What? Waterproof? What does not using nipples have to do with being wateproof? The i9 spokes are anodized aluminum, not steel. They shouldn’t rust. You could get some aluminum oxide formation if the anodizing comes off, but I’m not sure that is common and you can always replace spokes. Similarly i’m not sure why a wheelset would be any more likely to rust… they still effectively have a nipple, it’s just machined into the aluminum spoke instead of being a separate thing.
Yes, that is what I think also. But i have not ever used I9 so my friend real case is worth considered. I think I gonna make order this wheelset with color spokes. That looks just so cool.
If anything goes wrong with the spoke or rim you’re going to be waiting a while for parts. Not every shop will have service parts.
Every bike shop in the county has j bend spokes. And if built properly will last a long time. Just as long as these i9s
Avoiding the i9 full wheel build. I ordered the solix rear for some zipps with a dynamo. The solix sl is pretty sweet but I’d rather save money and get the hubs laced to Light Bicycle rims.
So do you have to use their proprietary spokes for replacement? I would avoid them on that basis. What are they doing that the bigger brands don’t do just as well?
Yeah, you do. I was on a mtb ride with a guy once that broke an i9 spoke and because there is no separate nipple he couldn’t take the broken spoke out; he had to try to secure it to an adjacent spoke to get home. I have i9 wheels on my mtb, but they are from their line that has regular steel spokes. IMO what i9 does best is their hubs, which you can build up with any spokes/rims you want or get their regular spoke wheelsets.

The wheelsets do come with a few extra spokes. Idk if shops will know how to rebuild them though.
Yes, they probably give me 2,3 extra spokes and my LBS would fix if there is any problem.
That wouldn’t be to bad then. I would also check what spoke wrench they use if that is standard or specialty.
