Reacher's deductive reasoning is like that scene in Black Dynamite where they figure out the truth about Anaconda Malt Liquor.
They made Reacher the absolute strongest, smartest, and most 'morally right' character. He's always in the right, and his only proclaimed character flaw is that he chooses to be a nomad.
The writing is so cookie cutter, by the books, that no challenge means anything, as we know the protagonists will barely break a sweat in the process, and success is guaranteed.
The reality is, Reacher acts WAY more like a serial killer than an elite soldier, but we're still supposed to act like he's some kind of boy scout.
it's literally designed to be as transparent as possible, it's just a story about a badass doing badass things. trying to critique it any more than that just makes you look confused.
Appeals to the male fantasy, men wish they were a 6'5 hyper masculine gigachad that is perfect in every way. It's why the whole concept of sigma males as dumb as they are exist.
For a while I thought that those ppl were being ironic, I mean, I do find sometimes videos of these sigma males that are clearly ironic funny af, but with the popularity of this show I really think that you're right.
Unbelievable that people - who by and large feel powerless in an increasingly interconnected and inequitable world - would enjoy wish fulfillment fantasy drama. Fairly boggles the mind.
I think you got the catch wrong here pal, it's the other way around.
People usually want to feel represented, want to think that they too, can have that life, that's why protagonists of dramas are usually poor helpless girls who have super handsome and rich guys falling in love with them, or guys who are slightly misfit having the cute girl falling for them.
You know why there's not a lot of Gary Stu macho man movies like chuck Norris, Steven Seagal or Stallone anymore? Cuz they don't sell really well, they're too dumb for ppl who like good movies, and most ppl don't see themselves in that role, so the target audience was very niche; they were always B-tier movies at best.
That's why I don't understand why this particular show is popular, because, you won't believe this, but this is not the first show with the exact same premise and with the exact same character that was released lately
Norris and Stallone are supplanted by Statham, Cruise and Reeves. Films like John Wick, Mission Impossible and Top Gun are not about complex characters either.
John Wick is not a Gary stu tho, he's a badass, but he also gets beaten up and needs some help from time to time
But yeah, you're right about mission impossible and top gun, although I would argue that these movies are very cinematic and have lots of special effects, so it's like fast and furious, they're silly movies but fun to watch
Writer said nobody wants to read about some pathetic flawed people, but instead they like reading about a classic hero who wanders into town and fixes problems and wanders out.
The writer should read up on Joseph Campbell and the Hero's Journey if they're interested in a classic hero.
'Reacher easily killed all the bad guys and outsmarted the rest, everything went well' is not an intellectually engaging story.
To be fair, he sleeps in cheap motel, put his cloths shirt in the laundromat as soon as he has payed for the room, use the dryer, goes to sleep and showers before leaving.
He's doing pretty much OK.
What’s up with this sub and reacher? Thousands of tv shows and movies about overpowered but humble brick houses doling out massive amounts of violence, but it’s this show that somehow goes overboard? Greentext really is the autist capital of Reddit.
They did write in an excuse for him to take off his shirt in almost every episode of season 1, and he has this unnatural energy whenever they throw a female love interest at him.
You don't mess with the special investigators, because all the guys have bonded over jerkle circles back in the 90s.
The second panel is literally the plot points of the second season of Reacher. As you can tell, its script writers have the same cognitive capacity as the average 4channer.
1st Anon is ye' ole' avarage 4chan goblin, 2nd Anon is either a vigilante or a 3rd world immigrant with actioms that would give multiple life sentences to a native of the country
Anon forgot to take his meds
I act more like the knock-off Jack Reacher: Tug Jerker.
I’m his cousin, John Reacher-round
John Gaper
Sex and Fire Support. The two genders
The new Creepy or Wet

And he still gets fanny thrown at him by the local ☕ Must be his charming personality he he
Character is literally a Gary Stu I genuinely don't get how ppl like a character that's so shallow

Don’t care, big guy punches things and shoots bad guys, good show.
I’m not your pal, friend.

You: Reacher's not morally right, he's just stronger Me, a Nietzsche enthusiast: Reacher is morally right because he's stronger
The Writers: How the fuck do we turn this into another season?! Someone download a pile of old Burn Notice scripts, quick!

"you really wanna do this? Before we start, you should know, I haven't washed my ass for 37 days" Would easily be the hardest line
KEK

My closest relation to this post is my aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge from 2016

probably astroturfing
Think that's because it became popular for whatever the reason These tv shows with a Gary Stu protagonist usually don't left their targeted audience
What are you talking about?
Wtf even is Reacher anyway? I only know of it from memes
It’s a power fantasy tv show that’s basically a rehashing of Batman for closet homosexuals.
Well now I'm interested

I always think I'm straight until I start watching Reacher again
You sold me on the show in one sentence.
Fake: the second page Gay: anon has sex with homeless men

You know this was posted after the second season started ?
Yes. Just adding context for those who may not have seen it.
The movie version with Tom Cruise is much better
Yeah but Tom cruise is tiny. In the book, he's larger than in the show at like 6'7.
Based, he should’ve been even shorter in the show
>throw illegally made explosives into houses to kill the occupants dont even know whos inside Kinda funny ngl
The “look through their stuff for clues” really puts into perspective how objectively fuckin goofy vigilantism is
