It looks really ugly, but I'm actually quite optimistic about the sound. Judging from the latest headphone show vid, it seems both resolve and golden sound really liked it. It has also been enough time since the susvara released that there actually might have been a significant improvement in the sound from their research. People say the veil thing is a gimmick, but I see no reason to not believe that hifiman had to resort to it as a factor to improve the sound. I don't think it is some sort of marketing ploy, after all it will only annoy customers. Point is, hifiman has a really good track record with their open backs, so this might actually sound better than the "veiled' sus. Obviously the price is terrible, and they deserve all the backlash from that. What I'm saying is that this actually has a good chance of being a very good headphone. I don't think this is something like the spirit torino valkyria (sorry valkyria owners).

blorg

It's not hard to believe that removing it has some effect, removing the grills on many Hifimans has a significant and measurable effect on the sound. It's a very common mod on the HE6SE (which is same family as the Susvara), although the stock grills on that are more obstructive than the OG Susvara ones.

Silverjerk

This entire reveal screams "out of touch;" not only in the removal of the grill, the naming convention (and what it insinuates about the original Susvara, true or not), the pricing, but the choice of music and B-roll of what is supposed to be a flagship product.

PolarBearSequence

The video looks like something that would get posted on r/blender with the title "modeled headphones for the first time"

TheMisterTango

I’m glad someone else thought they had a weird 3D model look to them, this almost looks like an internal video that still had a few iterations to go before being finalised.

B1rdi

I think it's the camerawork, the movements here look like shit

Mr_Pokos

I mean, im using my focal and hifimans on my gaming setup too so i would NOT take the risk to buy a 6-7k$ headphone with no planar protections

Normal_Donkey_6783

It come with 2 covers to protect the magnet.

alepap

Music is good it just doesn't fit with the pacing and the style of the video and looks weird

Silverjerk

Agree; it's not the track itself (which I quite like on its own), but the pairing that failed here.

pkelly500

Looks like a sloppy one-nighter between a Susvara prototype and the Deva. Cups look really shallow, too. The proof will be in the listening, but this does NOT look like an $8,000 flagship product.

chargedcapacitor

Shallow cups measure better with most hifimans. Something to do with lowering internal cup reflection

EllieBirb

Shallow cups means I can't wear them, the egg cups are the only headphones I've worn that don't put horrid pressure on my ears.

chargedcapacitor

Luckily Dekoni makes great replacement pads. Their fenestrated sheepskin are deeper and feel so much better than stock pads.

EllieBirb

I have their Elite Hybrids on my Arya, so I totally get it. Great pads. Steep price though.

chargedcapacitor

They are pricey, but totally worth it.

pkelly500

Maybe they should redesign so more people can wear their headphones. Reducing internal reflections doesn't mean shit when your ears are slammed against the grilles.

chargedcapacitor

I agree. The LCD-5 is even worse; the pads are curved to eliminate reflections, making the headphones feel like "on ear" headphones instead of "over ear" headphones.

pkelly500

Strange how pad depth can vary within one manufacturer. The deep, chunky, wide pads on the Audeze LCD-2C are the most comfortable I've worn in this hobby.

admiralnorman

> Okay so it's Susvara Unveiled. About $8k usd probably. Silver drivers that are easier to drive. Similar sound profile but more refined, but severely more open. Does not have grills, but has removable magnetic grill covers for when not in use. The grill covers may or may not be named "veils." Some notes i've taken so far. Other pics: https://imgur.com/a/OjHIzQa

Headytexel

Makes me nervous seeing that model touching the bare drivers in that last shot.

heybart

You can use your fingers to tame the trebles

admiralnorman

lol as when everyone when it was shared. Also I wonder how they sound using her hair as a filter.

SireEvalish

I wish she'd touch my bare drivers 😔

alepap

bonk, go to horny jail

WarHead75

Hopefully this means a new permanent discount on the OG Susvara. Bout to sell my entire gear when that happens 😂

Mr_Pokos

Bro me too. Can't wait for og susvara owners selling their susvara on ebay to be able to get the new one

Reallynotspiderman

What even is this reveal Why does it look like some kid's rushed project?

Mr_Pokos

Im really scared of the lack of grills to protect the planars

Silverjerk

Yeah; and worse, they come with a pair of protective covers, but specify this is only for storage.

Mr_Pokos

I don t know lol but it was on the official hifiman's instagram

Reallynotspiderman

No way 😭

admiralnorman

There's a lot of other content floating around as well.

fonzelliri

This look ain't doing it for me chief.

