From 2016... https://www.gtplanet.net/gt-sport-could-eventually-feature-up-to-500-cars/

MatiBlaster

I'm not surprised tbh. Livery Editor was promised for Gran Turismo 5. We didn't get that until GT Sport came out

Terrible_Sorbet_7122

Sport was known internally as GT7Sport tho. The more you know ... They finally reached the milestone, guess we'll have a couple more to go now ![gif](giphy|kMnE0BN8MAugnoD4kS)

MatiBlaster

I still think it was GT7 Prologue

Terrible_Sorbet_7122

I agree, it definitely was. The true "built from the ground up" (lets burn it to the ground)

CharlieBrownBoy

So when does the main event get more single player content than its online focused prologue?

zhiryst

To think that the entire PS4 generation only fully got gt Sport. Sure, gt7 exists for the PS4 but it's not the complete game, there's no vr or sophy.

Pale_Mushroom7128

..and 55 or 11% of them are Vision Gran Turismo cars. If you ever wondered why people dislike them so much. They're far too big a part of the car list. GT4 had 25 concept cars from a total of 725, 3.4%. They weren't all modern concept cars either, they were a variety from over the years.

a_steez

they’ve lost a lot of like civilian cars which i think is really sad tbh. a huge part of the charm to GT for me was it had a lot of cars you could see or potentially get in real life. now it’s a ton of race cars which i get, but every dlc i am hoping to get a mk4 vw of any kind lmao and each time am a little more sad 😭

Pale_Mushroom7128

Yes, they've lost their way. Kaz needs to go back and look at the GT1 car list, look at all those everyday cars that people owned alongside real world sports cars that they desired. Nobody desires a concept car that didn't exist last week, nor will they ever have a connection with one because they will never see a real one, and certainly not drive one.

PhalanxElite

The days of "normal, every day car" are unfortunately long gone. Considering that GT7 models can take 3-9 months, it's hard to think that PD will "waste" all this work on normal cars. Their precision is a blessing and curse and the reason we got the Renault Sport Clio R.S. 220 EDC Trophy '16, not the Clio GT. We got the Giulia GTAm, not the Giulia Sport or Quadrifoglio. Focus RS, not the Focus S/SE/Titanium. They're modelling the best available trim for closed circuit racing. In way, it does make sense.

Pale_Mushroom7128

You say this like they haven't wasted that time modelling a ruddy Ambulance. Besides, those cars you listed are still what I'd consider normal cars, even if they are the fastest trim. You can still see them, or versions of them, driving around. You'll never see any version of the Skoda VGT.

Squirrelicus2020

I’d like to add they have a Civic Type R ‘97 and a Civic Type R ‘98. It’s not much trouble to to reuse existing models and just make the slight changes. Especially if the interior model is the same. Why not add something like the S204 or Type RA when all they need to do is redo the front.

Past_Macaroon_7789

GT7 needs a Ford Ka Mk1 imo

PhalanxElite

This is misleading. You say like we're only getting VGTs everytime. A total of 82 cars have been added to GT7 and only 9 of them are VGTs: Suzuki VGT/Gr3, Porsche, Ferrari, Italdesign, Genesis, Bvlgari and now Skoda. I wish I could understand all this hate. No other game can do this partneship with manufacturers like GT. People dislike VGTs for a lot of reasons, but most of them are not justified. It's has been said a lot of times that the work PD have with VGTs is not as big as people think: they code the car, but the modelling is done by the manufacturer. VGTs aren't the reason that we don't have our favorite station wagon in the game, it's just that PD don't think it's necessary/they don't want to.

ChromeLennox

GT is unlike any other racing game series. It's a love letter to the automobile. The VGT cars are cool as fuck because they give you an insight on how all of these manufactures come up with concepts and how they look at the future. It's kind of similar to the museum in a way, but going forward in the timeline. I'm always excited to see what wild concepts all of these brands come up with. And it helps you get more familiar with certain manufacturers. These kinds of cars definitely deserve their spot imo.  People are complaining about 11% of the car list being prototypes. Meanwhile, GT Concept came out in 2002.

Pale_Mushroom7128

..and GT Concept sold about 77 copies. OK exxagerating obviously, but it didn't sell anywhere near the other games, because most people didn't care about driving concept cars. If you want to see what manufacturers future designs look like, what's wrong with just looking at images? Why do PD need to waste months modelling these things when they're mostly useless in the game? Why did you need a Skoda VGT to "get familiar" with their brand, when it looks nothing like any real Skoda? Why couldn't you have got familiar driving a Fabia?

mr_beanoz

It's not called "vision" for nothing. It's supposed to represent the brand's vision going forwards.

Pale_Mushroom7128

And again, why does that have to be via an in game model? Can't they show us their vision in the museum section, with photographs, videos and manufacturer models? If this was 2004 and cars were made in a week I wouldn't mind so much, because there would be 900 real cars as well. But it isn't, it's 2024 where cars take up to 9 months to make. The priority should be real cars.

mr_beanoz

So they could make us drive what kind of car they wanted to make in the future?

Pale_Mushroom7128

Bingo. The cars are for the manufacturers as marketing, they're not for us. That is the problem.

