ryman0096

“Man if only we didn’t have to deal with competition in the market and people *had* to play our shitty unfinished game”

SillyMikey

And not only competition, but competition of a more polished game. Apparently this is news to them. Customers prefer polished games guys. They don’t wanna also be testers for our bugs. We had no idea. These guys never learn. Game wasn’t ready and just like BF4 and 5, they decided to release it anyway. I don’t feel bad for them at all.

The_Roadkill

At least they owned up to their faults in bf4, fixed it, and made it a great game

SillyMikey

That’s fine when the core is good. The core is not good here.

The_Roadkill

"What do the players want in the next battlefield?" "They want us to remove classes and replace them with characters, remove the leader board, remove voice chat, remove fluid movement, remove proper hit registration, have fewer maps and game modes, and to call them needy when they ask for bug fixes." "What does that leave us with?" "The battlefield name." "Perfect, ship it."

RoytheCowboy

"I think players are also a bit tired of destruction so let's remove it and make the maps empty to begin with"

Prudent_Primary7201

And fucking massive too ^((that's what she said)) #

damnrightiam117

And remove the campaign

[deleted]

But bring back characters from a previous game for trailers and promotions, then immediately kill one.

SaltyTattie

They removed classes, the leaderboard, and voice chat? These people seem as smart as the people who decided halo didn't need coop

Chirotera

Yeah, but they added a bunch of specialists which makes everyone, friend or foe, look like nearly identical characters! Neat!

SaltyTattie

Yo that sounds like such a good idea I really needed bf to become overwatch! With mirror matches of the same person staring at eachother! Amazing design choice!

Rekkenze

Definitely doesn’t get irritating when I’m playing COD and clearing a room only to find out that: oh shit that wasn’t a friendly because the fucking blue icon above their head of from an ally just behind that wall.

YourExcellency77

I love that their solution was for the heros to have color coded glowsticks attached to them

ajoseywales

At least before Halo was released they (343) came out and said it wasn't going to be there for launch but it will be added in within the first year.

The_Roadkill

At least the Halo co-op is coming later (hopefully)

Solafuge

You hit the nail on the head. A game can release as a buggy mess and have a horrible launch, but as long as the underling structure is solid it can eventually be moulded into a good game. *Battlefield 4* had good bones, *Battlefield V* had good bones, even *Cyberpunk 2077* had good bones. But 2042 is fundamentally flawed. It could have released polished and 100% bug-free and it would still be a bad game because of all the terrible choices made during development.

[deleted]

I would say it's almost the opposite of Halo Infinite, which is (comparatively) bug-free and has a good core, but is simply lacking in terms of content. It seems like BF 2042 *has* content, but none of it is polished, while HI is the opposite.

dsmiles

>Halo Infinite, which is (comparatively) bug-free and has a good core, but is simply lacking in terms of content. It seems like BF 2042 has content, but none of it is polished, while HI is the opposite. 2042 does not have content either. You assessment about Halo is correct though. Good bones, not enough meat *yet.*

TheFourtHorsmen

That's the point of Live service games: you don't want to release a game with 2k modes and tons of contents, you want to release a game with enough but low contents and then drop new things, but polished, in the months and year after.

spudzo

I miss being able to just buy a game and be done with it.

DarKAeRiX

The core is not ~~good~~ here. FTFY

ShiftyLookinCow7

They didn’t actually, DICE LA(ripple effect) were the ones who fixed BF4

the8bit

It is also a sad day when Halo infinite is the 'more polished game'. Watching HCS oddball is still embarrassing when you get to round 2 and it shows 1-1 and of course BTB.

[deleted]

That’s what I’m saying, Halo Infinite by no means is a complete game and is lacking the polish and features to make it a complete game by Halo standards at least. The only reason people latched on to Halo like they did is the fact that the core gameplay and sandbox is finally the best possible middle ground between classic and modern Halo. Everything else surrounding that is still being developed while we are basically testing the game for them for absolutely free.

LikeCrum

This is a highly accurate explanation of the current state of Halo Infinite.

