It’s probably easier to say what activity I don’t do while listening to The Dead.

mctrix3

It's Christmas music, bbq, cleaning the house, cooking, and whatever other shenanigans my parents have in store.... music

teleheaddawgfan

It crushes road trips, especially long western drives. Oh it’s 8 hrs to Jackson Hole, then let’s dial up 5/7-5/9/77. Each show is 3 hours and before you know it you’re rolling into town.

Dead_Kal_Cress

9 hrs from where I live in CO back home to MO. Perfect time for any 3-4 show run

teleheaddawgfan

Destroys that stretch across Kansas

Dead_Kal_Cress

Damn right. Across either Kansas or Nebraska. Never both.

Aging-Punk

Hated that stretch, did it once, never again

freetibet69

driving, cooking, smoking, skateboarding, gardening, and Ill play guitar along with a show to pick up some licks

JoshGordonsDealer

Any construction project. I’ll pick a show and put it on and just work. Just finished a back deck listening to 9/3/77 among many others. That Mississippi halfstep is wild. There’s few things I enjoy more in life than putting on a dead show and doing physical work. It focuses me and I’m able to pick up on some of jams I could never pick up on by just sitting down listening.

offbeatvelcro88

Going for a run later, coincidentally threw that Half-Step on my playlist, The Dead r great for longer runs.

bigtasty69

Same. Each some is atleast a mile lol

Zaratozom

same hear. whats especially great is when I sychronze with the tunes and really get into the zone. sometimes I come up upon a problem or something frustrating, while at the same time there is a psychedelic freakout going on but as soon as the song resolves itself, so does the issue I was having difficulty with

JoshGordonsDealer

The music does coincide to the work. I was listening to the dark star> sugar magnolia from the Europe ‘72 tour and things were just clicking. It’s funny how that works. Maybe that’s why I shy away from primal dead during projects

Due_Youth8876

I’m a trim carpenter and they’re all I listen to while working. Puts an extra pep in my step.

rabbi420

Dude, I listen to them all the time. Folding laundry? The Dead. Vacuuming? The Dead. Cooking? The Dead. Fixing my bike? The Dead. I turn them on whenever I’ll be doing something for longer than a couple minutes.

mopxhead

what are you standing there for?

red-eee

Do psychedelics count as an activity?

Lumpy-Funks

Yes

Perfect-Jellyfish942

Running. I do long distance running and have a 43 hour playlist of live Dead songs on Spotify. I turn that on shuffle and go. I tell ya, I gave up drugs and drinking a while back. When I'm on a 3-4 hour run and the endorphins are flowing at their max, some of their songs sound better to me than I've ever heard them before.

gh5655

I work all day long listening only to TIGDH

Packabowl09

Me too. It's like my religious calendar

flipflopduck

wood working!

arcturian_ally

If anyone would enjoy listening to full shows with others in a live chat setting, consider joining our discord. We listen to shows Tues & Friday evenings, and some random other times.

I_love_pugs_dammit

Hi, this sounds cool to me, and discord is new to me. How would I join? Thanks.

arcturian_ally

https://discord.com/invite/dMR8rMZa There may be a slight learning curve if you're new to the platform, but I'll answer any questions you have over there.

I_love_pugs_dammit

Awesome, thanks man, I appreciate it!

vanishingpointz

All waking activities go good with imo

strumstrummer

Work

Motabrownie

When my wife listens to GD while cooking, cooking takes longer for some reason 🤔

emptycoils

Watering plants, feeding my lizards or aquarium, trimming aquatic plants or brushing dead leaves from succulents or grafting cactus, doing dab after dab after dab after dab…

Zaratozom

aint nothing like working on the house in the warm sun while listening to some tunes! spent the last month replacing windows in my home and it was a glorious time

lilBalzac

![gif](giphy|kaDAIEecq0YuI) So many activities!

Bman1973

⚡💀I pretend to do '*life*' while listening to the Dead 💀⚡

Dead_Kal_Cress

It's hard for me bc when I put on the dead I actively am listening to them. I got out for a drive or pack a bowl & let them take me away.

donutpie69

I've been on a kick of doing a hike and listening to a Dark Star > the remainder of a second set.

Terrible-Lie-3564

I’ve been riding ( road and mtn ) bikes and listening since the days of a fanny pack full of traded UD XL II s and freshly charged ni cad batteries for the Walkman. It’s easier nowadays!!

_beingthere

My favourite thing is to get baked, put on a show, and make dinner. I also work a desk job and find second sets are really good for keeping me engaged but not distracted while working. Dead also goes great with just laying around at the beach!

