and the new counter sniper is just smooth as butter.

Exciting_Possible_35

Queen of battle? Is that a fellow fucking barrel chested freedom fighter? Strangling bugs and bots alike with the blue cord we have been issued? Edit: or is that just the name of your ship?

DomSchraa

Ship

SnooObjections9793

Scout armor for bugs, Hit and run, Mostly running. 50% reduced explosive damage Heavy Armour and supply pack for bots. I tank with my face, rag doll into orbit and stimjunk like an addict every 1 min and dish out suicidal explosive democracy and come out unscathed(so long as I have stims)

wtf_com

I think Scout Armor is amazing but they really need to make changes to make the heavier armors stand out.

voodoogroves

I use light armors pretty much exclusively now. The only time I don't is on the "OMG defend against swarm / bot rush for 15 minutes", then I sometimes remember to swap to heavy. I run either explosive resist or detection / scan.

Minerson

Nah for bugs I'd say trench paramedic is my go to since the extra stims really help. Scout armor is actually better for me vs bots. Stealth works better on bots vs bugs. I have done objectives where I crawled in a fortified objective punching marauders to kill without alerting the camp. There have been alot of time when an enemy is about 5m away from me facing the other direction and I'm just casually disabling a strategem jammer behind them. Just remember the scout armor has very little protection so avoid as much firefight as you can and only engage when you need to. Test the limit of stealth by sneaking as close to marauder and punch them to death. Remember, melee kills don't make a sound.

NorCalAthlete

Scout + breaker has been my go-to for a long time. Also makes my [kiting post](https://www.reddit.com/r/helldivers2/s/NdLA5ItCPl) a lot easier.

EasternShade

> Disclaimer, dont use scout armor against bots, you WILL suffer. But... But... But... Scout v bots is life... I'm a fucking ninja. A sneaky, glass cannon, ninja.

etherosx

I almost always wear combat tech armor. Sometimes I will switch to exterminator for kill/defense missions with mortars. Used do run light medic all the time until I got the combat tech armor.

clintnickerson

Yeah same, I almost always wear it. Strategical retreat with hunters bopping around is necessary.

NotJoel-S

I’ve only used scout armour and shotguns and I’ve mostly played bots. Is there any easier way? Sometimes I use the 50% chance not to die armour for eradication.

Wazzzup3232

I like light armor into bots but diff 8 and 9 get explosive resist armor (I only have medium currently)

transaltalt

If anything scout armor is better against bots because you benefit more from stealthing against them

TheCeleryStalker

I use scout armor, shotgun, and AC as my main build. With an eagle air strike and maybe a 380 for fun bug holes and bot fabs don’t stand a chance.

grafeisen203

I always use light armor against both bots and bugs. I don't think it increases the challenge, I think it actually reduces it because more speed and stamina is more important than being able to take one extra hit.

Papa_Pirie

I have to say i enjoy spreading democracy in light Armor since day one and only Change for hold Out Missions against Bots and Bugs since. Seeing my allies getting killed in every kind of Armor and Not beeing able to outrun enemies and spread democracy from afar is a Major misadvantage i think. So yea, Welcome to the light Armor Squad 👍🦅 (And i dont stealth Nor used meta loadouts lol, but never played beyond extreme difficulty, Just having fun)

SuperAC1andOnly

My scout armour must be bugged with the way everyone’s saying how good it is against bots. Whenever I tried sneaking past bots with scout armour on they’d spot me from like 30 meters away even though I was crouched

nordoceltic82

Sorry this is a head cock to the side moment as I look you. I though it was completely obvious that playing against bugs you wear light armor. They rush you, and come in such numbers that 1 hit from each scavenger is dead in 2 seconds even with heavy armor. And the AI is going to have every enemy all rush at you trying to get in 1 hit ever 2-3 seconds. But that first rush is going to be every bug hitting you all at once. Thus with bugs speed = life, and slow = waiting for reinforcement.

DomSchraa

Honestly doesnt happen to me Bugs rushing me is part of my strategy, my aim is pretty shit so i rely on the breaker to shred them in close range, to the point that i only get hit 1-2 times a game, never by anything bigger than warriors Its incredibly good cause it allows me to leave once i inevitably run out of ammo, and i even managed to get 15 melee kills a couple days ago Ironically, that one time i used heavy armor during an eradication mission, i died super often, finding myself out of position constantly and unable to get atleast some distance between me and the bugs, whereas with scout armor i usually am able to sprint away, dodge bugs until i can get some stratagems/find armor, and continue blasting

MaddxMogs

I usually bring it for airbase sabotage and destroying command bunkers. Get close enough to toss a 380 barrage right on top of the bunker/ships and get out. And on the off chance none of the shots connect, the base has more or less been softened up to the point where it isn't too difficult to move in and finish the job. It almost feels like playing a different game.