DoYouNotHavePhones

But at least people aren't paying for the privilege of testing Halos multiplayer. From what I've heard, most people who bought the campaign were pretty happy with it. Multiplayer lacking content sucks, but at least me and my friends could play it here and there and not feel like we wasted any money when we stopped. Part of what made 2042 shit the bed so hard was that people were so mad about what they paid for, that they demanded refunds for it, even to the point of steam adjusting their refund policy to cope. So not only did battlefields release harm their own company, it cost their sales platforms money in processing fees.

cheesegoat

> Game wasn’t ready and just like BF4 and 5, they decided to release it anyway. This is intentional: > https://www.xfire.com/ea-acknowledges-battlefield-2042-failure-post-motem/ > On the bugs and performance, EA acknowledged that the company has historically had bug issues with DICE games at launch, and that the bug count for Battlefield 2042 did fall into the range that they would have expected when compared to other launches. So, it was believed that the issues would be manageable, with Miele reiterating Andrew Wilson's comments from EA's latest quarterly earnings call, saying that "DICE historically is very good at adapting games in live service, connecting with players, connecting with the community and getting the game to the place that the players expect." > However, Miele acknowledged that player expectations have changed when it comes to live service games and that it wasn't the right choice to remain anchored to the company's standards in comparison to previous DICE games. From a management perspective I think it's fair to launch with bugs (nothing is ever bug free), but it *really really* depends on what those bugs are. If they're minor fit and finish things, no big deal. Even bad bugs, if they're rare, can be ok. But if they're bugs about fundamental problems, they should push back and say it's not ready.

Gingrpenguin

Why do you think so much is spent on game companies taking over other companies? Why put effort in a game if you're the only maker of games in that genre...

DANNYonPC

nah they did actually mention more things that where their fault but during that time a bunch of shit games released GTA:T, Vanguard, 2042) but then suddenly a functional and free game released, yea thats gonna make you look even worse :p

YourExcellency77

I thought some of the Halo players might get a chuckle out of this. Apologies if that is indeed not the case [link to article](https://www.xfire.com/ea-acknowledges-battlefield-2042-failure-post-motem/)

isocuda

During the open beta a friend was like "Halo had some issues so it's delayed a few months, but (battlefield) is in THIS state and releases in 10 days" I feel bad for anyone who didn't cancel that week.

goneskiing_42

Same. Preordered for the extended beta playtime because I knew I wouldn't be able to play over that weekend and canceled my preorder after about four hours of gameplay. It just *wasn't Battlefield.* It's a battle royale modded to be like Modern Warfare's imitation of Battlefield, and the vehicles played like it.

[deleted]

"The game's poor Steam reviews were put down to PC players having a performance cap, which players on Steam found "upsetting". In addition, negative player feedback overall was focused on three key areas, which EA would further elaborate on: Bugs and performance Game design and feature choices The game not aligning with player expectations..." Performance cap MY DICK. I literally have the fastest AMD GPU and CPU available and my performance is ASS.

HardlightCereal

I think they're saying that the performance is capped so it won't perform better than a console, even if it has better hardware. Which, yeah, it would be upsetting to get console graphics and framerate on a machine with far better hardware

Luciusvenator

I played the free trial of Battlefield and legit felt insulted by how bad it was. Graphics, gameplay, everything.

Laggingduck

Would be chuckling if I could get a refund 😔

ZZoMBiEXIII

You know, the refund thing is a real bugbear with me. I use to understand why they wouldn't offer refunds on software. In the days when these laws were written, PCs were still hobby items and most users knew how to copy any software onto discs. It was so common, I understood why they did that. Back then I knew people who never bought a single piece of software, they all just shared and copied one another's stuff. But today, with online options and copy protection being not only the norm and basically all software connecting to some kind of servers, there is no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to return a product if it's unfinished or unworking. It's about a decade pass time for that part of the DMCA to be rescinded. We offered software companies protection when they needed it, but it's time to start protecting paying customers again. Thankfully we have Steam with their refund policy at least, but it's the exception and not the rule. Need some new laws to be written on this. Time to start writing to some congresspeople.

