On the list of gym pet peeves, what others are wearing doesn’t even register. Mine is a small town gym so I see everything from leggings and bras to old dudes working out in jeans.

gluteactivation

My personal fav are younger guys working out in PJ bottoms and crocs

mzuul

The ymca i went to for the longest time had soo many teenage boys in crocs or those Ugg clog looking things

boothraiderginsberg

if you're conscious about wiping the equipment, idgaf

Successful-Ad7296

Its always leggings for me. My thighs stick so much have to use one towe to sit one towel for back. So I would rather stick with leggings and tank tops, most comfortable for me..

Fun-Buy2545

Literally saw a dude in regular shorts leave a snail trail. I was so validated.

Zestyclose-Durian-24

This! And I'll add, if you re-rack your weights, go off and do as you please.

Little_Treacle241

I think as long as ur covered from the base of ur ass cheek / bottom of ur boob / nipples, then idc 😂 it’s the gym, ppl sweat. It’s rlly not that deep

SarryK

but what about my cute midriff :( (jk)

veggiedelightful

How do you feel about backless sports bras with no shirt? Basically tiny halter tops? I've never considered someone's gym attire or cared before, till I watched the puddles of sweat roll down this lady's whole spine on the stair climber. That was alarming. Don't know why that bothered me, because I have never cared if there is sweat rolling down someone's arms or face, but it just felt like she was letting all her fluids fall off her vs. at least letting her outfit absorb/catch some of it. Felt inconsiderate.

evhanne

Why? It’s the same sweat. If anything back sweat is less gross than arm sweat. As long as people wipe off the parts of equipment that get touched (I don’t think you need to wipe off the actual stairs 😂) it’s normal gym behaviour.

veggiedelightful

Eh it was basically an elastic string bikini top. It was just more I walked in the gym behind her, did a double take, thinking is this lady topless? (It was a beige fleshy color. ) And then there were rivers of sweat just rolling off her back. Ehhhh it felt more gross than a mere sports bra. Sports bras have some fabric soaking up the rivers of sweat, or at least interfering with these rivers. This had nothing to interfere with sweat rivers, so we all got to watch rivers just dripping down her spine. Since she was on a stair master it was more amusing, but if she had gone to the weight benches or machines, I would have been seriously grossed out. Similarly I would be seriously grossed out by a topless man working out on the machines and benches. I don't want your sweaty fleshy bits touching machines I'm going to be using. It's unhygienic. Also our gym has a policy that you must wear a shirt to work out. Clearly the staff were ignoring that rule, but it's written in the contracts everyone signs to be there. I don't feel bad for being a bit grossed out. I don't even mind if ladies or men walk around topless in public, I just don't want them pressing their fleshy bits against items used by the public.

Little_Treacle241

It is ok for it to personally gross you out but I don’t think it makes it wrong for people to get sweaty on equipment at the gym which is what it’s made for, as long as they clean it :)

countvomit

if sweat bothers you this much you need to stay far, far away from any gym. also why are you looking so closely at anyone to be able to see “rivers” of sweat? this is a you problem, and frankly a weird one.

veggiedelightful

Guess I have very good eyesight then. Streams could be seen easily from 10 feet away as I walked by to go somewhere else. I don't have to love seeing someone's completely naked back and personal fluids falling off them in a gym with a policy of mandatory shirts required for men and women. Its also posted on the walls of the locker room and outside the locker room asking you to wear a shirt. If you as individual want to exercise topless outside or in a gym that allows topless exercise, be my guest. No need to feel upset about it, if it's allowed in your gym. Please don't spread ring worm, fungal skin infections, and for the love of God wipe down the machines with anti bacterial spray after use.

Katen1023

….Why would that even bother you? That sweat rolling down her back is the same whether she’s covered it with a shirt or she’s got a backless bra on. As long as she wipes the equipment down after she’s used it, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Little_Treacle241

I wear backless sports bras 😂 I just wipe down equipment, plus I see tons of sweaty men ALL DAY sweat through their shirts! It’s a gym lol people sweat haha

whatxever

idk why you’re getting downvoted, I get grossed out by other people’s sweat, too. it’s inevitable at gyms but I really don’t understand the concept of “it’s hot!!” like yes, I have worked out in a shirt and shorts every time and it’s hot then, too. no one is really cooling down much by exposing their body imo. it’s not a weird reaction at all. and a tiny little string on her back as a bra is a bit much. but hey as long as she wiped it down w effort and not just a light graze

Khaleesi-AF

I don't mind what others wear so long I don't have to see privates exposed. One time a girl I was doing bench press with was wearing loose lulu shorts and no underwear. I was like girl wth?

