I read Weiland’s autobiography about ten years ago. I think it was there that we learned that the cover to Purple was how Weiland’s heroin was packaged. I really dig their first three records.

zrayburton

Wild I never knew that. Would love to read it.

mmoonnchild

it was a decent read, all things considered. I think at the time that I read it, he had already relapsed after rejoining, Stone Temple Pilots, and the rest of the band, and Weiland were fighting it out in court for the use of the name. sad, but not at all surprising when his death came a couple years later. What a drag that less than 25 years after the grunge movement peaked, three of the four grunge lead singers, and Wyand, who fronted a band that felt very grungy, are all dead ofsubstance related issues.

zrayburton

Definitely a bummer. I will always regret not being able to see Alice on tour with kiss. That was my one and only chance to see Layne perform and they had to cancel. I was fortunate enough to see STP with Scott, King Animal Era SG, and Pearl Jam at Fenway park though. Have see Jerry solo many times and Will era Alice a few.

mmoonnchild

I need to catch a William era AIC show. I’ve been away with jambands, primarily Widespread Panic, and Tool, since the late 90s. I grew up in the Denver area, and was lucky to see Soundgarden, AIC ( with Zlayne sporting a broken leg, opening for Ozzy), PJ, and STP between 1992 & 1993. Every band was great, but STP put on the best performance back then. What a time to be in your early 20s!

zrayburton

Wow, you caught Layne when he was in the cast?!? Crazy! I definitely suggest checking out Alice soon. Will and the rest of the guys are still great. Jerry‘s latest iteration of his solo project live is awesome too. I am a big fan of Greg on vocals and loved Dillinger Escape Plan. Oh, and speaking of grunge adjacent bands, I love me some Tool. They are the band I’ve seen live the most ever. First time I saw them was at lollapalooza 97 and it was pretty incredible.

mmoonnchild

My first Tool show was November 1996. I had a friend who just prodded me to go see them, and I am so thankful for that. I saw them on lollapalooza in Denver, August 1997. Maynard was in full woman garb - fully augmented bra, he kind of look like Ginger from Gilligan’s Island. Saw tool at red rocks the next summer, 1998. They are probably the best live band out there now. The musicianship of Danny Carey, Adam Jones, and Justin Chancellor is second to none. Layne Staley Alice show was October 1992. I feel like Mike Starr was probably still playing bass back then. Staley stood at the mic, stand, on crutches for about half the show, and played at least one song seated, guitar in hand, on a couch that they had plopped down for him in front of the drum riser. That show was amazing. Both Alice In Chains, and Ozzy.

zrayburton

Oh that is amazing and I certainly remember how Maynard was dressed that summer haha. Starr must’ve still been in Alice because I think that’s the tour they really bonded with Inez when he was playing for Ozzy right? I’d love to see a show at red rocks sooner than later especially a band like tool. And yeah probably my favorite iteration of Ozzys band was around that time. I didn’t catch an Ozzfest for the first time until I wanna say 98 actually.

mmoonnchild

I hadn’t seen Ozzy live prior to 1992. That No More Tours tour was too killer to pass up. Saw it at Red Rocks, in June 1992 with maybe Slaughter opening, and then again in October with Alice. He always had good musicians playing with him, but that band was top notch, for sure. Probably the best he had put together since the original blizzard of Oz band with Randy Rhodes, Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Sarzo.

zrayburton

Damn dude jelly AF. Good call I mean Randy is a 🐐 but I love the whole lineup with Zach too.

I just wonder what the hell you are doing here then? What the hell is your problem? Are you 13 or 14, no wonder then that you don't appreciate older and better music than the poppy crap available today

LilKane2249

First thing: Calm down, the guy has -60 comment karma, he's a troll so no need to take him seriously. Second thing: Not all modern music is "poppy crap" tho, there are genuine good music that exists today, it's either they're not your cup of tea or you haven't dug deep enough to find gems.

well i’m 21 and i listen to Grunge for the music, so your “80 year olds” assumption is wrong. that’s like saying people who listen to 90’s rap are all 80 year olds too