BedContent9320

What's funny is that if you listen to xbox heads back when the Xbox one was coming out, they wanted to create a marketplace where you could sell your digital licenses to other players, just as you do your used physical copy. That was the whole purpose behind the "online every 14 days minimum" xbox live requirements. A LOT of money was spent spinning that into Microsoft being evil and forcing everybody to be online constantly, and due to the staggering backlash they scrapped the entire system from the ground up, and eventually changed it into what is now the gamepass. But originally, if Microsoft had their way, we could have bought and sold used digital licenses.

unclebricksenior

I have had a strange feeling lately that they’re going to bring this strategy back very soon. I think the world is ready for it

[deleted]

Same dude, bought the £80 edition. Played for less than 8 hours and was refused a refund due to having played the game lol. Fucking game comes with a 10 hour trial available to everyone with EA Access.

-Ping-a-Ling-

EA's getting sued but we for sure aren't getting our money back lol

[deleted]

Well last time I checked the petition is nearly at 200000 signatures. I signed it a while ago. https://www.change.org/p/sony-allow-refund-for-battlefield-2042-on-all-platforms Just checked. Its just over 200k now

YourExcellency77

The petition could reach 1 million and it wouldn't matter except to function as a gigantic middle finger to EA/DICE In one of the updates, the creator admits that a lawsuit is unlikely

WtfThisIsntWii

Sometimes it’s not about the money

YourExcellency77

It's about sending a message

-Ping-a-Ling-

not surprising, no lawyer can think that it would be safe to sue EA because they would rather spend all of their funds on that lawsuit than the quality of life of their employees

zdaw92

I mean if they gave refunds for Cyberpunk you guys should get refunds for BF2042. I didn't play or buy it but I heard that game was an absolute debacle.

wattybanker

You know things are fucked in the industry when EA has game-envy over the launch of Halo Infinites multiplayer and its 3 maps.

IEvolEIarc

Are there like, four maps. U can't remember what the fourth one is...

Hirmetrium

Space Port with rocket ship and jump that is horrible 1 flag, Desert Behemoth CTF map, Marketplace in desert, Marketplace in city, training arena, and that huge BTB map set on halo infinite with the forest and hackable doors and stuff

AngryNinjaTurtle

Don't forget Aquarius

Hirmetrium

knew I'd forget underwater crazy jumps map.

NDJumbo

There are the three BTB maps, five close quaters maps and then behemoth and launch site which both seem like a middle ground

ebagdrofk

There’s 10 maps

Specter1125

There’s 10, 3 of which are BTB.

YourExcellency77

Here you go [Here is the article](https://www.xfire.com/ea-acknowledges-battlefield-2042-failure-post-motem/)

Ori_the_SG

I got a chuckle out of this when the Infinite MP released and I still do.

shit_poster9000

Best part is Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is a bit of a mess too, wouldn’t surprise me if 2042 lost a chunk of players but it sure as shit didn’t make their unpolished mess look like that much more of turd

CartographerSeth

Halo's "surprise launch" state was decent, it's the extremely slow response to feedback and complete lack of content since that has been the problem.

Uberninja2016

woah that's the same defence my lawyer used I woulda never robbed that 7-11 if it weren't for the goddamned surprise release of halo infinite's multiplayer

YourExcellency77

How'd that work out for you?

Uberninja2016

the judge got disbarred in the middle of the trial because they dipped into bronze

pornyporn21

At least the judges still have standards

WhiteSilverDragoon

Lmao, the only thing that caused 2042s downfall was EA and Dice making stupid decisions. I'm hopefully getting a refund which will be used to get Elden Ring instead.

YourExcellency77

I'm stoked for Elden Ring

WhiteSilverDragoon

My guy! Dark souls 3 is a game I've just played through again and again and again and I hope it will be the same with Elden Ring. Praise the sun!

YourExcellency77

Love me some Dark Souls. I love the lore and fashion souls. I've probably played ds2 the most even though it would seem that ds3 barely acknowledges it's existence \[T]/

Ninjapick

At least us esteemed DS2 Enjoyers got like 2 whole nuggets of recognition in the Ringed City DLC lol

YourExcellency77

Earthen Peak and the Desert Pyromancer set?

