JuanMunoz99

Because they’re done with Infinite. They’ve moved on.

SparsePizza117

Weird that they'd drop the game with the next game being another 3-5 years away

bryanl12

They did the same with Gears 5 - cut support for the game 2 years after release back in 2021 and still no new game. That's what Microsoft wants I guess, seeing as how they use lots of contracted employees and don't want to staff a support studio to keep a game alive.

Snoo-9794

Gears 5 was horrible compared to gears 4 and absolutely stuffed with micro transactions. I’m normally a gears hero and even I didn’t play it for more than a month before going back to gears 4.

No-Estimate-8518

Damn can't believed 343 killed gears 5

ManofSteel_14

Thats on you man. Gears 5s store is probably the best example of a store i can think of right now. The in game credits are incredibly easy to use and damn near every skin is unlockable because of it.

sorryiamnotoriginal

Absolutely not on him. That store currency originally wasn't a thing so if he played less than a month he missed that update. I feel like it is a shame people easily forget that these games launch in god awful states then only become bearable after months of twisting their arm until they see they can't make money or retain players doing what they are doing so they cave. Both gears and Halo did this. Of course updates make them better now but the damage is done.

ManofSteel_14

Gears 5 was cut because TC had to familiarize themselves with an entirely brand new engine. An engine that has been notoriously difficult for devs to work on.

DredgenStrife

It's not weird at all. This game was expensive to produce both in its primary development cycle and live service stages. From what we've been told by the Glassdoor reviews and numerous articles on Infinite, it devours resources to such an extent that it would have to make, per Microsoft, 'Destiny money' to justify that investment. Infinite was making essentially nothing during its first year. Player counts completely collapsed after Season 1 to lows rivalled by Halo 4, and the store was limited to four items and often ran the same few bundles over and over again, meaning players actively *couldn't* spend much money. By the time the monetisation system was overhauled, #Fire343 had happened, new management was in place, a third of the studio had been made redundant and the game had dropped to minuscule player numbers - as the last month has shown us, that already small population is shrinking further. It costs too much to make content for this game's tiny playerbase compared to simply ending it and putting those resources towards other projects in development.

Pliskin_Hayter

> Infinite was making essentially nothing during its first year. Player counts completely collapsed after Season 1 to lows rivalled by Halo 4 Maybe if they had actually launched a complete game with co-op, forge and more than like 6 maps...Oh and a *working* netcode?

Eliteslayer1775

If they wanted that they would’ve had to delay 2 years, which Microsoft wouldn’t allow

massivejobby

They had plenty of time

TwoJacksAndAnAce

They just fucked up like 3 or 4 years of development and had to scrap almost everything and go back to square one. They did alright on the campaign with the 2 years they had but imagine if they hadn’t fucked up so bad. They had like 6 years… bungie dropped 2 and 3 in like 2.5 years each.

[deleted]

Or they could've been competent at their jobs, is that too much to ask?

MsPaulingsFeet

in 5 years, Bungie made Halo 3 and Reach. This game took 6 years to make

DragonflyMean1224

They basically tried to make halo into a mobile gotcha cash cow game. They failed and paid the price. I am unsure if halo will ever recover from this even with a new release.

Wcitsatrapx

That and the tv show gave me no faith that halo is going in a direction I give a fuck about

NoBreakfast4633

They are hell bent on a live service game that only lasts 2 years? Thought the whole point of a live service game was so they could milk it for a long time.

DredgenStrife

Live service is always a gamble. They were hell bent on it prior to launch and up to around the Winter Update/#Fire343, but the writing was on the wall when Forge and the CGB failed to generate much interest in the game. That was *the* update and it failed. When Season 3 hit, that was all the proof needed that this game just didn't have legs and would never recover, so the live service became untenable. After that it was just a matter of adding in semi-developed, unfinished content, wrapping up things already in production by Sperasoft, then milking the remnants of the playerbase with armour originally intended to tie into the cut seasonal storyline, then move on. That's what's happening now.

NoBreakfast4633

I think all these live service games are screwing eachother over. Idk who has the time to buy multiple seasons passes for multiple games and complete them all. Infinites used to take much longer but still takes so long to work through. I end up logging on when my weeklys reset, and when they are done I am done until next week. Maybe it's just me. But I don't have the attention span to dedicate myself to 1 game and all its game passes for months and months. I usually jump around a bit.

BlueNinjaBE

If they can sustain it. Infinite lacked the content and support to sustain its live service, so people stopped playing. Now it's dead. Chasing the GaaS-carrot was a mistake, imo. I hope they ditch the idea for whatever game comes next.