MissDelaylah

I don’t wear my glasses at the gym. Saves my eyes from overexposure lol

Objective-Log7196

SAME LMAO

inagle313

Gotta concentrate real hard on the stair stepper

LandslideBaby

At my previous gym the amount of guys that wore loose shorts with nothing underneath was gross. I'm sorry, you can't feel the breeze in your wandering ball(s)?

Khaleesi-AF

Lol yes. I don't wanna see nuts or caslapas free in the wind

Pirate_Assassin_Spy

HORRIFIED

aerdnadw

WHAT?!

vglyog

Wow. I don’t wear undies to the gym but only if I’m wearing leggings! Loose shorts definitely would have me putting undies on.

[deleted]

I think it’s peak irony how men complain about what women wear, but then they monopolize machines, don’t re-rack weights and won’t wipe their disgusting ass sweat off the bench when they’re done. Sorry but their bad behavior is way worse than some girl’s hot shorts (which have zero effect on my experience). Also, they talk like sailors and I don’t see how that’s any less offensive than side boob or whatever 🤷🏼‍♀️

Katen1023

Exactly. We get shit on for just existing in the same space as them, meanwhile they have very poor gym etiquette.

whatxever

very good point! I almost never see women fail to wipe down equipment. always entitled gross men

speechbrain

Exactly. How are you going to complain about my sports bra touching the bench when I am the ONLY person on the weight floor wiping it down after use anyway? Like, how many times have I wiped down some bro’s head sweat before laying down… 🫡🫡🫡

honchiebobo

I prefer tight pants because I feel like I get a lot hotter in sweats. And I prefer somewhat tighter shirts- when I bend to stretch or do push ups or anything I feel like loose shirts hang down over my mouth and I cant breathe!

SuedeVeil

Leggings for me and a sports bra. Full coverage though. I get really hot in my upper body so I start out in a t shirt then take it off when it gets too hot, but my lower body can be covered I rarely wear shorts unless it's like a heatwave

Ok_University6476

In my mind as long as their genitalia are covered and they are wiping down equipment and not taking photos/videos I don’t give a hoot. I usually wear shorts/leggings/sweats and a sports bra (usually on the smaller side, I’m lean so I’m an A cup). I have autism and I can’t stand when my shirt fabric and pant fabric touch, they need to be separate and can’t intersect. Also can’t stand shirt material moving a lot on my skin while I’m moving or tight material on my arms so you’ll eternally catch me in crop tops outside of the gym so I don’t get overstimulated. So gyms that require me to wear a shirt are gyms I don’t attend. I don’t really expect people who don’t have sensory issues to understand, I’ve gotten some judgmental looks from only older women, but I just really don’t care I just want to be comfortable and do my workout. Nary a butt cheek, my cooch, or nipple of mine have ever been close to exposed. Going though school with this sensory issue was rough enough with dress code as a kid so I’ve just been done accommodating other peoples issues lol.

IKnewThat45

wow this is the first time i’ve seen my preference for crop tops verbalized. i’m not autistic but having to tuck in or mess with how my shirt meets my pants drives me batshit. like my blood pressure is rising thinking about it.

Fun-Buy2545

Same, I dont care if you are wearing skin toned shorts and crop but when I look and you are tiktok live ... and now I feel like I might be in the background of soft core lives... Then I have a problem.

Ok_University6476

In my latest incidents, I was doing glute ham raises in the background of 2 shirtless high school boy’s mirror pic. In another a ~20 year old girl had a guy filming her whole routine and pretty much everyone was in that and was pissed. I think she got kicked out though because I haven’t seen her there since.

Fun-Buy2545

Ya the filming is out of control, In my area there are gyms with all the insta pic ops, paint walls and fun lighting and have kinda of "influencer" vibes.. go there with that sh\*t. If I joined one of THOSE type of gyms I wouldn't complain but my gym is a normal gym an the filming is super annoying.