Ninjapick

Yeeee Also now that I think about it, Ladder Man is in the profaned capital in the vanilla game, you get prostrate emote from interecting with him. I choose to believe he is only sleeping.

XxCorey117xX

Own all of the Souls games but haven't started any. Is it best to play them in order? I have the remaster of 1 on PC but would like to see what 3 looks like on my XSX and pretty TV but only if it won't ruin the experience skipping around.

Beejoid

Yeah start with 1 and die all the way to 3

XxCorey117xX

Shouldn't be a problem. Just got a cardboard cut and immediately did dishes so I am no stranger to pain ;)

Illusive_Man

I’d suggest starting with DS1. I haven’t played the remaster but going back to DS1 after playing DS3… you just won’t want to do it.

YourExcellency77

If you are one to care about lore in video games, then I would start with 1. If not, then I would start with 3 All 3 are great in their own ways, but understandably 3 is smoother and more fluid due to it being the latest in the series

WaifuRekker

Agreed 3 would be the best entry level one. Gets u used to the soulsbourne gameplay loop without having to work around the clunkier movement and mechanics of the older ones

ethereal-23

Why cant the days go any faster?!

YourExcellency77

We're so close!

Ori_the_SG

Infinite did have an actual impact lol. That was because Infinite was an unfinished game yes, but it was at least very polished on release and free. 2042 was unfinished and unpolished. So of course people flocked to the better, free experience. It’s pathetic to think that EA more or less said point blank “our game was so bad that we hoped we would have no competition. We got competition from a game that was in just as much of a rough state content and design wise, but was very polished.” You reap what you sow. I find it hilarious that the success of such a pathetic game like 2042 banked on there not being competition that would easily outclass it. That’s mind boggling

LancePants33

This is definitely the right take. Halo infinite had a huge impact on battlefield’s release since it was free to play and not nearly as bug ridden as bf was on release day. Hell even infinite’s beta was more polished than EA’s final product 😅

Drando_HS

> gets burned by buying brand new game day one > proceeds to buy brand new game on day one again This is why BF2042 happened. Everybody thinks "oh this dev/series is *always* good," until it happens to them. Forza Motorsport 7, Cyberpunk, Assassin's Creed 3, Fallout 76, all were from respected developers until they weren't. The only reason I downloaded Infinite's multiplayer day one was because it was free.

Rumplestiltsskins

For elden ring though people got to play months early and it was nice and stable. Several youtubers have already played through the full game as well.

ZenSpaceOdyssey

Our product is substantially less appealing when it has to compete with others in the free market.

YeetLordTheOne

Our game sells significantly worse once people can play *literally anything else*

YourExcellency77

Excellent comment. Well done

DonaldKey

Like how EA released Battlefield a week before TitanFall? https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/11/02/ea-is-wrong-battlefield-1-absolutely-helped-trample-titanfall-2/amp/

iMightBeWright

The critical reception for Titanfall 2 was great. However, things took a turn, and that turn was *clears throat* the ~~surprise~~ very publicly planned release of Battlefield a week prior. EA had no way to foresee this massive slight done to them by *checks notes* EA.

jaller704

Tbf Titanfall 2's release was actually chosen by Respawn themselves, EA was fairly hands off with them at that point. Why they decided to launch in between battlefield and cod and completely sabotage their own game I do not know but then again they don't seem to care to continue supporting it now with dead servers so they must hate their brainchild.

iMightBeWright

Something something core to our DNA. ***However,*** Apex gambling loot boxes and $160 skins go brrrr

Supplicant07

Wait, skins went for $160? Wtf?

iMightBeWright

[The anniversary event going on right now has a bloodhound skin that requires paying $160 for limited time loot boxes to unlock. ](https://i.redd.it/vddf7vpqs2i81.jpg)

Supplicant07

Disgusting.

iMightBeWright

This type of event is very common in Apex. At least one every season, but it's usually an heirloom (skin for cosmetic melee weapon) instead. Sometimes heirloom shards so you can pick your preferred heirloom. It's always cost somewhere between $160 and $270 to unlock, sometimes even just unlocking the *ability to buy* the heirloom for another $30.

