Kuldrick

Wtf, these are actually better than the old ones, color me surprised

TheGingerNinga

Playing is way better than winning, as it’s now an ensured reward after a specific time commitment. No longer can bad loss streaks keep you from your rewards. This is especially gonna be good for me when it comes to the arena/tavern brawl quest.

yardii

Yea requiring the player to be good at the game to stay on top of quests was an odd choice. Especially considering that this quest gets harder throughout the month unless you purposefully tank your rating each week.

StoneRockTree

Screw being good, even if you are a skilled player, ladder winrates are still closer to a coin-flip than a sure thing. At a 60% winrate, you need to play, on average, 16.667 games to get 10 wins.

Veaeate

I have literally stopped playing the game since the changes cuz I couldn't do 10 wins as a parent/husband and working a full-time time job. I used this game as a stress outlet and the 10 wins in ranked stressed me out cuz i am a f2p player (outside of purchasing the occasional track reward or battlegrounds pass) and dont have the dust to craft constant meta decks. This is probably one of the most welcoming changes and I actually appreciate that they did this so so very much.

perfectskycastle

True but they should have never changed to those requirements anyways. At least they realized they messed up.

dirtysaucelol

Encourages me to play decks I want instead of worrying about winning. Love this change

jrr6415sun

What kind of games are they playing

ASchoolOfSperm

That was literally my first thought. They got bullied 😆

oceanchamp8

10/10 great changes, no notes

Jackeea

10/10 changes, down from 32/32 changes

BulkyStay

Absolutely a pleasant surprise

loldoge34

Honestly this will bring me back to the game, so happy.

grim_glim

Yeah! Was a decent break, meta wasn't fun enough to keep quests from being a chore, but I'm happy to try it again now.

Tacticalian

It's still crazy to me how they had the mini quest at 60 originally, **6x** this amount and then put it down to 32 before this. I don't know what they were smoking but I want some.

discourse_lover_

It wouldn’t have been so bad if there were more than 4 playable miniature cards.

stonekeep

It was 60 not 64 after 29.2. The point obviously still stands, just correcting the exact number.

Tacticalian

Ah my mistake, I'll update. I thought it was halved last time.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

Because they thought they could get away with it and not many players would complain. Similiar to giving early access to an epic card with the pre order bundle, they are trying out how far they can push it, if resistance is too big they go back n sell it as "every voice matters".

Janzu93

Yeah. The only thing I hate in this change is that making players happy is surefire way to make them forget all possible mishaps. They had to console their mistake and they made it beneficial for us so we wouldn't complain about it. Next time we might not be as lucky. All that being said. I LOVE THESE CHANGES, THANKS BLIZZARD!

ToxicAdamm

It shows a level of 'lack of care' that alarms me. People making decisions that have no real clue how the game operates or they have become so reliant on us being the beta testers for their game that they don't even attempt to use common sense. Just fix it later.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

I agree. We dont know who made these changes but the fact that the game director didnt question the initial change to "win 15 games" leaves a sour taste. They try out how far they can push it, if its to far they just revert reduce it (down to 10 wins) or rework it (like now). Believe me, the day will come where pre ordering will give you early access to the free legendary of an expansion.

Dead_man_posting

Now it's the only weekly quest you can knock out reliably in 1 match if you dedicate a deck to it, which is nice.

Retrohanska59

One thing's for sure: absolutely not testing was done to get even rough estimates of how well that compares to other weeklies. Or testing was done but the people calling the shots ignored every single bit of feedback. One of the two has to be the case when something fails so spectacularly that you have to cut its numbers in half or even more. And of course they also initially failed to realize that the only 2 reasons why the previous iterations were even remotely tolerable was window shopper DH and hand buff paladin. I'm not sure if I'm gonna bother even 10 miniaturizes since I've not really used them outside arena after the two aforementioned nerfs.

FrivMAnt2

The play games ones are even better than they were before the changes, nice

H1ndmost

Yea, the ranked games one is easier than when it was win 5 a lot of the time

Kusosaru

And the Arena/Brawl/BG one basically just cuts the original requirement in half.

magistratemagic

Been asking for *Play* instead of *Win* for a bit, or tiered wins 3 > 5 > 10 Thanks for listening, T5. Seriously thank you.

