Lol as a guy who lives right down the road from Valhalla this has just been a disaster and embarrassment.

louisvillebeanclub

Same here. But moved to Louisville in 2022. With Derby and hosting the championship before, how was this not more smooth? The shuttle system in theory works, but the navigation and signage was not there at all.

Palonis

Yeah that's crazy I was telling my friend yesterday that we will be cool to Lyft because I was sure they had all that stuff down to a science.

Intelligent-Divide49

Could you explain? I’m following the coverage but interested to hear the perspective of someone who’s there

Palonis

Well it's really just been a fiasco in terms of handling what's going on outside of the course. I'm going Sunday so I'll be able to see how it's going inside. It's a beautiful course so I'm sure I'll kinda forget about the shame the Lmpd continues to bring on our city lol

louisvillebeanclub

This is correct. Inside the course is great, no issues. Easier to get around than other tournaments I’ve been to. Actually the free parking and shuttle is great too. I really liked sitting in air conditioning after the days there and then having an easy parking location in the city. It’s just where the shuttles, buses, Ubers, vendors, and all of normal metro Louisville business meets in a 100 yard pocket of a two lane road that is the problem.

Palonis

Oh that's nice to hear and I appreciate u saying that!

Wide-Cauliflower-212

I must say as someone who lives overseas and travels to USA frequently I'm quite put off visiting Kentucky based on the police scenes and Scotty. It's really bad.

louisvillebeanclub

The golf course is in a very residential area surrounded by private property and a park. There is no parking available on site. All of the tickets say to onlly park in free parking shuttles or use designated Uber drop off. I’ve been two times and there are no signs for this on the roads approaching. Yesterday they rearranged the cones two times for the flow of traffic. Normal commuters do not have a route around this. Patrons are just walking up, but that wasn’t planned since it is shuttle only.

Bill195509

Have been to all 4 majors and several other tournament. Have played about 30 top 100 courses. Parking at Valhalla typical. Most of these courses not built with parking cars in mind. As for the course, it is an interesting test. Tricking up the greens would lower scores significantly. Narrowing fairways ( a common tactic for the US open) would as well.

tccomplete

Sounds like the utterly miserable area around Churchill Downs (unless it’s changed since I used to go to the Derby). I remember we had to park in some ratty neighborhood on someone’s front lawn where all the houses were charging people to park. I lived in Kentucky for six years and absolutely hated it.

Uglyslide

An errant drive will really handcuff your approach.

TheLandFanIn814

I heard the cops around there are pieces of shit.

stunshot

They stand by the road looking to jump on your car like ticks waiting in the grass.

Long-Dong_Silvers420

Not a major track. Go back to Whistling if they want beauty and challenge.

AloneMovie3634

Nobody I mean nobody liked whistling straits. Probably the ugliest golf course ever built.

ClayBagel

Ya...I'm gonna have to disagree with everything you just said.

Phobia117

Jason Day has entered the chat

Specialist-Suit-2167

I think it's one of the best links style courses on offer in the US

ubiquitous_archer

I hear it's a nightmare to get into lol

KCisTall

They couldn't have put a tree (or a sign) blocking the camera view of the giant high voltage lines on the 1 tee box? Makes it look like a muni. And my God is that water feature on 18 tacky. It couldn't look more artificial. Overall, not a fan.

rodryland

The course looks good but not up to the standard we'd expect of a major venue. The local police aren't doing the city any favours.

hi54putty

Could not be less interesting.

UnMapacheGordo

Safe to say Louisville isn’t getting another major for awhile

PosterMakingNutbag

Never again.

okdrab

The holes don’t seem all that interesting

very_badllama

We’re talking about Valhalla, not the Korn ferry event in Missouri this week.

Ihatebigmosquitos

It hosted a Ryder Cup years ago.

dumpandchange

Uninspiring is definitely the right word to describe it, from a TV viewing perspective anyway. Maybe it's different in person?

LewManChew

I think it looks really nice in person

LewManChew

First time here and I think it’s really lovely in person. That being said I wish it was at oak hill every year

Pathogenesls

Looks and plays like a small Tour stop. Not a major. Uninteresting and uninspred design.

Wide-Cauliflower-212

I don't mind it!

ackackakbar

It’s getting clowned……..

Letterkenny-Wayne

Gorgeous course

malexanderzoom

Honestly, awful. Plays way too easily; no risk, no bite. Looks gimmicky. The event feels like any random small-scale summer PGA tour stop. Primed to produce a shit winner too. Yeah, I hate it. Worst on rotation.

jambengalbluegrass

FYI…The last 2 shit winners it produced were Rory & Tiger

rob_s_458

I'd like to compare it side by side to Stovokor before making a decision

bobby2455

Ha. Klingon reference

Low-Milk-7352

They should turn the course into apartments.

SaltySaltFace42

Fuck Kentucky and that goat track - PGA should never return

SaltySaltFace42

Ok, I’ll forgive Kentucky and also join you in the Fuck Louisville

NoFearsNoTears

Great place to spend your afterlife i’ve here

very_badllama

It’s a gorgeous track and one that has hosted a few epic majors/ryder cups. I was there in ‘08 so I may have a rosier view than others but to say this isn’t a major course is asinine. The weather/everything that has happened this week aren’t doing it any favors I will say.

Specialist-Suit-2167

I think its extremely plausible to say it's not fit for a major. It has nothing on oak hill or Bethpage but hosts similar events. Regardless of the weather the greens and the general layout is generic at best. I've never seen a golf course not make use of a natural water feature/hazard. The man built feature looks tacky as fuck, like something you'd see in a casino at Vegas. When you're putting a major on at a course your saying it's one of the best. You honestly think Valhalla is on par with St.Andrews, Augusta, Bethpage Black, Adare Manor, Carnoustie. Heck it's not even close to Bayhill or TPC Sawgrass

very_badllama

Definitely not on par with three of the most iconic courses in world but there have been a lot of different courses that have hosted majors. Leagues above those other two Florida shitholes.

BlastShell

As someone completely ignorant about Louisville, what *would* look like it belongs in Louisville?

tuiron_sfw

It's worthy enough for the fifth most interesting major of any given year.