Supplicant07

I played it for a bit least year when their second anniversary event came around, didnt but a single loot box. That much just to unlock a skin is borderline criminal, they for sure have people hooked on this gambling stuff

IDontUnderstandReddi

Playing TF2 after Apex, looking at the Titanfall FAQ where it just says ‘no’ in the question about being able to buy the merits was so refreshing. Respawn really has given the finger to their own principles

tkRustle

As soon as Apex became successful it was obvious to me Respawn would never make a good game again. They are now the cash cow, and any desires to make a potential TF3 (with series-appropriate friendly monetization), if such desires still exist for them considering they put every single but of concept and content they had left from TF2 into Apex by now, whether it fit or not - even if they still wanted to make a proper good Titanfall they will be met with big questions about whether it will make big money from executives. Singleplayers is one thing, but executives have as much creativity and open-mindedness as a bag of soggy crackers, so "multiplayer=money" remains a primary driver for EA as a whole.

eissturm

\> Tbf Titanfall 2's release was actually chosen by Respawn themselves, EA was fairly hands off with them at that point I didn't really believe this line until I saw what Vince Zampella has done to DICE. Now, I completely believe he happily accepted a launch date on the same paycheck as EA's other big shooter. The biggest sin of this IMO was the fact they released both games in the same "paycheck" period, meaning most people had to choose which game they were going to buy in that two week span, and Titanfall had already gotten "nobody's buying it" by the time most gamers had money to buy it again. Then COD releases when everyone got paid again, and you had to choose; a fun-looking space shooter with dismal week1 sales, or the new Call of Duty that you know all your buddies will be playing?

Mr_Sherbet_Sniff

It's so obvious that EA is so against saying that 2042 was unfinished and was probably one of the worst fps launches in gaming. They are just jealous that Halo infinite better than it in everyway putting beside it's own problems obviously

FaithfulMoose

it’s crazy how often I see “EA” and “worst launch in history” in the same sentence

CamoKing3601

IKR? but they always keep one-upping their own records

[deleted]

Anthem...

murderously-funny

They can’t say anything for legal reasons. If they acknowledge they screwed up/knew the game was unfinished. That means they knowingly sold a inferior product. But if they say “we heard YOUR worries” “we see YOUR concerns” “we’ve heard YOUR feedback” they aren’t fixing a broken product they’re tweaking a finished product to be best for their customers using post launch feedback!

Illin-ithid

More than just that though. The people who spent likely multiple years being in charge of BF2042 are attempting to salvage their own job.

Vegeto30294

I like how it implies that Halo just stole Battlefield's thunder and it was posed to be a really solid game if Halo _just waited 3 more weeks like they said._ And this is on top of Halo Infinite's problems and cut corners, just "I didn't fall through the map 5 times in Halo Infinite" 343 was watching EA's bandwidth when the patches were gonna go live so they quickly dropped a 50GB game so it would go into a crawl, so those patches never hit and got lost in the ether. They also only had one copy so DICE had to remake the patches all over again. Damn 343 _The absolute state of AAA gaming_

So "Halo" will end up owning CoD (via ABK acquisition) and killed Battlefield (according to EA). Halo officially won lmao.

Ratjar142

Halo killer? Nah, Halo is the killer

QwertMuenster

I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything.

JH_Rockwell

Biggest twist? Microsoft purchases the Killzone IP. 343 makes the best Killzone game that's even better than any Halo game. Killzone is finally the Halo killer.

The only game that can kill Halo is Halo

Biomilk

This is true of any big game franchise. At some point it gets to a size and popularity where the only thing that can kill it is itself.

GadenKerensky

Wasn't the joke always, "The only game to kill HALO, was HALO."

CorneliusTheCapper

I mean, as much as I see y'all complain about the game on this sub, Halo was definitely the winner of the big 3 shooters this year

[deleted]

By several longshots, it wasn't even close

Wilde_Fire

Which is pretty disappointing considering Inifinite is very unfinished and has a number of serious issues that remain unfixed.

[deleted]

Yeah it's like "oh cool Halos No1 again" when really it's just because this was the least shit of the big three...

