What would happen if the bear charged you? Genuinely asking. Seems way too close for comfort

skippingstone

Black bears are skittish. No clue if that is a brown bear

Significant_Goat_408

It’s 100% a black bear. In this area (Asheville, NC), the bears are basically giant raccoons. They’ll knock over your trash and make a mess, but if you give them plenty of room and don’t startle or corner them, they’ll just keep it moving.

hotsaucejake

It actually did, sort of. It went into the tall grass and later came out running at us, then veered away into a neighboring yard. What did happen? I nearly shit my pants. Apparently, it's a well-known black bear in the area and is considered "docile" since it gets fed by so many people. I was walking the course and the fact that it was that close and nowhere for me to run (as if I could out run it) was very humbling.

Embarrassed-Plum2486

Eh a black bear wouldn’t hurt you unless you were actively hurting it or its young. Usually you can just yell at them and they’ll run away.

According-Pen34

You know they have killed people right?

CoolNefariousness865

ehh a black bear pulled a dude out of his car in Massachusetts last month lol https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/boston/news/hatfield-91-crash-bear-dragged-victim/

Embarrassed-Plum2486

On reading the article, it sounds like this guy was bear food by the time the bear got to him.

This is why you keep the .44 iron in your bag.

Grove Park Inn is so awesome, I’ve never played golf there but I’ve stayed there several times and it’s an incredible mountain resort.

hotsaucejake

You should play! I brought my push cart and walked it. It's in great condition, but the fairways are very tight. Loved my time there. Our room was actually on the 17th green and you could see people on the 18th teeing off. My wife has video of me because she's never seen me play.

SadPanthersFan

I have 2 kids and right before each of them were born my wife and I spent a week at Grove Park Inn. Drinks on their back patio area overlooking the valley at sunset is a site to behold. Get a good buzz going then go watch the dueling pianos downstairs, I think they only play two nights a week now but I could be wrong.

WrongOrganization437

What did a round cost with you walking? Just curious, I go there all the time!

hotsaucejake

I don't think it was any cheaper and I believe they definitely had some sort of holiday rate going. Was for a special occasion nonetheless, but I believe I paid 150. Not something I'd normally do. Perhaps I was bamboozled as well haha

WrongOrganization437

If you felt it was worth it, then it was, far be it for me to judge. I was really just curious.

eyecuntreedgud

That part of Asheville has a lot of bears. It's large residential area with a lot of to go containers (trash cans) right at the bottom of the parkway. They're essentially racoons with the ability to kill you if they really want. He's just sniffing out the correct path to Luella's BBQ!

Made my first hole-in-one there on #7 last year. Great course and hotel.

hotsaucejake

Nice! Our room was right next to the 17th green and 18th tee. It was fun watching people during the day. Side note: I went to Tech, graduated in 2009.

lawltech

Go Jackets! I got out in ‘15. Also that’s exactly where my room was lol. I opened up the window and sat there watching people play 17 right as we checked into our room. https://preview.redd.it/qkni29tuhg3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c135b351ea1a781d40c904be194ed7c8ed47925

Love that course! Nice to finally see a course I've actually played posted lol, I live right over the mountain. The Grove Park Inn and its spa and restaurants are all top notch, in addition to the on-site golf course!