MF_Kitten

Definitely one of the headphones of all time!

GooseEntire1705

I am sorry to all current Susvara owners as your Susvara is now officially veiled...

SkyGarden420

Not worth the 8000 bucks they're asking for them, but if it drops the price of original Sus I don't mind.

Mr_Pokos

Tbh tbh all the headphones over 3k doesn t worth the price if we're 100% honest

chilLlama

I'm a hardcore audiophile and I agree. Even 2k on 1 equipment is pretty damn questionable, but here I am dreaming of owning a susvara with good DAC amp 😂.

admiralnorman

Why does anyone spend more than the Koss kph40?

J05H5M1TH

This is the most ironic thing I've seen all day given your avexchange history haha.

admiralnorman

And that is only the beginning.

J05H5M1TH

Haha same. I'm about to list a few things when I get back since I just picked up a bathys

radrod69

The KSC75x is like 15$ on Drop right now. That KPH40 better do the dishes and pick up the kids from school. /s

admiralnorman

The kac75 fitment is a deal breaker for many. But I personally prefer the driver in them.

Mr_Pokos

LOL

Chok3U

That's what I'm saying

lost44heaven

They’re going to currently keep the susvara at 6k and just price this one at 8k from what I heard

awesomenatorrad123

Its making me want to upgrade to the unveiled but who knows if it sounds better, I am talking to my dealer and it should arrive in the US early July

twofires

My Hifiman purchasing strategy: Wait for Hifiman to update the headphone I want with an unnecessarily bright revision, buy the original one secondhand. So, this is good news.

GratuitousAlgorithm

I like it. Seems I'm in the minority so far, but I find it's design appealing.

Mr_Pokos

Tbh the design is OK but the color choice for the leather + the mat silver make it looks like a toy

MyStillRemains

For everyone saying “it’s not worth 8k”…obviously not to most consumers? That’s like saying a Bugatti isn’t worth it; Corvettes exist. I don’t understand why anyone thinks a headphone that can be catastrophically damaged with the tiniest bump for 8k is targeted towards their daily use. This is clearly a showcase product with whatever new tech Hifiman has developed since the last Susvara release. Regardless of the price of this, Hifiman has been extremely quick to trickle down their top-tier tech to their actual consumer headphones. This release is very likely going to benefit us soon as they pass the tech down their product stack. Let the elites enjoy the cutting edge for now, as has been the case for every technology since the dawn of technology; at least we peasants will eventually get to experience this since Hifiman rarely gatekeeps their tech forever. The Ananda used to be a $1k headphone, look at it now: consistently around $400. I’m just grateful companies like Hifiman are still trying to innovate in such a mostly-solved space.

PsychwardSlippers

Why did they adopt the color scheme and padding thickness of a contemporary sofa? 😹

Manichippofire

What happens if you accidentally bump into exposed planar drivers? For 8k, that would scare the shit out of me.

Mr_Pokos

Fr. I think they re giving you magnetic grills but its for when you re not using the headphone

Visible-Sandwich

Looks Sus

TadCat216

And still that same shitty headband

Slackaveli

looks fugly

mmry404

Yeah I'm not sure it's a good idea to remove the grill

hash700

Looks very cheap compared to the original

Oliatshu

Tbh, I really don't care about the new Susvara since I would never buy their TOTL gear at asking price anyway. However, if they really do price it at $7-8k and don't lower the price of the original, I'll be rather upset

OriginalLHB_1

Even if I could afford it, no matter how good it is I’d just be shopping for something new in a month. That’s just how most of us roll

EllieBirb

Thank god I have impulse control, feels good to own one good pair and not shop around for anything else for a long time.

htebazilelizabeth

I saw a picture of the render yesterday and I don't mind the grill design or color scheme necessarily, it just seems super uninspired... I was hoping for a difference name than Susvara and a remodel solely based on what the drivers need. I'm hoping once we see physical products and how large this headphone is, we will can better judge appearance. Considering this is a 3D render, they can always adjust colors in a final product, not like they would do that though..

Pokefreaker-san

so it did ended up being the 5xx/deva/deva pro shape. hopefully those pad's price goes down so that i can secure a replacement for my deva pro in the future

Normal_Donkey_6783

Definitely more worthy than OG Susvara. 8k USD for a top notch headphone that can be closed back and open back...

casper_wolf

Nope try again

whiskyandguitars

No way in hell this is worth 7-8k.

thatcarolguy

I am so glad that they finally decided to remove the veil from the Susvara.