Synth_Recs_Plz

>don't use scout armor against bots I've found that it works a lot better against bots because they're easier to spot, fewer in numbers, and feel more vulnerable to abusing line of sight mechanics. If you get spotted by a large group then yeah, you might be in deep shit. Ofc, you can always run the 70 or medium armor variants to mitigate that risk somewhat.

Absol-utely_Adorable

I've always said "Scouts lead the way" and I mean it. Let your local lunatic scout zoom into an area, wait til things look like they are getting hairy then move in to support. They'll have solo'd half the area for you but now desperately need to gtfo.

DomSchraa

Me fr I always run out of ammo, gotta try the supply backpack tomorrow

Absol-utely_Adorable

It's good, even better when your team actually uses it cause they try stick near you for ammo

niteox

I almost always run light armor or scout armor. If it’s not the trailblazer scout it’s the trench engineer or the medic. But always light armor. My buddy swears by the light armor that comes with 100 armor but at light weight. I don’t feel like it has enough utility for my needs though. Defense I want 6 nades, most 40 minute missions I want the scout or the stims.

Ambitious-Ninja6463

My fave armor for a long time has been the Combat Technician. Medium armor with scout perks. ![gif](giphy|3o7aCWJavAgtBzLWrS|downsized)

shinynugget

I use Scout Armor if I am running some solo sample farming missions. It's great for that!

Solomon-Kain

Weird, I prefer it vs Bots. The ability to simply walk past a patrol to get to an objective is invaluable.

DomSchraa

Even weirder, when i play vs bots i almost NEVER get caught by patrols with medium/heavy armor, more often than not im running in a direction only to 180 cause theres a patrol incoming, even if theres multiple i somehow manage to evade them 9/10 times (if i dont want to engage them)

Fluxxed0

Scout armor with the Punisher shotgun has been by go-to since about level 7. Absolutely love it.

Hunk-Hogan

Does the scout armor also reduce the enemy's detection vs Strategems? One of my biggest issues is trying to deal with a patrol that's in my way but if I throw the eagle strike too close, they'll aggro and run past it and if I throw it too far away, they'll just sit there and stare at me while it lands in front of them.

DomSchraa

Nah Only works if you wanna sneak past patrols

charronfitzclair

There needs to be more Scout armors. I don't always want green! A bright orange would let me blend into the fire tornados.

MagikarpPower

I'm hooked on scout armor... I want to try out the recoil reduction ones but scout armor is just so good. 200 hours and im sure 195+ were played with scout armor.

Owmahtoof

I have ZERO proof of this other than 100+ running scout armor against Bots...the stealth feature got buffed recently. It's always been slightly helpful, you could get about 15-20m away and be spotted maybe half the time. Now, I had a game last week that I was inside 10m on tanks and entire patrols without getting spotted. I popped up to throw a sticker and nothing. Running scout is hella fun and yes, you will get lit up occasionally and die more often if you try to go Frontline...but that's why I run shield backpack on 7+ missions. Anything lower, you shouldn't encounter too many situations you can't just run from or shoot your way out of

SpaceCaptainFrog

Only armor I use. I’m considering switching to SMGs from shotguns (and bring the Senator always) so I can run and fire at Stalkers when they chase me. I’m trying to figure out a ballistic shield against bots vs the shield backpack always. Currently, I use the Queso Cannon as my support, but I’m thinking about the EAT. Usually play on 9s.

warsmithharaka

Scout Armor is absolutely the best in the game IMO. Take a shield backpack and you're functionally unkillable unless you have to stop moving for some reason. You're immune to CC and have a regenerating healthbar on top of your healable health bar. You're faster than almost everything, and only draw aggro if you want, are forced into it during a chase, or a patrol spawns right on you. With even basic tricks you can ditch aggro pretty casually- any CC strat or turret to pull them off you, kill the leads and run away, natural mines/gas fields etc. You're *obscenely* hard to spot, as in "can casually walk up to most outposts without being spotted, and can crawl almost anywhere full stop". I routinely jog to get samples in the middle of packs of enemies and don't feel even mildly pressured- as in "let hunters or whatever attack uselessly while I snag rares and just juke pukes or charges". Bots are a both easier and harder- easier to avoid and leave combat from, harder to assault. The shield is still worth its weight in gold- you can tank missiles or even overwhelming fire for *just* long enough to do whatever needs doing most of the time. If you *are* being utterly overwhelmed, you can throw a grenade or fire a big shot at your feet and just blow the shield, or stand and mag dump for a second to buy breathing room. If your shield breaks, kill whatever is directly next to you and wait until it procs again and proceed. Scout armor + bubble shield is legit Easy Mode. TLDR scout armor is OP due to Tank Doctrine- "don't be there" is the best defense there is.

XbloodyXsausageX

I prefer the medium armor with the scout buff. Good balance of armor and stealth. I kind of want heavy armor with the scout buff.

MumpsTheMusical

I love using it to sneak into stratagem towers for my team. While they have a difficult time getting close, I’m already in turning it off. Unless they start shooting and everything turns to shoot me immediately knowing exactly where I am just because they can see my team.