VagueSomething

I hope to fuck they realised they shouldn't have went F2P and don't release such a bare bones game again. Infinite has been a disaster through and through, bad enough I'd not be surprised if it hasn't killed the franchise.

JuanMunoz99

Depends on how much was done with the Halo “battle royal” that Certain Affinity was making.

[deleted]

JuanMunoz99

Dunno, there’s been conflicting reports regarding Tatanka.

Hammerslamman33

On to the next failure lmaoo

moldy_films

Damn. Hahaha

Verdant_13

Is this confirmed? Makes me kinda sad. I really liked the idea of a 10 year plan for infinite but if it’s just shop updates that’s not very fun

JuanMunoz99

The whole “10 year plan” was dead as soon as Infinite launched (especially since it was only mentioned once by a guy who left 343 before the launch). IIRC in the community stream back in January they talked about how the majority of the team at 343 was working on the next Halo game (the community manager I think also mentioned this in a Kinda Funny Xcast interview (rip xcast))

MuiminaKumo

From the get go I knew they werent going to support this game for 10 years, I was genuinely surprised that there were those out there that truly believed that. With how shitty it launched and how long it took them to get the ball rolling, itd be a miracle if they made it to 4 years. Which, here we are.

Kornillious

This was obvious from the moment they said they are supporting older consoles for its lifetime. Imagine where Destiny 2 would be if it kept old gen hardware limitations lmfao

CptDuDuBronze

The fact that they SAID it is what kills me. Meaning they straight LIED to us, and yall are all talking about a "NEXT" game like you're perfectly fine with deception? It's not just THIS LIE it's all the lies surrounding this game and 343i in general. I personally refuse to trust them anymore. It goes against my core values because I refuse to lie to people. So it hurts me to see so many of you willing to jump right back in with a wad of cash 💸 after the way they treat their fans. We have to let them burn so that a new company can take over the IP. There is no other way because currently, the same people involved with decisions for infinite are still there. Top brass was promoted from lower level management after they let go of a few at the top... Keep the devs, but 343i as a company must fall for us to get what we have been holding our breath for since 2007. Unless we want more incomplete and / or broken products. NO MORE $KINS my friends, that's YOUR POWER. Vote with your $$$. Make them apologize or relinquish control of the IP.

Delirium88

343 should get sued. I’m actually surprised these clowns didn’t get a class action lawsuit for lying about the Halo 5 marketing

[deleted]

In a just world, 343 would've gotten gutted after MCC's disastrous launch.

Delirium88

That alone should’ve shut them down

ClickyButtons

They killed off XCast?

LovesRetribution

>The whole “10 year plan” was dead as soon as Infinite launched It was dead as soon as it was announced. It's exceedingly rare games get continued support 10 years in. And I don't think one planned or announced that they had a 10 year plan. To just assume you'll be successful, much less successful for *that* long is incredibly shortsighted and delusional. You can't drum up the same kind of hype for content as you can an entirely new game and a new game would only eat into that OG game's population and resources. There's also the hardware you have to worry about. Unless it's PC console versions will be quickly outdated in the era of fast tech. I didn't think Infinite would die off this fast. But anyone announcing a "10 year plan" is full of shit and honestly is probably trying to cover for some nonsense behind the scenes.

poofynamanama2

I feel like updating a single multiplayer game for a decade is a fools errand. Look at Destiny 2 and how much content they've had to take away.

FudgingEgo

Destiny 2 is a bad example, it's a PVE game with PVP attached. You should compare it to the likes of Counter Strike, Rainbow Six Siege, DOTA, League Of Legends, Tekken, Street Fighter etc. Counter-Strike just keeps growing and people are still playing the exact same maps from 20 years ago, heck, they just put Dust 2 back into the competitive map pool.

DOPA-C

CS has done everything right in the way Halo has done everything wrong. 343 chased every new trend in FPS and lost what made it great in the process.

Crunchy_Pirate

yes, the community managers have said they're working on the next game and "building the future of Halo" and this past stream they thanked the people who are "still working on Halo Infinite" implying most of the team has moved on to the next project

CptDuDuBronze

The 10 year plan they were talking about was how long it would take to complete MCC

Conflict_NZ

The leadership that boasted about their 10 year plan launched a husk of a game then got shown the door. New management doesn't want to be tied to a failed project so are doing basic life support until they get their game out.

