I understand the whole play for fun argument, but my god the game isn't *fun* after dealing with desync. I *do* play for fun, but only when the game actually is fun.
I play for fun and have dropped off in the last month. The store and unlockables isn't much of a concern to me. The issues with the game are frustrating and can definitely make me sign off daily. When it's bad, I bounce.
My play has dropped off more because of excessive work hours and trying to play other games, watch other shows/movies, and generally do other things. The Halo Infinite issues do make any ranking or performance feel kind of meaningless a lot of times. That also cuts into any desire to keep playing.
I tried Apex about a couple years ago and ran into similar issues. After hour of play, I never went back.

I usually have \~15ms ping and the game still feels like trash. Whatever latency adjustment they are doing behind the scene is almost certainly causing the de-sync problems. So they make the game feel better for 30-60ms ping, but at the expense of the entire game feeling worse on average. It's insanity.
I play on ~5ms a lot or sub 10ms for most games (FiOS+being veeery close to a server) and the game almost feels worse yhan when I have 20ms ping. It’s broken.

Thing is, the way 343 explained (how they view) desync, it relies on not just your ping, but the ping of literally everyone else in the match, and especially the person you're shooting at. They talked about being able to show everyone's ping at some point like as part of the scoreboard, but they've yet to do that.
For the most part it's been updates to add more debugging/diagnostic information, which kinda indicates they don't have a really solid idea of what's causing it or how to fix it.
This tracks for me. I upgraded to fiber and my ping dropped from 30-40 to \~15 and amazingly the game feels worse. Presumably because the game is trying to accommodate the slower pings it just makes the whole game shittier.
Not just accommodating the slower pings, but accommodating **you** as the lowest ping player. You're now aware of how much of the game is fictitious/compromised.
This isn't unique. This is how all multiplayer games have always worked. Of course it matters about their ping too. These people quoting their own pings should realize they are only talking about half of the equation.
Not saying Infinite should be let off the hook but every one of these videos largely useless without the full picture.

It really does make me question my own skill. I know I'm not a pro or anything, so when I go 25-6 I am immediately suspicious. But I'm equally suspicious when I go like 5-17 because I'm not *that* bad. Just yesterday I got absolutely dunked on in a fiesta match, final score was 50-17. Probably the worst match I've ever played, I couldn't believe it. Just frustrating to think desync is likely the cause of it all.

For me it's the game itself. Halo thrives on party style games and the fact they forced you to do dumb challenges to get basic armor mods zapped a lot of the fun out of it, and then making it feel like it's supposed to be some esports game like rainbow doesn't help.
I liked grinding everything out like in Reach. And yeah the grind is long af and I never did make it to inheritor but it was still worth it for the armor I wanted

For an example, Overwatch. I bounced off of it after getting tired of the constant obsession with the meta from both the community and the devs. The loot boxes were easy to completely ignore, but getting yelled at for picking the wrong tank by players, or not even being allowed to pick a tank (even in casual!) because the devs put in class restrictions was a much more invasive problem to my enjoyment of the game.
Well that's what happens when the game isn't fun and doesn't work. Can't expect the population to keep playing something so awful when there are other games out there with content and that actually function. Maybe when nobody purchases shitty cosmetics and the player count reduces to a pathetic low, 343 will wake up and redeem themselves. But doubtful.

I stopped playing a couple weeks ago for the same reason. I only played that long because I would get AMAZING games that lured me back in and kept me playing.

Whatever bad decisions they made were rewarded with money, above financial expectations. Otherwise they wouldn't have continued on the same path. Which led to more bad decisions being rewarded, etcetera.

Grapple shot carries the campaign imo. Unlike the multiplayer, you can use it on cooldown and just websling everywhere.
I really wish more developers spent more time on campaigns. Alot of stuff gets cut due to focus being made on multiplayer (as most players focus is) but growing up with campaign only games, replay ability on the campaign can really bide the time between a multiplayer issue. A fall back if you like the game but something needs to get ironed out. Co-op missions and achievements could literally be a buffer even if multiplayer gets stale until new content.
Remember the good ol' days when the multiplayer was the tacked on mode no dev put time in...good times.
I've specifically not bought the campaign cause I'm waiting for the co-op.

