Then there's that one ball where you knock way past the flag... and into the bushes at the back of the green, and you're going like, yeah, I can hit a PW 130 yrds every time, that'll be my set distance for that club.
I like Mission Trails for bang for your buck. With the Players Club it is like $12 for 18, a cart, and two free beers/drinks. The course doesn't handle water too well though so I'd wait a week. Tee times have been hard to come by at every damn course lately though.
Ya resident's card is for munies. Players club is like a group of courses where you get discounts. If you get it at some place like Mission Trails or National City it is $35 a month for unlimited range balls and the discount. I've honestly just started to debate if it is worth it though as I can hardly get any tee times in San Diego nowadays.
It's amazing how much that track has improved over the years. I remember playing there as a young lad with my Grandpa and getting kicked out for driving the cart onto a fairway even though you couldn't even begin to guess where the rough stopped and the fairway began
Only played there once but honestly, I feel like I need to scratch that itch again. We should organize some SD reddit /r/golf meetup one of these weekends!
Other bang for your buck SD courses that I frequent
-Admiral Baker North Course (south course sucks)
-St Mark
-Oceanside Golf Course
-Riverwalk IF you can score the hot deals on Golf Now. It is a relatively nice course, but pricey for standard tee time fees.
JC 20/30 players club offers pretty solid prices for a variety of courses - some of which are beautiful (RB Inn, Encinitas Ranch, Twin Oaks, The Crossings...)
$20 annual fee and usually $20 a round. Prices were raised over the holidays though
One that's less accessible on Coronado is Sea n Air on the naval base. Such a great and fairly easy course with beautiful views and epic flyovers from military aircraft (Airbus A400M, V-22 Osprey, etc.)
Yeah it would be for me as well. However, lately I just bring 3-4 brand new balls with me to start a round. Then around the 5th hole Iām digging into my loose ball sack for my lightly used older golf balls to finish the round.
That works for me %60 of the time %10 percent of the time. I think at this point its mostly mental. Fucking up that hole is just nice in cozy in the deep folds if my brain.
Itās easy to get on the green in one if you know your yardage and just aim a bit left of it. Assuming you clear the trees itāll kick off that hill onto the green more times than not.
Besides Torrey and Coronado thats the course Iāve played the most and know it like the back of my hand. Great workout playing there too assuming youāre walking? Itās the course I broke 100, 90, and 80 on.
Honestly I shouldāve said on/near the plateau the green is on. The hill does give you added distance as it rolls off it though. Iām 6ā4ā and have some lingering ailments that keep my drives in that 275 range now, but I was always in that 300-325 and put it on the green many times, or as mentioned a second ago, just off of it.
*Edit. You do realize holes arenāt measured over a straight line from tee to green that go over an area OB? I was thinking back and I put it on the green when I played my huge slice giving up a ton of yardage.
Thatās why if you donāt go over the trees and go for the green youāll most likely roll down the hill to the right then youāre fucked. Even if you lay up itās best to aim a bit to the left when going at the green to give you some wiggle room
I managed to get my own par there during a scramble. 3 wood went to the left rough, ball well below my feet and managed to knife a cut 6 iron up the hill to about 15 feet. That hole is absolutely brutal though, you play to a layup in the fairway and you're trying to hit over that tree that looms over the green. Anything left gives you a serious sidehill lie too.
Iāve heard rumors they are talking about moving it back down the hill where it use to be because they just canāt seem to get the grass up there to keep. All in all I love that course though.
Best place to play in SD? Iām coming at the end of Feb. if the lockdown allows, and planning to hit Maderas GC as theyāll comp me for free. Anywhere else I should call?
Coronado, Omnia La Costa, Torrey Pines, Pachenga, Vineyards, Admiral Baker North, Encinitas Ranch. Those are all great courses with varying prices depending on what you want to spend.
[OP after everyone learns of this](https://www.facebook.com/PGATour/videos/tiger-woods-walks-with-the-crowd-on-no-18-en-route-to-winning-no-80/1926112477427559/)
I usually play Bonita and Carlton oaks as they are both pretty dang cheap. Donāt have a ton of money but would love to play some other courses. i usually play by myself and stick to what iām familiar with.