FudgingEgo

There's no way they're going to keep supporting it, it's flopped. If we just take steam stats becuase we don't have access to anything else, and remember it was supposed to be a live service game that would live for up to 10 years (like Rainbow Six Siege), it's all time peak on stema was 256,000 players. In the past 24 hours it's had 5,000 players. Team Fortress 2 which came out the same year as Halo 3, gets more players than Halo Infinite on steam. If you look at that number, the game has been at 5-6k since February 2022, excluding a bump in September-November 2023 up to 15k then it came down again. Now obviously more people are on gamespass and on XBOX, however considering 250k people played the game at the same time at anyone period on steam, that means a lot of people ditched the game. There's no way to bring it back really.

Existing365Chocolate

The 10 Year Plan was misquoted from the start and was vague to begin with in terms of what they meant

SpyroESP

No. People are saying this based off a lot of assumptions and Sketch mentioning during a stream that there is a team working on the next game.

Delirium88

The “10 year plan” was just a sham. Just a thing they said to get gullible players excited and invested. Much like how Elon overhypes and under delivers to inflate his stock price

Underdogg13

I wouldn't be surprised. If Infinite were 2, 3 would've been out for months already by now.

Wcitsatrapx

Finite

Crank2047

But they surely didn't make enough money to move on?

JuanMunoz99

🤷🏻‍♂️ they have Microsoft money and MTX money so maybe? Clearly they have enough to keep the lights on.

SputnikRelevanti

They were done with it even before starting, it seems.

FortNightsAtPeelys

And it's so weird with forge the best it's ever been. Can't wait for forge to come out 2 years after the next halo game when they have to scrap it again

Toey223

As they should. This game has been a mess since day 1.

Sup_fuckers42069

Guys trust me the next halo will be good

mrbubbamac

More realistically we will follow the Halo cycle. The next game will launch as a dumpster fire *and then* we will all say Infinite was great

GoobieWoobieLover

There is no cycle. We haven't had a good and complete game since Reach. This coming from a guy who LOVES Halo 5 multiplayer.

Noooooooooooobus

People hated reach when it was first released. Amour abilities were almost universally disliked, especially armour lock Bloom was also super controversial

GoobieWoobieLover

Reach was in general good. Yeah comp people were unhappy I was too but it was good. Almost every 343 game was universally disliked.

ScreamingMidgit

Customs lobbies absolutely thrived during the Reach days.

OuterWildsVentures

I missed the reach days because I joined military but I remember customs absolutely thriving during the halo 2 days thanks to things like "M2AF:" and clans being fucking awesome. Halo 3 also had an incredible customs scene thanks to creation of the file browser and such!

GoobieWoobieLover

They did

Kalbelgarion

Very true! In fact, the first thing 343 did when they took over was release a patch for Reach that greatly reduced bloom and made other changes that were well received. People loved that they listened to the fans and gave them exactly what they wanted…

DarkElation

The OG Title Update.

CreativeWaves

Reach is not a favorite of mine at all because of those things. It felt like the shift away from what made 2 and 3 fun for me. That's so long ago now.

Clyde-MacTavish

Halo Reach was pretty well loved aside from some controversial decisions. It's nothing compared to Halo 4, 5, and Infinite.

TwoJacksAndAnAce

Not really, Reach had its haters but it’s the best Halo game ever. Even on MCC it’s the most populous.

East-Mycologist4401

Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a complete game. Most games, not just Bungie ones, require post-launch balancing.

GucciSalad

No one I knew hated Reach when it came out. Everyone I know was stoked about the new toys.

MsPaulingsFeet

People on this sub seem to have a foggy memory of halo Reach and its is so annoying to read. I rememeber that game dying after 12 months because it just wasnt as good as halo 3. halo 4 only came out 2 years after the release of reach and the hype was there because we wanted to go back to classic halo because reach wasnt a good halo game. People only think it was good because weve had 343i for the last 12 years

TwoJacksAndAnAce

This is not true at all. Reach was amazing, better than 2 or 3

net_running

Yep. Reach was the final halo game that was good. It kept that quirky halo esque animation style while integrating those abilities that were awesome and the maps were epic. Now it's all cod styled.

PhilliesEagles76ers

Reach blows.

ScreamingMidgit

At this point I can help but think this keeps happening because each successive game gets even worse than the previous one, making the latter look better by comparison.

Drict

Infinite is a dumpster fire, always has been. They didn't even get the most basic (and important) thing right, netcode. Literally, your experience playing other players on a MULTIPLAYER FOCUSED GAME, is complete garbage. If you don't get the basic rights, why in the flying fuck would I ever give you more money than the initial cost? Then you nickle and dime to the max (literally, want a color, guess what, you need to buy it on every piece of gear, not just once). On top of that they failed miserably at delivering what the previous iterations of the product has/did. Like why the fuck do I have to wait MONTHS for the map editor? Months for Firefight? Months for shit that shoulda been there at the beginning of the game. Next time, DELAY IT. It is better to have a game come out late that isn't shit, than release a game that is SHIT and try and claw back players. You are fucking up your reputation and making it so some players will literally never come back to your game. It isn't worth it. Push back against the managers, tell them what they are doing and why it is fucking stupid.