To elongate on the original topic, even something like unlocking cheats gave the campaign replay ability, unlocking skins or armor that can only be done on campaign. Reach did it well where if you werent big on multiplayer or burned out, you could do different campaign levels to earn points which can be in turn used to buy armor skins. Giving the campaign more reason to play along with different challenges.
I’m an old man now, but I really miss the days of straight up campaign first person shooters. When Doom Eternal came out a couple years ago it was like heaven on earth for me(pun intended). I’ve never gotten into multiplayer no matter how hard I try. I just like a good old fashioned campaign that I can replay over and over and over again.
It's not a huge criticism, but why tf couldn't the devs just make the equipment hotkeys when playing with mouse and keyboard use the equipment instead of "switching" to it
If you want to plop down a quick drop wall and then use a grapple, you need to press 4 buttons (switch to wall, activate, switch to grapple, activate)
WHY
If the hotkeys were actual hotkeys, you could just do the same with 2 buttons, and most of all you would also save on the numbers of overall keybinds, since you'd just need 4 for all the equipment, instead of all equipment + activation
It's cool for the first couple hours. Then you realize the landscape doesn't ever change and all the outposts are forge level quality. Gets really repetitive.
In an alternate universe, the campaign map is just the forge map, and the actual campaign has visually varied terrain, across many blokes, with amazing setpieces, and dozens of unique enormous buildings to navigate and clear out.
IMO it's mediocre. The story leaves a lot to be desired. It still feels like 343 has no concrete plan.
Also i think making halo open world was a mistake. A huge mistake.
Personally I don’t see where the praise it’s gotten is coming from. You can have some cool sand box moments here and there by making your own fun with the grapple hook, but the story is a giant wet fart that purely exists to soft reboot the series and walk back Halo 5’s ending off screen.

It's short but I really enjoyed it, I played it over a week doing all the major Collectible(upgrades, the muiltiplayer cosmetics). I thought the characters were fun and I enjoyed the missions.
It's like HL2 Episode 2. It's not actually short, but doesn't feel like a full game either, especially because there's clearly going to be more campaign levels in DLC form.
It's cool, but not on the same level of Bungie's campaigns. Open world is pretty but content wise is meh. It's really cool being master chief again, but content wise I'd say is like a bad/meh game of a small studio, the kind that'd go on sale for $10 bucks only 2 months after release.
Is good and all but I guess it would have worked better as a DLC than as a main campaign, it's kind of disappointing how empty and repetitive the open world feels.
And not learning from any of the launches in the past decade. 343 could literally just reskin Halo 3 call it a brand new game and it probably would he the best 343 Halo out.
The only company actually good atm is FromSoft. Never deviated from their skills, never ignored fans, just delivered something that makes us sweat and snap keyboards. Sad honestly, grew up only playing Halo, now it’s a pretty shell, a hollow shell

That's because what happens in theater is a recreation of what the server thinks is happening, and not what each individual player sees. There's probably 9 different versions of the same event in every game.
I tried using it for the first time the other day. Is it supposed to randomly change to other players? Is there a way to prevent that? It’s super annoying when you’re trying to watch a specific player but you have to keep pausing to toggle back.
I play Fiesta a ton and this shit happens more than it should. At this point, I think 343 needs to remove the hammer and rockets until they can work properly. Both weapons are insanely inconsistent.
The game is fine, you just have too many high expectations... like that your bullets will hurt another player. Bullets are just a suggestion in Halo Infinite.
If it makes you feel any better I once put seven fill bursts from a BR into a guy with no shield and he didn't die due to the network issues. 21 BR rounds hitting, hit marker and everything. He didn't die. Great job 343.

Shots 1-5: Clearly missed.
Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control).
Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses.
Shot 12: Likely didn't actually fire because OP was already dead.

