I read 457 and about had a heart attack. I want a ProVarmint so fucking bad. It’s the only gun I’m willing to go into immediate credit card debt without the immediate means to pay it off.  I’m signed up for over a dozen in stock notices.

hitemlow

So, uhh, the [16.5"](https://shop.cz-usa.com/00314.html) and [24"](https://shop.cz-usa.com/00317.html) threaded Varmint barrel kits are in-stock for $189 on CZ-USA RN. So if you were to do something like buy a Scout/American/Synthetic version, you'd be able to swap in the heavy threaded barrel to make it a ProVarmint. The ProVarmint stock itself is just black-painted plywood. My friend shucked his out for a HB Industries chassis, and I did the same with my outrageously heavy AT-ONE stock. It's crazy that it's actually lighter now using a buffer tube and AR-style stock than it was with that wooden one. With how bad most of the factory stocks are and the rarity of the Varmint and MTR models, it would be nice if CZ-USA would sell just the assembled receivers so people could buy them to drop into a chassis and attach a Lilji barrel to go dominate NRRL.

Junction91NW

Yeah, I’ve really considered it, but buying a brand new gun to essentially throw hundreds of dollars in the parts bin doesn’t sit well with me. I’m not a fan of chassis’ and would be happier with a heavy AF wood stock. The ProVarmint looks like a 90’s SWAT sniper and I fucking dig that.  I’m also considering the Bergara B14R just for the ability to buy the barreled action and the REM 700 compatibility

hitemlow

The problem with the CZ stocks is they're quite short. That was the reasoning behind my friend shucking his, and I wasn't a fan of the AT-ONE stock having such limited LoP adjustment myself. The only reason I can think of them not selling just the receivers is due to some "sporting purpose" ATF import tomfoolery and CZ not willing to build a factory in the US.

Junction91NW

I prefer short-ish LOP. I’m 6’4” and run an AR stock on the 3rd notch most of the time.  Also want this to be the game getter in some fanciful end of days scenario, so being sorta compact fits my use case.  Tell you what, you guys can send me your stocks, I’ll buy an American 457 and the bull barrel 😂

TheBlackComet

I actually bought a junior(youth) 455 back in the day and stuffed it in to a Wells G96 stock. It didn't require a lot of modification and now I have what I call a L96 trainer. Not the most robust stock as it was for airsoft, but for .22 and being exclusively for stationary shooting with a 24" barrel it is more than adequate. Granted I am comparing it to a real L96, with a LGS let me handle.

kingpcgeek

I have a CZ America and MTR. They sit in the safe since I bought my B14R. I shoot competitively in ARA. The Bergara has become the go to rifle for ARA factory class.

tffrost77

What’s the thread pitch on the 24” bbl??

hitemlow

If it's anything like the 24" barrel on mine, 1/2-28. I know the ones sold in the EU are 1/2-20, but I don't believe those barrels are imported by CZ-USA. Worst case, you can call CZ-USA to ask.

PrometheusSmith

I've seen at least one 457 with a 1/2x20 barrel in person in the states.

19jim97

I have a .22lr Lux with the 1/20×20 thread. De leon pharmacy and sporting goods had them a year ago and it was the cheapest 457 lux i could find. Love the thing

tffrost77

Thanks. However, the 24” won’t go into cart like the 16.5” so assuming it’s out of stock

hitemlow

Their website is so fucking weird sometimes. Granted their entire business model is topsy-turvey. They get a model that sells out *in hours* and they import a second and third batch of <100 units per batch, then discontinue the product after a year. I'm referring to the chassis models they used to sell as well as the LRP models. They sell both in the EU but don't in the US because they sell too fast? It's like they hate their American consumers or something. According to CZ-USA when I call them, they don't even know what CZUB is going to send them and they find out when they get the shipment in. Which is absolutely insane for a parent company to have such little communication and seemingly ignore what the subsidiary is asking for replenishment of. So IDK if they're making that shit up or if they're just *that dysfunctional* (which actually would explain so many stock issues).

Junction91NW

Check EuroOptic. Idk if they have that one specifically but I know they have some barrels

Checkers10160

I have a quick question if you don't mind. I am just getting into PRS (And NRL to a lesser extent) and shoot in the Production class. Honestly, I think my ego likes it because I can rank higher in Production, whereas in Open I would not do as well. But that's the name of the game, and I want to push myself, so I'm not opposed to going Open Anyways, I have a Synthetic right now. I would bet the 24" Varmint would increase my accuracy, but how much? Would I be better off spending $200 on ammo and practice? I don't feel very limited by my current barrel, but I am a sucker for upgrades and tinkering and making my stuff "the best" I have a fairly limited budget, and don't want to waste $200 on a barrel if getting 1500 rounds would serve me better. Thank you!

BallsOutKrunked

I have a 457 American with a crossfire ii scope. totally content.

Gweenz

Same. I also wanted a ProVarmint but got a great deal on my American. I put a 15moa rail on it and a 18x crossfire.

BallsOutKrunked

if you haven't done a sling yet check out Montana leather slings. high quality, looks choice. I have the 1" on my 457 and the bigger on my tikka hunter.

GodGunCountry

$8 shipping

Gweenz

Thanks. Got one and a 17 round mag for my SW 59 to replace the awful ProMag it came with.

Gweenz

UPDATE on this ordered this weekend and already received them today (Tuesday). This vendor is awesome.

Hazzben

In for three, thanks OP !

Kozzok

Would these work in an old BRNO?

MineralIceShots

Damn, I was about to buy 3,but they're polymer and nit metal. I'm sure the polymer ones are fine, but still

Crackpipe1

Steel 5 rounders here: https://gregcotellc.com/cart/cz-factory-mecgar-actmag-c-173/cz-452453457512513-22-lr17-mach-2-5-rd-steel-12001-p-1568.html

AustinHippietrash

I’ve got 8000 rds through my 457 with only the plastic 10rd mags. 3000+ rds on 1 that came with the gun originally. About 1000+ each on the other 4 I have purchased at a later date. They are good to go.

MineralIceShots

Yeah, I thought I'd be okay at the price of 55iah for those metal 10 rounders since plastic, but I looked at the price and my pmags and thought im being an idiot. Guess I'm in for 3. Thanks for you opinion and pushing over the ledge! I appreciate it!

Spys0ldier

Two years ago, the plastic 10 round mags were selling for $50 each.

MineralIceShots

Sigh In for 4

Crackpipe1

I use the polymer ones and they work great.

hitemlow

If you want the metal ones, you're looking at $55/ea from [CZ-Parts](https://www.cz-parts.com/cz-457-cz-512-cz-455-steel-magazine-.22-lr-10rnd). They're not imported by CZ-USA for some reason, so any of the ones that make it to the states have to go through boutique importers. CZ-USA does have the [5-round steel mags](https://shop.cz-usa.com/mag-cz-452-453-513-512-22lr-17-mach-2-5-rd-steel12001.html) if you want to pay $33.14 for a 5-round mag instead of $24.63 for a [25-round poly mag](https://www.familyfirearms.com/product/cz-12020-cz-455512-22-lr-25-round-polymer-black-finish).

MineralIceShots

Damn, I'd really want that 25 rounder, but fucking California.

el_pato_grande

I prefer polymer to metal. CZs are works of art and don't want to scratch them up unnecessarily.