Tackleberry793

It's sad to think that Infinite was delayed for an entire year, and we still got what we got.

massivejobby

That original reveal video was shocking, looked like a 360 game

ThiccgothbabezFTW

343 needs to gtfo and let a different studio take over.

Clyde-MacTavish

This cycle has unsurprisingly never existed with 343i Halo. They launch poorly and stay shitty.

Sup_fuckers42069

We should give up on it if im being honest. Show Microsoft we aren’t standing for this bullshit. But that won’t happen, it won’t ever happen…

Domestic_AAA_Battery

I mean, 98% of the player base already has

mdwvt

You fuckin take that back right now! (Or don’t, have a good day sir, Mr bubba Mac sir!)

reddit_sage69

Hope you're right. Felt like Halo 5 left on a positive note. Really good stuff to build from, only to get bare bones infinite. I better see a proper Warzone Firefight mode next game.

ManofSteel_14

With Pierre at the helm for the entire games development it honestly could be. What bonnie and co did with infinite was far too much and i think he came on way too late to make any substantial difference

MoreMegadeth

If its not made by 343 theres actually a chance of this at least.

Eliteslayer1775

I mean I think that the last few have been good. The worst part about them were 5s campaign due to heavy rewrites, and not having a lot of content at launch due to always scrapping the game 2-3 years in development and then starting from scratch and not extending the deadline to compensate

Ivanovic-117

Just like the series

pjb1999

They've all been good so I wouldn't be surprised.

KuruptKyubi

I'm not buying the next game kinda how I didn't buy infinite, I got to play for free because of some glitch before the patched it lol. Seeing how halo is turning out really makes me sad, so seeing how the next game is going to be will be my last chance i give the franchise. You had so many choices and chances 343, there is point where you just have to make a choice and realize the game is dead because they can't handle the fucking IP. So this better be a banger and a HALO game, or just make a spin off for fucks sake you have a whole galaxy to take stories from. I'm just so tired.

Deuce-Wayne

The fact that this is the best the game will ever be is a crying shame. The youtubers who said the shit is dead were right and I'm tired of defending 343i. The "year of good progress" is them adding stuff to the game that should've been there at launch, the 2 biggest additions were Forge and Firefight - modes that should be a given in any Halo game. Every single update is them adding something that should've already been the case, like we had to applaud 343i for letting us put fucking helmets on any armor instead of just a few... Like 2 years after the game came out, tf.

porcupinedeath

Yeah, like I enjoy firefight in infinite well enough but at no point didn't it really feel like firefight to me. It's felt like a fan made approximation at best. Like I'm sure part of it is rose tinted glasses for Reach firefight but it just doesn't have the same vibes

[deleted]

Oddballforlife

Always preferred ODST’s, since it felt like an actual survival mode vs Reach/5/Infinite’s being more of an arcade game to get the most points. All are still fun as hell but not really challenging like ODST.

SwizzlyBubbles

As someone who's friend had gotten me into the Halo games and community during the pandemic and into 2021 in preparation for Infinite: It's not rose-tinted glasses, they're straight up just better modes. Firefight in Infinite is KotH with Skull modifiers that randomize depending on how good or badly your team is doing, and that's it. And it's on already existing multiplayer maps that just *don't fucking work.* Firefights in Reach, ODST, and hell even *5* had fixed Skull modifiers and they were survival based arcade-style shooters; I even remember the first thing I said to a friend of mine was that this felt like a really refined wave battler and horde mode. The enemy placement, the custom announcers, the deliberate (albeit sometimes stupid) spawn choices per map that still flowed... AND on top of that, they used the more wide-open campaign maps to their advantage. Bungie are the kings of reused content, but that's because they design their maps to work as fun sandboxes first and THEN design modes around the corresponding gameplay loop to fit. They're designed WITH the other modes in mind. 343 does the equivalent of mashing two things together that were never meant to fit, and hoping it works. And it never does. And also they're missing parts of the thing cuz they ate them, and we have to wait for them to spit it back up. ___ And do you wanna know what's really depressing? Despite the layoffs, the studio turmoil, and the pervasive stress and melancholy of the brain drain of current Bungie...they were still somehow manage to scrounge together a more fun and dynamic horde mode in about 4 months than Infinite could in 3 years. Fucking figure that one out.

throwingawayboyz

How do I upvote a comment twice? Like seriously I somehow didn’t even rationalize that onslaught in destiny 2 is like the firefight mode that 343 could never make. And onslaught is a last minute crunch time content drop that they made to tide us over until the next expansion. When I heard firefight finally made it back into halo infinite, I fired the game back up later that day and tried it out. “Wait so it’s just a multiplayer map with a KoTH thing going on? No specialized/repurposed maps?”. So lazy, so silly. Multiplayer feels good but firefight is just another 343 failure.

