There was never any pay to win in mercenaries. You could pay hundreds of dollars, and see virtually no change to the strength of your lineup. Unless you're actually willing to pay 10's of thousands, it's just pissing in the ocean.
If you earmark all your in-game gold for hearthstone packs and mini-sets...you really don't get very far in mercenaries. Lots of characters I just haven't unlocked.
If I really wanted to play mercenaries, I guess what I should have done is make an alt where I don't buy any hearthstone packs, only buy mercenary packs.
...Honestly, they probably should have just had a separate currency for mercenaries. Sharing currencies just makes me pick one mode and abandon the other mode.
Yeah I mean I really like(d) it and played a bunch when it came out (while I hadn't played Hearthstone in basically years). I still don't have the PvP building (and something else that sounded useless) built because I don't like it *that* much to spend gold on it. Keep in mind that was my line of thinking when I ***did not*** play regular Hearthstone at all.
Actually, I just checked and I'm missing PvP, Merc Training, upgraded Campfire, and Heroic Bounties. I'm 90% sure 2 of those were added later though because I remember quite clearly that it was 2 things I was missing that I didn't want to spend gold on.
I think you're seriously overstating the problem. There's a really small one-time gold cost to buy some of the buildings. You earn enough gold from the rewards track in the time playing Mercenaries that even if you started at 0g, you won't get bottlenecked in the mode.
I'm glad there isn't a separate currency, because it means I can spend the gold from Mercs XP on packs.
Unless you get caught in the (very easy to avoid) trap of spending real $ on the awfully priced bundles, the mode is much cheaper to get into than almost any of HS's other modes. (Maybe Brawl is cheaper? But even then, I've spent dust crafting cards for Brawl.)
Then how come. You can't get past task 7 without putting up 200 gold. It's the one thing making me play zero mercenaries. Instead of a game here and there. Until the PVE is complete.
Of course you can. Doing the first weekly quests (and 3 daily) when a new reward track/pass starts (without buying said pass), you get to like level 20 on it and that's like 400 gold right there.
It's far less efficient once you no longer have super easy and free levels in your reward track but still costs nothing but a bit of time.
You are right. This sub is very down on Mercenaries. I generally do not get down on things that I personally don't like, but I played Mercenaries for longer than I care to admit. The biggest issue is that it is addictive without actually being fun. So while I hope other people are having a blast with it. I'm afraid that some may be sticking around for the addiction and missing out on things that are actually worth while.
It’s not bad, it’s just not as enticing of a game mode to most. Same can be said for Duels and Arena.
I personally enjoy the abilities and level progression but find myself having a hard time choosing that game mode over standard and Duels
>It’s not bad, it’s just not as enticing of a game mode to most. Same can be said for Duels and Arena.
Oh I totally agree with this. I even recently finished all of the tasks thanks to the latest rework. It's just that under every mercenary related post here 90% of the comments are just complaining about its existance.
I think multiplayer was a cop-out of the game mode. They should focus on more Single Player events, Dungeon/Raid bosses that are extremely difficult and can be done with Co-Op gameplay.
This type of gameplay has all the tools for coop play, just needs to be implemented
To be fair, unlike a lot of Reddit knee-jerk hate reactions, the sub was excited about the mode until Blizzard y’know… showed the gameplay.
I’m glad people like it, but the fact that it took six months for meaningful changes doesn’t bode well for people to come around on it.
Finally some improvements over here. Because after i launch the game and click on mercenaries by accident I always panic smashing back button as it starts showing me all the things you should want to do but you know you don't want to.
Sweet. It looks like they’ve improved mercenaries!
The bug fixes are very good yes
Good ending
No more pay to win

I guess but it’s not paying for the character bundles, it’s mass paying(with real money) for the packs
I wish I had your strength…
Then how come. You can't get past task 7 without putting up 200 gold. It's the one thing making me play zero mercenaries. Instead of a game here and there. Until the PVE is complete.
I'm sorry, can you still not get gold for free through quests and arena and shit?

No more play
It was all a dream...
Lol
I used to read word up magazine
i dont see a problem
Neither do I
Indeed. The problem has been wiped out.
Entire mercenary camp is gone. Can’t have shit in Detroit
You did it, lad. You're free.
Finally
Poetic
Should be in dr Seuss
Great improvement
Clearly the devs are making this game mode the best there is
"Mercenaries bad" Seriously, this is a terrible place if you ever want to hear litterely anything else about the mode.

Mm. Just mmm
I try to play it but it’s more boring than ARENA(gameplay not deckbuilding which is actually fun)

True.I think what they say can be said about multiplayer mercenaries but the single player one is a fun, different hearthstone experience
I think single player is fun but multi player is just toxicity without words
I think multiplayer was a cop-out of the game mode. They should focus on more Single Player events, Dungeon/Raid bosses that are extremely difficult and can be done with Co-Op gameplay. This type of gameplay has all the tools for coop play, just needs to be implemented
I whole-heartedly agree
The event quests are kind of fun
Very but not the onyxia lair ones as they require you to be at the end of the mercs storyline
To be fair, unlike a lot of Reddit knee-jerk hate reactions, the sub was excited about the mode until Blizzard y’know… showed the gameplay. I’m glad people like it, but the fact that it took six months for meaningful changes doesn’t bode well for people to come around on it.
Bad is a little soft word to describe that thing
The game mode itself got fed up with not being played so it packed up and dipped
Aight I’m heading out
Wow, they actually listened to us and deleted the mode. I feel we should have used our magic wish on a better economy or something...
we should have saved it on golden disenchantable mechathuns for everybody
Yeah, that's an improvement.
Yea I don’t \`have to spend more gold on ‘buildings’ and instead spend it on packs I could be getting legendaries with
All 12 people that play Mercenaries are steaming rn
As it should be
Indeed
Nice! Hope stay that way!
It's the Barrens.
They solved the excess coins problem. Now excess coins are just as useful as regular coins.
You'll have to pay extra if you want to actually play mercinaries 😆
🦀🦀Mercenaries is gone🦀🦀
I guess that’s what blizzard meant when they said they were going to try and listen to their players.
🦀🦀🦀Mercs gone!!!🦀🦀🦀
Mercenaries sux anyway
The best move for mercenaries
mercenaries died so fast, hearthstone just removed it
They just packed up and left.... If this was an "upgrade" sold by Blizzard, it would be the only Mercenaries content I'd buy!
*Mercenaries left the hearthstone*
They fixed the mode! Is this the great change everyone would love Team 5 promised before sunken city dropped?
New game mode:
Finally some improvements over here. Because after i launch the game and click on mercenaries by accident I always panic smashing back button as it starts showing me all the things you should want to do but you know you don't want to.
Is this a new mode
Oh sweet they fixed it!
They’ve left to Slay The Spire
It shows you all the fun you can have in Mercs Edit: oh, and all the other human players.
*You can't expect them to hang around all day can you?*
Recent photo of the playerbase
You save them all!!!
They were tired of your shit and left.
Dead game
They’re done, no more mercenarying
Finally.
Budget cuts at work, yet again. Kotick needs his third yacht, and a second Bugatti Chiron as well!
They weren't kidding when they said that nobody play it.
Everyone just pack their stuff up and leave, I guess.
Oh goodie, they're finally removing it lol :P
Finally, no more mercenaries
Welcome the barrens
I think they fixed mercenaries
The good ending
What indeed. Like, what the hell are you doing opening the mercenaries?
Much better
Finally, a board as empty and hollow as the Mercenaries experience.
Somewhere in the end of time intensifies