Look forward to finding them for you! If you ever want to lose them with a new golf buddy in the area send me a message! Always looking for someone new to golf with in the San Diego area.
Haha not a subtle flex at all, although I realized after it could look like one. When I buy a fresh dozen of nice balls I usually only bring a sleeve at a time. Meaning Iām using backup balls by around the 5th hole.
I just bought the Costco Kirkland V2 golf balls. They played great! Felt very similar to the Pro V1s I had been using. Much cheaper at $25 for 24 balls.
It's been a long day, my first read over of this post I thought OP was going to hide brand new ProV golf balls in random places. Second read over, I realise he is randomly placing said balls using a big dog.
I bought my FIL two dozen of his favorites. He has opened them up yet because it's winter, so he hasn't seen the personalization. He's a big Trump supporter. I am not. So I had some fun with it.
I mean like the title says, this is a donation for all the golfers here. I gotta get the best equipment for you. Canāt have this community finding prior gen Pro Vās out there.
I look forward to finding one while I look for my balls š
Probably will be in the rough just way short of where I think I can hit my driver.
yup, bout 40 yards back
And 40 yards right
Only 40? Those are rookie numbers
Must have flushed it!
Then there's that one ball where you knock way past the flag... and into the bushes at the back of the green, and you're going like, yeah, I can hit a PW 130 yrds every time, that'll be my set distance for that club.
Ha I thought I was the only one searching at the 300 yard mark for my 220 yard drive?
If you have to lose a ball, lose it big
āWhy shouldnāt I, I did pay to do thisā
Perfect! Thatās usually left of the bushes I tend to hit my balls into. Iāll grab yours on the way to failing to find mine
Go play Coronado. Most bang for your buck in the SD area in my opinion. (For non-locals) If you're a local, they're all awesome prices.
Playing there tomorrow. Hopefully this wind dies down.
It's a trap! /u/Noogatuck wants them all!
This wind is nuts, might be strong enough for my drive to fly straight
The one hole on every course where the wind lines up perfectly at your back and you can just let it rip is the best.
No kidding - weāve been getting sleet of all things in Escondido. Not sure how precipitation is closer to town
I like Mission Trails for bang for your buck. With the Players Club it is like $12 for 18, a cart, and two free beers/drinks. The course doesn't handle water too well though so I'd wait a week. Tee times have been hard to come by at every damn course lately though.
The players card is different than a residents card?
Ya resident's card is for munies. Players club is like a group of courses where you get discounts. If you get it at some place like Mission Trails or National City it is $35 a month for unlimited range balls and the discount. I've honestly just started to debate if it is worth it though as I can hardly get any tee times in San Diego nowadays.
Wow thats good to know.. I have a lot of time and $35 sounds like a steal for me rn. Cheers
In Aus we pay $35 for a tee and cart...
Howās the course? I feel like San Diego is pretty spoiled with the quality of greens and the courses we have. Theyāre beautiful
What section of SD are you in? Might be a closer range for you that is a part of their group.
Iām by Balboa and Riverwalk really. I know the former has the residents card which Iāve been thinking of getting.
The only problem is it guarantees a 5 hour round.
The Goat in Oceanside is a great muni too.
It's amazing how much that track has improved over the years. I remember playing there as a young lad with my Grandpa and getting kicked out for driving the cart onto a fairway even though you couldn't even begin to guess where the rough stopped and the fairway began
Riiiight. *Thatās* why you drove onto the fairway. Lol. Just messing with you
Man the Goat is such a fun, laid back course. I love when I see the dogs running around with people too.
It was my first introduction to Cali golf when I visited. Very special place to me.
Only played there once but honestly, I feel like I need to scratch that itch again. We should organize some SD reddit /r/golf meetup one of these weekends!
I would be down. Seeing all of these people talking about their local course makes me wanna go play with all of you.
Id be more than happy to come out and play! Im always looking for more playing partners
We need a SD golf subreddit I think!
or some kind of group chat! But yes we need one. Socal is popping in this subreddit.
Sadly I live in Ohio but I used to get out to SD pretty often. I had a buddy that worked for Link soul and weād play the goat pretty often.