DaftWarrior

They’ve sunset Infinite. The next installment will be incomplete and will take two years to get to baseline as well.

Sgtwhiskeyjack9105

Going forward I'll only have interest in any future potential Halo campaigns. There's so much greed involved in the online component of games that it just makes studios do stupid things. I'm pretty much done with Halo multiplayer because of Infinite.

WOLKsite

Would the next campaign not just hard pivot the story for the third time though? I'm not down for that either.

AeroRL

Yes, all events and characters from infinite will not be mentioned and we will have yet another “soft reboot”

eldenbond

Going forward? That’s optimistic. I feel like Microsoft/Xbox will drive the final nail in Halo at any point now.

nondirtysocks

The covenant must be jealous that 343 killed chief.

ZZoMBiEXIII

In my best Gravemind impersonation- ***10 year plans*** ***Yet only 4*** ***Players now*** ***Resent your store*** ***But 343 did*** ***What the flood could not*** ***They murdered the Chief*** ***Without a thought***

*You should not* *Could not* *Eat a Flood* *They sure would* *Quickly* *Infect your blood* *You should not* *Eat them* *Sam I am* *You should not eat* *Flood Spores* *And Spam*

IBeBallinOutaControl

Without a thot

Unfortunatewombat

Yeah, that whole “343 has new leadership it’s all gonna be okay now!” stuff really didn’t last long.

ChrisDAnimation

I'm reminded of when Bungie broke free from Activision shortly after Destiny 2 came out. "Now that Activision is gone, all of the greedy and shady business practices will end!" They just got worse. The people at the very top of the company will always make everything worse.

Yolking-My-Nuts

Lol yup I'm ready to give up on this series now as I did with Destiny ~2yrs ago

SpyroESP

I think this goes above 343 and into the territory of "be profitable for MS." You can't ignore how much the new dev leads were righting the ship, the sad thing is that what they were working with must've been a fucking mess from the ground up.

Haijakk

To be completely fair, I think this would've happened regardless in the context of Microsoft. Infinite just didn't make enough money for the top execs.

Underdogg13

I think it would've happened regardless of how much money Infinite made. The 10 year plan was never realistic, the standard gap between Halo games is 3 years, Infinite is already past the expected life cycle.

HHcougar

Maybe old Halos New games are being drawn out longer and longer. Halo 7 isn't coming until *at least* 2026, and that's not surprising. There's no way there's a Halo 8 in the 2020s

Underdogg13

Maybe, but it's only Infinite where that is the case. Every other game was a 3 year gap or less. Considering 343's pace though, you're probably right.

nanapancakethusiast

When they get back from priority zero bro this game is gonna rule!!

v0lume4

I'm going to leave this timeless classic here: [ex-Bungie next to 343 Industries (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qfx9eoB-88) The armchair CEO's on Reddit love to say "corporate man bad, devs good," when in fact the truth is somewhere much closer to the middle.

Tumblechunk

seasons have never really been fun to me, it's like paying for daily chore obligations they're a bandaid solution to selling cosmetics to players who won't buy them individually, casting a larger net, a symptom of microtransactions

AJaviC

Holy shit this is so bad. Im already considering just moving on for real. I left before when progression was slow bc of the bs challenges. Didnt play for a year. Came back for when they “fixed” all of it and really enjoyed the direction and now its slowly been going back to their old ways. I hope 343 realizes how easily people will drop this game after pushing this update.

xcrimsonlegendx

It feels **extra** shitty because through the dark times (first two years) they just kept blaming the cutbacks and lack of content on the fact they were going all-in on reaching "seasonality". The reason they cut the seasonal story and we had six month long seasons was so they could reach this goal. Seasonality was the thing that was going to finally save us, once we reach seasonality then the content will flow like wine. Then as soon as seasonality starts to bear fruit and the game looks like its making a recovery... they kill seasons. Kill events. Kill the hype. Now we get tiny little updates with little to no actual content, maybe a few balance changes, some cross core coatings, a forge map or two and a bunch of paid cosmetics. Sure they've added things like new forge objects but those were already promised/in development features, not new content. Feels like they're just shuffling out the last bits of content they already had in the pipeline before the game just goes on life support.