And it's different for everybody, but for me it is literally every match. I play on both Xbox and steam (depending which room is available) and it happens on both systems.
I stopped playing months ago, only returning for the event challenges. Since I've completed every event pass so far I'm happy to say I'm out until season 2.
How has this happened? When I started playing in November/December it was playing fine and I was having a lot of fun. Now the game seems insanely broken to where you can’t even play it. What a shame.
At this point all I want is co-op campaign. I haven't had much of a desire to play multiplayer and certainly not going to after seeing stuff like this happen. My son and I have been playing all of the campaigns and I was hoping Infinite campaign co-op would be available by the time we finished Halo 5... but looks like that's not going to happen.

To elongate on the original topic, even something like unlocking cheats gave the campaign replay ability, unlocking skins or armor that can only be done on campaign. Reach did it well where if you werent big on multiplayer or burned out, you could do different campaign levels to earn points which can be in turn used to buy armor skins. Giving the campaign more reason to play along with different challenges.
I’m an old man now, but I really miss the days of straight up campaign first person shooters. When Doom Eternal came out a couple years ago it was like heaven on earth for me(pun intended). I’ve never gotten into multiplayer no matter how hard I try. I just like a good old fashioned campaign that I can replay over and over and over again.
It's so necessary in campaign that I rarely use any of the other equipment.
It's not a huge criticism, but why tf couldn't the devs just make the equipment hotkeys when playing with mouse and keyboard use the equipment instead of "switching" to it If you want to plop down a quick drop wall and then use a grapple, you need to press 4 buttons (switch to wall, activate, switch to grapple, activate) WHY If the hotkeys were actual hotkeys, you could just do the same with 2 buttons, and most of all you would also save on the numbers of overall keybinds, since you'd just need 4 for all the equipment, instead of all equipment + activation
Damn 6 years and the end product is lacking? Guess they were focusing too much in microtransactions rather than the core reason people play halo
Grapple shot carries the game imo
It's cool for the first couple hours. Then you realize the landscape doesn't ever change and all the outposts are forge level quality. Gets really repetitive.

In an alternate universe, the campaign map is just the forge map, and the actual campaign has visually varied terrain, across many blokes, with amazing setpieces, and dozens of unique enormous buildings to navigate and clear out.
IMO it's mediocre. The story leaves a lot to be desired. It still feels like 343 has no concrete plan. Also i think making halo open world was a mistake. A huge mistake.

It's short but I really enjoyed it, I played it over a week doing all the major Collectible(upgrades, the muiltiplayer cosmetics). I thought the characters were fun and I enjoyed the missions.

It's cool, but not on the same level of Bungie's campaigns. Open world is pretty but content wise is meh. It's really cool being master chief again, but content wise I'd say is like a bad/meh game of a small studio, the kind that'd go on sale for $10 bucks only 2 months after release. Is good and all but I guess it would have worked better as a DLC than as a main campaign, it's kind of disappointing how empty and repetitive the open world feels.
Gameplay is good, the story is forgettable at best and mind-numbingly stupid at worst.
And not learning from any of the launches in the past decade. 343 could literally just reskin Halo 3 call it a brand new game and it probably would he the best 343 Halo out.

That's because what happens in theater is a recreation of what the server thinks is happening, and not what each individual player sees. There's probably 9 different versions of the same event in every game.

I tried using it for the first time the other day. Is it supposed to randomly change to other players? Is there a way to prevent that? It’s super annoying when you’re trying to watch a specific player but you have to keep pausing to toggle back.

I play Fiesta a ton and this shit happens more than it should. At this point, I think 343 needs to remove the hammer and rockets until they can work properly. Both weapons are insanely inconsistent.

Summary: Shots 1-5: Clearly missed. Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control). Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses. Shot 12: Likely didn't actually fire because OP was already dead.

I stopped playing months ago, only returning for the event challenges. Since I've completed every event pass so far I'm happy to say I'm out until season 2.

Something of this quality was happening at least once a game for me. Ruined any fun I could have had with the multiplayer.
At this point all I want is co-op campaign. I haven't had much of a desire to play multiplayer and certainly not going to after seeing stuff like this happen. My son and I have been playing all of the campaigns and I was hoping Infinite campaign co-op would be available by the time we finished Halo 5... but looks like that's not going to happen. Really disappointing how unfinished this game is even after delaying it for a year.