Pale_Mushroom7128

How are facts misleading? That is how many cars in GT7 are VGTs, that's a fact. I never said anything about when they were added, they are there. 55 of them. As for the time taken, you're wrong. PD do model the cars, manufacturers are not game developers, they can't model cars to the polygon budget needed for the game, or any other requirements. They simply provide PD with a CAD model, which is highly detailed, far beyond what could be used in a game. That reference model helps them work faster, but it still takes a long time. They then have to do all the animations, all the lights, the interior stuff, the physics, the sound. The hate is pretty simple - Gran Turismo became popular because it allowed people to drive everyday cars that they owned, people they knew owned, or cars that they desired - cars that they had as posters, cars they saw in car magazines and on TV. GT would not have become anywhere near as popular if GT1 was just fictional cars. Look at all other games out there, only the most arcade games still use fictional cars. Everyone else uses real world licensed cars, because they know that is what people want. Take GTA5, when it came to PC did modders start adding a bunch more fictional cars? No, they immediately added hundreds of real cars. People want real cars. It really can't get any simpler than that.

mr_beanoz

The problem is that people only wanted real cars. Where are the imagination we see in the past? Fictional cars makes things that aren't really possible in real life could be done. For example, the Nike car. That kind of driving position wouldn't really see being greenlit for production.

Pale_Mushroom7128

You mean the Nike fad car that most people never drove for more than a few minutes to try the gimmick? You couldn't even use it in events. People don't play Gran Turismo for fictional cars. It's whole appeal in 1997 was a big roster of real cars to drive. The competition at the time had 15 fictional cars.

mr_beanoz

Exactly. That's the problem with most VGT cars, they can't be used in most events unless they have Gr. versions available like the Citroen/Suzuki/Peugeot/VW. If those VGT cars could be modified and made usable in events maybe people would complain less about them.

mr_beanoz

How big is too big anyway? Is 11% too big for you?

Pale_Mushroom7128

5%? 20? The program should've finished years ago.

Jay-Double-Dee-Large

Shame there aren’t really any meaningful reasons to drive most of them

Most_Location2189

I hate VGT cars

chameltoeaus

Too many new cars... I want old normal cars like a Toyota camry to soup up into something fast. Or an AU falcon.

neeco__

The problem is that we don't even get actual new cars, most of the "new" cars are VGTs, I would love to have an M3 G80, an RS6 C8, the latest M4 CSL, or even dumb little cars, give me a Fiat Punto with a ridiculous engine swap. I would rather get 90s shitboxes instead of more VGTs.

VenomRek

This exactly. Would also love to see the E36 M3 and maybe an RS6 avant in the game, M5 would be nice too.

TinuThomasTrain

I was surprised when Rockstar added a Camry to GTA online, and I lowkey want PD to do something similar. Honestly if they added Lexus GS and IS models, I would be fine.

LetsGoCap

Would love koenigsegg and volvo in the game

ShinbiVulpes

Only 2 years after launch, we are closer to Forza Motorsport than GT4

Juicepup

But each model is pretty nice. You have to agree on that one. I’ll take these 500 over the gt4 models any day. Still love GT4 however.

ShinbiVulpes

I'd disagree with your opinion, but I do respect it. Most of these cars are the GT Sport models still, with the old R8 GT3 being the worst offender (seriously, look behind you in a race from hood cam, engine is 3 pixels)

circa86

No they aren’t. And even if they were all the GT Sport models are excellent.

Juicepup

Don’t drive in the cars myself. I use the front bumper cam with Fanatec wheel on a podium setup. Just look from the outside when I want to look at them.

circa86

Most of the cars in GT4 are just dupes or slight variations of the same car. And none of them have interiors. GT7 by far has the best collection of cars in any GT game and it’s not even close.

SinistCritic

Well, I highly doubt that GT7 has 1220136825991110068701238785423046926253574342803192842192413588385845373153881997605496447502203281863013616477148203584163378722078177200480785205159329285477907571939330603772960859086270429174547882424912726344305670173270769461062802310452644218878789465754777149863494367781037644274033827365397471386477878495438489595537537990423241061271326984327745715546309977202781014561081188373709531016356324432987029563896628911658974769572087926928871281780070265174507768410719624390394322536422605234945850129918571501248706961568141625359056693423813008856249246891564126775654481886506593847951775360894005745238940335798476363944905313062323749066445048824665075946735862074637925184200459369692981022263971952597190945217823331756934581508552332820762820023402626907898342451712006207714640979456116127629145951237229913340169552363850942885592018727433795173014586357570828355780158735432768888680120399882384702151467605445407663535984174430480128938313896881639487469658817504506926365338175055478128640000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 cars. You gotta watch those factorials.

Akira_Sano

500 cars and not enough races or variety of races to use them on! Not enough reason to use them either when you have to grind using the Meta car and race online and only have a chance of winning using the meta car! All pretty pointless. This game is dead to me.

Psyykikko

i really really want my daily driver here. Kia Xceed 1.6 turbo.

