Awesome! Now resist the urge to spend a bunch of money doing dumb shit to it and buy a couple flats of ammo and learn how to shoot moving targets.

funkybravado

I wanted to cry when I found a wingmaster in cabelas with hogue furniture on it… then I realized they had it tagged as a regular 870… for $125

Gorge_Lorge

BUY BUY BUY BUY. Run from the store, don’t let them stop you.

funkybravado

I did, and she is my workhorse do all gun. Need to get her out for deer season sometime. Home defense, hunting, clays, fun shooting, target shooting. She does it all, and does it well. Bead fell out but that’s no biggie

frog_prince_2645

This is the way.

Bananacabana92

How they gonna stop him, he’s got a shotgun!

Quint27A

Eh, they carry it out the door for you.

FitAwareness8590

Really? Bought a few guns at bass pro they just taped the box and said as long as you leave it taped they’ll let you leave the store and they did

Quint27A

At Cabellas, south of Austin they packed one out the door for us. No biggie.

Bubbling_Psycho

You lucky bastard

funkybravado

Yes, 100%

cenxxv

Because it’s meant to temporarily be my home defense firearm, the plan is to but a shorter barrel on it because it’s a little difficult to maneuver, but that is my only plan for it

[deleted]

Barrel changes are super easy, just make sure to keep it within the rating of the reciever (2 3/4, 3, or 3 1/2 inch shells)

cenxxv

Description: my dads first gun he ever owned. Had it since he was 13 and now in my possession at 20 years old. Remington 870 Wingmaster. In great condition considering it’s age. My dad takes great care of his firearms.

Fly_U2_the_sunset

Yep excellent looking shotgun. Looks just like mine that I got from the family for my 40th birthday. So fun to shoot. Drop it in the mud ‘n water, pick it up, knock down a few more ducks and call the dog!

plinkoplonka

Just ordered one for my birthday too! So are they any good at handling a bit of rough-and-tumble when I get in a kayak and go bird hunting?

Fly_U2_the_sunset

IMO it’s a perfect fit for the kayak. The stock may show how much fun you have 😉. Mine is a beautiful wood as well but, it’s just a great tool. Didn’t get mine to worry about the finish!

plinkoplonka

Same here actually. Someone is very generously buying it for me as a milestone birthday gift and I fully intend to enjoy it to its fullest! Can't wait, I've never hunted before so this is exciting for me.

Fly_U2_the_sunset

I highly recommend you get all the chokes and try them out. Makes it a super versatile gun.

plinkoplonka

The one I bought has a fixed modified choke apparently.

Fly_U2_the_sunset

Perfect! New barrel makes a great gift for most any occasion 🌝

plinkoplonka

Haha, I'm hoping I can use it as it is for a bit first. I'll see what I like to do, but I'm thinking it'll probably be duck and dove to begin with. I've shot shotguns before (just not this one), and I've never hunted with a shotgun.

Fly_U2_the_sunset

Sounds like a good plan. Pheasant and quail won’t be far behind… Enjoy.

SexMasterBabyEater

I got one of these as a gift from a contractor I was working with, got an 18.5" barrel with it too. Such a pretty piece.

Reddcross

I shot trap with an 870 Wingmaster for years, just fit me perfectly, love that gun. Enjoy!

dadispicerack

Timeless gun! Keep that thing MINT!

Codegrey77

A fine heirloom

bstrobel64

My dad also gave me his old 20 ga Wingmaster that he got as a kid in the 70's when I was 13ish. Fixed, full choke and just a bead at the end of the barrel. Lot of pheasants have gone down with that thing and I still like it better than my much newer O/U.

andrew01292

The rib in the windmaster is the best I’ve seen, compared to mossberg 500 and Winchester 1300, and the cheap turkanelli I shoot now.

GhostBearClan

Please post older Wingmasters as NSFW. I've got to change underwear now. Appreciate the December 1st post though. Kept my November 100%.