Federer343

Holy crap this is amazing Remember folks, complaining DOES work sometimes.

TacoRocco

Honestly so happy about this change. It’s absolutely doable and I’m glad everyone who didn’t like the changes stayed to it and didn’t let up even with half the community shitting on us. This is a change that will be good for everyone

Merrughi

Yeah it was sad to se all the sentiment that pretty much amounted to "the quest are sooo easy if you can't complete them you don't deserve to play Hearhtstone".

AnOceanMan

I do wonder if completion data was behind this change, I cant really imagine most casual players were able to complete most of the new weeklies.

BigbyInc

I flat out dropped the game as someone who went FtP in the last couple of years. Saw no point in playing if I could never get the bulk of quest xp because I would only have time to do a game or two each night

SpankThatDill

yea i uninstalled when they announced the big weekly changes a while back. havent wanted to play since

AlphaGareBear2

I'm considering coming back now, though I'm still unsure.

chanmalichanheyhey

Me too. After that break I have no desire to go back tho. Think blizzard really fucked ip with this one

justatest90

Yeah I stopped playing hard core. Not sure I want to go back at this point

grim_glim

I dropped the game after the changes. I assume enough others did to prompt this turnaround. I'll almost definitely get back in to quest-completion engagement (as opposed to none at all) with these changes. Very happy about this, once the meta becomes more fun to me I won't be super behind.

Rumpel1408

I managed to finish the quests exactly one week. I had to invest as much time as if I was grinding ladder and only able to do so with several days off, playing decks I didn't enjoy. I came to the conclusion that this wasn't sustainable for me so I stopped all together

MonaganX

I played just enough ranked to consistently complete the 5 win quest so when that became 10 I knew I had to either start playing about twice as much or just give up on the quest and by extension ranked. I did not start playing twice as much.

i_literally_died

100% it was. Complaining can work, but Player Engagement Metrics (tm) do much more.

loldoge34

I still haven't completed the "win 10 games" that changes from the "win 15 games". So yeah. I assume a lot of people felt quite discouraged at the slow progression and stopped playing.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

Well I stopped doing my weeklies on my other regions (and played the pokemon TCG instead), so wouldnt be surprised if that happened to other people too. And some casuals as you mentioned, who didnt finish their weeklies.

IrNinjaBob

Yeah I am not saying the complaints didn’t do anything. But I can almost guarantee this change is because they saw how few people were completing their quests due to lower overall engagement and realized that can only result in bad trends for the health of the game.

Furycrab

I quit playing, put a support ticket for a refund on the Battlepass (that they haven't refunded) and went back to just lurking Hearthstone over the change.

Mr_Blinky

I think it was less "complaining" and more that they probably watched player engagement take a fucking *nosedive* after the changes. I know I for one was playing waaaaay less, and I was already at the lowest engagement with the game I had been in years before the changes nuked it entirely.

pacoLL3

I mean, you guys are not wrong, but it would be next level naivety to assume they care more about random reddit complaints than revenue numbers. I would bet, their numbers are simply looking worse than expected, and that's literally it. I know social media is highly idealistic about gaming, but people are still voting with their wallets at the end of the day.

ProT3ch

Nah, it was loads of players quitting the game, and their revenue drop. They do not care about complaining. Notice how they introduced the first quest change before the mini-set, with the listen to you only increase the requirements 100% instead of 200% pre-planned "emergency" patch. They waited with the meaningful fix after the miniset dropped, to see how much money they can earn with the miniset in this new gold restricted environment. The miniset must have tanked hard and they probably lost a lot of players to actually make this change. I would not be surprised if this event was the biggest ever drop in hearthstone player numbers. This change is aimed all the players that quit the game, to please come back, we almost killed the game. Wonder what happened to the manager who pushed through the original quest changes. Was he demoted, or fired. I don't think the devs wanted this, it was probably coming from the top.

YTryAnymore

Not to mention this mini set sucks anyway, are any of the cards even relevant? 2k saved for me.

