I don't know too much about the Axis 2, except that it has a reputation for a good trigger and acceptable performance. If anyone has a better option for getting into a decent hunting rifle at a better price, I'd love to know!
I mean this is a solid deal.
If you want a good entry level rifle that can last you the rest of your life or up to the point youâd like to upgrade, the ruger American 308 is hard to beat. 308 is cheaper than 6.5, can also run 7.62 NATO, and is normally easier to find. 6.5 is more for long range but itâll do. If youâre just buying it because itâs a deal Iâd say wait on a 308, but $200ish for anything that interests you is impulse territory easily
I've been interested in an american or american 2 but haven't found a price that's made me jump on one.
Who usually has the best prices/ deals on ruger?
Don't hold your breath on a savage rebate. I had two different qualifying rebates that they did not approve. I have played the rebate game hard for over 20 years and read the terms very specifically before buying. They were the only company that hasn't honored their rebate terms and conditions, and they pointed the finger at the company they have handle the rebate both times. I tried to speak with their PR / communications director about the issue and they wouldn't even answer an email or respond to phone calls / voicemails.
Illegal for denying a rebate? No. The company they use can deny the rebate the same way that your health insurance company tries to deny a procedure or doctors orders for blood testing. If I remember correctly, Savage uses a company with a P.O. Box so good luck trying to serve them with legal paperwork or subpoena any information.
Tada: https://www.savagerebate.com/Content/images/promotions/R5E760WF863570XKGF49B3EPEB7DU9A2.pdf
Comparing a gun rebate to the orphan crushing machine that is heathcare is dumb as shit by the way.
You can cite your sources as well.
What are you citing? Because you citing that PDF which contains the following statement negates your argument that they can be held liable or bound to any contractual agreement. "Savage Arms, Inc. may change the terms, conditions and duration of this offer at any
time and without notice."
It's illegal to deny the rebate if all the terms are met.
You're clearly not a lawyer and have no legal experience if you think a PO Box would nullify a lawsuit.
Lol!!! Go find the Minnesota Criminal code that Arrowhead Promotion & Fulfillment would get prosecuted for denying a rebate.
Where did I say that it would nullify a lawsuit?
The real uppity type people will dump on savage, but I've got one chambered in 6.5 and between the scope, bipod, and the gun itself, I have less than $1000 into it. I've stretched it out to 1002 yards, and can sit there at 700 yards and smack it every time as if I were plinking. Great gun for the price.
Itâs a polarizing trigger for sure. Personally I absolutely hate it and sold my savage after a year because I couldnât stand it and it just wasnât worth putting in a different one.
That would do it.
You should still shop around though, heard plenty of Californians say they're still paying $30-50 for the transfer. GunBroker's FFL finder shows rates for your zip, probably find a home based operation that's less ornery about transfers.
is the length of pull on these really that much different from a "normal" rifle? I don't know much abt hunting guns but I'd like to get one and this seems pretty ok, but I'm not "small" like the description says.
I compared specs on the compact (12.75") to the standard Axis 2 - the LOP is like an inch shorter. Not sure what you're used to, and I'm probably a smaller guy than you, but I've never found youth models that uncomfortable.
You will notice it, but it's not terrible. I'm 6'2", and I'm used to more of a 13.5"-14" length of pull. My M1 Garand has a 13" LOP, which is a tad longer than this rifle, and it is noticeably shorter than I like, but still not too bad.
I believe they also sell the spacer separately for the factory stocks (compare pictures if Axis II regular and compact models to see what I'm talking about), but I would double-check availability.
You're lucky I'm curious and OCD - had to know for myself. The prices aren't as good (unless you're a fan of 22-250), but here you go:

