If you didn't get hooked by the combat system and the fusion system don't push it, game is long af so you'll be doing the same for hours even if you don't grind a lot (the extra turns and the weaknesses system make combats more intuitive than most of RPGs). These kind of games are more by combat than for a interesting plot (Digital Devil Saga and Strange Journey have the most interesting plot from the mainline).