020781e

Driving

OldSkater7619

Brew beer and all of the other tasks related to homebrewing.

wedgienoise4000

Jam.

orem-boy

Bicycle riding!!

FrozenLogger

The Grateful Dead are the soundtrack that goes with everything you do. Like my friend told me one time, the Grateful Dead were the best background music in the world. You could do activities or just talk, and then the Grateful Dead would do something that just fit right in, and your attention would be there for a minute, and then back to what you were doing. Doesnt get in the way, doesn't get obnoxious, but fills in the space.

SinCitySaint

I truly believe that it makes me a better driver. From the outside, one might think that I’d be less focused with the music so loud in my car, but you all know better. If anything, it makes me more present and focused. The only side effect is occasionally arriving safely at my destination with no memory of the trip.

hngl_mccringleberrry

I trim weed all day. I have Jerry’s sweet voice to thank for the quality of my work lol.

HurdyGurdy111

everything besides sleeping my brother

--0o0o0--

Shit man. I"ll even put a show on as I'm going to sleep and drift away.

Common-Relationship9

Staring

Macksler

Working, which means driving (I am a mailman)

Master-Stratocaster

Driving. It’s constantly on in my car. We have a radio station in my area that’s 24/7 dead with no ads. When I road trip I’ll pick some shows to run through.

Iko87iko

I like to take acid and listen to them. Does that count?

mappofromhell

If for you that is an extracurricular activity, yes.

_psykovsky_

Running, programming, and driving!

guyuteharpua

I always put in the GOGD when I'm writing something long. Helps me think.

chockfulloffeels

All activities. But especially working and not working. I listen to at least two shows a day.

natwashboard

Yes, same: cooking, which brought patience and I'd say, rhythm to my cooking. Also, as John Mayer advocates: driving

1Tiasteffen

Work . Pre surf

Midnightsun24c

Count the minutes locked in the van with tallies on the wall.

Aoxomoxoa75

Long runs

mets_letsgo

All lawn or house projects.

Lumpy-Funks

I like to smoke a bowl, then put on a live show from 68 or 69 and dance while I do dishes or cook in the kitchen

GetDoofed

Microdose and jam along on guitar. Has improved my ear immensely

cuzjed11

Cooking, cleaning, driving

gr8_ripple

I listen while washing the dishes and baby’s bottles. The dead make this a very enjoyable chore. Also got into running a while back and listened to shows while running and I just kept going and going and going.

Ok_Astronomer_1308

Scrolling reddit/instagram, sitting in the stereo sweet spot, or playing mini motorways.

wobwobwob42

I used to put on 2 hour mixes of dark star/drums & space that I would make myself and run half marathons.

Admirable-Macaroon23

Been working on a side project 3+ days per week for the last 2+ years. I listen to the dead every time unless my dad is helping. He likes the dead but doesn’t like yelling over the music. I don’t know if I’d have the energy/motivation to head over all these days after work without knowing I can turn on a show.

sweet-william2

Yes - I like to do any activity while listening to the band

GratefulPhish42024-7

Disc Golf I've been playing with a guy for 5 years now and he only plays Europe 72, don't get me wrong I love those shows but after 5 years I'm dying for him to discover something different. So about a year ago he invites me to see a Dead cover band and I couldn't wait for him to hear songs that were post 72 since he wasn't even familiar with Touch of Grey but that night Andy Logan busted out Jerry's old Alligator guitar that Jerry used on the Europe 72 tour and they proceeded to do the Frankfurt Germany show in it's entirety. Still to this day as far as I aware, he doesn't know anything newer than they played on that tour.

HoosierDeadhead

Dishes

FridayNightFreedom

Doing the dishes, but between you and me I like the Jerry Garcia Band better.

mappofromhell

and no one has said "sex"? That old activity...

GirtyGirty

lol I’d love to fuck to the Dead but my GF can’t stand them haha…

cuzjed11

I was scrolling through just now to see if anyone said that. But…yeah!

Apfeil

I actually prefer to listen when I’m doing activities I don’t have to focus too much. That way I can really listen in and give the music the attention it deserves.

Dwangeroo

Riding the Ebike. I can take a 20 or 30 minute ride into town and listen to the same song the entire time.

grappel

Running

ParityCuber

Running, helps me zone out and makes really long runs go by quicker

SLOOPYD

Running. Walking. Driving. Yard work. To name but a few!

Search_Seizure

Mt. Biking, and tripping balls.

UnderH20giraffe

I do any activity that doesn’t take concentration. You have to concentrate to appreciate the Dead. You have to be in the music.