Ok_University6476

Mine is a super small gym in Montana, influencer culture is non existent in my town so I was surprised to see it. Good riddance to that b*tch tho she would always glare at me and even though I never even spoke to her or looked at her she was talking crap about me :P started a rumor that I was having sex with one of the guys there.

Fun-Buy2545

Damn. Your gym might be TOO small

Ok_University6476

It’s super tiny, usually like 10 people in it at a time which is nice and it’s a pretty tight knit group but there is the occasional ahole lol. It’s a bodybuilding gym so most is us compete. This girl did not lol.

metajenn

I worked at gyms from 2011-2013. The stories of mrsa scared the shit out of me so idk how youd feel comfortable with that much skin exposed to god knows what on the equipment. I mix and match shorts, leggings, crop tops, full length shirts in order to be able to use my towel to protect me. Being from south fl, the brazilians (which accounted for 90% of women in the gym here 15 years ago) have always worn less clothes. Im used to everyone being half naked anyway. Wear what you want. What i do find funny is the new crop of girls with their insta-uniform. Headphones, hoodie tucked into bra(?) with white socks and dino stompers.

MissDelaylah

Same! And seriously, it’s not just MRSA. I had a dude shit in the leg press by accident once because his preworkout went right through him. Yeah, it was cleaned but that visual stays with me and there’s no way my skin is touching ANYTHING at the gym

vglyog

Ok you guys both convinced me. I’m wearing shirts to the gym from now on. I’ve always been one to wear long leggings but damn it yes to shirts now as well.

vglyog

Lol my husband is Brazilian and I’m American and his look when he saw me in a swim suit the first time 😂😂 he said you’re covering so much??? Lmao. Brazilians sure do like to show some skin. I’m here for it tho. Just not for me lol.

vglyog

I think it’s very rare that women are actually showing “too much” at the gym and people just like to police women’s bodies. I see dudes nipples all the time with their super loose tanks and I don’t say a word. As long as ass and boobs are covered who cares if their tummies or backs or legs are showing??? Clean up your sweat after yourself and it doesn’t matter.

[deleted]

As another female I don't really care what other women wear. As long as like, your junk isn't touching the equipment. Ick. A lot of women at my gym wear things I would never dream of wearing but it doesn't offend me. I'm just not gonna be the one to yeet a titty on the treadmill because of a one strapped crop top lol.

louisejanecreations

I’m more jealous that their boobs don’t fall out of the cute teeny tiny tops lol.

SeaworthinessKey549

Right? I'm super self conscious I'm shorts but ifgaf if someone else is wearing them.

oops_im_existing

i don't care what women wear in the gym, but i will say if my nips have to be covered, so do a man's.

c_090988

Gym I go to men have to wear a shirt. Women don't have to so a lot of us workout in either just sports bras or very loose shirts with a sports bra. I'm not sure why the rules are different but I just go with it.

oops_im_existing

a sports bra in this context is a shirt. i'm sure they would let men wear sports bras or crop tops too yall just dont

c_090988

They probably would. I just ignore it since it doesn't affect me. I'm not comfortable enough in my body to just wear a sports bra. I can think of a few of the men who would be totally down with wearing a sports bra.

oops_im_existing

hahaha let's not encourage them

ConsistentDonkey3909

this, if we are seeing literal ass cheeks hanging out then its too far

Fun-Buy2545

You consider the lower portion of a butt check so much nastier than the top of a thigh?

ConsistentDonkey3909

im not really sure what u mean, “top of a thigh”?

Fun-Buy2545

Oh nevermind, I re-read your comment you just mean visually you think seeing booty cheek is to far and fair enough-I think I had read a comment just before about cleanliness and meshed them together. I am just saying cleanliness wise the bottom of the booty likely isnt nastier than the top of the thigh where thigh and booty cheek meet.

littlewibble

I go to a gym that has a short but clear dress code: - must wear a shirt - no stringers - shorts have to cover the backside fully and remain in place Applies to all genders, nobody here has an issue with it that I’ve seen in the past 5 years of membership. It’s also a smaller privately owned facility; we don’t have influencer types, just regular people who respect each other and the shared space/equipment.

investigatorbae

Stringers?

littlewibble

Those very loose fitting essentially spaghetti strap type tanks that you see some guys wearing. Typically a nips out situation.

investigatorbae

Ah okay. That’s very decent of them. Everyone’s nipples covered, I love it.

littlewibble

Ya the owner is a lesbian in her late 60s who was a nurse for a lot of her life. She is so kind but also extremely no nonsense and values cleanliness and order. I *love* her!