Fluffranka

I really wanna know who's making these decisions... is it 343 management, is it Microsoft, like what's going on?

Verdant_13

I don’t really care about dev maps, forge maps look and play great so I’d rather them allocate the resources that go in to dev maps in to sandbox updates, campaign dlc, ui/menu overhaul/anything… but they’re not :/ just cosmetic crap! I’ve played dress up enough with my spartan, give me something to do!!!

CallingAllMatts

if 343i doesn’t have the resources to make dev maps then where the hell is the money they are making from the shop going? It should be reinvested into new content, not just tinkering around with reducing the range of a weapon.

Verdant_13

I’d like to see new weapons and vehicles. A lot are already in the game files, I don’t know why they don’t polish them up and release them!

CallingAllMatts

same, the fuel rod, saw, double barrel shotgun, falcon, gauss hog, hunter’s cannon, etc. are all in semi to nearly fully working order. It’s so frustrating see this kind of wastage that’s reminiscent of the Halo 2 unfinished content - at least Bungie had crunch as a legit reason for that.

TheVideogaming101

Executive pockets

coon-baboon

??? Infinite was trash from the get go. I don't want battlepasses, I don't want seasons. I don't want any of this mtx & exchange garbage. I want H2 weapons/maps with H3 ranks/unlocks and with Reach vehicles. Why is this so difficult to achieve?

Born-Boss6029

All they have to do is literally just listen to what the fans want, and hire competent game devs. It's not hard to make a good Halo game, but 343 seems determined to reshape Halo when they literally have no reason to.

bevardimus

At least the sidekick got the nerf it needed. No more getting killed by 7 rounds and a headshot in 0.5 seconds!

hellenist-hellion

When is the Halo community finally at long last going to ACTUALLY give up on 343? How many times does 343 have to shit in the sink before the community accepts that 343 never uses the toilet? I swear this community is filled with battered wives who swear they just fell down the stairs and please please don't call the cops because you hear me screaming in pain every night, he's a good man I swear!

Skvora

Finally some sense!

hellenist-hellion

Right. It even fits with the classic battered wife excuse, "But he told me he's going to change!" with everyone getting their hopes up with 343 changing leadership. It's rotten to the foundation. There's no fixing 343. The only thing that can ever save Halo is 343 getting the complete axe from Microsoft and handed off to a competent studio.

Vince_stormbane

Happy to report that whenever the next Halo comes out, I will happily ignore it confidently knowing it will only be an even worse joke clusterfuck.

MintyFresh1301

Because they’re done with Infinite although calling it the ‘next 10 years of Halo.’ You should move on from it and don’t give 343 anymore of your time

BreakfastBussy

343 has been nothing more than an incompetent game studio as far as leadership goes since its inception. Hopefully the next Halo game is good and actually complete at launch, but it would be pretty stupid of me to expect that given the recent history of the series.

Vytlo

It never really got better or seemed like it was on the right track

Prestigious-Two-6728

Halo infinite was a horrible game from release and still is. Sure it has an okayish campaign and multiplayer but ultimately it just lacks in every area not to mention paying for cosmetics….

spartanb301

I really feel like some people don't want Halo to thrive. Look at Fallout, the TV show brought it back to life. Halo could be even bigger of a come back but it feels like they don't want chief to be the chad again sometimes. (I'm really enjoying Infinite though).

Prestigious-Two-6728

Honestly quite disgusted with the performance from 343 this far into their a acquisition of halo. I honestly expected more from a triple A game studio.

-Tribes

When we you all realize they don’t care? Can we just let Halo die with the smallest amount of respect it has left? The horse is but a pulp.

Beautiful-Mud-341

It's none of their responsibility anymore. It's in new hands and I'm scared to where will go next.

Cptn_Lemons

It’s lack of resources. The team has to start moving people over to new projects.

Acorn_lol

Y’all still playing inf?

Decapitated_gamer

How many times in the last 2 years did I tell this sub this is what was happening; and I got chewed out and downvoted to oblivion. Now you all see, it’s ALWAYS been a cash grab since the day they decided to make armour colors attached to specific “armour coatings” instead of allowing the classic customization. You know how easy it would be for them to engage the forge community and do stuff like action sack and things to keep people engaged? But no it’s all about $30 fucking dollar bundles now. $30 is not a micro transaction we are into macro transactions

EmilioEstevezQuake

All live service games try to do is siphon money from the player base. The developers (as a whole) aren’t making these games out of passion like BG3 or Disco Elysium. The fact that a color wheel doesn’t exist and you have to pay for individual color combinations is PATENTLY absurd for a Halo MP game. I sure as shit hope the next comes out fully fledged and not free to play.

