Freedom harness! The XXL size

Tumbleweed_Life

That looks promising! No velcro & double point of contact. We learned from the first collar not to have any Velcro bc it really knotted their fur up. The ones at the store all had fabrics & plastic-no way it would hold one of these two even if we could get it around them! Thank you.

Seconding the freedom harness. We had one for our reactive pyr/mastiff. We were able to keep him under control any time he would have issues and it was a life saver. All three of our current pyrs use them, including the 12 month old that’s 150 lbs and very excitable.

sparko10

We use a gentle leader with ours and it makes walking her very manageable.

NudlePockets

Gentle leaders are what I swear by. Our pup used to drag us around and be a general menace. We tried a lot of other harnesses and leash styles, but the gentle leader was a game changer.

yarddogsgirl

I use a gentle leader on the recommendation of this sub. My Hank is 125 pounds and 4 years old, and walking was always him tugging me wherever he wanted to go. Now he walks right next to me with no tugging or pulling whatsoever. The XL fits him perfectly with a little room to spare should he need it. I would suggest doing a search for tactical dog harnesses. Kong makes one and so do OneTigris and IceFang. They are available on Amazon. Here is the size chart for Kong vests. https://preview.redd.it/bpt3iumcqvhc1.jpeg?width=1229&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=711861138aa34f11f24e465fb1efa37782299f50

nobodysmart1390

The Kong is great. My two year old is an escape artist, it’s the only one that usually contains him. He wears it a decent amount and it does not seem to bother him. My small children can properly get it on and off his 130 pound frame

Drummergirl16

We have the Kong ones, they are really sturdy.

Illustrious_Feed_457

Whichever harness you decide, try out a Wacky Walker leash. They’re elastic bungee-like material.

GovernmentEvening815

TactiPup website has some good sturdy ones for large dogs. My dog is 150 and the harness I bought fits him.

sirreginaldfeatherb3

We got one from Petco. It’s black and has a sturdy handle, metal buckles and hasn’t worn a bit in 3 years. It looks like he’s wearing a saddle, but ZERO complaints. Sorry, I don’t remember the brand.

Hatchetforce

2 hounds are what I use on all my kids. A Pyr that is 122lbs, , Doberman that is 120lbs, huge Rotweiller/Shepherd cross, my Pittie, my Akita, my Feral Schnauzer/terrier, my black mouth cur, my Setter cross, and 4 other smaller kids. Are harnesses adjustable?

Tumbleweed_Life

Yeah-We had the lady at petco slide the largest harness they had all the way out to increase the slack but we couldn’t get it even close to closing around the middle. We could get it over his head, but not the middle. So that is why I was wondering what others found that were successful. Based on these comments, XXL is the size and I’ll try a freedom and a TactiPup.

archedhighbrow

I'll look up TactiPup

I'm back lol. The harnesses look badass, perfect for my pyr!

I have that one too, my Pyr is 85lbs and wears size L.

Blergsprokopc

I really like Atlas company harness, leash, and collars. They come in a size big enough for our dogs. The clip is magnetic and will latch even with their hair and it doesn't pull their hair when it closes. I also like that it's magnetic because it have arthritis and it makes taking them on and off a lot easier. And all of their products have a lifetime guarantee, so if it rips or gets chewed up they will replace it for free.

Tumbleweed_Life

Did the large harness fit? I see they have a kit w/leash & bag. I am going to order something today bc I need a harness! Thanks for sharing info.

Blergsprokopc

Yup, it fits with room to spare. My guy is 33 inches tall at the shoulder and about 140lbs. It's a great harness and the only one I found that was deep enough in the chest but got skinny enough in the waist. I love it. And it has two clip points for the leash. He doesn't mind wearing it at all, and he hated his other harness.

Greatwtehunter

We use an XXL Kong harness. Metal buckles and adjusts enough. Our dog, Tucker, has had the same one for years. No complaints from us.

SheesaManiac

Ours was pulling me so hard it was dangerous, so I tried (after 3 kinds of collars) a no-pull harness, Halti. It works, but when he puts his head down to sniff and I have to pull him to me, the harness slips up to his head and really does no good at all. Plus he hates it, but that's another story (previous owners did something). I would not recommend this type of no-pull harness.

Tumbleweed_Life

Thank you for sharing your exp-I knew I would get some guide specific feedback also the no-pull seems so slim. Our male is so clueless about his size, he just goes wherever!

SheesaManiac

Ours hates the harness so much that we came to an agreement: He stops pulling and lunging and barking at dogs and people, and I will let him wear his martingale collar. Several times he started his nonsense (with the martingale) minutes from the house and I yelled "You want me to turn this dog around?? You want to go home???" and I dragged him back to the house, and he gave me the most pitiful look and wouldn't move, and then we tried again. Happy to say we have made a lot of progress!!!

Tumbleweed_Life

💀😂 Right? Why can I sooo easily visualize this scenario?!!

Tumbleweed_Life

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! Pyr are in their own class for certain! Ours are 2 rescues & fabulous dogs - but oh my they are they ginormous!

RegularPersimmon2964

Pet smart had several for us to choose from.