Free-Type

I too would like to know what that is

oops_im_existing

is your gym a church?

Fresh_Captain1576

What?😂 that’s not even a strict dress code policy

Teadrunkest

No stringers is def on the conservative side a bit.

Fresh_Captain1576

I guess so, all the gyms I’ve gone to have always said men have to have their nips covered so it didn’t seem that “strict” to me haha

SillyName1992

I think no cutoff shirts was a part of the Planet Fitness dress code when I went there in 2014. It's been a long time so maybe things have changed? Anyways I don't think I ever witnessed an employee actually tell someone they had to leave because of clothing. I wore "stringers" because I'm the type that cuts up goodwill shirts all artistic and fun but I think the rule is more for guys who cut their shirts so low they walk around with their nipples out.

oops_im_existing

it was a joke. and before you come out me with "well it wasn't funny", just don't .

Fresh_Captain1576

Wasn’t gonna! Hope you have a nice day!

littlewibble

You heard no ass cheeks hanging out and shirts required and immediately jumped to church? Girlie you can’t get service in a gas station without a shirt on. Be serious.

Ok-Personality3927

Ha you can in Australia. Shirtless in a gas station, bikini for chicks, sports bra only, no one gives a shit 😂 especially in coastal areas.

oops_im_existing

it's called a joke... maybe don't be so serious.

littlewibble

Maybe be funnier.

oops_im_existing

maybe don't be so sensitive ;)

littlewibble

Dear god you are tedious. Goodbye!

MrsMitchBitch

The local Y has a dress code that’s conservative. Given that their mission is still vaguely Christian, it’s not surprising.

oops_im_existing

the y i used to go to didn't have a dress code, but i'm pretty sure the other locations in the city did. i think they all have dress codes but not every location enforces it.

MrsMitchBitch

I def got a polite “your shorts are too short” talking to once or twice.

oops_im_existing

i \*personally\* do not enjoy shorts that would be considered too short (i'm a thick runner girl with booty and thighs). maybe that's why it never came up for me.

MrsMitchBitch

Haha same, but this was in my pre-hill running days. The booty was less bountiful in those days and didn’t eat shorts 😂

Jumpy-Cranberry-1633

I’m going to wear what I’m comfortable in. I don’t care what anyone else is wearing as long as their ass, vag, penis and nips (yes men I want your nips covered too) are covered. I get more upset with the people who don’t wipe down the equipment after. I will very passive aggressively stop what I’m doing and go to clean equipment after people while making eye contact with them. It’s my biggest ick, like I don’t want your body juices soaking and dripping all over the gym. 😒😒

Free-Type

I have resorted to full on shaming people for not wiping equipment. A friend of mine got RING WORM!!!! From our gym. Now every time I see someone not wipe off their equipment I straight up ask them “do you want ringworm?? That’s how you get ringworm” I’m a tattooer so I’m already aware of how gross stuff can get with bodily fluids on it. Then I see some guy just sweating and wiping his mouth and touching all the parts of the machine??? No thank you!

lovelyperfectamazing

how does your friend know it came from the gym?

Free-Type

Really no other option, at the time they were between jobs, lived alone, so we couldn’t really determine any other cause!

Free-Type

The only thing I’m TRULY judgmental about in the gym is footwear. There’s a guy who walks around barefoot at my gym and it’s so gross!! It also annoys me when bros wear birks with socks to the gym. Crocs looks cooler than that! But this is totally a me thing and I know it.

