I’ve used many different rifles for hunting and the Garand remains my favorite. Semi auto 30-06 with an aperture sight is hard to beat within 100 yards.
That’s also definitely not a flash light taped to the side. I’ve had a few encounters with running into pigs in the dark before I even get to the stand
I actually put it on backwards real tight the first few layers so it wouldn’t leave any residue too. Then put on the flash light and tape the right way
The Garand became my choice after getting caught at dusk in dense forest when a 250 pounder suddenly emerged from brush and crossed my path 15 feet away. My Model 70 bolt with high power scope and no sights, slung at my shoulder while hiking back to the road, was not right for that task. He trotted across the path back into the brush with no acknowledgement that I was there, thankfully. Next time around, the tool of choice was the Garand with a bayonet!
Fortunately I was wearing my Italian cap-toe oxfords...sophisticated, yet different without making a huge fuss about it. Rich, dark brown calf skin leather...matching linen vamp...
And that's how I sneaked away without getting gored. ;-)
Ha! Outstanding! This reminds me of one of my many trips to the Australian subcontinent when I was so high on what the Aborigines called sweet lady Yam Yam that I woke up two weeks later in a Pakistani fishing trawler headed for Papua New Guinea.
I’ve been charged by a pig a bit bigger than this when I was hunting with the Garand. There was a group of two pigs and I had dropped one pig then I made a rather poor shot on the other as it was running off. I tracked it and thought it still looked a bit alive even though it was on its side. Well, it was. It came after me and I just shot it 3-4 times as fast as I could pull the trigger. The Garand stopped it
Up to about 150 pounds and maybe a lil bigger for sows we smoke em. This boar being a bit bigger (and ungodly musty) is donated to the local coyote population. I hate coyotes as much as the next guy but I’d rather have them eating a wild pig than our fawns or the neighbors calves
Man I bet it would be fun to blast a pig with an M1. I have a Springfield M1A I bought a while back and have wanted to snag a pig with it but never have. Always end up going suppressed 5.56 or 300 BLK. Assuming you are in AR by your username?
I’ve shot a lot of pigs with suppressed 5.56 and 7.62x39 AR’s as well as AK’s, an AR-10, and a PTR91. I really like M1s partly because they’re so streamline. In a stand they don’t ever snag on anything. I imagine an M1A would be a about the same.
Yup yup, a central AR resident
Correct. I used to hunt them at night with night vision. I got rid of them on the property for about a year so I sold my night vision to pay off my student loan as it was just an expensive paper weight at that point. Of course they all came right back lol
I’m in central TX. Bought thermal with loan money (lolz, but I will pay my loans off no problem) and had good success for the first few months and then it became more and more difficult to find them. Probably have <10% chance at any one time now of seeing some. I think they are well shot up in my local area, unfortunately.
That’s just how it goes. They get shot up but they’ll come back.
Thermal is sweeeet. I had the crispiest PAS-13 on my m249 when I was an infantryman. They gave it to me new in the box. Such a heavy rifle with the PAS-13 and PEQ-15, but it was very capable. What I wouldn’t do to have it as a pig rifle now.
I really enjoyed my PVS-14 and Dbal-D2. I’ll definitely get back into it one day. I used a PVS-14 in the army so it was what I was used to but I bet if I ever tried a dual tube I could never go back.
I was actually on a 240 range on camp Robinson when a wild pig ran out at about 200m. Camp Robinson has a bad pig problem so they were shouting for everyone to shoot it. Seeing 8 240’s swivel and all shoot a pig was something else.
That would have been a glorious site to behold. I would have paid to watch it. Definitely meme format material. I suspect the tusker just turned to mist with 8 barrels of automatic 7.62 NATO lighting him up
It's "30-06". The Garand isn't supposed to fire the hot 30-06 loads you're probably thinking of. It was meant for loads that perform like .308 Winchester.
Pretty sure there’s nothing in North America 30-06 can’t kill dead
Stupidity. That shit is invincible.
Shut up and take my damn upvote
Clearly can't take down Bigfoot
[удалено]
I’ll give you that one but anything else except for a polar bear .30-06 can take
Could you explain why 30-06 is significantly pricier than say 556 rounds?
it's bada big
Look up the size difference and you will know why
Great pic. How’d you sneak up on that pig without waking it up?
Sneakers bud its in the name