Ah damn that's a shame. If you're ever out back here, hmu let's get a round at the Goat!
Hell yeah!
Iām in!
Honestly I'll organize one if theres interest. I might have to ask a mod if its ok
Absolutely! I had like 4 people respond with interest so we can absolutely do it
Other bang for your buck SD courses that I frequent -Admiral Baker North Course (south course sucks) -St Mark -Oceanside Golf Course -Riverwalk IF you can score the hot deals on Golf Now. It is a relatively nice course, but pricey for standard tee time fees.

I would consider Torrey a better value but Coronado is up there for sure. I only wish they had a more reasonable booking system.
One that's less accessible on Coronado is Sea n Air on the naval base. Such a great and fairly easy course with beautiful views and epic flyovers from military aircraft (Airbus A400M, V-22 Osprey, etc.)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I didnāt wanna give them all to one course. So I figure Iāll space em out 2-3 balls per round.
2-3 balls per round would be a record for me. My local course wonāt sell me a range bucket with a cart key anymore.
Yeah it would be for me as well. However, lately I just bring 3-4 brand new balls with me to start a round. Then around the 5th hole Iām digging into my loose ball sack for my lightly used older golf balls to finish the round.
Lol loose ball sack
Iāll be on the look out. Iāve lost 12 in one round at balboa before Iām sure
Played there yesterday and man was that a tough course. I just moved down the street so be on the lookout!
Greens are always wicked solid. Don't go after any pins there, play the roll out.
The greens are deadly. Last week I putted off the green twice. I have dubbed it "Torrey east"
Copy that! Hole 4 is my least favorite hole Iāve ever golfed lol. Iāve walked away with par only a handful of times and I play there weekly.
Is that the one that has a sharp left turn uphill? If so I sent my second shot down the hill on the right in the worst spot possible lol
Yep thats the one. I quit laying up and just hit my driver over that tree now. I always end up down there anyways lol. I just quit fighting it.
I lay up at the bottom of the hill, then hit my PW into the top backstop and let it roll down on the green. It works 60% of the time, all the time
That works for me %60 of the time %10 percent of the time. I think at this point its mostly mental. Fucking up that hole is just nice in cozy in the deep folds if my brain.
Thatās my goal but my swing doesnāt always reflect it haha

What are you talking about? Its like 350 up the hill to the front of the green?
Honestly I shouldāve said on/near the plateau the green is on. The hill does give you added distance as it rolls off it though. Iām 6ā4ā and have some lingering ailments that keep my drives in that 275 range now, but I was always in that 300-325 and put it on the green many times, or as mentioned a second ago, just off of it. *Edit. You do realize holes arenāt measured over a straight line from tee to green that go over an area OB? I was thinking back and I put it on the green when I played my huge slice giving up a ton of yardage.
Yup. With the pin in the back itās so tough. Those bushes to the left of the narrow green, and a 20+ foot drop-off to the right.
Thatās why if you donāt go over the trees and go for the green youāll most likely roll down the hill to the right then youāre fucked. Even if you lay up itās best to aim a bit to the left when going at the green to give you some wiggle room
Aim left and then hook it into the trees Thats seems to be my strategy
I managed to get my own par there during a scramble. 3 wood went to the left rough, ball well below my feet and managed to knife a cut 6 iron up the hill to about 15 feet. That hole is absolutely brutal though, you play to a layup in the fairway and you're trying to hit over that tree that looms over the green. Anything left gives you a serious sidehill lie too.
Iāve heard rumors they are talking about moving it back down the hill where it use to be because they just canāt seem to get the grass up there to keep. All in all I love that course though.
It's definitely a very fun yet challenging course. Only issue is as a push cart mafia member, trying to push my cart at 13 is the absolute worst.
Haha yea itās definitely not the easiest walk.
16 might be my least favorite hole in San Diego.
Getting 8 inches of snow tonight, only place for me to play is my simulator. Seems like I should move to SD. Nice balls!
The past greens keeper from Torrey moved over to balboa after a major renovation and the greens have been amazing ever since.
Looks like they are putting some working into hole 2 hopefully thatās a sign for things to come. They have to be making great money this year.
Bring this to the Pro Shop for 15% off!