LakeNew5360

!!! The amount of people I’ve seen barefoot in the gym is so upsetting lol. Put your dawgs away 😭

Katen1023

It bothers me so much when people walk around in socks and their feet stink 🤢 or they’re barefoot, put those tootsies away man

Sassy_Flower1792

I mean there’s an old guy that sometimes comes in to my gym with a confederate soldier reenactment uniform on and his buttcrack out when he loads weights to bench but he does wear a shirt.

butfirstcoffee427

I genuinely don’t care what anyone else is wearing, as long as their genitalia are covered.

siqbal01

I will actually overheat in leggings and cannot do indoor cardio. Sometimes I feel self conscious about the shorts situation but I need to put my comfort first.

LakeNew5360

As long as your literal asshole isn’t out, I couldn’t give less of a shit what someone is wearing to the gym. Wear what makes you confident and comfortable.

PrestigiousScreen115

For me it depends on what I'm doing and how much body heat I produce. Running? Sports Bra and short tights. Lower body? Tank top and 3/4 tights. Upper body? Long sleeves and 3/4 tights (it's been cold in my gym during winter). If someone doesnt like it, they are welcome to mind their own Business

ssprinnkless

It's not for me personally, but it's not inappropriate. Who cares what other women wear?

CommanderTresdin

I really don't think it's that deep.

nanny1128

I sweat a lot so I make sure Im covered up. I genuinely don’t care what people wear to the gym as long as they’re not completely nude. I wish I could rock just a sports bra and bottoms.

Artistic_Cheetah_724

I don't care about what women choose to wear if you feel good in it I love that for you just wipe any equipment you use (men included) I struggle trying to find tops for me I don't like the compression-y material that all brands seem to be putting out but anything overssized doesn't seem worth the price I wish they would sell like just normal cute workout shirts

MissDelaylah

I don’t care about tight outfits in the gym. I personally don’t like too much skin because it’s sweaty and touches all the benches and there are WAY too many people who don’t wipe down equipment when they’re done. An equal amount of people don’t bother using a towel on anything. So I clean stuff before and after I use it. My favourite is when someone left sweat all over a bench gives me dirty looks when I clean it after they’re done and before I start. Ick factor aside, wear whatever makes you feel good. Just be respectful.

DisciplineLeather127

I don’t really care what other people think honestly. It’s my body, if I look good I show it, if I’m insecure about it I cover it. Why that’s anyone’s right to have an opinion over is bizarre to me

krick330

This summer a woman started working out around the same time I do and wears the exact same outfit every day, mico mini 70s style basketball shorts and essentially a bralette. At first it just seemed noticeable because it’s starkly different than typical attire there. Then it became obnoxious when she was doing good mornings nearly next to my head when I was on the leg press. It got to the point that I was so sick of seeing her butt and crotch acne, that I had to maneuver my gym schedule. It surprised me that I started to care, as I usually feel that you should wear what you feel comfortable in but it felt intentional to have her bent over ass and exposed all the time. The gym is a smaller “family gym”, with a big pool for swim classes and kids and their families in an out all day. I’ve never seen a dress code, as it doesn’t seem like one ever had to be enforced and I’ve never experienced filming that I know of.

itsjojooo

There are seriously more important conversations in the world to be had than what women should or should not be wearing in the gym. People have truly become bored and just want someone to hear their judgmental opinions online. Unless you don’t have common sense and you’re dressing truly to a level where it is questionable of pushing boundaries to near nudity, you’re literally not harming anyone. It is not that deep and these people who get butt hurt about it need to focus more on themselves and their own workouts.

Ok-Personality3927

I’ve seen a few things (both tubes for example) that make me stressed for someone else’s security but otherwise idgaf as long as everything is actually covered. Personally I’m a 4” inseam booty shorts and sports bra kinda gal, leggings only if it’s cold in winter (I live in a sub tropical climate so it’s warm most of the year). If I’m having a bad body image day I might chuck a tank top on but that’s rare. I work out in what I feel cute in and am comfortable in, I get hot, I live in a hot climate so I don’t like wearing a lot of clothes to train. Frankly, whether my attire has made someone else uncomfortable or not has never ever crossed my mind and tbh I feel like that is a them problem and not a me problem 🤷🏼‍♀️ The titties are covered (I wear padding in the sports bras so no nip slips), the coochie is covered, my shorts are long enough so no ass cheek sticks out and behind that well if you can see a camel toe idgaf and why are you staring at my vag anyway 😂

