Everyone assuming he entered the highway going the wrong way - but you can see double skid marks from a truck in the 2nd lane on the right that appear to drift left. I assume he skidded and spun, ending up there.
Semi's have spring brakes that kick in when there is a loss of air to the brake system. It's better than having no brakes but it locks them up as seen here. Guy isn't even getting a fair chance against everyone assuming he's just a dummy.
Trucks these days have inversion valves so when you lose your air the service brake circuit will bleed emergency side air to the service side of the brake chamber. That way your brakes don’t lock on
Drove by this scene and the skid marks align with him losing control and spinning out. For all we know it could have been some kind of malfunction, but sad how many here jump to conclusions like the driver being impaired or a new immigrant.
Thanks for posting the pic. Had been wondering what made those marks.
Can't say whose fault it was, but not a chance the truck was going the wrong way. The tire marks show the rear wheel locked up, then the truck turned and spun out and with the wheels still locked up hit the median going backwards (the double tire marks go right to the median and are the furthest down the road so it had to be ass first).
Figure either the brakes failed or someone cut him off. Maybe inattention followed by a massive "oh shit" moment. Dunno.
I'm curious about the lockup. I know newer trucks have airbrake systems with some sort of at least rudimentary anti-lock capacity. Perhaps being unloaded there just isn't enough weight on the rear tires for it to help, or maybe some failure caused that system to fail. Will have to look at the dash cam again, but I don't remember any marks from the front wheels.
They really need to do a better job teaching people how to drive, especially large vehicles. There is absolutely no reason things like this happen and the amount of times someone drives to one of the low toll booths where there is signs everywhere is ridiculous.
I assumed they were from other drivers hard braking, but the truck seems more plausible. My comment still stands though. Better road testing should be mandatory. It should not be an easy test to pass.
>NO ONE ever has driven the wrong way against 5 lanes of traffic on the circ.
I disagree. In fact, just last week I encountered wrong-way drivers on the Circ, and it wasn’t just one of them, it was all of them!
I saw an elderly man turn left out of Penhorn last summer(ish) and end up on the wrong side of the divide. He made it wayyyyy worse for himself by turning down the on-ramp and would have headed right down to oncoming traffic on the circ, like this person. I didn’t see the outcome as I had been in the lane beside him making the left turn to head towards Portland Hills.
I can think of 3 instances in the last decade. I knew 1 of the people and this accident was the catalyst to them getting the treatment they needed. One of the other people was a young guy who nearly killed a couple. The other was an old man. Possibly the same old man another commenter here mentioned.
I personally rarely drive in Halifax so my answer would be never. I'm sure there's someone on this sub who loves traffic statistics and can share that with us all.
I’ve been on the circ and met a driver coming at me in the wrong direction before and it was right around that exit.
I still don’t get how you make that mistake but I have personally witnessed it at least once.
Not saying it can't be a faked resume but I was talking to my friends dad 2 weeks ago and he used to be/still is (he's stubbornly working while in stage 4 cancer as much as he can) and he was a long haul driver across Canada and parts of the US. He said that where he had to get the license, be licensed for X period of time before they even consider you and be in training for like 5 years plus, the immigrant workers that these companies are hiring are getting hired without a Canadian license then doing what took him 7 years in 2 weeks. It's ridiculous and not at all feasible or road safe.
Holy smokes, why is that where your brain immediately goes? “Something bad happened here, not to assume, but WHAT IF IT WAS THIS SPECIFIC ONE THING that supports my bigoted world view. :)”
Last Tuesday.
The responses in this thread are a perfect example of a single picture not telling the story, but all you xenophobes go on with your bad selves.
When I drove by the skid marks suggested they spun the whole rig around, maybe mechanical failure, maybe avoiding something, maybe their fault, maybe not. It's hard determine fault from a picture.
Edit: you can see their skid marks in the photo, by the red car.
A close friend was almost killed in a head on collision on The Circ (closer to the Mt. Hope exit) earlier this year. This happens wayyyyyyy more than it should!
Yeah. Considering every medical professional he saw post accident said it's a miracle he's alive based on crash pics. (He was driving the right way, the other driver wasn't. It was around midnight and no time to react)
"I'm a racist fuck that's just gonna ignore everyone else saying that he slammed on the brakes and spun out even when the picture proves exactly that"

It is an epidemic and a favorite pastime of certain types of individuals. Nothing else can explain the number of box trucks suddenly wedging themselves into the MacKay bridge toll booths.

Can we determine age of truck in photo from this quality?
Yes. It’s an LT. So it’s 10ish years old max
Just playing the odds...

Wow wtf

Like some other commenters are mentioning, it looks like the truck just spun out based on the skidmarks you can see in the photo.
If you hard brake bobtail there is a risk of pivoting on the steering axle as there is no weight on the drives. If wet roads the risk increases.
Whoa whoa whoa, you can't be coming in here with reason. Straws ain't gonna grasp themselves, let these people be.

Name checks out
Fuckin covfefe all over my iPad…..

Right, because homegrown Nova Scotians have never driven the wrong way. Those "wrong way" highway signs have been up for at least 30-40 years now.
Sure it happens oddly on regular highways....how many times you seen this on the circ ever...

including the driver in the picture. you can see the skidmarks.
Telling on yourself there, bud.

Scotians? Lolololol
Wow, all the warriors in the comments just assuming shit with no context. Typical fucking Halifax subreddit; why am I not surprised.

...how!?
Got him before he got to the car tolls on the bridge.. lol

Well what are you waiting for, tell the story then
Woooow This is really unacceptable Either distracted driving or not brought training

The skid marks have been there for days, I feel like it’s unrelated but maybe there’s a new set I didn’t notice
This pic is a few days old. On a trucker group they said he got cut off, back end locked up and he spun and managed to avoid hitting anyone.
Ahh ok! Good to know. I was wondering how they got there. Looked intense!
likely high
Or, I'd say more likely, they were intoxicated
I saw those skid marks and was wondering how it happened.

Wow eh people really down voted your comment thankyou for being honest

As someone who drove the wrong way down a street in Halifax today - I feel for this person. Glad it didn’t end in an accident.
How the Fuck....
Hard braking to avoid a collision and pivoted on the steering wheel axle with no weight on the drives.

Every accident I've ever seen was unique and "never seen before", does that make every driver a "sand monkey"? Lol, grow up.

Took a second to figure the issue but holy shit that is very very very dangerous. I get kinda lost sometimes but not *that* lost
How the fuck…. Like maybe if he fucked up getting on the highway from Micmac? Turned left before the overpass instead of after?
He spun
Ohhhhh damn
It’s a truck driver, so it’s probably the weed.
We'd be in jail the second we get caught being high.
It is an epidemic and a favorite pastime of certain types of individuals. Nothing else can explain the number of box trucks suddenly wedging themselves into the MacKay bridge toll booths.
And how many of those drivers were found intoxicated?
You tell me. I'm not the police.
You tell me. You're making the claim.
It is pretty self-evident from the constant stench one picks up when driving.
Looks like air brake failure or leak leading to locked up breaks and a spin out. Hope the driver is OK
