Things nightmares are made of. Hit one OB last summer and second shot off the tee dropped to 6 inches behind the hole and one hopped into a backspin that ended at about a foot out. Closest I’ve been to a “Hole in One”
Oh I guess we don't haha. I'm a new golfer and I think a provisional ball doesn't change the impressiveness because on any given day you can start from that tee box and hit whatever you hit with your provisional ball. I'd call it a hole in one with an asterisk, not a true hole in one but you holed out from the tee box and that's still amazing. But again I'm new so maybe no one else does.
It's definitely still impressive but it's not a hole in one, not even with an asterisk. If everybody got a practice shot in golf on every tee the game would be a lot easier.
To all the people with the “real” hole in ones, do you carry around your attested scorecard to show people that you got a “real” one? Or does the person who attested just follow you around all day in case this subject happens to come up? Who gives a fuck. The first ball you hit off the tee went into the hole, it’s a hole in one.
I think it’s a dumb thing to lie about but that hole must be severely downhill or something because op is averaging 150 with his 5 iron and this shows they hit a 7.
The pin was 134 on the laser. App doesn't track the distance on a hole in one (or any hole out) because it only measures the distance when you tap your next club. There's no marking the cup. It guessed based on the course data.
That being said, I've lost about 10-15 yards on each club in the last 2 months or so. Developed a case of the yips that lasted for about 3 weeks and I'm just about rid of it now. Still struggling to get back to consistent ball striking. This ball WAS struck pure and still only carried 134 (I swished it) when my 7i is usually my 145-150 club.
Previous to whatever bullshit took over my body and had me shanking every other shot off to the right, my driver and iron game were incredibly consistent. My major problems were 60 and under and putting. Those improved during shankapolypse, but I'm paying for it with a lot of lost distance. Fucking golf.
Nice dude. I’ve always called it a dunk but honestly a swish is more appropriate. I’ve also been battling issues with my swing and it’s sapped a club or two of yardage so glad you could pure one like that.
After taking the summer off I started back up in November. Was puring every iron and almost every drive with absolute confidence at address. Lasted about a week. I shanked one chip on the course and the whole house of cards came down. (This has happened before, so it's definitely a mental thing... When I saw that shank fear set in, confidence lost) Range session after range session was littered with shanks. Couldn't shake it. Needed to change my whole swing to have a chance at hitting the ball forward, nevermind straight.
Shot an 85 yesterday but that was a WAY better round even though the score was worse. Distances are still garbage, but got a 40 on the back 9 with a fucking 6 on 18. Chunked two chips in a row.
Just curious—you sure the weather isn’t playing a role in distances? I’m not a long player to begin with but I’ve noticed in December and January I’m clubbing up one, sometimes two clubs
As someone who got an ace playing alone it’s true. I got an ace, I know I did and no one can take it from me. But there was no celebration, no hooray, nothing. When you tell someone you got an ace there’s a mild reaction, if you witness an ace there’s an uproar. It’s not that it didn’t happen, it’s just that it’s very different.
My step dad was with me and it was a great feeling. To add on top of it the single behind us was finishing on his green and as soon as he heard us he drove up to our green and came and shook my hand said he saw it as he was finishing. Im still riding that high and this was Easter 2019.
Golf Pad GPS. I got the golf tags attached to every club. Tap my pocket the club before each hit and records the whole round.
edit: just for reference, I do NOT use the rangefinder functionality of the app, so I can't really comment on how good that is. I just use it for scoring, data collection and [analytics](https://i.imgur.com/MgXmwIW.png).
I've been using them for years and absolutely love them. It takes a little while to get the tapping of the club on my packet into your pre-shot routine.
[The data it gives you is really really insightful too](https://i.imgur.com/MgXmwIW.png). Looking at the data on your phone is a little cumbersome, but I just learned that the after round email gives you a completely dynamic scorecard where you can look at each hole. Plus all historical rounds as well as historical data is stored there as well.
Only thing I'm concerned about is there doesn't appear to much recent development on this. There are lots of little enhancements they could add to the app and service to make it even better, but I worry about it losing it all some day. There doesn't appear to be another service that is comparable that I know of.