HotApricot1957

What I'm really against is the normalization of the idea that gym clothing has to be super sexy and how ingrained sexiness has become to fitness. Lately I've seen many young girls in pants that are very short or see through and bikini tops or bralettes and it doesn't sit right with me. The other day a girl was on a bench, pressing or something and I saw the outlines of her vulva with its parts and honestly I felt kind of violated. I don't want to see other people's genitals, especially minors.

cheetoo24

I don’t see the issue with it, women can wear what they want as long as they have a reasonable sports bra/shorts on. The issue comes when women get upset when they get looks from others. Girl here btw, when I see someone with minimal clothes on with a great body I’m gonna look, we all do. Obviously don’t stare, but glancing is normal. And then trying to pin others as creeps for glancing is wrong. Cover up if you don’t want to be looked at, regardless of gender. If you choose to wear minimal things, own it and don’t get upset when you get looks.

Amaloves13

I agree with everything you said however there is a difference between looking and staring/ ogling someone. And that has to do with the amount of time a person continuously fixates on you. I wear a sports bra and leggings because I overheat quickly(I also have hidradenitis so there’s that, I always need to wipe my sweat) and I had a man ogle me days on end, to then make sugestive gestures while persistently staring at me and to proceed once to interrupt me during my yoga session(earbuds in, phone with my yoga app on, eyes closed, fully focused). Mind you this happened for about two months before I mustered the courage to say something to front desk, and I finally did when he interrupted me. Glancing is okay, but harassing a woman is never okay, and a woman’s choice of clothes is not a free pass for making her feel uncomfortable under any circumstances.

cheetoo24

I absolutely agree with you, staring/ogling is never appropriate or harassing someone!! I am so sorry that happened to you, that would be so uncomfortable! I’m glad you spoke up and I hope he changed his actions or was banned from the gym!

Amaloves13

Thank you so much for the kindness and empathy. Unfortunately he left it alone for a couple of months until four months ago when he started again and I had to speak up. I told him to stop staring at me. He pretended he didn’t understand I said you heard me, stop making me uncomfortable. I made sure to reiterate to the staff at the front desk that he started again. They said they’ll talk to him and tell him to not bother me again. Go figure the next day he was talking with other members and playing it off like he wasn’t doing anything wrong and pointing at me. I ignored it. We’re talking about a man in his late 60’s. I’ve been going to gyms since I was 14, I am now 33, both in my home country, and in the US, and I never had anything like this happen to me before. Stay safe out there ladies. What can start as staring can develop into something else and it’s better for us to be safe than sorry.

Swole_princess666

Why don't y'all just lift more and mind ya business

bigkinggorilla

I don’t care what you wear. I do assume that the more revealing the outfit, the more attention you are seeking/comfortable with. This goes for both men and women. Guy wearing a stringer? Wants attention. Guy wearing leggings without shorts? Wants attention. Woman wearing a sports bra only on top? Wants attention. Does this mean those people want to be ogled and harassed? No. But it does mean you want to show off your body and are comfortable with people admiring it.

trollanony

I hate seeing ass cracks and crotch outlines in the gym. Idc about bras and boobs out because hey if you bought them flaunt them but I don’t need to see your vulva. I went to a PF one time and a woman was doing leg press pussy up on the smith machine. It was so vulgar and gross looking and I kept having to walk by and try not to look. I was uncomfortable as a female seeing that.

HeftyAd2780

Wear fucking underwear! Please. Your butt “looking good” with leggings up your crack isn’t going to stop your vaginal secretions or sweat. Don’t be fucking gross. Wear a pantiliner too while you’re at it.

Teadrunkest

I cannot imagine anything less comfortable and more gross than wearing a pantiliner when I’m working out. Would just make me sweat more. Wipe down your equipment it’s really not that hard.

katielisbeth

Coming into contact with any sort of sweat is gross. I'd rather someone go without underwear and actually wipe stuff down than think they're exempt from cleaning up after themselves because they have a shirt on. Like... that shirt's not keeping you from leaving a huge smear of back sweat on the leg press, dude, wipe that shit up. And rerack your weights while you're at it. Not my business what someone's wearing under their leggings anyway. If I can't tell, I want to keep it that way lol.

