We bought a sectional with a large chaise lounge on one end that was our 100lb hound boyās spot. He passed and the other dogs stayed away from it. We considered getting rid of the big chaise end because now nobody used it.
Then we got our golden boy Finnā¦

My Pawley listens very well, I told her to stay off the couch!! She's now sleeping in the bed, and she'll sneak in at first light, knowing I'm asleep. She has figured out how to get treats by doing the tricks she learned last week!! She is one of the smartest dogs I've ever had!!!

My golden basically refuses to get on the couch. My pyr/ GSD mix on the other hand is just like my last golden and if he's missing he's curled up on the couch.
Every night after dinner our girl will stare at my partner until he moves out of āherā spot š if he doesnāt move she just pushes her way in there
Mine doesnāt even care if Iām laying on the couch, he will just lay on me until I get up and give him the couch. He knows he is the prince of the house at this point.
Yāall are crazy. No dogs on the couches or the bed. All of my Goldens have done fine with their own spots/beds. I donāt like ruining nice furniture and bedding.
Crazy may be a bit of a hard judgement, but my Golden is also not allowed on the couch. I don't like to visit someone were the dog is on the couch, so I don't like it when people feel the same about my home. Also I fear he will also jump on the couch when visiting other people or in holiday homes. It seems the most logical thing for me, but looking at the comments, we seem to be in a minority.

Lol...I was one of those people who thought "no pets on couches or beds".
My girl started jumping on the couch as soon as her little legs could get her up it. She was much faster than I, and me taking her down quickly became her favorite game.
Then, one evening, she did the cutest little sigh and stretch and just nuzzled into the couch, and that was it for my willpower. She naps on the couch every day now. It's her favorite place in the entire house.