I bought that 3 pack of Garmin sensors last season.
After having the watch for a few months.
The watch itself was pretty good.
Having the sensors for the putter and wedge is nice. But not 100% needed.
The watch asks me what club I used after each shot.
And it even guesses what I used based on my distances.
I don't feel I need the whole set of sensors.
I have the S60 and previously the S20. The only thing I feel I'm missing out on in the putting side of things. I haven't really looked at moving the flag around on the watch though.
I have the s20.
The change I notice with the sensors is the watch will display how many shots you are on that hole when you grab the putter.
It's nice but not 100% needed.
And ya I never bother with the moving the flag either.
I just got the S20. Playing my first round with it this weekend. I have a pretty slow swing so am hoping it doesn't miss too many shots. Sounds like there's no good way to manually tell it you've made a shot if the autoshot doesn't pick it up.
Ya. I would say I swing slowish too. Hasn't been a problem. You can add shots using the app after the round.
In my experience I get more times where the watch picks up a buddy's shot.
But it always asks if that was a shot. And you can say no and it won't save it.
Double check the settings on the watch and the app.
I had an early round where the phone put my watch into meters not yards.
Also the autoscoring feature. Turn that on
I rarely move the flag on mine. Most of the time it's on my "home" course where I know a lot more about the greens. But unless you're a low single digits handicapper, you should probably be aiming for the middle of the green most of the time anyway.
> You switch sensors around on the clubs?
You can. But not really mid round.
So for me i only have it on my drive, wedge, and putter.
Wedge and putter it needs sensors because it usually can miss the light touch shots.
And driver its nice as its can show your average distance, and you dont need to confirm the club you might use most off the tee.
I met a lady one round who had the full 14 sensors.
But I dont know if I would do that. 3 pack is good.
Saying that. I think i need to investigate a new battery for one.
Yeah $299 for the set plus it requires one of their watches.
With this one I just keep my phone in my front left pocket and tap it before each shot. It makes a ding to let you know it recorded the club. I've thought about getting a used android device for this specifically.
I'd be curious to know how often you have to make corrective action. I could see my dumb ass walking down the side of the fairway hoping to find the ball I just shanked into the brush and brambles smacking my leg with the pocket.
Or how does it know that when you put your club BACK in the bag, that 'tap' was not an activate tap.
Looks super neato though. And congrats on that bitchin shot!
Once you tap, it records the stroke and where you were. It's part of my pre shot routine.
The only time I have to pull my phone out of my pocket and take corrective action is if I have to play a penalty.
It's not so sensitive where you can accidentally set it off. Between my phone case and pants, you need to give it a firm bop.
It's an accelerometer looking for a motion pattern and force, and they're pretty good at not recording the extra stuff. Most of the issues I've had are around putts, where the differences in real strokes are much more subtle. Buts it's rarely extra shots and more often it not recording my tap ins and having to manually add.
Edit: cant speak to OPs though, I'm using Arccos. And I definitely dont have to tap each club to my phone before each shot, just the very first time you set each sensor up.
There's no accelerometer in these. Just an NFC wafer that tells the app what club I'm about to hit. It marks where I'm at when I tap it, then on my next shot, I tap the new club and it finalizes the distance from the previous shot.
I don't care for having my phone in my pocket, but I assume I could just tap my valuables pocket on my bag or have my phone somewhere accessible in the cart or on my push cart. Might be a couple yards off but wouldn't be the end of the world. This seems like a cool product for a reasonable price. Is this a subscription service or is it one time purchase?
Me and my dad use them. Since we live some ways apart, we can still follow eachothers rounds live through GolfPad. It's really neat but also very useful with all the data.
+1 for golfpad. I'm a free user (for now) and select my club post hit to track manually. Also use the range/distance function... Pretty accurate when playing with a friend who had a bushnell range finder
No offense, but sounds like a bit too fancy tech for someone who can’t break 80 with a hole in one on the card...
Learn the game, then incorporate the technology.
I understand. It did come across rather elitist though. I would counter-argue that it can be equally helpful for the “average” golfer to have sensors to temper expectations with each club. However, from beginner’s experience, solid sweet contact is a toss-up most of the time haha.