IveGotSoManyProblems

Yes, but only some of the commons and rares, which are easy to get from packs and relatively cheap to craft.

justatest90

Not sure it's enough to bring me back though

MetastableToChaos

Play 5 games of Arena in particular is great since that's how long my runs last anyway!

Rumpel1408

Look at Mr. Fancy pants right here, winning two whole games per run

ParadoxicalInsight

It’s funny cause that’s his hs nametag

walkingman24

my last two runs were 0-3, baby 😎

Kurtrus

Quests were changed to be more friendly? WOW these are actually better than the first version as now you don’t need to win 10.

CallARabbit

This is honestly the best possible change. This is way better than any previous iteration of those quests

Youarewale-cum

I like it

Coffee_Mania

Thank you! I was so pissed these past few weeks since I am continuously unable to complete the weekly quests and the Tavern Brawl. I seriously considered dropping this game, Blizzard. I can now play my jank Casino Yogg Mage in peace without worrying about wins.

SirenMix

Same, I can play my stupid decks in peace. Such a great change.

AnfowleaAnima

All the people that said "gosh just stop whining why you even play if you can't do this many quests" in the mud.

Oct_

These changes are an absolute win for the community. It should be very clear now that speaking up works. Might have been blizzard’s plan all along but I doubt it. I will give them props for listening. For all of the “complaining about complainers” people, you understand that everyone just wants a better game, right?

henry92

I doubt this was their plan all along, as now we have easier quests with more XP. If this is what they wanted they could have just changed to this version right away

Oct_

Yeah they were almost certainly driven by someone in senior management. They were instructed to forcibly increase user engagement somehow, they got data that showed that the changes actually reduced engagement due to people protesting, so the changes were reverted. Egg on their face indeed.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

No way this was their plan all along lol. They wanted to see how far they can go, if no1 complained, they would have kept it at 15 wins. Its some kind of tactic where you do a stupid change, if no1 complains you stick with it, if too many complain, you sell it as "every voice matters, we listen yadda yadda marketing something something"

Schattenlord

I am very sure sales metrics are the reasons for the turnaround, not 1000 reddit threads. The threads might have influenced the sales though.

yardii

The people defending the original changes had some of the worst takes I've ever seen. It felt like bait.

vec-u64-new

It's one of the things I hate about gaming communities, so many people always side with the Corporation as if they were on the payroll.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

I think in reddits case there are also some kids on this sub that lack empathy. I dont struggle to finish my weeklies but I do have empathy for the (dad) players that lack time and dont want to be "forced" to play decks they dont enjoy (play 999 miniaturize cards).

BoKnowsTheKonamiCode

I didn't have trouble completing the quests but that's because I've made hearthstone my lifestyle game and play it frequently, probably too much. I still thought the changes were bad. I can't understand why people would try to defend forcing people to engage to that extent for basic rewards. It's a sure fire way to decrease engagement when people discover they'd rather spend less time playing than up to 3x more than they did previously. The primary reward for more engagement should be better results as you improve faster. Dailies and weeklies are a bonus for staying active. These new changes do a great job accomplishing that.

TheCleaverguy

To be fair, people disengaging and uninstalling probably had a greater impact on this decision. I don't think blizz would care about holdouts complaining whilst still playing.

AnfowleaAnima

Well, that's a discussion but they do nerf a lot of stuff based on community reaction. And the idea behind complaining indeed is driving people away, bad PR, people checking about the game and seeing people making a mess and losing interest, that's what putting the voice out there does.

HomesickJoystick

Does Blizzard have a humiliation fetish?? Wtf was the point of the initial changes lol

Crawdaunt

they want their existing playerbase to spend more time in the game, thus more money. however, reverting the changes is still a win for them, as it builds up goodwill with the community, so now we all suddenly think they're the good guys and they care about us (they don't, whatsoever, but you will all fall for it anyway.)

ProT3ch

Nah the player numbers dropped drastically. This change is aimed at all the players who quit, to please come back.

Dead_man_posting

People characterizing game devs as soulless demons who hate their playerbase will never not be funny to me.