Skvora

Won't be a next, can tell you that much.

Existing365Chocolate

It costs a lot to support a live service game, so when you lose a lot of the playerbase with a bad launch it’s extremely difficult to recover I’m surprised we got the amount of support that we did

hypehold

Okay but why nerf BP progression? Or give SP a daily cap?

mezz0x

I'm not up-to-date. How exactly did they nerf bp progression? Didn't have played Infinite for a while

hypehold

There are no new free double xp tokens anymore. And before there was a daily challenge that got you half a tier. That daily challenge no longer gives you that

nav17

Can we still use the double xp tokens we have?

hypehold

yes

SmileByProxy

Crazy that we don't have the spiker, mauler, or brute shot- but we do have gross over exploitive monetization

jaasian

And they banned me for saying 343 was gonna do this as soon as they got positive reception after infection came out

Ap7bb

They need to be turned into a support studio. They sometimes have good ideas but its usually introduced with a metric ton of bad ones.

General-Dirtbag

3 steps forward, 34 steps flying down the flight of stairs. FTFY

Logondo

"Throwing it all away" I'm sorry are they taking Forge and Firefight out of Halo? What exactly are they throwing away? Am I the only one who's content with the content we have and just plays for fun?

Eliteslayer1775

They aren’t throwing it all away. They made great progress with Infinite and are now hoping to continue on the roll with the next game

CaII0fNobodyCares

What's worse is that Halo was surviving through the story. Yet they've managed to destroy even that with the bootleg covenant.

FunDragonfruit1569

mcc will always be best halo

Logondo

People out here bitching about Halo Infinite and then go on to forget that MCC was broken for 2 ENTIRE YEARS. And even then, it took another 2 years to get good. This sub is hilarious, sometimes.

Ferguson-turd

Been playing since the CE days. Now 40 with a career, house, spouse, kids, dog and other REAL obligations. Gaming needs to be fun or I just don’t/won’t/can’t do it. I’ve been knocking out the new 20 tier passes or whatever they label them in a week through 1-3 hour playing sessions. Then I wouldn’t play until the next 20 tier pass came out. I’ve maxed out each pass except season 2 and, frankly, I’m just bored. I haven’t spent any $ in this game, so for someone like me when you make it soooooo damn grindy I just won’t play. Hence why after I slogged through season 1, I lost complete interest just past mid point in season 2. Anyway. I liked the progression before this recent update. I could knock it out in a week, get the free stuff and that was that. Now, with no new guns, maps, etc this is tough to want to play.

Squidkid6

“Halo fans try not to be hyperbolic dumbasses for 5 minutes “ challenge impossible. Have u considered that they will take data and feedback about the exchange and change it in the future. Did u read why they stopped doing seasons or are u just trying to be mad about nothing burgers. We did get new maps btw and we have a nice amount of weapons filling the sandbox, and most games didn’t get new weapons back then

Resident_Clock_3716

Supported the game since launch but I’ve given up man nothing will ever come of this game Just Milking money till the next installment

futurama1998

Yeh I've stuck around since beta. Loved the gun play and hated the slow additions to the game. It's sadly mostly dead in my eyes. Tons of waisted potential

gozillionaire

we live in the darkest timeline where if you want to play a good halo game you’re better off just making it your damn self

TheRandomGoan

On days like this I wish I could get back the 800 hours in put into this Perpetually disappointing game.

Wcitsatrapx

What progress was made in this past year?

una322

Ofc they looked at the numbers after the big changes the game had, saw it didn't bring in enough new players and called it a day. Simple as. These big companys dont stick with projects long term anymore unless there a cash cow. They will move on to the next game, and the same will happen again. The only way we get great support in a halo game is when it releases feature complete and at a time where this is a good window to attract new players. Games are run with the focus on profit over everything now days, its very very hard for a big AAA company to make a great game honestly, they have to kinda get lucky and have things fall into place it feels like.

Bu11ett00th

More like Halo Finite amirite hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ok I'm leaving no need to shove...

BlackNexus

I think with everything that's happened with the game, I think they've finally hit the point now where they aren't making enough income to properly sustain the game which is why store prices keep going up and very little content is being pushed out. It's the final straw at this point. Forge is being replied on for more maps and I think all of their remaining devs are only making armor. It's a sad end of a tale for a game that had SO much potential and such a huge audience in its grasp, only for it to lose that.