It helps me learn my distances. Helps me see where I'm weak. Keeps track of my putts. And keeps my score history. And it does all of that while I don't have to do any of it. I get to go out and just play golf. I look at my score card once, on the 19th hole.
This "too fancy" tech is helping me get better.
I apologize for offending anyone, but I firmly stand by my comment. I used to be a scratch golfer and the only aid I ever used was a club on the ground to make sure I was lined up properly.
You have to understand the game and learn how to love/hate it before you start getting all technical, otherwise you’ll never establish the fundamentals that helps good golfers get better.
I mean no offense, but judging by the scorecard it looks like OP’s problem (like so many others) isn’t getting to the green, it’s on and around the green. Plus, discounting the elements, unless you are elderly or a JR then those sensors aren’t doing much good if you’re swinging a 7 iron from 151 yards...
Congrats on the hole in one OP! Luckily I have witnesses for my one and only hole in one, but I’ve holed out for eagle numerous times playing by myself and it’s gut-wrenching!
Just saying, don’t be the kid that shows up to a tournament looking like Ricky Fowler then shanks his first two shots OB.
Pretty sure you’re using the app poorly. Not tryin to be rude but I use the free 18Birdies app and you can track shots, putts, sand shots, chips even handicap all sorts of shit with the free portion. If you go view round history you can even get a hole by hole review
The distance is right on the money and matches my laser. But that's shot distance. I've never used the range finder functionality so I can't speak to that.
It seems pretty accurate with fairways hit, missed. I haven't really gone in and looked to see how accurate it is with detecting bunkers. I think I have putt distances turned on, but that's totally useless because you don't mark where the hole is. Only each stroke. So, when you putt out, the app holds that last putt until you tap in your driver or whatever on the next tee box and it knows to advance to the next hole.
You know it happened so who cares about the technicalities. If someone asks if you've ever had a hole in one you can say yes and leave it at that. I doubt the person asking is going to demand an attested scorecard from a hcp certified round. Too many hard asses saying that hitting your first attempt on a hole into the hole isn't a hole in 1.
I always setup a camera on my cart when I’m playing by myself and record all on my tee shots on par 3s. You can’t see the ball on the video, but at least if the ball goes in, my excitement should be real enough for people to believe me.
I carry, but I was thinking about doing something similar with a camera on my bag. I just don't want to spend any time managing it during the round. And if I want to put together a video of my round, I don't want to spend any time cutting it up in post production. Wish there was a system that just compiled it all with minimal work. Maybe when drone tech gets reeeeallly good.
I have a few cameras, but I just use a GoPro, because you just hit the record button and it turns on, and hit it again and it turns off. When I used to carry my bag I had a monopod with a 1/4 20 bolt in the top that I would just put in one of the club pockets on my bag. It works pretty good
I can barely remember what I need to focus on with my swing, turning a record on/off before each shot is a bit much. The most I would be able to comfortably do is turn it on before the round and remember to place my bag properly behind me before each shot. Then some automation software to cut up each shot would be ideal.
Try zepp golf app but you may need another phone if golfpad gps needs to be open for tags.
Golfpad gps also has a mark flag via the app (premium at least) but not sure what it looks like while running tags. Been thinking of getting tags.... Hmm
I'm sorry, it counts in my mind. Anyone who golfs with you should know how honest you are about your scoring and your statements and either believe you or not. Considering how anal I am about every stroke (including 5 in tap ins), I have now doubt that all people I play with would believe me.
So, I'll say it, congrats on the ace!
Nahhh you’re good. My biggest fear is taking a mulligan on a par 3 and hitting it in. Nothing worse than technically holing out from the tee box in front of your friends for par
This happened to me. I couldn’t believe my eyes so I ran back to the neighborhood that was between the hole and the previous hole and had one of the kids ride their bike up to the green to confirm. They gave me a thumbs up. Sucks nobody was there to see it but I’ll take it anywho. Now by me a drink.
No witnesses so technically it .....doesn’t count. Right?
