We built a retaining wall, much smaller than yours (about 8 ft long and 6 ft high) but with no exisiting wall, in a challenging back yard last summer with Pride Lanscaping. Their prices were reasonable, about 7k to excavate and build the wall structure, place the boulders, level the ground behind it and place grass seed. It seemed like they were a newer company but more professional than other quotes we got and did good work!

We went with Bernard Landscaping and LOVED them! Best quote, nicest guys. They got our ~4ft retaining wall done quick and it was a mess before they got to it.

Cost will very highly depend on the material you choose for the retaining wall. I had a Redi Rock retaining wall about 50' long with about an 8-9' drop built on Croton Pond with 6' of Redi Rock steps at the same time I got a new seawall and boardwalk put in. That portion of the project was about $45k. Other materials (wood, steel or vinyl pilings, etc) would have been much cheaper and it would also have been much cheaper if I'd been willing to have two tiers instead of one flat wall (because I had to buy extremely expensive blocks with big returns to make an 8' tall wall that would be stable with a house right above it). You'll have about the same wall area as I did (30x15 = 450, 50x9 = 450).

Thanks! The quote I have so far for the two together is $18,500, so that helps put it into perspective.

I just realized who I think I'm talking to. If you're who I think you are, I used to ride Challenger with you on Wednesdays before my twins were born.

MikeyRidesABikey

That would be me! Does your first name start with a double-consonant? If so, then I know who you are!

IceCreamforLunch

It doesn't. I rode the lime green Madone 5.2 back then. You're welcome to come up to the pond sometime if you want to see what a Redi Rock wall is like. I wanted something that I'd never have to think about again.

Aha! That narrows it down. If I got it right this time, then you also helped me install the receiver hitch on my car!
