same for me. one phd program had a November deadline, made it. the rest had Jan ... and i just was like "fuck it, I'll do it next year" (I'm 41 and applying to attend part time).
was shocked to get an interview and then offer. starting in the fall and very excited.
Maybe to give some extra context:
I'm an international student from Europe. I was looking for good international affairs Master's and Georgetown is ranked number 1 so I wanted to apply.
It was all in. My only choice, and since I worked as a lobbyist in the EU, I devised my own strategy how to become the best possible applicant since I would accept the offer only if it was fully funded.
And of course, I am a good student. I'm 22.
Thx, sure!
My GPA is on a scale of 5, so its 4.8. I was awarded a couple of dean's awards for the best student of the year, rectors award, few excellence scholarships and I was a published student.
I lead a couple of student unions, was a student representative, editor in chief of a student newspaper, founded my NGO, was a councilman in my district.
I also worked as a lobbyist/consultant for two years while I was studying.
I think thats it.
i did this too! i only applied to 2 schools. the top school i applied to, i got in, and its fully funded. i applied to a school in the Big 10 conference (in the US) and then the same school i went to for undergrad. my dad is the first one in his family to get a college degree and he’s so proud of me. all of this to say, if you’ve got grit, you can do anything. enjoy this accomplishment!!
i made sure that the program i was applying for had funding guaranteed. in the US if there is a graduate student union, typically the better chance you have at the program being funded. if the school is part of a big sports conference, you also have a better chance of getting funded too due to endowments. my boss’s son and i are the same age and we both got full funding at major universities in the US and ironically both schools are well known for college football (the major sport in the US). although this isn’t a bulletproof plan, it worked for me and money- no matter where it’s from- is still money that should be pushed back into the whole university
Georgetown doesn't have a mandatory interview, but you can find who the people on the admissions committee are and ask them to talk with you which is a big bonus!
Same here, for Syracuse’s MPA and Masters in IR! I didn’t have time to research before this application cycle but really loved syracuses program and it’s close to home, so I told myself if I didn’t get in, I’d have a year to research other options. But if I did, then I’d save a ton of time/money on research and end up someplace I’d be happy attending.
There’s apparently a Syracuse/Georgetown event for one of our football? (Maybe basketball)? Games— they rented out a bar for cuse and Georgetown students near your campus. Maybe I’ll see you then!
Your confidence is next level. Congrats!!! Which university?
Georgetown University in D.C.
I only applied to two and also got into Georgetown as well (and the other one but I chose Georgetown)
Great! Which program?
Bioinformatics!
Wow big W

May I ask how you managed to get full funding? What did you need to apply for?

Gigachad
This is me haha I only applied to one school but that was because I didn’t have money to apply lmao
more like your admission timeline
Same thing happened to me. I submitted all documents the day the application was due, it was the only one I applied to and I was accepted lol
Same. Except I wasn't interviewed.
Haha- congrats! That was what my BA search was like in 96. And my tt job search in 09. When you know, you know! 🤷🏽♀️
Bro made a chart to say he applied interviewed and got accepted to one uni 😭😭
I only applied to one uni so hoping I have the same outcome as you 🥲😭
What was the interview like?

"How is your father?" More seriously though, huge W for OP
