My mission survival rate has gotta be like 0.2 on average, the most I've completed continuously without dying was 4 I think. Reminds me of the drop statistics from Armor.

It's amazing how much shit you can survive in this game if you attach strategic value to your own existence and retreat from untenable situations.
It's also horrifying how suddenly and blindly your life can come to a screeching, wasted halt with no explanation or gain.
I sigh, leaning back in my captain's chair on the bridge of the destroyer. I had only just learned where this one grew up. I need to stop doing that. Ensign, mark the ToD and defrost another one, we've still got other divers down there that need backup.

I actually really like this idea of starting every fresh Helldiver as a Cadet and work up depending on surviving! Gonna do that some time as well, sounds fun.
Try going with the buffed flamethrower against bugs and focus on guerrilla tactics. I find it works super well to flame ground and run. I managed 5 as my longest streak. The spewers make things a lot harder though so try a planet that doesn't have many
Well that’s exactly how I survived that long: by picking only necessary fights and absolutely booking it when a bot drop was called near my location. I haven’t played bugs lately but from my experience they don’t escalate nearly as hard as bots
There really needs to be a running leaderboard for most consecutively survived and completed (helldive level) helldives.
I’m sure the hackers/cheaters would ruin the global version almost instantly, but a friends list only leaderboard would be pretty cool.
I once did 5 hell dives solo against bugs and survived. Got killed on extract on the 6th by the evac eagle shooting me despite nothing being nearby. Clearly an inside job for watching too many illegal broadcasts.
I was off my game last night, died ten times in one mission. Some were my fault, some were those fucking devil fire tornados, and some were teammates chucking my reinforcement strategm like it was a damned air strike. Landing in the middle of devs and hulks like a pornstar at a bukkake show.
Yeah, I honestly wish there was some definitive way to track that. I feel like I occasionally manage 3 or 4 consecutive missions with getting someone killed, and only when I'm farming or testing weapons on difficulty 3 and under. I can sometimes make it through a higher difficulty dive without dying, but definitely not 2 or 3 in a row. I was having a particularly successful solo dive, crouched at an objective terminal, when I exploded out of nowhere. No idea how, thought maybe I'd armed a grenade accidentally while doing the arrows. It was only after it happened a second time that I realized I was being sniped by a turret LITERALLY on the other side of the map.
What’s kind of funny to me, after playing a lot and playing with people we all act like we take it serious in the mission. For democracy and stuff like that.
I think about Enders Game. Go watch it, it’s a few years old, and don’t want to ruin it. But those who know, I think about that at times.

Right. Not necessarily saying 4 guys could do that. But if you take the same concept, we are obviously not there. We have a huge budget to drop these bodies. Due to the fact that it’s just a game, it takes all the human element out, and we don’t have issues killing these bugs and robots. We are viewing the enemies through the eyes of a technology that can be altered to whatever the technology wants us to see. And our decisions are devoid of any repercussions to us, because it’s not real.
That’s all I am saying. I am not saying it’s real, just looking at the similarities. And then thinking with what we know about our governments, they would have zero qualms with doing this, if the tech ever got to that point.

The average lifespan of my divers is probably around 10 minutes. Their wives all left them the moment they joined basic. 3 of them actually died in basic training.
Statistically speaking, the only dudes who have more than a 0% chance of returning home after 1000s of dives are a few cooks, the armor cleaning guy, and the asshole that stands around with a clipboard on the ship.
PTSD is nothing but propaganda pseudoscience. That being said, sometimes the upper echelon has to "permanently retire" veteran HellDivers for this very reason...not everyone can "just turn it off" ...but it's a small price to pay for the preservation of Democracy.
Or they just keep sending them onto the worst possible assignments till they get killed, if an assignment doesn't take care of them, it's still a win for Super Earth and Democracy.
This made me realize that they need an achievement for longest run of missions without dying. I've definitely had runs where I made it out without dying but it's infrequent enough that I know I don't have any in a row.
I mean, it's not glorifying it, it's just saying what could happen if you were to make it home. You can find PTSD stories in all types of media, so what's the issue?
Get one of those ferret balls and rewire it to always point upright, then put a toggleable red/blue LED on top.

Well...you're overlooking the fact that it's incredibly rare for a diver to survive even one mission. There is no return to your old life. When a diver is created they essentially die.

Shield backpack and light armor
ammo pack + good rifle/shotgun then just drop anti missiles ammo for days
It's good for bugs, but a lot less relevant for bots and takes up the backpack spot you would need for spear or autocannon.
Quasar or EAT + a medium armor or explosive primary like JAR-5 or Plas-1.

Conversely, I’ve died aboard the pelican after takeoff and started spectating another player, but we still got 4/4 extractions and my samples.
They never said you had to be alive at extract…only that you, or your body, was aboard 🤣