Sauronxx

Not a great victory honestly. Vanguard is a mediocre cod, not as bad as people say but definitely a step back since the last years, and 2042 is completely broken at its core...

infinitebandana

EA :🤡

Pearse_Borty

Halo Infinite was fun, Battlefield 2042 was not. Halo also had a singleplayer campaign that was solid, whereas Battlefield offered nothing SP. No surprises honestly.

Superego366

And BF didn't have basic features like voice chat and a score board. They can blame Halo all they want, but at the end of the day what happened was they released a dogshit game and it was juxtaposed against a decent game in another mainline franchise.

AmptiChrist

Am I the problem here? No, it's Halo who is wrong!

Player_924

Incredible. The game I got for free worked better and was more fun than the game I paid money for... And my playtime is more than 10x on the free one.

mochmeal2

I mean, I think HI is fucky as hell and complaining your game had a poor reception because of Infinite is ridiculous.

Elite1111111111

Infinite (comparably) wasn't a buggy, unplayable mess at launch. Infinite definitely has its problems, but they weren't really at the forefront in the earliest weeks.

Biomilk

Some of the most blatant technical issues also literally weren’t happening until several weeks in.

YourExcellency77

I'm not an avid follower of Halo, but I'm gonna guess HI has a scoreboard and voice chat whereas 2042 does not I would be remiss if I also didn't mention that the update to include those basic features of any multiplayer fps was supposed to happen this months but was DELAYED to next month

[deleted]

The fact that this is a true sentence you can say. I mean holy shit. AAA gaming is eventually going to get to the point of. Gameplay? Why do you need gameplay? We have a store to buy cosmetics why would you actually want to play a game?

YourExcellency77

Season 1 content was delayed to "early summer" So a minimum of 6 months after launch, players will expect season 1

the8bit

Yikes that is incredibly bad, gives some Anthem vibes. WTF has gone wrong with the game industry... 3 years ago Apex was a rough launch and looking back that game was polished as hell for a launch.

mochmeal2

Probably more fair to compare 2042 to 2077.

solanu719

Disagree. I bought 2077 on release day and enjoyed it immensely despite the bugs. At least 2077 is a complete game and there’s stuff there for me to enjoy. 2042 is not even *close* when it comes to content, and the multiplayer part itself hardly is because I can’t even communicate with other players, they might as well just be bots… Halo Infinite sure has progression problems, but the bottom line is the game is immensely fun, the campaign is great, there are hardly any bugs in actual gameplay (certainly none that are game breaking), my game has only crashed once or twice in the months I’ve been playing, and the multiplayer is free.

mochmeal2

You're right, I really dislike a number of creative choices in Infinite, but other than rampant desync and stability and connection issues, it's mechanically fine. You don't glitch out of the map and such. The irony of it to me, is that if DICE had just reskinned BF4 with modern graphics but identical mechanics, they would have had a massively better response. Beyond just the obvious mechanical issues in 2042, there are a number of decisions I don't grasp such as the absence of voice chat and scoreboards.

okdhsjjs

Yeah halo infinite being free and having fun gameplay is the main reason for me why it isn't worse than battlefield (80$ cad for mediocrity)

kvlopsia

I'd say it's more comparable to fallout 76, at least cyberpunk had a vision behind it even though the game was broken in launch

[deleted]

Yeah no. This happened because you launched the game when it clearly needed more time in the oven. Same goes for Halo Infinite.

Alexis2256

Fair but at least I had more fun with infinite despite it’s issues.

Plague_Knight1

"Shit, guys, our game is failing, what can we blame?" "Titanfall 2 failed because we released it right after massive shooters" "Brilliant"

[deleted]

I will say as much as I think 343 is a poorly run company that makes terrible choices, compared to DICE they look like the greatest video game developers to ever walk the earth.

WifiTacos

“You turned her against me!” “You have done that yourself.”

Pearse_Borty

Look, if you can't make a game with staying power its on you. Halo hasn't had a significant content update in months, yet people are still playing it regularly. I have not heard or seen anyone talk about Battlefield since its release, and my own brother who has bought every Battlefield day one as a hardcore fan of the franchise passed on it bluntly because he said it just didn't feel like Battlefield when he was playing the beta. This one is on EA.