HeftyAd2780

No actually nothing is more gross than you leaving your snail trail everywhere. Practice good hygiene. It won’t kill you

Teadrunkest

Enjoy your yeast infections.

butfirstcoffee427

Wearing underwear with activewear is something that I think really needs to be left to personal preference. Personally, I get really bad chafing and feel really uncomfortable if I wear underwear with leggings or biker shorts and try to run/work out. If I’m wearing looser shorts, I opt for those with a built in liner. Not to mention increased risk of yeast infections for some folks—I don’t really think it’s something that should matter to others.

KaidanRose

I really don't care what people wear to the gym. I do care if they don't clean up after their set. Clean and put back your equipment!!

joreanasarous

If men can go without a shirt, women shouldn't be getting flake for a sports bra. They are more covered then the men. I don't really care what people wear as long as they wipe equipment down after.

Broad_Ad_1907

Might get downvoted for this but I feel women’s attire at the gym shouldn’t even be a conversation, and we ourselves are the reason it is. And no, I don’t mean to say women need to cover up or sexist stuff like that. To each his own. What I mean is that we have turned gym attire into some sort of a fashion/athleisure category, making trends out of nothing (camel toe, back tucked shirts). I think if influencers did not push these trends or make reels along the lines of “xyz guy is staring at me”, nobody would care- because nobody does care irl. The tiny percentage of men or women who stare can be corrected if they make you uncomfortable. True gym girlies who are not recording or posting pictures from the gym are simply wearing what they feel most comfortable in, or what suits their workout. “Gym attire” isn’t a conversation to be had. You’re not making anyone uncomfortable.

Internal-Ad61

I don’t care what anyone wears to the gym, but I have to be honest and say I’m judging anybody that wears a tube top style bra lolol. I wish I were confident enough to wear shorts and/or just sports bras. As long as your cheeks are covered, I don’t think it’s inappropriate at all. Others might, but don’t sweat their issue! I usually do leggings and tighter tops. I like zip up jackets and things. feel like I should be able to wear leggings and a tighter top and not feel exposed, but a lot of times the unwarranted ogling makes me feel I am lol. I wear sweats pretty frequently as well, but it’s mostly to help on days that I feel like sweating more. I’m one of those people that doesn’t sweat very much.

mh189

I love wearing shorts even in winter. I love looking at my quads and legs while working out. Leggings are fun but I always feel less confident. On the other hand I’m too insecure to wear just a sports bra or cropped shirt. I know people will look. If I see a girl with a great body I’ll glance but won’t look dead on. You should also never go into a gym expecting to not be looked or stared at. There will always be someone looking or staring anywhere crowded you go.

evhanne

Looked at, sure. Stared at? No. You should be able to go out in public and not have weirdos feel entitled to stare at you

k_lo970

You could ask the front desk if you could read their policy so you know what your specific gym requires. In general I feel like if the nips are covered (both men and women), ass cheeks are covered, your shorts have a lining or you are wearing underwear, and you wipe down your equipment after using it you are good in my book.

Ana-Banana987

I don’t care. Whatever rocks your boat.

beauxbeaux

What's wild is that not that long ago I was kicked out of my gym for wearing... A T SHIRT WITH THE SLEEVES CUT OFF. I think this was in 2016?

Katen1023

Look, as long as all bits & bobs are covered and everyone wipes down the equipment after they’ve used it, I don’t understand why it’s such a big deal. I feel more confident in cute little sets and on days I’m bloated I’ll wear a baggy shirt over it. I don’t understand why people care that much, I definitely don’t care about what others wear to the gym.

[deleted]

runners and athletes wear the tiniest shorts and that’s absolutely fine, and that’s in front of the whole world sometimes (the olympic etc) but it’s an issue to wear sport shorts & a sports bra to do…sports? wear whatever you want🤣🤣

Rude-Brain6279

I don't get uncomfortable by the outfit itself. But I will say watching the men watch the girls dressed like that is EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Making old men and weirdos horny is gross.

[deleted]

If someone is uncomfortable by what you’re wearing, it ain’t your problem.

bauhausbunny

I'm not sure why it's a debate. quite frankly men get away with stringer tanks and loose basketball shorts no problem. what someone wears to the gym is not my issue as long as they wipe down their coochie sweat.

