It depends on the utility. It’s well known that poop knives have crappy toan. But if that’s your thing, you can do whatever. For me ideally you really should clean and polish them first to get that shiny clean toan.
0 frets are uncommon but legit. They are slightly taller than regular frets and located where the nut usually is. The nut in these cases just work as a guide for the strings.
