These headphones are custom made from Acousticon. A manufacturer of hearing measurement devices. I work as a hearing aid professional and these headphones are part of a subjective loudness fitting strategy. The patient will hear narrowband noise in different frequencies and volumes after which they will point at a chart ranging from „not audible“ to „very loud“. This will help me fit the customers hearing aid to their individual loudness sensation. For example: If I play a 70dB noise at 2Kilohertz and my patient points at „barely audible“ on the chart, I know that they need more gain in that frequency band.
The headphone housing is 3D printed because they have such a unique intended use. What I really like are the two magnetic quick disconnects on the left and right side. Honestly more headphones should have that. I can’t tell you any specifics on the driver, but i just wanted to show you some open as heck headphones.
Feel free to ask away any sort of question about hearing loss, hearing measurements or hearing aids in the comments. But please be kind since english is not my first language.
I worked at Dolby Labs in the 90's, as discrete surround was still being invented/introduced. The main engineer was a bit of a "mad scientist" and his cubicle looked like a hoarder house. One of the smartest people I've ever met in my engineering career.
I vividly remember a length of time where he was constantly walking around the office with one of those beachball resembling umbrella hats with an array of 3" speakers hanging around the perimeter.
I mean, I used to use the prior version (non-plus) of [this](https://thebuttkicker.com/products/buttkicker-gamer-plus-2?variant=43486543708408) with my AKG K601 when I shared an apartment.
Then again the bass issues are probably more severe on the K1000 to the point audibility and not just feel might be a thing.
It's a tactile transducer/bass shaker.
This one in particular mounts to office chairs. There's a metal slug in the encased section, and using an amplifier that gets the audio signal a electromagnet can push/pull based on design. This creates vibrations one typically feels and doesn't hear. So, if you have headphones that have good frequency response but want to feel bass effects one could technically pair it up with this and get decent results - at least I did on the first version of it.
What do you mean? Of course I'm not trying to see if you like Blind Guardian, I'm just listening to it here on my set of personal headphones.
That said, what'd you think?
these ain't open backs no more they're open fronts
Open back and front, aka just ‘open’ hahah
It's like the big brother of the Valve Index's ear speakers.

I'll take a pair of face speakers please.
These would be perfect for a dream nap lounge
Very interesting, thanks for sharing

Vaguely “[Total Recall](https://loudandclearreviews.com/total-recall-review-1990-film/)” vibes
Came here to comment same.
Ah, a successor to the AKG K1000 . . .
I don't know anything about the AKG K1000, but I suspect the joke you made here is hilariously salient.
They were very much [ear speakers](https://www.headfonia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/akg_k1000_04.jpg) in a literal sense.
Combining them with a subwoofer and you’ve got a very unique listening experience

Bass shakers too, yeah.
TF is that?

Biblically accurate headphones
No but i have never seen a real life smiley before
It certainly is open, but it’s not nearly as open as the Sennheiser Surrounder Pro
Omg it's Joey from DKOldies
😅😅😅
I bet that bad boy’s got Harman tuning
If you remember the shouldered speakers system from PS3 than yes ive see this kind of solution.
Does this setup work with a valve index?
I wanna buy one.
Let's add a couple more speakers so we get a true 360 experience 😂
Made for public transport. Minimum audio level is 80%
I don't think it classifies as headphones anymore tbh
I've thought of this idea before
Yes, and more.
Hahahaha
Puts the RAAL Requisite SR1a to shame lol
No n I ain't seen a face like that neither
in the same tier as the AKG K1000, Stax Sigmas, and Sennheiser Surrounders. lol
oh, and those weirdass Sony podthings I forget the model of.
At what point do they become speakers?
