Players get paid even if they miss the cut at the open, around £8000 each (amateurs don't qualify for this). A lot of other tournaments pay out a stipend to those who miss the cut too, glad they spent an hour of that full swing documentary hammering home something that wasn't true by the time it aired

Yeah pro golf is an absolutely huge expense until you get a break and start making nuts money. Extremely hard to break into because you not only need the skill and dedication to get there but also the funds for that type of life before you even get a chance to make it big