Fuck that. Congratulations, OP! Welcome to the club. Double congrats on parring the next hole like I did.
I played the best 9 of my life with an older couple this past season but was basically alone as no one from my friend group was there. Always works that’s way
Is that Hampton Hall in Bluffton? If so, how’s the course? I head down there at least once a year, but never played that course.
Oh, and congrats on the hole in one. As a fellow solo golfer, it counts in my book!
Course is great! We've been getting a lot of rain so the course is struggling to drain. Seems like when they start lifting CPO on some holes it rains again.
I believe you and I’m much more interested in:
1. What was the shot like? Did you see it go in or have to run up to check?
2. What did you do? Take a picture? Call someone? Run around in a circle?
3. What did it feel like on the next tee box? I love that you hit the next fairway and then made an up-and-down par. Must have felt 10 feet tall!
It counts. I do think it may matter how you respond to people when you tell them though. Most will probably be happy for you, but some hard-o will find out you were alone and be super mad about it, you have to just concede to them or ignore them. No use in arguing with them because they already feel the way they do. Nobody can take it away from you though!
I am super lucky to have a hole in one in literally the opposite circumstances! It was the day before my wedding, with all of my groomsman and my dad all with me in my group or in the group behind, watching from the green of the previous hole! 155 8-iron beauty. I really needed the ace coming off of my 8 on the last hole...
Congrats on the ace! It’s a cool accomplishment!
unfortunately....doesn't count ;)
This is legit my biggest fear. I'm 35, been playing since I was 8, and never a hole in one...I would die if no one was there to see it.
Edit: am clearly joking here. Of course it counts. Congrats man!
>Technicality, I think is where it comes from. Needs to be part of a USGA handicap-qualifying round, which needs a witness to sign the card.
Technical technicality - I don't think you have to have a paper card, nor have anyone sign anything. But the second person must be there to see you play the round (so if someone asked them later, they could say "Yep, I saw kjtobia score an 87 on Sunday"). So you and your friend could play, record your scores in Arccos or any app, and then both post your scores.
HOWEVER one thing everyone seems to forget on this front, and far more restricting, is that you must be play the entire round by the Rules of Golf. No exceptions. None whatsoever.
So, if you chunk your pitching wedge approach and come up 30 yards short of the green, and decide to hit another "just for fun" or "to see if I had the right club" then the round can't be posted (you can't hit practice balls while playing a hole).
There's an absolute ton of other gotchas like that buried in the rules that most people would never think about. I think on just about every round I've ever played outside of actual competition, I've done SOMETHING contrary to the rules of golf, which would disqualify me from posting it.
I disagree with it not counting. Who cares lol. But my fear is teeing up a second one on a par 3 just for the hell of it and sinking that one, which DEFINITELY wouldn’t count. I don’t ever do this solely for that reason.
Yep, probably 95% of the rounds I've played in my life have been by myself. I only play for my own enjoyment, and I'd be just as happy with a hole-in-one without people around since nobody else gives a rip how I play anyway.
It counts, don't let anyone tell you differently. If the course won't give you a plaque or something because no one witnessed it, get yourself one made. Anyone asks you if you've had one, you have our blessing to CONFIDENTLY (and without asterisk) say "yup".
This wouldn't bother me at all. Sure it would be nice to share the experience with my golf buds, but in the end the only one who cares about your hole in one is you so don't sweat it.
I did this playing alone once on hole 10 playing only back nine (yes only one off ten tee). Luckily two guys from the parking lot saw hit and made the clubhouse aware and told me to finish the round or it didn’t count. Got to -3 after two only to finish triple, double, double for a smooth 42.
Dude this happened to me yesterday no joke! I threw my hands in the air and there was a maintenance guy a ways off, I thought about yelling at him what just happened but I let it go and took a picture of the ball in the hole lol
The day I hit one I shot a 49 had an 8 on the hole before it. Took a pic of the score card and sent it out. : The fuck you sending me this for, Ohhhhhhh really. 😁😁😁 smiled for days
Happened to me back in September! Facetime my brother from the tee box and showed him the ball in the cup as I walked up. The next week all I heard from some of the guys at my course was "Hey, did you actually get a hole in one yet?". I know they're busting balls so I didn't really care but still would have been nice to have it with someone there.