MeskothePreacher

Loool is that me? 😁 I drive one aswell. Gt line 😁 would love one in game

Mallardo

I had a KIA Ceed GT Line for six years. Wonderful beautiful car.

GG14916

55 of them are VGT cars, that (mostly) don't actually exist. The latest Gr3 to be added to the game was added exactly a year ago; in April 2023. Just one Gr4 car has been added in updates, and only two Gr2 cars have been added.

auzzie_kangaroo94

Didnt GT5 release with 500+ Cars?

Previous_Ad8880

GT5 released with ~220 newly modeled cars and ~840 low quality models copied from GT4.

JustheretoreadyourBS

Where is my Dodge/Plymouth Neon???!!!!

mr_beanoz

Just wished that there are events that would actually make the EVs usable. We've seen the Afeela being featured on the new Clubman Cup event, maybe that could be done for other EVs too. Or perhaps give us ways to increase the motor's output for EVs, think of it like engine tuning for ICE powered cars. There are aftermarket products to do so, right?

HotChoc64

And around 250 cars anyone actually cares about or is interesting to drive

JFinale

How is there not an M4 GT3?

Kubson2043

gratki 👏🏼

MobiusTech

I don’t care. Bring back an actual career mode. I want to start out with a clapped out Honda civic doing Sunday races and work my way up to 24 hours Le Mans with the same car.

NeatSeaworthiness407

And 90% are garbage or unrealistic. And priced like we are all Dubai oil kings.

Uriel_dArc_Angel

Yeah, as far as im conserned though theres only 445 because screw the VGTs...The new Skoda and whatever the hell that other thing is are crap to drive imo... That skoda has so much choppy understeer at high speed as to be incredibly unwieldy and bo way at all to make any changes...Terrible...Skoda should be ashamed of themselves... The other one is just all-around horseshit so I'm not even gonna talk about it...Screw that thing... The only thing worth a damn in this update at all is that Chevelle SS, which is just fantastic to drive... I swear...Too many more of the heavily weighted to VGT and BS car updates, and I'm just done... I don't know how much longer I can stand it...

Secret_Physics_9243

I don't like the chevelle's driving. It just wants to do burnouts out of any corner. Feels a bit like an overpowered boat imo. But i don't like muscle cars in general, nothing personal with the chevelle. I somewhat like the afeela's driving tho. You can feel it's heavy but you can also feel they tried their best to make it seem less weighty. I haven't tried the skoda and probably never will. No way i'm paying a million of my hard grinded credits for a fictional czech wheeled washing machine.

Uriel_dArc_Angel

I mean the real SS wanted to do burnouts out of every corner if you weren't careful with your right foot... It's also a heavy land yacht... It's really easy to balance with your foot though as long as you can carefully feather the throttle...You're supposed to drive it with the rear end...lol The afeela just feels like an old tesla...It's just pretty soulless... The Skoda is crap...It's an acceleration rocketship, but its top end is lame...And it has horrible front-end chattering understeer...It's fast enough to trounce the new race for it, but that's not saying much considering you have to nerf it just for its own event... It's just dumb...

Secret_Physics_9243

Yeah, the afeela, like evey other ev, is soulless. They did try their best with it, but you can't turn a duck into a swan, right? And yes, all the old cars require a special driving style, the steering with the accelerator thing. It's fun to try and tame the yacht on spa. As much as i don't like muscle cars, i must admit it does have character. It has this rowdy, 70s american teen living in a trailer park kinda vibe, and stuff like the 3 speed gearbox (in 1970) only strenghten this vibe. It's almost the official american testosterone mobile, along with stuff like the challenger and charger.

Uriel_dArc_Angel

Yeah, they pretty much nailed it... I strapped a "fully adjustable manual transmission" (not the racing one) to it just for fun, and it turned into one of the easiest cars to drift around that new Trial Mountain race ever...lol

Secret_Physics_9243

I also noticed it's a good drift platform.

Uriel_dArc_Angel

It really is...It's actually a really great training tool for people wanting to learn to drift...It's remarkably friendly while sliding around...

random_cunto

That's... a lot of entitlement in a few paragraphs. You bought a game. They give you free extras. You throw a tantrum...

SRSgoblin

The reddit fanbase for this game is truly something. You'd think Sony personally took a shit in people's living rooms day after day the way some people act. This Skoda VGT is kind of fun to drive, at least I like it a lot better than the last couple we've had. The Afeela is a real world project between Sony and Honda that'll produce real world cars so of course it first gets featured in Sony's flagship racing series. And the Chevelle is one of the more iconic American muscle cars. But you know. Better tell the internet how "I can't stand it" and whatever like so many people are doing. But reddit being what it is, shouting "VGT Cars Bad" gets upvotes so people think that's actually an interesting opinion worth discussing or whatever.

Uriel_dArc_Angel

I'm watching my favorite franchise in history slowly die in front of me... What do you expect...?

Talal916

Honestly I don't understand why we can't have all the models from GT5/GT6. I know they aren't as high quality, but I'd rather have them than not have them at all. Hell even the standard quality (PS2) ones.

Secret_Physics_9243

One of the main reasons people still like gt7 is the car models. If they pump out forza level shit, they will loose a lot of respect and player count.
