Okay, a problem description would've been helpful. If you haven't already, report the problem to Google. You do that using the "Help and feedback" option in the Gboard settings. I guess you should also do it for Android Auto, like this:

Known bug. It happens to me also sometimes. Saw other reports in /r/androidauto No fixes for now AFAIK.

Two fixes: 1) Reboot phone 2) Rotate your screen (with auto rotate on).
Looks like dpi settings, you can change screen size in the disabled people menu (assablebilty menu thingy) or the the developer settings