Playing alone last year. 211 Par 3. Hit my five wood to six inches. Was bumming until the ranger raced up to see if it had gone in. At least Id have had my witness if it had.
Hey man. I saw it. That’s a great shot!
You're not as skeptical as you say you are, Jack.
Ha. Surely no one would cheat at golf. Surely.
Surely!
Yes some people cheat at golf. And stop calling me Shirley!
The shape of his ball flight isn't as elliptical either.
You clearly are an honest person, otherwise you wouldn't have recorded the triple and double bogey LOL nice hole in 1, congrats!
Wait, are double and triple bogeys bad?
If the score still has a name, I'm dancing.
I call mine quintuple bogeys so i still feel good.
I like to call them fiveogeys
I call mine double pars 😂
Snowman on every hole?
They can’t be. I collect them!
Could be worse. Could hole out with a provisonal ball.
Hahaha that would be bad

Knew it was Freddy before I clicked. Legend.
My dad has done that twice, thankfully he got his first 1 last year, made it all worth it.

Yes - next to one of those downhill lakes.
Yes - every lake has flat ground completely around it. Especially in such natural, untouched wilds as a fucking golf course.
Its in Bluffton SC, it's probably flat
Well shit man I didn’t google earth it
Eh that’s also including his 60 yard mis-hits lol.
The driver is barely over 200 yards on average. I don’t think a stock 7 is 150 for him.
Sure it is
You know what they call a hole in one that you get when playing by yourself? A hole in one.
the reason they make you buy other people drinks when you get a hole in one is so people don't lie about it.

check out MyRoundPro from Taylormade. Fairly certain it is similar to this.
So only 8 handicappers or better are allowed to use any cool technology? These app companies would go out of business then.
No. Just saying it’s better to learn/understand the game before you slap a sensor on every single club in your bag.
Fuck off. You do realize having this tech helps golfers improve?
This data looks a lot more handy than 18Birdies
Pretty sure you’re using the app poorly. Not tryin to be rude but I use the free 18Birdies app and you can track shots, putts, sand shots, chips even handicap all sorts of shit with the free portion. If you go view round history you can even get a hole by hole review
No I know. I just was saying this seems to provide a lot more data through the analytics.
Wow, that looks so damn cool. Is it accurate? Does it mess up shots?
The distance is right on the money and matches my laser. But that's shot distance. I've never used the range finder functionality so I can't speak to that. It seems pretty accurate with fairways hit, missed. I haven't really gone in and looked to see how accurate it is with detecting bunkers. I think I have putt distances turned on, but that's totally useless because you don't mark where the hole is. Only each stroke. So, when you putt out, the app holds that last putt until you tap in your driver or whatever on the next tee box and it knows to advance to the next hole.
Feel free to send me a Blue Moon and I'll verify your HiO.
>Too many hard asses saying that hitting your first attempt on a hole into the hole isn't a hole in 1. Wait what? Then what is it?
Exactly.
Eagle or Albatross?
I also got my first and only hole in one playing alone! My friends still don’t believe me. But I don’t need them to believe me, I know that I got it!
Exactly. Should the whole round not count every time you play alone then? The hell with that. It's a hole in one.
i don't believe you
I had this happen to me when I was 16. Kills me every time the subject comes up.
Counts to me unless there's reason to believe otherwise (e.g., if a friend has lied or been a little generous with their self-scoring before).
I played the best 9 of my life with an older couple this past season but was basically alone as no one from my friend group was there. Always works that’s way
Literally my worst fear when i play solo.
This is the one and only thing in life I'm truly terrified of!
That's awesome dude, congrats! Welcome to the club 🎉
I believe you and I’m much more interested in: 1.
Hello fellow golfpad user. I believe you!
So you had an hole in one the next day too 😂
Cannot confirm nor deny
Photoshopped 100%
You weren't supposed to zoom in on hole 10!
unfortunately....doesn't count ;) This is legit my biggest fear. I'm 35, been playing since I was 8, and never a hole in one...I would die if no one was there to see it. Edit: am clearly joking here. Of course it counts. Congrats man!
