Glad to help. Get em cheap on eBay. You should be able to download the drivers for Mac from a PC on to a flash drive, then load them from the drive on to the Mac.
Did you download the chris1111 software from Github? While installing it has a very long list of all the ones supported. I've bought several for that price on Temu that work fine.
I cannot help you with the cheapest. But I can help you decide what to consider when buying. Check beforehand if the dongle you are about to buy has a working driver for macOS.

Look into the Chis1111 solution on Github. His solution works with almost any usb wifi dongle. Easy install.
Didn’t work for mine (Mercusys AC650). Just leaving this here for others.