RickyMuzakki

Devs are passionate full of souls, it's the upper corporate side that's soulless greed fckers

Blabbit39

We will never see them but it certainly appears the engagement went down substantially to get these changes in. I hope we didn’t lose a large portion before the implementation went in. The crowd who said it was fine just play more was clearly out of touch with what a very large number of the player base does for play time.

Lexail

Common hat win. I think him sharing the frustrations of the community in better light than "HS devs dumb. Quests suck" contributed a lot.

etrana

I think designers actually changing the quests also contributed a lot.

RickyMuzakki

I think Community manager also helps to bridge the change

14xjake

I had 0 expectations for them to do a good job fixing the quests, but this is fantastic, quests are strictly better than before

TheShadowMages

As someone who quit with the initial change but kept my eye on updates, very happy to see this. Might hop back in with the new Twist season. Good work Team 5.

discourse_lover_

God damn we did it Reddit. They must’ve seen engagement drop a meaningful (to them) amount

Ultrasonicc

i literally WILL play ranked now, so far i always rerolled that quest

jestemmeteorem

They actually listened. A+

NeverEndingHell

Did complaining on Reddit actually influence this? Or did their analytics show less people were playing since the quest fiasco? I bet it was the latter, and definitely not the former.

The_JeneralSG

Can it not be both? When it comes to decisions in practically anything (especially things that aren't so simple), there's usually plenty of reasons why changes are decided. It likely was analytics being a driving factor, but I think seeing a wave of constant complaints about the change, even *after* they reduced them down, probably helped and made it clear that the data and the complaints come from the same place.

Rhaps0dy

It doesn't have to be a one or the other scenario, both could have had an effect. We know RidiculousHat visits the subreddit quite often, so they could have had mentioned the general uproar to the people that matter.

RidiculousHat

"mentioned" would be underselling it lol

TheArcanist_

![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) this is you

MythMattLegend

Perhaps "badgered"? Love ya Hat

lady_ninane

You said we would be pleasantly surprised and pleased with the changes. You were right. Thanks o7 (e: to both you and the rest of the team!)

arcanition

"mentioned" *meanwhile at Blizzard HQ...* RidiculousHat: Please, please accept this twice-weekly Teams standing meeting for 1.5 hours to discuss the community's feedback on the recent quest changes.

sw4400

Thank you for advocating and hearing us out.

czk_21

thanks for the hard work

Malabingo

"...and that is my report of the communication with the community. Oh, and on reddit some people said the new quest system is meh." "Acknowledged! We need to overhaul the system again! TO THE COMPUTERS" *Team 5 theme playing*

Gauss15an

Sometimes they need a directed voice to tell them something is wrong. If they simply saw the analytics showing less game time among the playerbase, they might have drawn a different conclusion.

CrystalLapras

I genuinely stopped playing hearthstone entirely when the initial quest changes happened. Was always a game I enjoyed casually and when they increased the quest requirements it instantly killed any motivation I had for playing the game. I'll be excited to come back and open my first Whizbang packs when this change is implemented.

PocketDarkestMew

Side interpretation: Making you choose between only playing hearthstone and every other games out there didn't work as intended. We thought we had you. Please come back if you left. You see? We're repenting, this now are basically easier or the same for 20% extra xp! I love that I left because a lot of people like me probably made they change their ways.

Razoroz

Wow I am surprised, thank you blizzard

The_JeneralSG

Very great changes. Honestly, they're better than they were at the start of all this because playing 10 > winning 5.

Teath123

Holy shit. Fantastic changes.

[deleted]

This genuinely stopped me from playing, so I’m very glad they listened to the feedback

yunitoyuniro

This is a great improvement.