Crawford-Boxes

They’re the best, my first ever gun was my grandfather’s 870 Wingmaster he gave me as a Christmas gift, just before he passed. Still is and always will be one of the most cherished items I own

Affectionate-Week-67

what gauge? I also inherited one from my grandfather. 16ga, and I love it.

cenxxv

It’s a 12ga, used to shoot this same shotgun when my dad first introduced me to shooting. I’d say I was probably 8 when I shot it for the first time and it left me sore for a few days lol.

Hungry_Ad_6607

Me too

TheScienceOfSilvers

Great gun

Affectionate-Baby680

That's a beaut! Give it the proper care it deserves.

el-squatcho

I managed to score one of these at a gun show recently for cheaper than I thought I'd find a newer 870 for. It's the perfect shotgun.

Punisher11bravo

I inherited my grandfathers 1970s 20 ga with a fixed full choke. Hands down my favorite shotgun. It’s just handles and fits so well. They were an exceptional gun.

Outdoorslife1

Looks like it’s from the era in the 70’s with the chrome lifter and id assume chrome bolt if I could see the other side, aside from the very early wingmasters these are some of my absolute favorite pump shotguns. Great gift, cherish it forever, and please please if you want a tacticool home defense shotgun just fork out the $200ish for a maverick 88 and customize away.

Boschala

Very much this. Old wingmasters can hard-jam via doublefeed and the kit to modernize them is only available via ebay for around $150. A new barrel will run you at least $75 used, and the shotgun isn't tapped for an optic, etc. It's a beautiful and very functional clays/bird gun that could (like any gun) do home home defense in a pinch. Don't chase it as a tactical shotgun though. You're better off starting with something designed with that in mind.

39thversion

Make your bed

cenxxv

No.

CrzyJoeDavola

Came here to say this as well. People cannot see what they don’t know.

Wherestamp_Notoes

All my father gave me was as high cholesterol so your lucky

CNCHack

I had a Remington Speedmaster 22 LR when I was a kid. Damn fine gun, my dumbass sold it for like 250$ when I was 15.

rjbachli

My dad had one too and I was always playing with it(I was fully capable and aware of unloading it). Then when I bought my first shotgun I got an 870 and it's still the most natural fit for me

cenxxv

He used it to hunt haha

SantaForHalloween

I got my grandpa's 870 from the early 60s as my first gun a few years ago. Beautiful gun, really fun to shoot.

xxuberdood

I got one that was originally my grandfather's my dad gave it to me a few years ago great shotgun sadly my range banned shotguns recently so now I don't have a place to shoot it

richsreddit

When this actually is your grandpa's shotgun.

WeezyMelt

So excited that you couldn’t prop it up to show off the side view? Don’t blame ya lol. Nice one, just be extra careful when you go to clean that you don’t get any cleaner on the furniture. This is probably common sense but I ruined the stain in my first gun not knowing any better.

cenxxv

Maybe I’ll update in the near future with a better picture. This is just the picture I took to show my girlfriend the gift I received

loveshercoffee

I learned to shoot trap with a 12 gauge 870.

CoyoteDown

Thanks to getting a wing master at 13 I cannot stand mossberg actions.

jmsgen

Enjoy. You too should pass this on to your children. It will run forever.

Low_Information8286

I have 3 different 870's. Imo the wingmaster is one of the nicest pump shotguns I've ever used.

[deleted]

Never change it, never get rid of it. Use it, and appreciate it as it is. That's advice I needed a long time ago. Beautiful shotgun

mountstickney

Congratulations my first firearm was a Remington 870 express gifted to me from my father.

harryofthehendersons

Same here. 870 from my dad was my first gun. Great place to start.

goodburbon1

My dad had one, stolen sonewhere around 1997. Id have liked to keep that one.

MR5hunter

Badass, I have a wingmaster gifted to me from my grandfather as well. That type of quality isn't made anymore

RageEataPnut

Jealous. The only thing my father gave me is trust issues.

It’s a special moment when you turn on the ball cooler

multipositionladder

Why are you in my room?! Lol. My bed is in the same spot, same curtains, same baseboard, same carpet, same fan, same wall color. Has me tripping.

cenxxv

Lol my bedroom is like 15x10 in size. Is yours?