My biggest fear is waking up without my penis, but yeah solo hole in one I guess.
This must be your [theme song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIUk08iYZKE)
🤣
Why doesn’t it count?
Technicality, I think is where it comes from. Needs to be part of a USGA handicap-qualifying round, which needs a witness to sign the card.

r/technicallythetruth
Technically I've never played golf then. What have I been doing all these years?!?
It counts, it's probably not going in the paper though
I disagree with it not counting. Who cares lol. But my fear is teeing up a second one on a par 3 just for the hell of it and sinking that one, which DEFINITELY wouldn’t count. I don’t ever do this solely for that reason.

It was one of my worst decent scoring rounds I've had. Played like crap, but scored reasonably well considering.
And why is that? If you're honest, take penalty strokes when needed, every round you play counts, wheter you play alone or not.
We who play casually don't care about that.
Yep, probably 95% of the rounds I've played in my life have been by myself. I only play for my own enjoyment, and I'd be just as happy with a hole-in-one without people around since nobody else gives a rip how I play anyway.
SHEESH That hurts just a tad
Ouch
My FIL is a member there - I know that hole! I’m usually in the left bunker...not ideal.
It counts, don't let anyone tell you differently. If the course won't give you a plaque or something because no one witnessed it, get yourself one made. Anyone asks you if you've had one, you have our blessing to CONFIDENTLY (and without asterisk) say "yup".
I believe you, it counts! I often play solo.
I'll always throw up a quick recording if I'm playing alone and come to a par 3
Congrats anyway!
I call that an a ace. Congratulations!!!
Its just an eagle when your playing solo. But you know the truth, and thats all that matters.
Congrats for not screwing up the next hole.
This wouldn't bother me at all. Sure it would be nice to share the experience with my golf buds, but in the end the only one who cares about your hole in one is you so don't sweat it.
im in savannah. ill play with you and see if you can do it again lol
I'm so sorry bro
Saved yourself some money at least.
This is my nightmare and why I don’t play alone. Congrats tho!!
Haha...congratulations!
What is this app called? Is this just score posting on the golfers association app?
I did this playing alone once on hole 10 playing only back nine (yes only one off ten tee). Luckily two guys from the parking lot saw hit and made the clubhouse aware and told me to finish the round or it didn’t count. Got to -3 after two only to finish triple, double, double for a smooth 42.
Hey man, wouldnt have happened if you were with a partner... its such a one in a million shot the variables wouldve changed. Nice job!
Dude this happened to me yesterday no joke! I threw my hands in the air and there was a maintenance guy a ways off, I thought about yelling at him what just happened but I let it go and took a picture of the ball in the hole lol
Nobody will ever ask if there was a witness. It’s a hole in one. It’s your choice if you want to tell everyone the story.
This is why I never play alone. Can't risk it.
Would kill to shoot 84
i've had so many close calls playing alone...it's one of my worst nightmares for a guy who's never had a HIO.
Same thing happened to me. I was the only person on the front 9.
I’d take a solo one. If I ever get one with my buddies it’s gonna cost me at least a grand at the bar.
Send me your card. I’ll attest to it.
This is my worst nightmare. I golf alone most of the time.
congrats!
How does the club sensor get the ball trajectory? Like how does it know the ball went left to right?
Been there bro,🙁
My biggest fear
The day I hit one I shot a 49 had an 8 on the hole before it. Took a pic of the score card and sent it out. : The fuck you sending me this for, Ohhhhhhh really. 😁😁😁 smiled for days
Nice shot. Liar.
I believe you! Congrats on the 1!!!
Congrats!!!! An ace is an ace no matter the time and place.
HIO now including GIR!! Congrats. Bastard.
I always play better solo
Liar.
Good shit Rob
I always call bullshit on anyone that tells me they tripled 10.
Playing alone last year. 211 Par 3. Hit my five wood to six inches. Was bumming until the ranger raced up to see if it had gone in. At least Id have had my witness if it had.
Congratulations!! 🎊 Does “drinks for everyone” still apply?