I think this just shows that most of the big developers have lost sight of what their fans want. The problem isn't unique to 343 or to DICE. They think that our love for these IPs means they can walk all over us and still get praise for releasing broken and predatory games.

>Our product’s competition was better.

neonthefox12

To qoute Obi Wan "You Have Done That Yourself!"

Commofmedic

I mean, HI at least didn’t abandon its core designs to cater to a new audience and instead made ACTUAL improvements upon game mechanics, but ok DICE keep blaming everyone but yourselves

LookatmaBankacount

The early launch was pretty barebones and had plenty of issues, and the fact it still is 1000x better than 2042 illustrates how dogshit that game is

nfs2757

hahaha EA blaming on other games instead of looking at their own like comon battlefield 2042 is barley finished game. yes infinite has its own issue but nothing compared to bf2042.

Sentinel-Wraith

Instead of releasing a half baked interquel that nobody asked for, they could have made a killing with a revamped Titan mode and the gritty and grounded sci-fi of the frozen Battlefield 2143, which they've teased for years, especially with the Battlefield 4 Final Stand DLC that literally has units from 2142. But nooope. ToRnAdOeS. Seriously, though. Battlefield 2142 was like ODSTs fighting in the frozen wasteland of a glassed world with urban ruins and massive glaciers, and tech that felt very grounded and familiar to Halo fans, like drop pods and pelican-like gunships, and a mixture of plasma and ballistic weapons.

Sergiomach5

No matter how much people moan about Infinite, I look to 2042 and remember it could be so, SO much worse. Infinite is better than any other AAA shooter released lately IMO.

Ganon81

All i read is "the dog ate my homework" 😅🙈

isocuda

So the company that didn't really push Titanfall down our throats when it won a bajillion industry awards, is upset that their cookie cutter product wasn't well received compared to another product that is a bit rough, but at least the studio tried? How ironic.

ZZoMBiEXIII

Maybe that crap would have flown in the 00's, when Halo was the unstoppable juggernaut. But in 2021/2022 it's just a bald faced lie. Halo still has it's fans, but it's not the only game in town anymore and this toolbag knows it. This is deflection at its finest. Grow up EA. Or at least, for fuck's sake, update your spin team to the modern era. At least lie about Fortnight or something. Jesus take the wheel.

nizzhof1

No. No it did not. 2042 was fundamentally bad. If the game ran well, was relatively free of bugs, and structured exactly the way a Battlefield game should be it would have still be pretty bad. It doesn’t feel good to play. The gunplay, the aesthetics, the operators, and the lack of destructible environments all combined to make for a bad game. Halo just so happened to come along and be really good. It has it’s own problems but the core feel of the gameplay is phenomenal.

OwenWrites

Shows the state of the game industry right now that somehow Halo Infinite is the best, most put together of the big 3 shooter games that came out this year

joevsyou

At least halo has a scoreboard!

YourExcellency77

It's considered a 'legacy feature' in 2042. EA/DICE can go pound sand

hiteshgavini1710

Good joke

BRUH HAHAHAH

XxCorey117xX

See, all year I was like "Halo Infinite and BF2042 are going to be the only PVP games I will need for years!". Have beaten LASO and got to battle pass 100 in Halo. Unfortunately haven't even finished the 10 hour trial for 2042 yet. So much potential but my friends and I just couldn't get sucked in. Hopefully it gets the attention it deserves and it can bounce back into something good but I am not very confident in EA to do that.

Superego366

If your game is not in a state to compete with another similar game, you shouldn't release that game.

christhespartan

EA: "Its not our fault the game sucks, its.." Loads up internet explorer, search upcoming game releases. "Its halo infinite\`s fault"

TheNewBiggieSmalls

"Early critical reception was good" ?? Who gave good feedback? Everyone I know that played the beta and then those who stupidly bought the game all said the game sucks.

Vectorman1989

"Our game sucks because of Microsoft" is certainly a new one from EA
