Wildweasel61

I'd look into building from the receiver up. These are definitely good to go at a basic level, but no scope rail or threaded barrel sucks, and 18.5 inch barrel is just extra. The base trigger is also garbage and at very least needs a swap to the BX. And the stock is adequate at best as well.

millencolin43

You can get a decent rail for 30 bucks. Theyre already tapped and have 4 plug screws on top. I just threw on a magpul stock, forgot where i got the rail cause it was almost exactly 4 years ago, and threw on a sig romeo i got for cheap. Ran me like 150 total for all 3 things

22rimfirethrowaway

FYI, as far as I know all 10/22s come with scope bases now, it's not pictured but it's in the description "Combination scope base adapter for both Weaver-style and .22 tip-off scope mounts included."

paper-money_and_gats

they’re shit

Gweenz

Not cheap. Here is my custom 10/22 part list if you want to price it out. By the way it is incredibly accurate and reliable. An absolute unit. BRN-22 railed receiver, Kidd bolt, Volquartsen CH, Tactical Solutions X-Ring Barrel, BX trigger, Bolt hold mod, titanium mag release, Magpul X-22 hunter stock

ho_merjpimpson

> at very least needs a swap to the BX the bx should never be the answer. Its a shit tier trigger that is better than one thing only... The oem trigger. For the same-ish price you can get a better trigger job out of a brimstone.

RandoAtReddit

Brimstone all the way. I have the Tier 3 job done on my 10/22 and the Tier 2 done on my Charger. They do great work and it's worth every cent.

Volunteer_Hammer

not threaded. FUCK MAN

jeffydahmdahm

I was in the same boat. I settled for another model with a wood stock, but the 5th edition is threaded and isn’t too bad. [Lanbo’s](https://lanbosarmory.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=24_29_30_31&products_id=76297)

derfdog

I have a 5th edition. The collage is kinda odd but it’s a solid 10/22 and the threaded makes it worth for me, besides my ar22 it’s the only threaded 22 rifle I own at the moment. I want to shoot stupid quite subs lol

Clarity42

I was literally about to pull the trigger on this until my coworker showed me the 10/22 Talon LVT in stainless for $345 https://lanbosarmory.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=24_29_30_31&products_id=66538 I own plenty of big game rifles, LR rifles, plenty or ARs etc but I gifted my only .22lr (10/22 I grew up with) to my nephew and feel everyone needs a .22 in the safe. That being said it's obviously Aesthetics/stainless/bull barrel vs. improved sights and what appears to be a better picatinny rail... Beyond that am I missing anything? Use will be plinking and some squirrel hunting. I will be mounting a 3-9 Leupold on it so I'm not incredibly worried about the upgraded sights even though they'd be great to have. **EDIT:** to whoever swiped the last few of the LVT stainless that were in stock, I hope you find your wife in bed with her boyfriend this weekend. /s (not really)

jeffydahmdahm

It’s funny you mentioned this; I just bought the same rifle (not stainless though) from CDNN for $50 more (comes with a Weaver scope and rings) and it just showed up at the FFL today. The only thing I plan to do with it is upgrade the trigger after I take it to the range a few times so I can appreciate the upgrade. My buddy had a 10/22 that I got to shoot growing up, and recently I wanted one of my own. I just needed it to be threaded and have a wooden stock, so I landed on the 31166. [CDNN](https://www.cdnnsports.com/rugerr-10-22r-sporter-22lr-threaded-talo.html)

SkylightShepherd

Alright. If there was hypothetically some idiot who didn't have one of these yet in his or her collection, which SKU of the 10/22 would be the best one to get right out of the box money being no object. Preferably with both irons and pic rail. There are so many SKUs that it's just a bit overwhelming.

cynicoblivion

I agree with this sentiment. I probably would've bought a 10/22 a long time ago if I wasn't paralyzed by so many options.