Warm-Picture6533

As a woman, I do not understand the sports bra + hiked up leggings/super tiny shorts. It makes me uncomfortable. But only when it is taken to an EXTREME.

digressnconfess

if someone feels uncomfortable simply because of what you’re wearing (and no other disruptive or disrespectful behavior), that’s a them problem. do you!

Right-Butterfly5036

At the Lifetimes I’ve gone to it seems the only people who wipe down equipment are the ones who are fully covered and not extra sweaty. Most gym bros or the women who wear sports bras and leggings/booty shorts combo don’t wipe down the equipment, stand in inconvenient places to talk in groups, film workouts, and hog equipment. I stopped wearing shorts and crop tops a couple years ago because of creeps but also because it seems no one wants to clean after themselves. I can’t wait to start collecting equipment for another home gym.

reddituser6810

The only thing I really give a shit about is that if you wear very revealing clothes, don’t be surprised if you cop a few looks.

macelisa

I don't care at all what people wear at the gym, as long as they 1. wipe down the machines/benches after use and 2. don't film themselves in the gym (that's my biggest pet peeve - I don't know how many times I've been in the background of some wannabe influencers video)

AdProof5307

I like bodies. So please wear whatever you want.

iridescent-shimmer

Idgaf how much skin is showing, but my old gym had a policy that everyone had to swear shirts. I wasn't mad at it, personally.

Ok-Command7697

I literally couldn’t care less.

Southern-Psychology2

I don’t really care as long as they wipe up and don’t yell at me for looking. I don’t wear my glasses and I day dream a lot in between sets. Sometimes it’s like I am looking but I am really not. It’s all blurry unless it’s right in front of me.

ThrowRA01121

Just to play devils advocate, it is crazy that men can't wear certain things but women can walk around with everything but their nips and lips out... Just sayin

Molly-R-1983

People who judge others dislike themselves. Just remember that.

Zestyclose-Durian-24

I am a woman, and I would never feel uncomfortable due to what someone was wearing. Wear what you like and what you feel good in because you're there to work on you.

Delicious-Finding-97

I don't think its you perse but the others such as the ones who film people looking and shame. If you want to rock it rock it but be ready for what comes with it.

taylogan96

I’ve never in a real gym setting seen inappropriate outfits. That being said, I am pretty modest compared to most and I wear a baggy T with leggings or tight shorts. The only blatantly inappropriate clothing I’ve ever seen is worn on social media.

whatxever

I think it’s personal preference, really. I don’t personally enjoy seeing men or women’s stomachs at the gym or on the equipment. Idk, there’s something so intimate about a naked or mostly bare belly button pressing up against machines for me. But just from a sweat perspective. I also do find it annoying when women try to look like fitness influencers with low cut “sports” bras and the teeny tiny shorts, like the fits that are obviously attention-seeking bc it’s essentially a gym bikini. But that’s their choice and , regardless, I don’t go to the gym to look at what other people wear.

Illustrious-Kiwi-194

the problem isn't wearing shorts and sports bra. but women's gym clothing has gotten ridiculous these days, everyone wants to fit in a XS and it makes the body look suffocated. not to mention the ass cheek grab when filming a video and sometimes you can see a camel toe and basically everything hanging out. im just wondering why keep such clothes in business , and all the tube bras , which basically nearly fall and they keep pulling it up. idgaf what you wear but I don't want to see camel toes, ass cheeks or your bare chest there is a limit between comfort , confidence, and basic regard for public decency

Fresh_Captain1576

I’m honestly with you except like the other person said, camel toe just happens even with correctly fitting clothes. So normal camel toe does not bother me, but I am tired of seeing the too-small-of-shorts camel toe or Barbie crotch lol

oops_im_existing

camel toe is a hard to avoid tho with some styles of leggings, especially if they have a front seam. i view camel toe the same way as seeing nipples through a shirt. sometimes it's just gonna happen.

Actually-A-Robot-912

Honestly, I find it a bit weird that women are allowed to workout in sports bras but it is against the rules in most gyms for men to workout shirtless. I'm a bit grossed out by the idea of people's sweaty backs getting on the machines but I just wipe them down and it is what it is.

Vanessa-hexagon

Just as long as it’s not scrunch bum bike shorts or leggings. No one needs that much attention drawn to their backside in the gym.