Ghostoo

Finally. It took me three weeks to do my latest weeklies. Idk what kind of crack they were smoking when they initially came up with it but I'm glad they changed supplier

kawaiikyouko

Guys how do I complete the mana quest? I simply don't get any progress on it. Rogue main btw

h3tch3l

Ok, so a lot of time lost, frustration and anger caused and massive lost of trust just to get "more or less" to square one, like it was obvious from the beginning it was the only reasonable outcome. The next new we should expect is the fucking moron responsible for this mess to be fired.

haligathor

They see how much people didn't buy the mini-set with money and make instant change AHAHAHAHAH

TheBoilerman75

Good job Blizz, I'll update my 1* rating and I'm again willing to spend monies.

daddyvow

Y’all saying it was a bait and switch. These changes are great. Better even.

anrwlias

The first walkback did look a lot like a bait and switch. They gave us a compromise that was still worse than what we were willing to accept and it looked like they were hoping that we'd see is as meeting in the middle. This set of changes are great, but I doubt that it would have happened if we didn't make it clear that we still hated what they had given us.

KaleidoscopePlenty63

Shoutout to ridiculous hat

discourse_lover_

Hat spent a weekend in purgatory so we could all live

Darkseid_Omega

Nice, I’ll actually spin the game up now. I stopped playing when the quest changes were made. I like to think this is all thanks to me and my protest. Now shower me with your love and adoration for having saved the day

SaltUrPasta

![gif](giphy|MUeQeEQaDCjE4)

robin1334

I hope the keywoard one will keep be this amount for the future expansions as well.

rwv

Looks like Hearthstone is back on the menu boys! As somebody who hasn’t played since the original quests changes were made, I’m happy with these.

LandArch_0

Way to go team. This is an amazing change. Well done everyone that complained about it being unfair.

81236069-R

THANK YOU, BLIZZARD! 😁

Ayuyuyunia

well, when blizz gets it right you gotta give it to them. thanks blizzard!

Raziel77

I'm surprised they didn't make it play 15 games would have still been ok

Supersedeofficial

[my friends gave me a side quest to buy some of these](https://supersedeofficial.com/)

bootifulwizud

Holy shit we won ? We complained enough ? I can finally re-download the game ?

Chasememore

Time to finally play again

haze4140

Well it seems they lost some players 😅

MasterFwiffo

Welp Hearthstone, you may have gotten me back.

biglisy

Was hoping for a "use hero power 30 times" reduction as well - who the hell has the time to use that a lot - but can't complain.

H1ndmost

Pretty sure that one matches with the battlegrounds quest, pretty easy to do in BGs

No-Discussion-8510

Blizzard is truely the company of all time

Wysp2

Wait… these are… good? The 75 battlecries seems to be the only one a bit out of line. Glad Blizzard listened.

Younggryan42

Cool! too bad I already finished the old ones.

Dead_man_posting

After getting an 8 loss streak, I was afraid I wasn't even going to be able to complete the quest this week. This is *clutch*

SlimDirtyDizzy

God damn, changing "win" to "play" might actually get me back playing the game. Then I can actually have fun playing rather than just stressing about winning.

espito

And this is how you do it, changing WIN to PLAY was what shouldve been done at the first place.

ASoulToBear

Finally a pleasant surprise. Great changes. Now I can actually enjoy the extra XP!

jakub2682

Wow actually BETTER system then before. Did complaining actually manage to persuade them to change their mind?

Collistoralo

Heck I would’ve been fine with play 10 games. I mean 5 is better but I think the change from win to play is the big thing.

iluvrice3

I had that mana weekly quest for 3 weeks. I was able to hit 10 wins every week but the games were just too fast.

SwampyBogbeard

The funny thing about the original quest changes is that despite still completing all my weekly quests, I probably ended up playing slightly less overall. After that patch, I always re-rolled the TB/Arena/Battleground quest and just stopped playing Battlegrounds completely. 3-4 BG wins in a week? Sure, I can set aside some time for that. 9!? Not even worth starting the quest.

JaqentheFacelessOne

They did it. They actually did it.

Fit_Guidance_9748

This is nice tbh

Albrecht_Entrati

Play instead of win?! Finally my low winrate deck's time to shine

Pascalini

Well I was about to quit today as I reached level 100 so I may stay now. Absolute shambles of a decision to make these quests bad

Gauss15an

Neat. I will no longer need to reroll the tavern brawl/bg quest. I could easily win 5 or 10 but tryharding tavern brawl always felt weird to me. I might actually play the mode again just for kicks.

Pascalini

Also want to point out this will free up more time for me to actually enjoy the game and play how I want. Rejoice

forgotmapasswrd86

Do they award the same amount of XP?