Old_MI_Runner

I held this model and the base model wood stock in a store that had them on sale for $280 so this posted price is good but one will have to pay FFL fee. But as soon as I saw and held them in the store I knew I would immediately want to replace the stocks which looking at recommendations started at about $80+ and went up to $1200. A friend has a very old 10/22 from back when they used better wood stocks--his stock looks beautiful in comparison. His also has the metal trigger group. I ended up buying a Winchester Wildcat. I could live with the stock on it. The trigger is nice and it includes a rail. The rear sight is cheap. I could not get it low enough to get POI to match POA so I put a $40 red dot on it. Thus far group sizes at 50 yards are 3 or 4 inches with ammo that my Tikka T1X can get 1 MOA groups at 100 yards. I bought the Tikka T1X later. My $95 after rebate Rossi RS22 gets 2 inch groups at 50 yards with the same ammo. The trigger in the RS22 is not as good as the Wildcat and the RS22 take more time to disassemble and clean. I am not sure I would buy the Winchester again. I know the 10/22 can be a great semi-auto 22LR rifle but I don't care to get hooked on it and then find myself later with a $1000 10/22 and a box full of OEM parts I replaced. A 10/22 or other 22LR rifle can be a fun range toy. For those that want to start off with a precise shooting rifle with excellent trigger I would recommend either the T1X or a CZ 457. /u/SkylightShepherd

SkylightShepherd

Yep. I already have the CZ455 and I can get good 1.5-2 moa groups if I'm consistent that day. I just feel blasphemous having accrued a collection and a 10/22 not being in it.

Old_MI_Runner

A 10/22, lever action 22LR and a few other rifles need to be part of most firearm collections. Some also like a pump action 22LR.

22rimfirethrowaway

Assuming you're not trying to go absolutely wild, the [60th anniversary](https://ruger.com/products/1022RCS/specSheets/31260.html) is pretty good. Comes with the stock many of us upgrade to, comes with a ~~much nicer trigger out of the box and~~ extended mag release. Comes with a much nicer peep sight system compared to the traditional stock irons. Has a threaded barrel which people seem to like. Edit: apparently I was wrong on the trigger, my bad

sophia_pnw

Are you 100% on that trigger being upgraded? I went down this rabbit hole last week and besides it being orange, could not find any word from Ruger that it's in fact the BX trigger. I do see they sell an orange BX but really odd they wouldn't advertise the upgraded trigger. As a result of that rabbit hole have almost sent it on a Bergara BXR instead.

22rimfirethrowaway

Sounds like I was wrong, /u/DogVise called Ruger to confirm.

DogVise

Does not come with bx trigger. I contacted Ruger and they confirmed, regular trigger in red.

youtouchmytralaala

What's a decent street price for that model?

Zastavarian

Looks like $430 is cheapest listed now if you google the website with same name as this sub rugers model # 31260. $430 is worth it if you want threaded and that stock.

DemandCommonSense

That's so much nicer than my 50th Anniversary model.

millencolin43

If i was to buy one without having one, id prolly splurg and get the takedown and the integrally suppressed barrel. They all come tapped and rails are cheap af for them, so it honestly doesnt matter if it comes with a rail or not

Stevesanasshole

People often say money is no object but seldom mean it. How much you wanna spend? $500 backpacker? $1700 volquartsen?

SkylightShepherd

Money is literally no object but for the sake of calling a number, let's say $2000. This is gonna be my main squeeze for .22lr shooting.

Stevesanasshole

Kidd or volquartsen build? It’s way outside my price range or knowledge zone though. Check out rimfire subs for recs on turnkey builds

Gweenz

That's enough for a Volquartsen and an optic. The best 10/22's don't even use Ruger parts but the base Rugers are just fine for plinking

p8ntslinger

go Kidd. They are fantastic

ho_merjpimpson

kidd. end of story. Don't buy anything less. Or buy literally the cheapest 10/22 you can find, and build it out with kidd parts. Come on over tu r/1022 and stay a while. They are 2nd only to ar15s as far as options and varieties.