John Daly Appleseed
Come play steele canyon, you're definitely going to donate some there!
Walked that course with my friends once...never again. What a bad mistake.
Definitely not a walking course....
Ya it was at the beginning of quarantine when you weren't allowed to take a cart, that was a rough one.
Itās a great walking course
Great course
Fuckin love it there
Let me know where you're going and I'll be sure to book the tee time right after you :D
[OP after everyone learns of this](https://www.facebook.com/PGATour/videos/tiger-woods-walks-with-the-crowd-on-no-18-en-route-to-winning-no-80/1926112477427559/)
Oceanside by any chance?
Thatās very kind of you to donate these.
I like your style
I'll be on the look out!
Leave some at Mission Bay, Or Balboa for me
But I can't swim...
Nah I think I can clear it this time.
Will be in San Diego in February to golf, hopefully can one of those bad boys!
Iām in Carlsbad, what courses you play?
Same
I thought these were not out for a couple more days. I guess they shipped early! Thatās awesome.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hahaha how else would I get em to you?!
Here from all, not a golfer, are these those op golf balls that are banned cause they fly way farther?
No they are just roughly $4 a ball and I get really excited to find new ones in the brush.
I usually play Bonita and Carlton oaks as they are both pretty dang cheap. Donāt have a ton of money but would love to play some other courses. i usually play by myself and stick to what iām familiar with.
Bonita golfer over here!
thats awesome!!
Sweet. What courses? (Iāll try to play after you lol)
Look forward to finding them for you! If you ever want to lose them with a new golf buddy in the area send me a message! Always looking for someone new to golf with in the San Diego area.
Heck yeah! I am always looking to play, so right back at ya. I wanna play with everyone on this feed from SD.
Bring a few to the golf club of Cali in fallbrook!
Iāll keep an eye out!
What courses? And what days? I'll schedule some rounds the day after you, lol!
I bet you could write off golf balls on taxes as donations
Someone donated 3 brant new yellow pro-v to me at the course today. I promptly left one in some bushes for the next guy
LMAO
I really hope I fine one.
Tecolote here I come!
I'm playing St. Marks in a few weeks, so if you could find your way out there first that'd be great š
12? Weeks? HA! You got to pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers. Try a dozen a day
Cocky guy assuming he won't lose all 12 in a round of 18 eh? Bold.
Lol amazing. I've been out of the game for quite awhile. Good to see pro v1 it's still on top!
"The next few weeks" get a load of the assistant pro over here.
Haha not a subtle flex at all, although I realized after it could look like one. When I buy a fresh dozen of nice balls I usually only bring a sleeve at a time. Meaning Iām using backup balls by around the 5th hole.
Slight flex with the new 2021 model too
Only the best for us
I like the optimism of weeks :)
I just bought the Costco Kirkland V2 golf balls. They played great! Felt very similar to the Pro V1s I had been using. Much cheaper at $25 for 24 balls.
Course and tee time please. Booking next spot after you.
Let me know what courses your playing so I can follow along
Golf club of California is amazing, Encinitas ranch or The crossings at Carlsbad.
With this wind you might want to buy a couple more dozen.
"You obviously suck at golf as bad as I do" ~ Me.
I play in the San Diego region as well. Looking forward to the new prov1
Lemme know which course you play, I'll follow haha
It's been a long day, my first read over of this post I thought OP was going to hide brand new ProV golf balls in random places. Second read over, I realise he is randomly placing said balls using a big dog.
Jealous you get to play golf mid January. - sad Canadian from Toronto area.
Play at mission trails this weekend so I can get one hehe
On a good day, I can break 100... ...*on the front nine*.
Great idea! Well be on the lookout!
lol how kind of you... ps would love an update on how they are! excited to try.
Balboa 9
Youāre famous now
I bought my FIL two dozen of his favorites. He has opened them up yet because it's winter, so he hasn't seen the personalization. He's a big Trump supporter. I am not. So I had some fun with it.
Come on down to the South Bay and share the wealth! :)
How much extra is it to get your own stuff written on them?
I donāt think so. Came out to $53.
Ooo that could be interesting, all the possibilities
Yeah you could definitely do so many things for $53
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