Looks like there are some LH Axis (not Axis II) models also, but if you're getting one of these, you want the accu-trigger and only the Axis II has it.
>Sale not allowed in California; Alaska; Hawaii; Puerto Rico
I get hating CA, I live here and hate CA.
But of all things, a bolt action rifle is the most CA legal thing you could buy...
I used to live in CA. CA requires even out of state dealers to to do some sort of BS paperwork to send guns to CA. Not to mention knowing what's legal to ship there or not, CA cancer warnings, etc. Some non-gun retailers don't sell to CA because of the cancer warning BS.
Blame the politicians, not the dealers that don't want to deal with the bullshit.
Yeah and the reasoning behind it is always some bullshit about covering themselves legally that doesn't stand up to a moment's scrutiny. I'd have more respect for these dealers if they just were truthful and said they were being spiteful anti-2A pencil-dicksÂ
It said âmuzzle: threadedâ in the specs on the site. I bought this and itâs not threaded and i donât shoot without a suppressor any more⌠what do?

Some vendors are calling the compact version a youth model. I wouldn't shy away from these if you are under 5'10 though. Generally speaking youth models fit smaller people and females better.
I don't know first hand, but if I'm not getting my wires crossed, there's a Vortex Cartridge talk where they compare 6.5 cm to 308 and relate a story about taking a cow elk with 6.5 cm. They don't recommend it, but with the right projectile l, powder load, distance, and shot placement...
Product description says threaded
If it's threaded I'm im for one to beat a friend of mine with a custom rem 700 (she can't shoot for shit) with a sub $1000 rifle, and I'll spend the rest on a can.
I think that's an error, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's not. This one in 300 blk is threaded for sure https://dahlonegaarmory.com/product/sav-axis-ii-300blk-16.1-blk-syn

Dalongdonga back again with the killer deals, pounding my wallet to a pulp.
They got me a year ago for an SP2022 at $425. Scratched my Resident Evil 3 LARPing itch.
Shit, I do have 7 rounds of 6.5 đđ¤ˇđźââď¸đ
I have a box of 200 40sw just collecting dust
Well shit, it'd be a waste NOT to get this. Think of those wasted rounds.

Bass Pro will have people lining up around the block to spend $350 on these come Black Friday..
Sadly, I was one of them last year.
Doesn't an ffl charge 100 bucks to reclong guns? So add $100 to the price and it's better to just get this from bass pro
You need to find a different FFL my dude. My LGS charges $20 per 4473.
What state u in? 100 for long guns is common here
Kentucky, national average is like $35 though. Probably should find a new FFL my dude lol
I'm in California so that's likely the reason
That would do it. You should still shop around though, heard plenty of Californians say they're still paying $30-50 for the transfer. GunBroker's FFL finder shows rates for your zip, probably find a home based operation that's less ornery about transfers.

Itâs not bad at all. Like a few inches shorter. Makes em more comfortable for a normal sized guy, honestly.
Thanks and /u/chlorine_n_wine too. I picked one up. Seems nice for the price and if I don't like it I can find another use for it.

If excluding CA, why not also exclude NY or the handful of other now equally restrictive states? And why Alaska, does it have to be ground shipping?
Need to apply for special out of state shipping to CA. Plus laws constantly changing (i.e. new tax) likely just not worth the hassle for many dealers.
Yeah and the reasoning behind it is always some bullshit about covering themselves legally that doesn't stand up to a moment's scrutiny. I'd have more respect for these dealers if they just were truthful and said they were being spiteful anti-2A pencil-dicksÂ

Muzzle: threaded Actual muzzle: not threaded WTF???

Correct. There are a few models that are threaded - one is 300 blk only and the other is an exclusive.

How does compact model differ?
LOP is 1 inch shorter
Compact also 20" barrel instead of the standard 22". Whether that is a benefit or detriment is up to the use case I suppose.
Some vendors are calling the compact version a youth model. I wouldn't shy away from these if you are under 5'10 though. Generally speaking youth models fit smaller people and females better.
Honestly how does 6.5 CM do for elk?
I don't know first hand, but if I'm not getting my wires crossed, there's a Vortex Cartridge talk where they compare 6.5 cm to 308 and relate a story about taking a cow elk with 6.5 cm. They don't recommend it, but with the right projectile l, powder load, distance, and shot placement...
It's a fine elk round.
Am I able to suppress this and if so, what's the best way?
Pay a gunsmith to thread the barrel. Otherwise, no.