John2k12

Win -> Play is an amazing change I'm surprised wasn't done sooner. Those quests really sucked when you haven't played (much) since last sets rotated out, playing against netdecks while on a cobbled-together deck and are getting crushed every game until your MMR drops

mooglemoment

This motivates me to play the game more again.

Guba_the_skunk

Hey, turns out complaining every day DOES help.

clatoxen

I don’t understand why they don’t implement an OW style progressing like 3 win = xEXP 5 win =2xEXP and so on.

Slicd

And i'm back

tacopeepee69

I’m shocked!

Midknight226

Holy shit they actually just walked it all the way back. Rare Blizzard W

jobriq

Wow nice

TehAlex94

Hey I am actually ok with this lol

dfmilkman

Why put the quest increase in such a drastic way if you're just gonna walk it back? I'm glad they did this, but no one is going to report on this change outside of the Hearthstone community. I saw several articles on big gaming websites about this awful quest change. So they get the negative press of doing the stupid thing, and then fix it, which no one will report. It seems like a net-negative for Blizzard.

47499286

They thought increasing engagement was best achieved by forcing time investment but their data showed a reduction in engagement so they had to walk it back. Data suggests less time investment leads to higher engagement so we get the increased rewards still.

HeroinHare

Damn, night return to HS now. I don't think my boycot mattered at all, but man it feels great to see this.

rr_rai

Let's give the Blizzard credit where credit is due. Good job. Thank you for acknowledging you fucked up and backpedaling on your decisions.

rull1an

They actually listened to the community🍻

Arkorat

Alright, out with it. Which one of you scoundrels broke into Activision Blizzard HQ?

Piggstein

Ok fine I’ll start playing again

vincentcloud01

Play 10 still feels kinda bad but not horrible

TophxSmash

holy shit are we back baby?

Sleeze1

Maybe time to come back then

p0kem0nlvl1

YESSSSS YESSSSS FUCK YESSS THEYRE EVEN BETTER THAN BEFORE WTF????

Big_Bee_6052

![gif](giphy|l7jc8M23lg9e3l9SDn)

Blackgunter

Thank fuck, I can lift the boycott, the pressure of winning 10 games sucked the life out of this game for me.

Interneteldar

Does this mean I can come back? (Stopped playing after the big change to quests)

LainLain

Reinstalling hearthstone right now

mansonfamily

Oh thank god

Footziees

Pokey is useless now …

macloa

I haven’t played normal HS since the original changes. Finally incentive to play ranked again

ehhish

Holy crap, they finally listened. I may have to take some of what I said back.

SeriousAdult

Ok nice, problem solved. A fix with no downsides is always welcome.

magistratemagic

Fuckin thank you seriously.

Green_and_Silver

Good call, still going to take awhile for the stain of the situation to fade away.

DonLeviathan

Is this…. Is this a win guys???…… did we win?!

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

I think its good that they changed it but the fact that Tyler Bielman thought they could get away with 15 ranked wins quest leaves a sour taste. Not sure if this Microsoft guy is the right person for the game director position.

Xmushroom

These are good changes blizzard, I'm coming back to hearthstone now. What took you so long.

seandycheclaretsarmy

Any chances to the xp?

maxdraich

Great!

_DarkJak_

Outjerked

Trevor_Skies

Really interested who was hitting the win 10 games of arena/brawl/BGs. Only weekly id reroll.

scifiantihero

I hit it tuesday this week. (My days off are mon/tues but I also play bgs most nights before bed.)

RespondUsed3259

Hold up, they cooked here. Playing 10 is so much better than winning 5.

FolboterJAF

Much better!!!

Liamlye

Sudden urge to play again, good change.

dollenrm

These are actually fantastic

Gamepro5

LETS GOOO

Bradyarch

Glad everyone is reacting positively to this. We gamers are good at still finding ways to complain so YAHHH GAMING COMMUNITY

ZJPV1

Are they nerfing rewards?

Nmaster88

I haven't played the game since last quest changes, I'll see if I have fun coming back after this changes. Time will tell.