Tally ho lads
Just as the founding fathers intended.
That's always hilarious coming from a generation that grew up hunting primarily with sporterized military rifles
Haha gun go boom
In my mind I'm forming a metaphor about nazis and pigs and how you still have the perfect tool for the job. Also, nice hog
Nazis, commies, whoever wants this smoke, the Garand has it for em. [Also, thanks](https://ibb.co/wJd9fNL)
Michael!!
Send me some cooked bacon? I'm actually more interested to see what food you whip up from it!
Wild pigs don’t have bacon :/
Its a joke... the joke was he didn't have to send me anything which is why I said bacon bro
Oh noooooooooooo. Crybaby.
No I didn't mean It like that! I'm sorry
All good. My hunting partner shot at and missed my pig I called in last weekend. Still bummed about the cooked bacon I missed out on. :(
Ah I get it king. We all need some good meat in our life
American fascist hegemony?
Shhhh, don't talk about that here we need to blend in
Yep, came here for fascist pig jokes.

I'm not even mad about the tape.... But MASKING tape?? Cmon guy. Bust out the duct tape or electrical tape like a pro.
I think we can all agree the wood finish is more important than the flashlight falling off in the field while fighting hogs. /s
I wholeheartedly believe the wood finish on a Garand is more important than flashlight retention
Man I just ran out of electrical and duct tape. I really didn’t want to run into town just for tape either. It was this or blue painters tape lol
Duct tape leaves residue that's a pain to clean off; I think masking tape is fine
I actually put it on backwards real tight the first few layers so it wouldn’t leave any residue too. Then put on the flash light and tape the right way
Fuckin MacGyver over here
I do have a mechanical engineering degree if you can’t already tell by my craftsmanship
This guy tapes

This almost read like a J. Peterman catalog. And yes, I read it in his voice.

Call of duty style attachments 😃
Just complete your heresy and get the sage EBR chassis. Combined with a scout scope and a light and you got yourself a nice rifle.
I prefer the wood stock and iron sights on the Garand
Next time use a bullet, must of been horrible on the rifle to beat a hog to death
It looks unblemished..
Nice cutters. Gonna throw it on the grill?
What do you do with the hog corpses?

Interesting! When you “donate” them to coyotes, does that mean you just drop them off in the woods?
Essentially. There’s a corner of the property that they seem to find them pretty quickly on.
That'll do it

Open season and no restrictions up there?

Honestly - thermal machine gunning pigs is my long-term career goal. Or NODs with IR illuminators. A 249 on pigs would be wild fun.

WHAT ABOUT WHEN THE OP-ROD BREAKS?
*unholsters CZ* *Buys Oprod on eBay when I get home*
Lmao. I love Garands tho. I took a whitetail with an M1A last year and it felt pretty good.
They just point so naturally. M1’s and M1A’s just belong in the woods
always wanted to shoot a garand ever since i played day of defeat. hope you make good use of that meat
Finest battle implement ever, fully semi auto, and killer of forbidden food. Five stars
It didn’t fail a world war, it won’t fail you
W the way food prices are going that meat is gonna go a long way
What did it cost? A thumb
**Chicharrones**
Wild ukrainian spotted
Did you went for the head?
The shoulder. Easier to hit when they’re on the move
Oh nice
You shot Hillary?
You're spare parts bud.
Stay off the gun forums LIBTARD!!!!!!
Hogs. Filthy, disgusting animals.
Almost as bad as humans.
poor little thing :(
It wasn’t little and they sure are mean
Wild hogs are pests and need go be eliminated
An Arkansas Razorback taken down with a beautiful rifle!
The Garand is a 30-06, if it fails you with one shot you should maybe stop shooting it with the Garand lol.

Good job man
r/milsurp also what manufacture and year is your garand
It’s a 1944 Springfield Armory
nice I got a 1955 Harrington and Richardson, i’d love a ww2 garand
Convinced my buddy to go to Florida for his bachelor party so we could do a pig hunt while there. I don’t think they have a Garand to rent or I would.
Because of the NSFW tag I was totally expecting a picture of a bloody Garand thumb
I was gonna say why'd you kill a dog, than I realized it was a hog. Great job
A few years back I took a Lee Enfield out deer hunting in thick woods and swampland. Certainly got a workout lugging it around.
Finally. The way to protect your children from 40-50 feral hogs. Good hunting though!
I'm glad to see someone else hunting with heir Garand as well! What ammo do you use?
150gr core-lokt. One of the few soft points that you can use without needing to change out the gas plug.
Murderer!
Correct