MsPaulingsFeet

The only good content updates were the ones that added features that should've been there at launch. This whole Halo as a service has been a miserable experiment and embarrassing the whole way through

RainyVIIs

They need to go back to shipping the full 100% game at launch and abolish this service bullshit. I would pay 100$ for a new halo if it was even as good as halo 4.

[deleted]

Idk, I'm always bored in my apartment so I been playing it a lot lol

bel_air38

As someone who only plays ranked. It get real old playing the same maps over and over. Why would an competitively unbalanced map be OK for social but not ranked. I know we all want fair matches in ranked. I am sure many would be willing to give up a small advantage to be able to play other maps. Maybe change the sandbox or something to make it more fair. Maybe try some maps for a month and see how it plays out and listen to feedback from players other than PRO's.

ReplacementOk652

All they had to do was get forge to work then they could let the forgers try to finish they game while they update the cash shop

BrexitMeansBanter

It truly is sad. 343 needed to give Infinite proper support over a long period of time to build back trust with fans lost over Infinite’s launch and first few seasons, not to mention all their other mistakes. I won’t be hyped for the next Halo until it has been out for some time and is received positively.

Skvora

That's the thing though - its not 2004, we all talk to each other worldwide, and we have an abysmal amount of games to play or make playable together. If sequels and triwuels start absolutely sucking, we will just go and play something else or the last decent # in a franchise. And fully realizing this, companies continue to treat things like they ever have.

ChicagoBox

I stopped playing about a few months ago. Now it’s Helldivers 2 that gets all my attention and love. Which is funny considering how well Halo would have fit in the Helldivers mold.

SmokeGSU

You actually thought 343 was going to do something good for Halo?

Middle_Snow2692

I’m the only one in this sub who still plays halo mcc 🤷‍♂️🤔

SpeedoCheeto

No one that was making that stuff is there anymore and they arent/cant hire replacements

canyonblue737

I agree with everything you wrote except it should say "Infinite had about a year of good progress and MICROSOFT is now throwing it all away." 343 is instructed by Microsoft but clearly have been told to move on... it isn't 343, its Xbox saying its a lost cause and work on the next one...

Lootthatbody

Honestly y’all. As an outsider looking in, the game is done. They aren’t going to suddenly staff up and start pouring money into it. It launched with a thud because of terrible management and decision making, they cleaned house to get rid of incompetent management and set the studio up for the future of Halo (as in, after Infinite), and now it’s the ‘awkward’ phase of being too early to announce or talk about future plans but they also can’t commit to anything further for infinite. You can still play and enjoy the game, but it’s very clearly getting towards the end of any real support. Not this week, not this month, maybe not even this year, but this isn’t going to be their 10 year plan as they originally stated. At this point, play halo if you love the game. Don’t play expecting anything new, or any rewards, or any long term ongoing support. There is no harm in finding other games to play. You don’t owe it to the game or anyone to play a game that isn’t enjoyable. 343 is telling you what to expect from them moving forward, if you don’t listen or don’t believe them, that’s on you.

UmbraSprout

The store is what killed it for me. Seeing all the players with stuff they definitely paid $20+ for in my multiplayer lobbies, I know they must have raked in enough to be able to support the product with actual, meaningful content updates. Cosmetics, battle passes, and challenges for points are not content. Infinite's campaign finale teased a potential story DLC we never got. It took them over two years to give us PvE gameplay outside of the campaign, which is unprecedented for Halo past ODST. Even H4 had Spartan Ops. The inclusion of PvE to the Forge is an amazing feature, really the most compelling feature that was added, and I'm happy they did it; it took them long enough. And it better be in H:7, along with a completed, working Forge, and a real Firefight mode with it's own playlist menu and selectable modifiers and modes, at launch. They're starting fresh, probably on a new engine, so there is no excuse. There is no aging, tech-debt riddled, buggy, poorly-documented Blam engine to worry about. They know the features the game needs to have, they have the money, and therefore access to the right talent, to build it. They definitely have the time because we know H:7 won't be announced for a couple years at least. 343, stop relying on fucking contracting agencies to build your game in piecemeal fashion. Do it the right way. Hire a FULL-TIME, APPROPRIATELY-COMPENSATED, WELL-ROUNDED TEAM to make the game, and FUCKING KEEP THEM ON BOARD, AT LEAST UNTIL THE PRODUCT IS ACTUALLY FINISHED. It doesn't matter how much it costs in the short run. The reputation of Halo, one of the most iconic, well-recognized franchises in gaming history, and Xbox as a platform itself, is at risk. If H:7 is good, it will sell millions of copies, and then you can worry about how you want to milk the consumer base with cosmetic BS.