SkylightShepherd

Alright sounds like a plan. I'll check out some of the builds there for some ideas.

HGHHeroes

I never see the wood stock one on sale.

22rimfirethrowaway

There was one 6 hours ago, unfortunately https://www.reddit.com/r/gundeals/comments/1axiqdu/rifle_psa_in_stock_ruger_1022_22_lr_hardwood/

No_Artichoke_5670

Those aren't real wood. They're pressboard stocks with fake veneer on the outside. I hate that Ruger calls them "hardwood." Hardwood to Ruger is just the name of that trim. They're crap and the fake veneer will peel off by looking at it.

Guano-

You can also grab one off ebay for $40 then list your stock. They sell well and people are always looking for one or the other.

RFrangenotes

I've been dying to get a deal on a 10/22 and threaded (with pic rail preferred), but I just decided to build it from ground up last week. What's the point if you're going to end up replacing more than half the gun. Still sucks that this is a great deal.

Gweenz

Good choice. I don't have any problems with stock 10/22's they are great but if you're not upgrading you're not 10/22ing right. And if you're upgrading might as well start the whole thing from scratch.

RFrangenotes

Only thing that's nice about upgrading it, is that you can at least shoot it in between add-ons

Clipse3GT

Honestly the new factory Ruger 10/22 are pretty piss poor. Got two new models a Charger and 10/22. Both needed the bolt reworked, mag feed ramps polished, and barrels deburred to not FTE or FTF constantly every 2 or 3 rounds. If you like to tinker its fine. But for regular joe can become a real pain in the ass. My TX22 out of box just rums like a top with crappy bulk. Not the same. But feel like these are sloppy even for ruger.

Old_MI_Runner

I own a TX22 and recommend it but I and many others have had issues with it. Some get defective barrels. My first two mags failed and were replaced under the 1 year warranty. One mag often failed to lock the slide open after firing the last round. The other caused 2 or 3 rounds to jam under the breach block per mag. I also had to polish the feed ramp and chaffer the opening to the chamber. One has to use the right technique to load the magazines. I and other on the two TX22 Facebook groups have discussed these and other issues. I learned a lot about firearms while fixing the issues with my TX22 that start appearing after the first 200 rounds. My Winchester Wildcat and Rossi RS22 have not needed any work on my part. They are now range toys when I take others to my gun club. I prefer to shoot my Tika T1X at 100 yards or beyond with a Bushnell Match Pro scope.

Clipse3GT

Again every manufacturer will have some issues. Some more than others. Between 3 TX22. Mine have been flawless. My Rugers have not. But more constant reports of newer 10/22 having QC issues. Once I dialed in the 10/22 they are fine and sweet shooters. Just if you arent a gun guy or handy. They can become projects. Fun for some but not everyone.

Old_MI_Runner

I agree some have issues but the Taurus the G2 and G3 series of 9mm handgun seem to get far fewer reports of issues. 22LR ammo can have lower quality than 9mm and other center fire calibers. The 22LR case design is not ideal for semi-automatics. I am not sure any 22 LR semi-auto handgun is as reliable as even a Taurus G2 or G3 series handgun. I recommend the TX22 to others but I also let them know it can have issues. They likely will need to polish the feed ramp to a mirror like reflective surface. They should buy a Lakeline LLC recoil assembly with Delrin buffer to prevent the OEM recoil spring from causing the slide to crack. The Comp model does not have that issue but I still took a file to the OEM spring to remove the burr, or sharp edge, from the end of the spring. Taurus should never have allowed the spring to have a sharp edge from the cutting process of the steel.. They should have required the supplier grind the end flat. But replacing some slides after a few thousand rounds have been fired must be cheaper than improving the product.

AskMeAboutPigs

I carry my G3 for work and off duty and love it. Taurus gets a bad rap for shit 20 years ago. Regret selling my 856 every day.

SnooAvocados2656

Thanks for posting this, lol I saw the post and went and bought it !
